Fairy Tail Discussion III

Slightly reminiscent of Itachi's ninja aids.
I don't think Aids is the best analogy to Love Cancer.
-
Might as well go back to Goku's "heart disease".
-

I was alluding more to the sheer ridiculousness of the illness.
-
It's just so badly thought-out and inconsistent. Looking at the beginning, for example Lucy could use some magical item to enhance her reading speed. At the beginning FT gave the impression that the used magic just will become way more versatile than that what we got later on.
And just thinking about the possibility that this magic item would allow any decent mage to read all these books and actually learn from them.
-
Let's be real. Hiro never intended for the series to be this lenghty, and neither he planned everything thoroughly. At a certain point it degenerated into fanservice buffet, and while I would be an hypocrite if I said I don't feel aroused towards the women in this manga, there must be a balance. Hiro disregarded the plot in favor of accentuate the female cast assets.

For me it balances out the homosexual undertones of Toriko!

At least that one was somewhat more understandable than all the others. Folicking around on alien planets and picking up diseases is a venerable sci-fi plot point and a theorical concern for real space travel.

I think a couple of years ago he even said that he'd "keep writing Fairy Tail for as long as it remained popular.". That should tell you where his mind is at. He doesn't take the manga all that seriously which is why dedicates so much panel time to fanservice. He's quite business-savvy, lol.
-

He would sooner catch a flesh eating bacteria than a heart condition, but nevermind. What I wanted to say, with that criteria, you might as well label any disease in manga as crap. I wouldn't count Itachi's tuberculosis, or Kimimaro's for that matter, just because we haven't seen him cough up blood prior to the fight.
It's all masterfully done compared to anti-ethernano tumor.
-
Looking back, it seemed to me that the only purpose of ailments the villains had was to show that the heroes would have never defeated them otherwise. Double as saving their hype (somewhat) as they're not fighting at 100% capacity. This Nanowhatever Tumor is just a joke compared to that, which didn't even last one chapter.
Considering that Mashima doesn't even show glimpses of Split-ponytail's magic, I'm guessing that he hasn't thought of it yet. It's gotta be impressive, right? I mean 4 Strongest(lol) Wizard Saints are humping the ground in agony because of that. It's about time too for Jello and his new merry gang to show up and save those 4 losers' asses.

I'd wager his ability is going to be something genjutsuesque. I mean, we don't know what kind of magic Hyberion or Wolfheim wield, but we do know that both Warrod and Jura are capable altering the environment significantly within a short period of time and without too much effort and we saw no signs that either of their abilities had been utilized. I reckon that 'fight' was over before it ever even really began.
-
Hard to say, since they seem to take physical damage either from beatings or magick explosions. Lack of environmental alterations might indicate that Jura was taken out first (emphasized by his lament) and then Broccoli-man. That shorty geezer seems to be more like physical fighter too based on what I remember of him transforming into some kind of beast. I had no hope for the faux vampire one in the first place.
Since it's Mashima, it's fair game if split-ponytail didn't even use any magic move to overwhelm them all. I'd be lying if I'm not curious about his so-called "vast" power.
-
Typical Fairy Tail rather show fanservice than any action sequences. Speaking of fanservice is Dimaria into women?

I think she just loves to humiliate her enemy than anything else, but that also works.

Looks like Mashima grew impatient with crap he wrote himself and decided to cut some corners. Huge ones.
! For a shallow character that was designed at last minute with shoehorned hierarchy in power level, that would be fittingly miserable end for him.
-
that's classic fairy tail
-
And it's Naruto all over again: introducing an overpowered character out of nowhere which only purpose is to overhype another character and make any attempt by the hero at defeating him 0% believable.
-
Awesome chapter. I hope we get to see the rest of God Serena's DS natures, though. And instead of jobbing to Acno it would have been cool if it took the concerted effort of three or four of the Ishgar DS's to take him down. Oh well.
-
-
It was nearly a cool chapter. But it suffered from Mashima''s inability to keep tension going for more than half a chapter.
-
So one of the most powerful mages got pawned like it was nothing. In a series that I like this would be BS and a terrible direction, but for Fairy Tail it's just a Tuesday. It's times like these I have to give Bleach credit in some ways, because even though it absolutely fails there is a sense on trying. Here there is no trying and just stuff thrown together to try to make a chapter epic and get people to react. I still cannot understand why people think this series is good, even with the whole "don't take it seriously because it's not trying to be serious" deal. But hey, perhaps this is a good thing. Bland dragon man will go and take down most of the characters so we can get through this faster, because Mashima doesn't want to write out all these fights.
-
I mean it shouldn't surprise anyone anymore, but the speed these people become jobbers, a few panels after beeing depicted as superstrong mages, is insane.
-
"Acnologia appears to confront Serena"
Whoa for the first time in a long time something that actually piques my interest in Fairy tail, man I wonder how this is going to…
"One shotted"
..nevermind… :sigh:

acnologia was always depicted as really strong, also both jura had been owned in the past by no less than cana and that tree guy was never depicted as a particularly strong fighter.
-
I liked acnologia´s appearence I guess. Everything else was meh.
So 7 Dragons.
Natsu, Gejeel, Wendy, Laxus, Sting, Rouge and who´s the other? Am I forgetting someone, or do we have a mysterious character to come up?–- Update From New Post Merge ---

Yeah, I think he was depicted has an outstanding mage (not quite the same) and a good "support", but not a good fighter.

