tvh the mii fighter costumes were great. I know it sucks to have your character be a mii and not proper but you have to accept that not every character will be made playable. Mii costumes are a fine consolation prize and it still brings awareness to the brand. Take Takamaru for example. His only reason for not being included in Smash 4 was brand awareness. With the assist trophy, his game being released international and now his Mii Fighter costume i think he is far more in the public eye than 3 years ago. If he got a reboot game, even if it sold like dogshit, his place in smash 5 would be a guarantee. Mii costumes of characters like Takamaru, K.Rool, and Ashley are there for the more obscure/unreleavant nintendo characters. Then 3rd party like knuckles, heiachi and llyod are for the 3rd party that do not make it because more important ones take their place. But they have fans. Genos whole includment here is becasue fans want him but he is 100% an unreasonable character. Obscure side character with a 1 off appearance from a retro title, also owned by another company. This is the most Geno fans could get and from what i have seen most are fine with it. They kind of knew that already.

Yush…I have absolutely NO problems with the Knuckles costume. I mean...c'mon...it's so gloriously derpy:
I mean you have to make a conscious effort to make it look THIS hilariously goofy.
-
My new avatar showing off my new all time favorite Kirby absorption.
Finally we have Kojima in Smash.
Really though. It's adorable considering how drastically different the two are in tone.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Another thing I've noticed though.
Why is it that in nearly every single piece of official artwork Samus seems to have a textbook example of a "resting bitch face"?
[hide]
[/hide]I'm only mentioning this because it seems to be her default expression in nearly everything.

Yea, 'cause this fucker screams relevant and well-known:
And there's no way he could have just been a Mii Swordfighter costume. Nah, that'd be stupid.

The only real saving grace with Corrin (Who I shall dub "Corn" from here on out for lols and simplicity's sake) is that most of his/her move set revolves around the dragon transformations.
If he was just another full on FE sword guy then I'd be way saltier about him.
One thing I didn't notice about Corn though (funnily enough) was that his female version apparently has inner thighs of steel as she doesn't need armor there. Not that I mind. When you can turn into a dragon you can dress however damn well you please, lol.

After a couple of matches with Cloud I really wish he had some more varied alternative costumes. The amount of times where the match has started and I've mixed myself up with the opponents Cloud is getting a bit silly. Just a black haired Cloud would really help. Super minor gripe.

Well yeah I mean, SOMETHING has to haunt my nightmares.

