So what that be
S8v3 would come out end of september
S8v4 would come out end of november
S8v5 would come out end of january -
There seems to be a lot of assumption where Funimation is concerned regarding early streaming. The simple fact is, we don't know why One Piece isn't getting early streaming. All we know is that it isn't. Let's not forget, Funimation has had problems in the past with One Piece streams getting pirated. It could have something to do with that. Who knows? It might be a contractual thing, too. But to pin it on Funination having a bias is just plain ridiculous.

In regards to sabo's voice actor in the flashback will it be someone we know or someone relatively new?

16 chars of what flashback?

@Galaxy:
! Luffy's flashback to his childhood after Ace dies.
Oh…well, that's still a ways off. Thought for a second there was something coming up I didn't remember.
I'll guess someone new.
-
Either way, I think the chances of it being Maile Flanagan are 0 … oh well, would have been a fun/cool nod to the Japanese version

! Well while we're at it we might as well cast Robbie Raymond for adult Sabo for the same reasons. Honestly if Funimation did both my jaw would drop.

@Long:
I feel like doflamingo's crazyness was lowered. He seems a little too calm IMO. Whitebeard too when confronting luffy seemed not as intimidating.
Also after checking other scenes, luffy kind of comes off like a bit of a jerk in certain scenes idk if anyone else feels like that or if it's just sounds different hearing him in japanese being more or less carefree in how he talks to people. Like "you dont even know me" or " im not as old as you". Mayne thats some artistic license but it gives me an eren yeager feel instead of determined luffy. Idk maybe im just nitpicking
Edit: and im not blaming joel because of anhthing ive seen of him before because i have no idea what arcs he did and what he didnt, im just questioning the work of this arc
To be honest it sounds to me like you're making unfair comparisons. I mean don't get me wrong, I'm still leaning toward Doflamingo in the original version but Robert's take on him may sound lower but still has quite a lot of ferocity to it. The voice just isn't as deep but he really nailed the underlying craziness. If anything I agree with you about a few earlier lines in the arc but when it came to that speech I think it was actually delivered perfectly and matched what Doffy embodies. Also lip flaps play a huge role in how certain lines come out in the dub. The line may not be 100% exactly what was in the original but it more or less means the same thing. For Whitebeard I sort of agree that he's lacking a bit of oomph that the original has (that voice in the Japanese is extremely imposing) but I do think Bruce Eliot's voice is getting better with each episode.
As for Luffy, Luffy's never exactly nice in either version. He may be carefree but he's blunt and says what's on his mind. I'm not sure what you consider nice but the way he interacted with Whitebeard was pretty damn rude no matter which version you go with.

It just seemed more punk'ish than determined
Comparing these two lines
After whitebeard tells him he doesn't stand a chance here.
Sub: Shut up, that's not for you to decide.
Dub: Shut up, you dont know, you dont even know meAfter whitebeard says he is a cheeky brat, and he wont take care of him
Sub: im doing what I want to do, im gonna save ace myself
Dub: yeah right im not all old like you, im gonna be the one to rescue aceThe sub makes it seem like luffy just doesnt give a damn who he's talking too, but the dub kind of gives off a bit of an angsty teenager vibe, at least to me
-
Wait, that's seriously the translation? lmao

OH MY GOD!!!, what the hell funimation???
-
Silly thing, but I just want to make sure people know the difference between directors and writers. I see Joel's name tossed around… but there is a good chance he had nothing to do with those changes. He may make changes, if the script doesn't flip the flaps or sounds unnatural, but that's it sometimes.
-

You guys do know that lip flaps decide on how the lines turn out right? I don't see any difference between it and the Japanese version because Luffy was an ass to Whitebeard in both versions. Cool your shit guys, I've had just about enough of this sudden dub hating.
-
I don’t really see what is so horribly bad about this dialogue or how it supposedly makes him sound “angsty”. Within context Luffy is being rather rude to Whitebeard because he’s pissed off that he keeps looking down on him, and while this dialogue isn’t exactly the same it gets across a similar idea. That first line in particular seems like it gets across the same thing as the original line, just worded differently. At most this dialogue seems like it has more of an edge to it than the Japanese version, but…that could be applied to quite a bit of the dialogue in the dub (especially if you try to do a dub v sub comparison)
-
I actually think the dub line makes more sense, he's referring to how old people need to be taken care of, and Luffy says "yeah right, I'm not old like you"
-
Well, Luffy has always had an id type personality. It fits.

Good point didnt see it like that
-
People need to stop blaming Joel and FUNi for this stuff. It makes sense because it retains the same feel as it did in Japanese but changes it a little to fit the lip flaps. Changes need to happen when lip flaps are considered but they're not like changes that were in the DBZ dub or even the 4Kids dub of One Piece. Chill out and stop blaming people for things that aren't even inaccurate.

Its not even just lip flaps that need to be taken into account when writing scripts for dubs or directing actors. The timing of the scene in general is something that needs to be considered; you want all the dialogue to fit into an allotted time and not step-over other characters dialogue or scene transitions. There's also what sounds most naturally, as sometimes what is written in the subs doesn't always read very well (sometimes the scenes most similar in translation with the subs end up being pretty stilted and awkward sounding).