Best part of the chapter for me is where the Old Spriggan says that he's impressed by the "Vampire Magic" that actually looks so unimpressive you can't even tell what exactly it does. Is it suffocation? Magic Asthma? Telephatic Seizure? Begs the question why Hyberion was even 2nd strongest.
Also, maybe Erza's tits on the effin' cover.
-
So, in the world there were only 5 artificial dragon slayers. Maybe every lachrima from Mr fail Serena came from a different one but I don't feel it.
-

But weren't they part of the top ten mages of this country?
Anyway my point still stands that this chap felt extremely rushed. Like, Mashima wanted to get rid of these characters asap.

It seems to be Mana/Life absorption. It looked that for me.
-
I have no words to waste on this chapter, just like Acnologia wasted no time in mopping the floor with "God" Serena this chapter :D
All FT shenanigans aside, Man At Arms uploaded this today and I thought it was genuinely cool.
-
Look who decided to drop by.
Such a generic design for the so feared black dragon's human form. Stay in your foreboding draconian appearance, please.
-

That actually makes sense, but in a series where magics are mostly about fancy laser shows and terrain-altering tricks, his magic stands out as the most boring in presentation. Can't say much about its effectiveness either since it's just one-use and the victim is meant to be unbeatable for him.
It's lame too that Split-ponytail's motive for defecting is just to find Acnologia. That's as shallow as it can get 'cuz clearly he's doing it for kicks and fuel for his arrogance.

That was his motive? As in, he had a motive? I actually forgot thinking about his motive/reasoning because I couldn't care less about these one-shot 'characters'.
-
The power levels in this manga are just so unbalanced, it´s like Mashima never gave a thought about it.
Just putting out there powerhouse after powerhouse, which gets anyways one-shotted by the next one.
I mean not even standing a chance against a single punch, wtf?!
He builds up these characters, so that it shouldn´t be possible for FT members to beat them, but they anyways will, while others who are actually said to be the best mages get one-shotted.
Unbelievable and a waste of characters. -
That's as if Big Mom would be completely introduced only in the recent chapters, just to get one-shotted by Akainu.
-
@Bartholemew:
That's as if Big Mom would be completely introduced only in the recent chapters, just to get one-shotted by Akainu.
^ Except it really isn't anything like that. It's not a very good analogy because we know Big Mom and Akainu to be relatively close in power. On the other hand- we've known for a while now that Acnologia is heads and shoulders more powerful than every other character in the series. There really isn't even a close second.
- One-shot Gildarts, arguably the strongest mage on the continent before he even knew what hit him.
- Annihilated Tenrou Island with a single breath attack while barely trying according to Gildarts.
- Eviscerated Igneel. The same Igneel who could kill Zeref with just a fraction of his power.
- Finally, keep in mind that Zeref has spent several hundred years amassing an empire of 730 guilds plus his Spriggan 12 for the sole purpose of defeating Acnologia and still doesn't think his empire can succeed without the Lumen Histoire to bolster his empires power even further.
I would have been surprised and disappointed if God Serena was able to put up even a modicum of a fight knowing what we know about Acnologia. With the way he's been hyped and portrayed up to now, anything short of a concerted continental effort to defeat him will feel forced.
-
@Don:
said to be the best mages get one-shotted.
what better way to quickly end a character/story line you've run out of ideas for.
*And really, Friendless Acnologia has no chance against Fairy Tail's Power of Friendship. He will be no match for hugs, love, and words of encouragement
-

Wait, is that was the plot is about now? I remember Zeref flying around on Acnologia and destroying the island together? What was up with that then? And I thought Zerefs whole goal was to die and/or kill everything?
I'm decidedly out of the FT loop, that^just confused me a bit

Kind of… he wants both mankind and Acnologia exterminated.
Zeref certainly did not help Acnologia destroy Tenrou Island. That was all Acnologia's doing.
He told Acno back in the Avatar arc that he was going to kill him along with the humans.
!
…And in chapter 445 he says his empire exists to compete with Acno. That's why it doesn't really surprise me that Serena jobbed so easily.!
Zeref told Mavis after the GMG that his end goal is to essentially "reset" the world by life wiping it. He's basically a depressed cynic who is sick and tired of watching humanity repeat the same mistakes generation after generation.
-
Zeref is an emo piece of shit who needs to die.
-

Actually, it was based on what he said in the same page he got one-shot'd. I figured that Zeref must have reeled him into joining Spriggan by telling that they're gonna fight Acnologia at some point or another. No clear explanation as to "why" would he do that other than generic explanation like to show that he's the strongest DS that can beat even Acnologia.
Also, I just remembered that he just walked away after pummeling down the 4 Isghar Losers on-screen without even trying to remember that he was about to finish Broccoli-man off.
-
The same Igneel who could kill Zeref with just a fraction of his power.
when was this stated?
not that i doubt you, i just cant remember. -

ah okay, yeah i saw that, i thought i missed something cool.