Man you have a bizarre way of trying to rationalize EVERYTHING as if it were a beautifully orchestrated intentional numbers game and all fit together logically. It's all INCREDIBLY hypothetical and mostly bullshit; I bet you could convince yourself 1+1 = 3 with the reasoning you take.
On a general level I'm not going to look at the game as a marketing platform because while I'm sure those thoughts go into the mix somewhere, it's a stupid reason by default and as I've been trying to say, the Mii fighter thing and how it feels is unrelated to WHY it was done, merely to the fact that it was done at all. Receiving nothing at all is still better than how it feels. But this is worse than that because they're charging money even for the costumes! If you want to talk about how having something is better than not having it, and it existing solely for advertising purposes, you're never going to get through to me if money is involved.
And once you throw in personal opinion then might as well mention how I'm never going to use a Mii in the game. Ever. So costumes are already dead to me.
-
It is a shame CLoud's outfits are basically all black. Nice that they have the two versions but… a black haired Zack variant would be nice, or a colorful Chrono version. Something!
Well, maybe Chrono can make it to Dissidia some day.
Not that I don't think there's some logic here, but I feel as if there would be no valued outcome no matter what.
-Geno gets made into a character, people see other mii costumes and go "wtf why does a one-off character from a SNES game get a slot?"
-Tails and/or Knuckles get made into a character, people see other mii costumes and go "wtf Sonic reps over Nintendo characters?"
-Takamaru gets made into a character, people see other mii costumes and go "wtf someone from a Japan-only game gets in?"The simple solution? Make the mii costumes not look like shit and actually look like the characters. If they didn't look liek insulting jokes, people would be okay with them being part of a generic template. (Or even give them a unique move to mix them up some from generic brawler/gunner/sword/).
It'd still suck not having them as a full fledged character, but be better than whats there now and people would be happy to have the character in any form. Long as you arent charging for a full fledged character.
You could also make them skins for more applicable characters, rather than the Miis. Knuckles and Tails go on Sonic, K.Rool on Bowser, Wolf on Fox, etc. Makes them clone characters but… still better than the insulting middleground they've gone for.
Its what the Gundam Musou games did for their third tier mechs. They sucked and were generic, but they left them in there to pad out the roster all the same!
-
It's such a lost opportunity with Cloud that not only did we barely get any music (when Ryu got a lot more options) from a series super-known for having epic music, but we also did not get the most obvious Cloud alt costume of him in a dress.
That would have instantly been as popular as underwear Shulk and pink Captain Falcon.
-
Gotta say I'm perfectly fine with this outcome 1000% I can't express how worried I was Shovel Knight would get in, I love the game but my god he's just an extremely boring and uninteresting character. I was mentally prepared to just deal with it beforehand but boy am I glad he went with Bayo. Someone I completely gave up I on beforehand. I was personally rooting for Isaac and K. Rool but I honestly feel too spoiled to even complain. This whole roster I feel was made with me in mind, there being so many characters I wanted in before dlc. My only real disappointment in the beginning was the absence of Lucas, but of course here he is now. And then there's also Corrin who I also completely gave up on seeing as his game is still so new. And I really like what I'm seeing in his moveset too. No Inkling is the only weird part for me, I thought they were an obvious choice along with a stage. I was also expecting Wolf but he's not terribly interesting to begin with so no problem there. So yeah, this went above and beyond my expectations. I can't wait to play as Corn and Mayo when they come out. In the meantime Cloud is neat, kinda wish this game had actual single player content though. I'm still upset this game has no story mode. Guess I gotta depend on my friends for multiplayer fun. …wait.
-
You know, I wanted Isaac in there not even because I cared so much as playing as him, I just wanted a shred of hope that the Golden Sun series isn't deader than F-Zero. Hell, I would have taken a shitty Mii costume. Just some form of acknowledgement that Golden Sun was a thing once.
I think there's a piece of music or two buried in the game somewhere, but that's it. Hell, we didn't even get the Isaac Assist Trophy again, or any Trophies for that matter. It's like they're willfully trying to erase that series from existence. I know Dark Dawn was bad, but still…
Sorry, I just made myself sad :(
-
Its more if your parents got you like 6 games you like, 3 that you don't, and posters for a few that you did want but they couldn't or wouldn't get you.
-

