Yeah, that was awesome.
The minks are awesome.

After a very long time… I'm acually curious to see this scene animated... Please TOEI do not fuck this up.
Really... So touching... Even Zoro has shown a face.
Now onto the chapter, Raizou is really on Zou and safe, which now let me think that Raizou is important to the upcoming arcs!
Since Jack came all the way to Zou to get him and that the minks were ready to die for him, he must be really important after all.
The last pages gave me the impression that they would have done the same thing if other members of the Tougetsu family were being chased after, not specifically Raizou.
Dat twist @@
But this make this panel no sense!

why it is "huge trouble"?
The emotion was all lost on me cuz I was disappointed Oda needlessly deceived us for the sake of drama… yet again... this arc.
It's getting hard to take the cliffhangers seriously anymore.

Probably a translation mistake because, as mentioned before on this thread, the Viz translation talks about "big news" instead of "big trouble".
Gotta say, I'm glad that the break in the manga didn't end up lining up with the involuntary anime break. It would have sucked to have gone more than a week without any new One Piece fix at all. (Not that I'm trying to be insensitive to the creepy/scary/horror-ness of North Korea's missile launching.) This was a good time to have it, since we get two weeks of the latest chapter ending on a happy note rather than an "Oh god how can you leave us like this Oda whyyyy" note.
I think there won't be a crew split, everyone will tell him they want our boy Sanji back, it's going to be a scene where he sets sail with Pekoms and once Zou is in the distance they will all appear on the ship one by one showing unity :) if these guys knew about Ace situation you think they'd leave Luffy to himself? Luffy won't go by himself. I am willing to bet my ap account on it.
Still leaves Wano up in the air but hopefully they come to Luffy, sandwiched by two yonkous would be awesome. If Kaido recruits the KHA it will be supernova reunion. Capone, KHA, straw hearts, X Drake, urouge was sort of there when Kaido jumped off maybe he will trail them too. It's going to be an epic tea party orgy.
Simply reiterating what the other posters before me have said….. but the Mink Tribe is indeed one of the best races/population we have seen in One Piece so far.
I'm also glad that Oda avoided a misunderstanding between the Minks and Kanjuro/Kin'emon.

I agree, or at least I sure hope he won't go alone. There haven't been enough moments with the whole crew since the timeskip, and it'd be a shame to get rid of them again (especially after we just reunited with a few of them). I think we're due for something like Alabasta or Enies Lobby where everybody fights a difficult opponent and takes their skills to the next level. (It mainly only happened for Luffy and Usopp in Dressrosa, and Usopp's wasn't really a "fight").

The deception was well done here though, as pretty much everybody fell for it.
Heck, plot twists by nature require a certain amount of deception in order to work.

A real plot twist is one that majority don't expect, that was one of them, whoever feels disappointed because they couldn't foresee this need to suck it up, it's cool Oda deceived us, it happens. Take in on the chin, it was beautiful.
It'll be nice karma if successfully hiding Raizo leads to Kaido's downfall. There's been many theories that Kaido is based in Wano, giving the samurai incentive to be against him.
I really doubt he's based there. Their culture is so isolated even with what we've seen so far, I can't imagine Kaidou runs his entire operation there or the Wanoese (heh) would be more used to foreign stuff. Whether they hated it or no.
Maybe he's force recruiting samurai as soldiers or something. And trying to control the shogunate/monarchy or whatever.

Any mention of Kaido makes the samurai tremble with fear, so if he's not from there originally he's definitely attacked them at some point and left them traumatized. That, or his reputation precedes him and literally any mention of his name sends chills down people's spine, ala Whitebeard.
Never again. I'm glad I didn't read any spoilers this week. What a surprise.
You didn't read any spoilers because because the chapter was out very quickly. I logged in to check spoilers and the chapter was out by then.
Oh my God! That was the best twist ever!!! I'm so happy right now. Thank you, Oda San!

I think it was our champion Sandman who mentioned an earlier release because of patterns that occurred in the past so whoever read that knew there would be early spoilers, the spoilers didn't even affect the emotional impact the chapter had. I'm sure others agree, tearjerker chapter. Again.

But his reputation CAN'T precede him in a super isolated country like Wano. So he'd have to physically be interacting and screwing with the island himself in some degree.

