I'd say Maul was my favorite. But I did like Ren's fight
! when he seemed to be getting more unstable. Punching his own wound was an interesting choice. There was something familiar about it that I can't quite place.

The Force Awakens passed Avatar to take the number one domestic spot yesterday; even without having opened in China, it's fourth on the worldwide list behind Jurassic World, Titanic, and Avatar. Coincidentally, twenty-two of the top twenty-five films of all time are science-fiction and/or fantasy. Well, unadjusted anyway. It's only seventeen of the top twenty-five adjusted films.
I wish movies stayed in theaters longer; we'd finally topple Lost Cause: The Movie.

I'm fine either way; it'd still be scifi/fantasy at the top of the list.
I always did think of Gone with the Wind as my favorite scifi film
Blind reaction before I read criticism here!
! I LOVED IT!
Finn was such a delightful surprise, absolutely love his character and Rey was pretty awesome too. Their chemistry is lovely :D
! I knew that Kylo would do as he did. I could Feel it. But I still got a little misty eyed :( I'm a naive sappy fool who had momentary hopes that he'd turn back and be a big happy family again.
! Ahhhh and the amount of throwbacks were amazing.
! Best character: BB-8. Cute as fuck.
! Kylo's tantrums were hilarious. I like his character and his obvious flaws.
! I called the last scene being our first glimpse of Luke, pretty much foreshadowed.
! One thing I didn't like was how Rey just Got the force all of a sudden with no training, but there's probably a deeper meaning to that. The fact that she "imagined an island on a lake" which was where Luke was located is a pretty obvious point in that direction.
! Fight in the snow wasn't Jedi excellence but it was Gorgeous. The colour scheme was beautiful.
! I'll miss Harrison Ford but I can understand why he would've had to die in this one. His interactions with Chewy put a grin on my face every time.
! Kind of disappointed in the storyline being about destroying a Death Star and the heroes disabling a shield Again but what can you do. At least the rebels destroyed it on their own this time… Kinda.
! Anyway I still loved it :D I wanna watch it again.
Now I expect to scroll up and see a lot of negative reviews. Let's see..
Edit: Nice! Most reactions seem similar to mine.
Star Wars has a better shot at taking the all time title anyway; another major release or two and it'd pass Gone with the Wind.
Of course that assumes Fox would go along with such a thing. I kinda want to see it happen if only to see if Warner Brothers would retaliate by dumping Gone with the Wind back into theaters just to hang onto the record.
Another blow for Confederate apologia.