That's still 100% too personal. It's more like your school cafeteria is going to offer a new menu option and they decided to take suggestions. And you want teriyaki chicken and you talked to a few people that also want teriyaki chicken, so clearly, you DESERVE teriyaki chicken. Then they end up giving you lasagna (Corrin) and you cry about it because they already serve pizza (Ike) and spaghetti with or without sauce (Marth/Lucina/Roy) so why would they offer another Italian (FE) dish?! (Even though they offer hamburgers (Mario and other franchises with multiple reps) every day, but nobody complains about that) While people wanted other things more, like steak (K Rool/Isaac) which would be awesome, that's just not how they roll or it's not practical. And a bunch of people wanted ice cream and cake (Goku/Shrek) which was completely ridiculous. Then they offer you sides of teriyaki sauce(Mii costumes) which are nothing like the real thing but you can still dip your fries. But you wanted teriyaki chicken dammit and this is a travesty and I'm really hungry now!!!!
-
Tails was the number one character I wanted in the game, and I actually don't mind the costume. I'd imagine people would be more upset if they didn't get acknowledged at all. The fact that they got acknowledged in such a way could always imply that maybe it could happen next time.
Either way, I've never felt like I 'deserve' anything with these games. Did I want Corrin? God no. Even as a Fire Emblem fan, I would have much rather preferred someone outside of FE (or maybe an FE character I actually know). But Fates IS popular in Japan, right now. They're not going to do what each of us specifically want. There ARE people who do like Corrin and are happy that they are there, and it's not like Corrin does not deserve to be in this game.
Mortal Kombat fans have to deal with Leatherface and Xenomorphs getting put in their games instead of MK characters they actually want because "Hey, we're owned by Warner Bros, we can use such licenses and people actually buy that DLC." And in those situations, that really freaking sucks.
Corrin is actually owned by Nintendo.
-
Why is it that in nearly every single piece of official artwork Samus seems to have a textbook example of a "resting bitch face"?
Between having a horrible backstory*, Other M, a series unable to go beyond Fusion, Other M killing the series, and having to compare her stupid rocket boots to Bayonetta's fuckawesome gun-lined shoes you wouldn't have much to smile about either.
On another note: I'm not disappointed Corrin is in because they're a Fire Emblem rep. I was expecting them to shill Illusory Revelations tbh. Corrin's moveset looks kind of cool I guess. My problem is that Fire Emblem Fates just doesn't look good.
-

I am fully in agreement with you but I will say this. Apparently Fates is not popular in Japan. My friend who lives there said that you can easily find Fates in bargain bin all around (mostly because people only bought 1 version rather than 2). I don't think it has quite hit awakening levels. Instead, based on what Sakurai said and the fact Corrin started development as early as April makes it seem like Sakurai wanted a character from a brand new game this year. He had a choice of a Xenoblade X character, A FE character and the Inklings and for some reason went with FE. I don't know why, maybe he thought it was the safer option? Its silly but oh well, Corrin looks fun and he at least looks unique in his movesets. We finally have a manakette character in smash and that's cool.
-

!See, I agree with this. The mii costumes look more organic for human(oid) characters like Chrom, Isaac, Takamaru, Zero, etc. but they look abysmal for the likes of Tails, Knuckles, and K.Rool. I want to play as them (or pretend), but it looks like we've skinned them alive. XD

I wonder who's responsible for that?:ninja:

TBH I assumed as much. But I still envision it being similar to Jotaro from JJBA.
That being she's the type of person that's more comfortable hiding behind a stoic face; because she feels like she needs to for the sake of others and because she doesn't know how to really deal with those feelings or talk to other people as well.
All that being said, I keep this as my interpretation for the same reason I do Jotaro.
[hide]
He's a much more relatable and enjoyable character when you envision that behind the stoic gaze and uncaring demeanor, he's a socially awkward, inclusive geek who doesn't have a clue about how to talk to people. All while being a genuine badass at the same time who genuinely cares. A sofie who can be as hard as a rock when he needs to be.For me, it works well with Samus too.
[/hide]And I will attest to my opinion that Samus' rocket boots are awesome. That is when I use then to highkick someone feet into the air or come careening down from above on their heads.

The only thing that really ticks me off is the "among realizable characters" part. Who exactly decides who is realizable and who isn't? I am really happy about Bayonetta but this just makes it sound as if Sakurai just chose the character he deemed the most interesting.
At least the ballot showed Nintendo some of the characters people want for Smash and maybe some of them will be in Smash 5.
-
I don't want to think on the amount of characters that will be in the next smash.
If konami ever stops being crazy reclusive, snake will be back.

If they are generous enough, they could put Simon or Dracula alongside. If Capcom can give 2 representatives so they can.
-
Yeah, in the universe where konami isn't a bunch of assholes. I'd say alucard but.. Swords. So just Dracula for me, as he's in all the games.
-
Revelant
Well a "Corry" did get into the house….
-
I knew it was only a matter of time before Corrin in the house became a thing.
Goddamnit internet.