I agree Oda did an awesome job fooling everyone. It's our own fault for taking everything that was said by characters for granted.
However, he did cut some corners to make it work. Like Bariette acting weird for a person who is hanging around with allies. Or ringing the bells for the arrival of two people from a friendly nation.
That's one overreacting monkey.

Maybe he was just overwhelmed with emotion, that overreacting is the only iffy thing I can think of haha.

We know there are two bells, one for raids and another for guests.
It's one of those details that look unnecessary at first, but it turns out there was a reason for it after all.
Alright, Break next week. No one asks this question for 2 weeks, understand?
what about Toriko?
The last pages gave me the impression that they would have done the same thing if other members of the Tougetsu family were being chased after, not specifically Raizou.
We just know about the clan, but Jake only chased Raizou so he might be special.

Well Bariette's facial expression certainly didn't make it seem like he was ringing the bell of welcome. It gave off distress. It's practically impossible to think of it as anything else until you finish the chapter and realize those were tears of joy.
Then there's even the existence of separate bells for friends and foes. It's almost like the concept was made solely for fooling us into thinking there was going to be trouble. Friends usually announce their arrival. There's no need to alert the whole island so that everyone can come and greet them. Not to mention a part of the island is always sleeping. And as we've seen, minks don't seem to be able to distinguish the difference between bells all that well, considering they thought the bell of welcome was rung when Jack attacked. The concept is not that well thought out is what I'm saying.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
We just know about the clan, but Jake only chased Raizou so he might be special.
Maybe Raizou was the only one who was spotted. Or there's a spy on Zou.
Dofla might have mentioned to Kaido he had captured Kanjuro. And the latest developments on Dressrosa involving Kinemon and Momo. So the rest of Kaido pirates might have concentrated on Raizou thinking the others are safe in Dofla's hands.
Well, this proved my theory wrong about the Samurai ruining everything.

At first kanjuro kinemon and momo were in dressrosa but momo was taken to punk hazard right?and while escaping kanjurou got caught and kinemon left to punk hazard too.
Now the thing is they were searching for Raizou before getting caught and traveling wth the strawhats, good thing is they end up ging to zou.
Dofla didnt really cared about them, remember kanjurou was the one hiding in the prison pit and no one knew he was there.
I think Raizou had a spe ial mission for the clan and got Kidou attention which makes jake going after him, s for kanjuro and kinemon they were aware to meet him on zou.
DAMN!What a chapter.i had to salute oda after that page.this is how twists should be,no one sees them coming and yet when they come, everything fits perfectly.awesome.hell,even luffy fell down from shock!this, ladies and gents,is how storytelling is done
and then the full impact of the moment comes.really liked usopp this chapter(you know, after all the minks obviously).he once again acts as an anchor for us,really showing the full impact of something.
after calming down though,i wonder in what situation raizo is/was.if he knew about jack,i'll be disappointed a bit, even if they forced him to hide.
this really changes everything.now i'm thinking jack most likely will return, shedding more light on the situation and acting as the baddy.
I keep reading the chapter and it still makes me well up. :'(((( Nekomamushi…will be in the top 5 when they do the next popularity poll, he's all sorts of awesome bundled into a fur ball.
You can sever our arms
You can sever our legs
You won't ever sever this bond even if it means our whole existence is wiped off the face of the earth!
That's Zoro in thriller bark level of epicness.
Luffy running in his sleep was hilarious hahaha

Thank you i feel less alone. When i think to all the plot convenience which were needed for this to happen…
And you make me remember we indeed have this corpse thing not long ago.
At least minks are great characters. Hopefully we will learn about Raizou and the link between Wano and Zou (unless it is delayed for whatever reason again)

This was being build up since the first chapter of Zou. Go back and read the previous chapters. Everything is consistent.

Well all of it building deceptively towards a non-climax is the problem. Lots of panels used just to keep people from finding out things (including us)… even more than the corpse thing.
Really great chapter.
The only thing that bothers me is Wanda's line a few chapters ago before the first flashback. That's what made the thing unpredictable for me. But maybe it should have been translated differently.
It would be cool if he/she is the head of the Koumori Ninja and a Wano-Mink hybrid. @ArmamentHero:
Jack is most definitely going to return now. I like the idea of Raizou being a bat.
It was worth a go, but there'll always be someone who has to say "Hot enough for you" on a summer's day. @KageKageKing:
Why do I even try?
As long as Luffy doesn't try to eat the Jewel Meat. @Daz:
Fingers crossed Raizou is stored inside Zous' trunk, or kidney or something and they have to go fetch him