I DO NOT SEE A PROBLEM WITH THE DUN DIALOG. too much knit picking. funimation your doing a great job on OP keep up the good work on OP.
-
I haven't seen the episode. I just find the thought of Luffy yelling "You don't know me!!" hilarious. I'm sure it's nothing like my imagination.
-

They could have done things differently other than changing the dialogue and making Luffy seem totally out of character. I love One Piece Dub, but when I see something I don't like I'm gonna point it out.

He's not out of character, stop. Luffy is being a dick to Whitebeard in both versions so this line makes sense. It's not like they changed it just to change it, you guys (you especially) are making Joel and FUNi look like they're the worst. There was probably no way to make the line sound well in English, so just stop with the needless whining, all of you.
-
I don't see the problem with the line at all. What's wrong with it? Where's the part where luffy is acting out of character?

Yeah, you guys are blowing a single line out of proportion. But I will say, "you don't know me!" Is the most angsty teenage, cringe-worthy line I've heard in a while.
Been watching and rewatching the impel down episodes. I noticed Jinbei's voice does tend to change– both in how deep it sounds and in the amount of gravel in the voice. It isn't really jarring, but noticeable to me. And to be fair, while Joel isn't a bad director by any means, I do notice more small inconsistencies like that (and someone mentioned name pronounciation inconsistencies earlier) more in Joel's batches of episodes than I ever do in Mike's. He's not as detail-focused. Doesn't bring the same energy and care that Mike does. That said, we don't need to blame him for everything; he doesn't write the script, for instance. And we don't need to nit-pick single lines' translations. Don't be ridiculous.

" you dont know, you dont even know me "
Just kidding here though lol

Let's just drop this, people are overreacting at a line change that has the same meaning as the Japanese version and are also blaming everything on Joel even though he only ADR directs. Poor Joel, I feel bad for him because everyone here seems to be after him. Regardless, the dub is still really great and the people who are complaining about it and nitpicking it for no reason should just stop and realize that the line changes makes sense. There, now we're done with this whole subject.
Anyways, I wonder when we'll get an announcement for the next set because FUNi's solicitations for September should be coming up soon and because that's one of the most important sets for this season.
-
I have been critical of Joel in the past because there are noticeable differences in casting and delivery when he takes over. That being said, he has improved a billion-fold. The last couple pages controversy is regarding the line itself. Joel is not to blame in this case; it's the writer. Even so, while there is room for debate as to whether the line was decently translated, it still fits the context of the scene, if barely.

How can i complain about the script writers then?
-
While you guys are killing each other over directors and scripts, i am sitting her hoping, that this week Voyage 3 will be announced for early september
-
no body is killling each other. YOU ARE OVERREACTING

I mean seriously guys really, how does someone's personal opinion and discussion on a subject turn into people being called whining, overreacting, dub-haters? All I've seen is civil opinionated discussion. Nobody is whining or dub hating, just voicing a simple opinion on some lines they disagreed with ….
-
Guys shoudlnt we have had an annoucnement for One Piece 3d2y by now, i remember for both Film Z and Strong World we had thos announcements months ahead of time
-
that is so random and awesome, i forgot a set was coming next month and boy June flying by fast
-
-
Here's something I've been wondering - a Youtube user by the name of Akainu Sr. has been uploading dubbed moments for these recent arcs (always suggesting people to support the official release of course)….is it anyone here?
-
I watch a lot of his stuff, it would be nice if he is a user here.
-
Careful! Sharing his page too much leads to copyright infringement. Marco and DoFlamingo sound pretty good in those clips. I'm getting tired by how every villain tries to insert gravel into their voice, but then forgets for some lines.
-
I just blew through those two new episodes smh, they were so good

The cover for Season 8 Voyage 3 is out. And its coming out on September 20th.
http://shop.funimation.com/Season-Eight-Voyage-Three
The weird thing is on the cover it says it's Episode 481 - 491, but in the dvd feature its says 481 - 492.
So we still don't know if they have the Toriko crossover episode.
-
Well, the box art wouldn't have an error and if they did have the episode it would be included so until a trailer comes out or any other confirmation happens, I guess they don't have it.
-
I mean they say the set have episodes 481 - 492 in the dvd detailed area of the page. Funimation had use the wrong cover art before for the early dvd covers for the preorder before and we got totally different cover when it came out. For example the last 3 volumes of Season 3.

What was with the different covers for Season 3?

For Season 3 Voyage 3 and Voyage 4, originally going to have this as the dvd cover, before at the last minute we got currently. https://www.amazon.com/One-Piece-Season-Fourth-Voyage/dp/B0043988LM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1466012841&sr=8-2&keywords=One+Piece+Season+3
Season 3, Voyage 5 originally cover was this. https://www.amazon.com/One-Piece-Season-Fifth-Voyage/dp/B004DMIIV4/ref=pd_bxgy_74_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=9EB3TPDWA1AJRM1AAP78

I mean, it could be true but the box art hasn't had a mess up in a while so until further conformation it seems like 492 will be omitted. I tweeted at FUNi about it and I think other people should tweet to them about it.