Fun fact: in the Japanese version of Sm4sh, Bayonetta gets her Japanese voice as one would expect, but not when you pick the Bayo 1 costume:
Probably a reference to the fact that the original release of Bayo 1 only had an English voice track?

"Among realizable characters" can mean many things, though.
-They don't want anime characters/non-video game characters (aka Goku)
-Characters they can't get the rights for. (Konami characters, Master Chief, Sora)
-ShrekThey might have dodged some characters, but they clearly chose one of the highest voted characters. Majority of people seem to be pleased with Bayonetta, which is pretty shocking.

Also on the topic of mii's i agree. The ones of animal characters like isabelle and tails are just messed up.
Also, Also the ballot says in japanese that it will be taken into consideration in the next smash

I mean once they opened the floodgates with 3rd-party additions like Ryu and now Cloud, then threw in another FE character, Bayonetta is looking way better than so many possible alternatives… it's comparatively a very solid choice. Also from a gameplay perspective she looks amazing.

The one Sakurai currently doesn't think he'll make? Source?

I take that with a grain of salt. Iirc, didn't Sakurai also say Brawl was the final Smash (no pun intended! ) at one point in time?
-
We all know his word is not final; the point is more that I have a hard time believing an official poll is referencing a next iteration of Smash.
-

Here you go buddy. This is a translation of the Japanases Smash Bros Ballot page where it says the submission data will be used for consideration in this smash bros game and future software.
Also they don't need Sakurai to come back to make a smash game. It's unlikely that he wouldn't come back himself but they have no rule saying Sakurai must be involved.

Pretty sure it's mean't to be from a hypothetical stand point

Yeah so it doesn't say anything about another Smash. Just that the results of this character popularity poll may be taken into consideration for any future projects of any type.

Anyone else maybe thinking the end of DLC means Smash NX is in prepro?
Might as well start my wish list (of disappoinent)!
Elma (Xeno) – essentially the only option for a second Xeno rep outside of Cross unless...
KOS-MOS (Xeno) great relationship between Nintendo and Namco makes this a legit possibility but not terribly probable
"Seven" (Xeno) my dream Xeno rep but wont get in over Elma under any circumstances
Tails (Sonic) -- would have new main instantly though Tails is less likely than
Knuckles (Sonic) which I would not mind one bit
Blaze (Sonic) absplutely will not happen but I desire it deeply
Isaac (Golden Sun) duh doi
Wolf (Star Fox) bring him backkk
Ice Climbers (Ice Climber) ditto
Wolf Link (Zelda) would be dope
Tetra (Zelda) dopest
Dixie Kong (DK) sakyrai plz
Chorus Men (Rhythm Heaven) i blame gematsu -
The only right answer to the best Xeno rep from X is Commander Hulk Hogan Vandham.
-
Sure it doesn't say exactly 'this will be used for smash 5' but it does say they may look at it for future projects. Whether that is Smash 5 (which of course they are going to do, Smash is a huge franchise), or if they look at these results and decide to include K.Rool in the next DK game because the results show he is still popular, or if they see that Isaac or Takamaru are missed and it motivates them to greenlight another GS or Murusame game (a bit of a far out idea but its just an example of what they can use the smash ballot results for, other than picking 1 character from them to put in Smash 4).
-
"I'll get in next time, Smash Bros. Next time!"
-
Sakurai should just work on Kid Icarus for Wii U/NX instead.
-
In all seriousness, give Sakurai a long vacation and let his next project be something not Smash.
I also don't want to start thinking about Sm5sh until…....2021 or so?
-
Yeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh I'm gonna say that this is more grasping at straws than anything else
-
Really surprised to see Bayonetta in this game, now it looks like cartoony Nintendo VS Serious Nintendo, which is not a bad thing. Also, 58 characters ? WOW.

Wait a sec, I still have the problem of not knowing where exactly it says that information. It honestly doesn't sound like something Nintendo would do.