Man, they're really going all out for the new Star Wars sequel.
If it opens big in China and gets another major re-release, reaching the #1 spot worldwide might be possible.
@Cyan:
Luke v. Palpatine in the custody battle for Vader's soul is probably one of the best scenes in film. Vader's silent mental deliberation before throwing the Emperor down a shaft conveys more information and emotion than 99% of the prequel movies ever did.
And so, naturally, George Lucas completely effed it up in the latest (and, given that he's no longer in charge, presumably final) revision of the movie by having Vader going "No… NOOOO!!!" during that part. Because, y'know, there was no way for us to understand that Vader was feeling torn up at seeing his master killing his son if he didn't put it into words. Why, as a child seeing that scene I never understood why they kept cutting to Vader looking back and forth between the two, because he wasn't even saying anything so obviously I had no idea what could be going through his mind there!![/sarcasm]
…It is for reasons like these that I have still not bought the series on BD. I mean I can live with the prequels because they're mostly unchanged aside from CGI Yoda in the first one (which I'd argue was an improvement anyway) but then you get the problem of them being, well... the prequels. The original trilogy? I do not want to support these repeatedly bastardized versions. Even if there are aspects of the remastered version that I do legitimately prefer to the original (improved keying for the bluescreen bits, the updated visuals for the Death Star battle in IV, the "Victory Celebration" track in Jedi...), I just don't want to get the version that has that god-awful CGI musical number or James Earl Jones's Big Noooo 2.0. So... good thing the Despecialized Edition is a thing.
I managed to watch The Force Awakens without nearly any idea of what to expect, I only watched the first trailer and that was all I knew about the movie (having deleted my facebook account is making wonders to keep myself spoiler free). I also went to the movies without any expectations, either positive or negative, and in the end I. fucking. loved it! Honestly, I had this big smile on my face for almost an hour after the movie was over.
! Of course, there were flaws, the movie felt pretty much like an Episode IV rehash, but to be honest I was pleased by it while watching it instead of bothered. Maybe they could cut some of the similarities, but on the whole I think it was a good choice. Things like the "trash compactor" being mentioned, the initial sequence with the important message being left on the small droid or the bar full of weird alien species drinking and having fun felt like amazing homages to the original movie. When they were visiting Maz, I was half expecting Han to shoot one of the First Order informants before he could do anything and then answering with a "What? I always shoot first" while Chewie looked down at him. The Deathstar reprisal in the form of the Starkiller, on the other hand… not a fan.
Still, I hope in the next two they dare a bit more and explore new areas (maybe now they don't need to be afraid of the old fans reaction they allow themselves to experiment more).
! Regarding the new characters Rey was an interesting addition. I can't say I really liked her character, I think she was too much of a by-the-book good guy (well, girl) and once or twice I cringed at how genuinely good and pure she and Finn were, but for some reason I think she will develop into a great character in the next movies, so I am optimistic. All and all, the simple fact we had a female as the MC was enough to please me and I was so pleased to see that in the end it was her doing the fight instead of just watching as Finn fought Kylo Ren.
Finn is not much different. I like him ok, but I think he will become more interesting in the next movies. At first I was worried because he (and Poe, but this one didn't appeared nearly as much) was pretty much the "Marvel guest character" with his humor and constant snarky one-liners. But, unlike what usually happens in the Marvel films, I think they managed to keep this in control here and never went overboard: Finn was funny only when it didn't felt out of place and took things seriously when needed.
! But, to be honest, Kylo Ren was the one that I really liked from the very start. The only other character I REALLY like in the franchise is Yoda, so now the little guy is not around I was really pleased to have a new face that was putting a smile on my face in every scene he appeared (how I loved those tantrums!). I had to admit I felt a bit like a bad person when I noticed I was the only one happy when he killed Han, I even raised my fist celebrating only to notice no one else was on the edge of their seats hoping for that to happen. I mean, it's obvious Ren will turn to be a good guy in the end, but I can wait until that happens, no reason to rush and for now I really wanted him to stay as a sad and spoiledkidvillain. Also in the final battle I was thinking "please don't die please don't die please don't die" during the whole fight, so, yeah, I instantly got attached to this character and that's always a great thing.
! What else? I could have more of Maz and I SURELY could have much more of Phasma (honestly, I was expecting a lot more of her seeing how much she appeared in the first scenes. And now that I found out it was Gwendoline Christie behind that mask, I honestly can't understand how little she appeared in the end). I was also bothered by how an untrained force user who just awakened could best a trained warrior, but who knows? We don't know anything about Rey's past, maybe she actually was aware of the force and had used it once or twice in the past unknown to us, maybe the "awakening" Ren and Snoke felt was Finn's and not hers.
! Oh well, great movie, Episode V is still my favorite but this one easily fits among the best ones in the franchise. Can't wait to have more.
So which action figure/merch should I buy that will be worth one million dollars in 20 years?
Probably something Rey-related considering how little there is of her and how much demand there already is for her today.

Anything you can find and destroy easily, to make it rarer
Will this guy change the way you see Kylo Ren? Or part of him, anyway? Spoilers, obviously.

The Unleashed (Petco) I work at is selling limited edition Star Wars toys for dogs. They're packaged like toys for collectors. We have Chewie, Kylo Ren, and Captain Phasma. I don't know if the Petco/Unleashed near you has them too. Who knows? A limited edition dog toy might be worth more than you think.

They're completely ignoring the part where Ren is basically toying with Finn and has the clear upper hand against Rey until the plot powerup. The bow caster bit was funny though.
Btw, totally unsurprised you're a ticklr, Satsuki.
Ren has armor that can withstand lightsaber strikes so him tanking a bowcaster round isn't all that big a surprise. I'm pretty sure that those rounds went completely through stormtroopers.
Who was it that was guessing the identity of Stormtrooper TR-8R? http://comicbook.com/2016/01/07/lucasfilm-confirms-star-wars-the-force-awakens-stormtrooper-tr-8/

Huuuu, Greg Rucka, eeeh? e_ e Gonna check that out.
This is how you make good use of the prequels. Take them in nice digestable snippets and portions that add a little more eight to the original trilogy.

Damn feels, Outerspec :'(

!
Dammit, Chewie.
Dang, that comic is brutal.
Now I'm wondering how they'll handle Chewbacca onwards. You'd think he'd tag along with Rey, but then she's probably going to be busy training with Luke or something. Finn is probably hang out with Poe and BB-8. What does that leave chewy with? Sadness?
Is the Clone Wars series good? I was thinking about watching it.

