The division of arcs and sagas has never been important to me, however I do not see it weird that an arc opens or closes in the middle of an island. We've seen the story overlap different islands either way.
I asked this before, sorry for bringing it up again, but could someone tell me what does it say on Kaido's gourd? There are two characters. Thanks!

That would be an endless battle - with the only way breaking this cycle being… to eat your opponent?

I only saw one character, it says 天,which means sky.
I for one, am expecting Luffy to settle his deal with Big Mom by telling her if she lets him go, he'll take down Kaidou.
Luffy will win by hurting her with psycologically.

I think it also means emperor
Gee, I've checked some japanese cooking video and they really say "purin" for "pudding". I hoped it was just a writing thing.
I have a really hard time calling this beauty "purin" because of what it means in french.

So she's THAT kind of a logia, eh?
oh no you didn't ! :sick:
Maybe when she gets overlly excited she "purin" herself?

More like pudding herself lol.
I knew it! I knew she was going to be beautiful! Cuz it would've been anticlimactic if Sanji was being forced to marry someone ugly. Much more interesting if she's beautiful, because that makes it more difficult for him. Also yooo that twist with Captain Kidd laying in a pool of his own blood tho…craaazy! Guess I don't blame Apoo for siding with Kaido if he did THAT to Kidd. Not like the two of them were known for gettin a long. I just wonder if Hawkins got away or if something else became of him. Anticlimactic though since I wanted to SEE the 3 of them fight Kaido so badly but I guess them losing is to be expected from the sleepover alliance... just didn't expect it to all happen in this way! All that aside, a funny chapter and I mostly enjoyed it! Good stuff!

He's clearly a fishman, no?
No…just a human as far as I can tell.

Underestimate the crew….............check
Indeed. Was hoping for once we'd have a foe that didn't underestimate the strawhats. Buuuut….Kaido IS a Yonko so I guess it makes sense why he would...still annoying tho
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
I love the name of this chapter and why it's named that, with what Kaido says. Sure villains always underestimate the heroes and then get defeated, but if Kaido was to just appear in front of Luffy right now Luffy wouldn't stand a chance. He has to be on a whole new level.
lol Luffy is such a freaking idiot but they can always fish. Good that Oda brought up Dragon looking nothing like Luffy. I think eventually we will have to see his mother in a flashback and see he looks like her.
Yeah is what Brook says about Dragon's presence just Mangastream translating things badly or has Brook really met Dragon?
Yay Sanji!
That bugs me though because Luffy DEFINTELY looks like Garp.
As for if Pudding aka Purrin is the 3 eyed girl like everyone is saying- she looks a lot like her but I'm still not 100% sure since the hair looks like it could be hiding it but only partially yet we see no third eye at all..as if Oda forgot to show part of it under the eye so that makes me question that…
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
For a moment I was like "HOW LONG CAN HE OLD HIS BREATH!!!"
ahaha! How badass would that have been ? But yeah he is certainly half fishman. Only reason why Oda hid is jaw until now.The first carnivorous mammoth. His hybrid form is going to be awesome.
I still think he's just holding his breath inhumanly long…Oda can pull things like that since this IS One Piece.

Couldn't get the manga to load to re-read it until now..I see it now. So Jack IS a fishman. My bad.

Apologies. Yet another of my replies that looking back now seems rude. Gotta stop doing that, lol.
Then again with the underestimating if they didn't the strawhats might lose more often

I think after he fodderize Kid, a pirate of same generation, he probably thought SHs are nothing as well. Although, beating up Mingo should have made him clue up but he choose to classify Mingo as weak. The frail looking nature of the SHs crew doesn't help either.

@Scotch\No3/:

I disagree. The SHs are driven by a "purpose", they also know when an opponent is beyond them.
To be fair the Shichibukais don't interact that much with each other. And they certainly don't have any sort of respect or knowledge regarding each other's strengths. Hence Moria and Doffy underestimating the crew even after Croc's defeat.
On the other hand the Yonkos fought for years. If one Yonko fall because of the strawhats, it would be ridiculous for the other 3 to underestimate Luffy.
I hoped for an explanation why Robin never said anything about Sabo… But Luffy seems to give no fucks after all what his crew has done during the 2 years

Maybe Sabo told her not to mention it, the same way he told them not to wake Luffy up.

To be fair, looking down on others is one of the things that define Mingo.

I think it has more to do with the fact that that the shichibukai are supposed to have largely different level of powers.. while yonkou are supposed to be on the same level, since the first definition we had for them was 'those pirates able to compete with whitebeard'.. and he was supposed to be the strongest man in the world in his prime
I hoped for an explanation why Robin never said anything about Sabo… But Luffy seems to give no fucks after all what his crew has done during the 2 years
I think it just hasn't come up yet, in the same way Luffy's father only came up after 400 chapters. Still, I'm not really sure I agree with this storytelling technique. (This specific one, not Dragon's introduction) To me we should've gotten some panel by now with them being like "So what's with the eye scar/plants/etc.!?" that fades off to imply they had a decent conversation about their training trials.
I guess a way we might be supposed to be taking it is that they know they went through a lot to meet again, but will just focus on what's happening now instead of the past? I dunno. I kinda wanna be directed how to feel about it.