I don't see the problem with Oda pulling a red-herring. It's not like it was just suddenly pulled out of nowhere.
The minks are awsome.
Luffy take one of these guys with you.
Looking at the last page of the previous chapter…I'm going to assume that Kanjuro's nickname is "huge trouble" and that Bariete is crying tears of joy.
Anyway, really heartwarming chapter.
At first mangastream had Nekomamushi say "Wish I could actually hear the guy" when Pedro talked to him from the top of the building. That cracked me up, too bad it was a mistranslation.
Wow i thought i was tripping balls when i read the chapter the second time and saw the line was changed.
It would be cool if he is the head of the Koumori Ninja and a Wano-Mink hybrid.
I'd love this. I'm supporting this.
Dissenting opinion incoming.
Maybe it's because I'm a cold, heartless asshole but I was completely unmoved by this chapter. In the end, all it amounts to is yet another red herring on Zou, only this time with a lot more build up. There's no reason for Inuarashi and Nekomamushi to be mobilizing their armies in such a tense way only to greet emissaries of an ally so peacefully. I'd also point out that Momo appears for no reason at all other than to gather everyone in the same place. This chapter was easily one of my least favorites in a long time and Zou is now squarely in my bottom five arcs of the series. The only thing that might help mitigate this nonsense is if Jack comes crashing down this instant to punish them for lying to him.
And on that note, that makes this three of four New World arcs in which some emotional reveal is based on "we knew all along." It's not the best twist in the first place and it gets old quickly. And especially stop people from tearing up at it.
Zou feels like a giant bundle of aborted plotlines.

This was been bugging me for a while, but why are you putting your responses before the quotes?
I'm glad, because the idea of the Minks being really angry at these clueless samurai, and the plot being based around "No no it was all a misunderstanding!" would be UGHHHHH.
Thank god. This also might mean we get some Wano info. High fives all around.

Unpopular opinion being spouted on this forum, I must purge you heathen!:ninja:
Out of curiosity, did this one event really make you drop your opinion of this arc that much, or have you just not been a fan of the arc in general? As far as your complaint, I think it was only tense when we had figured that the samurai coming meant things were going to get bad quickly. When I read the chapter again knowing it wasn't that way, it didn't come that way. Last chapter Beretie was crying when saying he had to go spread the news, which in context with the others crying makes sense there. As for this chapter, the main tension was less about the samurai and more about the two kings seeing each other face to face and that causing conflict. Compared to the Brook joke, this one was quite effective, but it ultimately comes down to personal opinion.
So I have been wondering why Raizou has been hiding and was doing nothing. Is he's in coma?

Pretty sure important rendevous with delegates from a closely allied country over an issue that nearly cost lives but succeeded would actually call for nervous gatherings of people.

I've been trying to like Zou, mostly unsuccessfully. It's like, I recognize that Oda is trying something new and I appreciate that, but in my opinion the execution so far has been pretty off. And I definitely reread the chapter before posting, to make sure my opinion wasn't formed too hastily. The way Inuarashi and Nekomamushi, especially in the exchange with Pedro, make both seem like they are anticipating battle in a way that goes beyond their personal feud.
Essentially, Zou has been filled with several contrivances to build tension, and almost none of that tension has paid off in a meaningful way.
This was a really moving chapter, loved it! :)
The question now is, why did Raizou not give himself to Jack and instead let his friends suffer so much? There must be something really important about him (either himself or something he's holding to) that was far more important than his mink friends well being.

Fair enough. Hopefully as an arc you can at least enjoy aspects of it. Nothings worse than reading a series you like then slogging through an arc that you can't enjoy on some level. Can't say much beyond that, because it really just comes down to personal interpretation of what was coming up, and our interpretations just vary differently (and yours versus most of the others here).

Maybe the minks knocked out Raizou and imprisoned him when he started to talk about surrendering. You know, for his own sake.

It's possible, but I doubt it. I think the reason why Jack was after Raizou is the very same reason why the latter didn't surrender himself.
I mean, there has to be something important about Raizou, otherwise why would Jack be after him?

It's not all bad. Some of the subtler visual gags in this chapter were fun, and I enjoyed the Shandora callback with the ringing of the bell. I'm betting we'll get a few more parallels between the two, but hopefully without an extended flashback.