Playing holochess with R2, probably. He'll be a grandmaster in a few years and the team's official tactician.

The shelves on his study will be full of holochess trophies, as well as the arms of all the people he competed with to get those.

Very, so definitely give it a go.

Best thing that came out of Star Wars since the original trilogy. TFA included.

The show takes a while to figure out what it wants to do but becomes fantastic when it hits its stride.
I just watched the VII episode. I watched the first three movies when I was a kid in the 80s and to me it was so sad to see Han's death. Also it was nice to see him and the Millennium Falcom again. I was intrigued to see how it was going to be the apparition of Leia, but honestly she looked much more stronger and has much more presence back in the first three movies. And since she was one of the two last jedi, it was a shame the writers didn't made of her someone much more relevant in the story.
I also like the mc now is a woman, and John Boyega was a good choice for Finn's character. They both made a good acting.
I'm not sure about a way to end the opposition between the dark and the good sides of the force. To me it belongs to the sacred premises of the story that it will always be good and bad in the Star Wars universe, so knowing about a way to seal that antinomy is like a premonition the good story has an end. I say it because it could be other way around if the story remains open on that aspect. But we'll see how this is developed in the next films.

How long is a while? It's been on my Netflix queue for a while. I need motivation to start it lol.

To me it was good from the start. But that could be different depending on your experience with the 3 original movies. I watched them when I was 7 and dreamed about becoming an astronaut. So the first film was like a huge event in the life of child. My wife, which had not watched neither of the episodes, began with the Phantom Menace and went in chronological order, and hated it when Anakin becomes Lord Vader. To me it was different because my first experience with Anakin was the masked Lord Vader.
In regards to the story, I think is pretty solid all the time. If you have already watched the 3 original films, you can get some fun in watching episode I, II and III keeping the track of all the antecedents to the main story. But even if you don't want to do that, the story of Anakin is interesting and well written. Much more dramatic than all of the other films of the saga and than the most of fiction action films.
The new story is a new chapter aside by the moment, and can be watched if you watched the original story already.
I've been planning on watching it as well. Apparantly there's an official chronological watch order as well.
It's generally agreed that Clone Wars has a rough first season, but starts hitting it's stride somewhere early in season 2.

The main reason I avoided it was mostly due to the art style. Star Wars is not really my fandom of choice, but I enjoyed the new movie. I didn't like 1,2 and 3. 4, 5, and 6 I don't think I was ever really drawn to. I liked the bad guys though lol. But thrn again I wind up a sith in most star wars quizes.
Is the Clone Wars series good? I was thinking about watching it.
The problem I have with the show is that in an episode there'll be a conflict, and then its resolved at the end. And thats fine. Its war. Its a kids show, supposedly. But the conflicts themselves aren't good enough for me stay glued to the screen. But hey, I'm an adult. This is cartoon network. This is why I preferred anime with an ongoing story, even as a kid. I don't much enjoy the 'villain of the week' thing in Flash and Arrow either.
The better episodes certainly are the multi-episodes ones, but they don't start showing up till later - the good ones, at least.
New Rebels on January 20th…Leia will make an appearance. :) Julie Dolan who provided her voice in recent video games will be doing it again.
Speaking of Clone Wars. There is even another fantastic series out there. The one from Tartakovsky.
How long is a while? It's been on my Netflix queue for a while. I need motivation to start it lol.
The first season's kinda uneven with most of the stories ranging from okayish to good and even a few great episodes; the season finale "Hostage Crisis" is probably the first episode that really made people sit up and take notice though.
Season 1 was kind of muddling, with a few gems like Rookies.
Season 2 was pretty good, and Clone Wars seemed to find its focus
Season 3 sucked in the first half and was awesome in the second half. The animation started getting really good then too.
Season 4 was, for me, the best season
Season 5 was entirely composed of long story arcs. It resembled Season 3, but the earlier episodes were more average than terrible
Season 6 started and ended well, but the parts in between were admittedly a mixed bag
I've yet to see a truly great Rebels episode. The last two episodes of Season 1 were probably the best so far, hopefully it can find its stride without becoming Clone Wars Part II

They look like Consular frigates with a different command pod; if so, they actually predate KOTOR. Considering how often Rebels reuses assets from The Clone Wars, that's probably what these are.
Leia picked up Darth Sion and is touring him around the Empire.