Sure but that is something we know as the readers. The Shichibukais themselves don't know about their differences in strength, since they don't fight among each others like the Yonkos.
I think the reason the two years never come up on panel is because Oda's saving them for flashback material for future events.
I think the reason the two years never come up on panel is because Oda's saving them for flashback material for future events.
And because it's not really important? Who cares if Luffy knows what they did in the two years? When has Luffy ever given a damn about the past of his crewmates?
I'm talking about us as readers, not for Luffy.
I'm talking about us as readers, not for Luffy.
Even then the only interesting two years were Robins and that's only because it involves a mysterious organization. And even then i'm only expecting a panel or two maybe even just a couple sentences because it really doesn't matter. It's a time skip for a reason.
Doesn't really work that way. The only one interesting, really is a matter of your opinion. I'm sure for say example people want to know what happened to Zoro's eye.
The purpose of a time skip, is to fast forward through everything, and not have to waste time talking about it yes, but it doesn't excuse us from not getting the information that we want. It is just a cop out.

Oda already gave us all the info we need, except like i said maybe Robin. Zoro probably just lost his eye to look cool. If it's important, it'll be mentioned.
@The:
Zoro probably just lost his eye to look cool.
What lol .
@Monkey:
What lol .
Oda just did that so Zoro could look cooler/scarier. Whats so hard to understand? I bet there won't be a mention of it the entire series because it isn't a big deal and it was just done for aesthetics.
@The:

Cool would be if he used his bandanna as an eyepatch.
Yeah, the lost eye is totally pointless - just like everything regarding Mihawk. I bet there won't be a mention of him in the future as well.

Considering Mihawk has strange eyes, or an eye related power of some sort (even hinted at in his nickname). I think it would be foolish to just completely dismiss the idea that Zoro had something interesting happened with his eye.
[insert Sharingan joke here]
I've been wondering about Zoro's eye myself. I think there was a fan comic that offered a silly idea - Zoro was toying around with a knife, musing the same luck that had the Kitetsu miss his arm back in Loguetown. He threw it up, and well…..the last panels were Mihawk and Perona with shocked faces.
edit: here it is:

Yeah, I think Naruto ruined the notion of eyes for me for a while.
Too bad Zoro has yet to be forced to go all out, allowing for a possibility he's keeping his eye closed as a part of some rigorous training discipline/meditation technique or whatever.
Or, after receiving the wound from Mihawk, he swore he would keep his eye closed until they fight again. For whatever reason…
I really doubt it's anything like magical eye.
@Bartholemew:

You're comparing an injury that has absolutely no impact on the story or the character to a central driving point of the series. The eye is no different than Nami or Robin growing their hair. Just to make him look cooler and to imply he actually trained in the 2 years there.
@Monkey:

Mihawk doesn't have any eye powers we know of. A lot of nicknames in this series are based on noticeable characteristics of characters and not powers. And Zoro isn't Mihawk, why would it matter that his name relates to his eyes? You can clearly see how Zoro lost his eye. Unless you want Oda to go full on Naruto.
@The:
Mihawk doesn't have any eye powers we know of.
He has bizarre circle eyes that Oda even took the pains to keep on him….her when he did the gender flip pictures in SBS. In spite of almost always utilizing his female eyes
We've seen Oda draw him sort of piercing through crowds with his eye as the panel focus as well.
And his name is "Hawkeye" Mihawk.
Whether it's some special power, or some sort of technique honed over time. Eyes and being good at swords are definitely some thing with Mihawk.
Zoro trains with him for two years and comes back with one eye scarred closed.
I'm not even saying it's definitely something, but it's not something to dismiss.
You can clearly see how Zoro lost his eye. Unless you want Oda to go full on Naruto.
Actually we can't. His eyelid is closed. But he isn't wearing a patch or anything. Sure that's not proof in of itself (Gutts for comparison). But especially in a pirate manga it's kind of odd on a main character.
Also the attempt to discredit eye related anything by using Naruto is really silly and dumb.
@Monkey:

I think it is rather blatant that Zoro lost his eye in the last panel to prove his devotion to Mihawk. Even if his eye is closed that doesn't mean it wouldn't hurt the eye.
I don't know, I always said zoro lost his eye to show that his rival wasn't going easy on him with the training, it was hard.
We had characters with similar scars that have their eye, but if zoro has it, how the heck and why does he keep it closed all the time.
There was also a popular theory among zoro fans that Mihawk gave him one of his hawk eye lol
I think it is rather blatant that Zoro lost his eye in the last panel to prove his devotion to Mihawk.
What panel are you talking about?

A cut like that should in no way make a person unable to open the eyelid. Which could mean it's being closed on purpose.
It's not as blatant as you make it sound and there's certainly a possibility that Zoro has installed a laser instead of an eye.
Ok, I'm joking with the laser, but there might be something there. It's too soon to dismiss the possibility, especially since Zoro has yet to be pushed over the edge in a fight.
@uniaka:
I don't know, I always said zoro lost his eye to show that his rival wasn't going easy on him with the training, it was hard.
That's a reasonable explanation as far as it not being a big deal, but then I'd expect Oda to show more scars gained on his body. It's also a very neat little up and down cut, it doesn't really look like a battle scar.
I'd prefer if it were a normal scar, but it might be related to some spiritual technique, like his Asura.
I seriously hope it isn't a "spiritual technique".
i think it's an injury inflected upon him by his teacher. probably at his request, like how he asked to be slashed in the barate arc.
Pretty much agree with some of you guys about Zoro's eye:
1. He got cut during training and he vowed to never open it again until he cuts back Mihawk (Kinda like Gon and Hisoka punch exchange)
2. He actually lost it.
3. He got cut, but keeps it close to train his observation haki. Luffy did something similar while training on the island (though he just covers his eyes) Zoro could've been more intense and require a cut to make sure he doesn't open by habit.
