Wonder why they never hire the actual writers from the comic books to do the stories.
Like nobody can write a Deadpool story like Fabian Nicieza, so why not tap him.

@Daz:
Curiously, in the reviews I've read, the "Body horror" element is usually listed as one of the more effective and interesting aspets of the movie.
It was definitely the most interesting thing in the film but had no place in it. When you think Fantastic Four, you shouldn't think "surprisingly gruesome". Even forgetting the brand, the tone of the movie was all over the place. If it at least had dedicated itself to one thing, it wouldn't have made it good but at least it would have been consistent and might have been more interesting.

I have a feeling there's a ton of Thing smashing skulls of enemy combatants in left on the cutting room floor.

I mean… it's not like I wanted the FF movie to completely fail. I mean… I actually was an American comics fan in the past, and I loved basically every major Marvel and DC superhero so... I was hoping it would be good. And Josh Trank directed Chronicle back in 2012, which I thought was a highly underrated and really good movie, and Miles Teller was really terrific in Whiplash, which I believe was my 4th favorite movie of last year so... I had some optimism in spite of how ill advised the project was.
And yet I still can't deny that considering Deadpool looks really good and looks like it captures the spirit of the character perfectly... it seems like making a Deadpool sequel instead of F4 (which no one seemed happy with at all) seems like a good move on FOX's part. A better move then making the new F4 anyway... sigh...

I mean… I don't know if that's necessarily a good idea quite frankly. Because, wasn't Geoff Johns a supervising writer on the Green Lantern movie? He's one of the best Green Lantern writers there ever was (essentially revolutionizing the character for modern audiences) and yet even with his advice that movie was still one of the worst superhero movies (worst movies period, actually) that I've ever seen.
Comic book writers aren't the same as screenwriters. They're similar, and some of the skills needed to be a comic book writer do in fact translate to being a screenwriter, but they're not the same. There are some fairly subtle differences between writing a comic and writing a movie so... I don't know if getting writers from the comics to do the movie stories is necessarily a good idea, quite frankly. Again, Geoff Johns working on the GL screenplay is the crowning example if you ask me.
I wanted this movie to be good. I love Sue Storm. I like the Ben and Johnny. I think Kate Mara and Michael Jordan are both great actors who deserve better. Miles Teller is good too, but his career seems pretty stable so far. I wanted this movie to succeed in the face of Johnny's casting. And I wanted a decent film version of Dr. Doom.
Sadly, it couldn't happen that way.
I honestly wouldn't worry about how the movie did as far as Johnny's casting went. I doubt whether the film did well or not, that it would affect anything in the larger hemisphere. If this was Wonder Woman, Black Panther, or Captain Marvel on the other hand…..it would suck much, much worse. Of course, there really hasn't been a bad Marvel movie yet (mediocre sure), so I'm not too worried about those as much as I am with Wonder Woman.

I didn't want it to suck, I had to pay ten bucks to watch it lol
Justice in the sense that a bad product with a bad director with an unclear vision made by a studio with bad intentions paid the price while the other product that so far looks to be fantastic is rewarded. It shows that life is sometimes fair.
Of course none of this is apparently confirmed so we'll have to see.

Writing a story yourself and giving advice on another guys story aren't the same though.
What i'm wondering is really why you'd have a guy who doesn't know his shit write the actual script, then ask the guy who absolutely knows his shit to look it over and maybe tweak the script a bit. Instead of getting the proven writer to do his thing.

Is it though? Seems, to my uninformed mind, that you don't neccesarilly have to ask the writer to write the movie script shot by shot, even though that seems to be essentially what a comic book layout is, they could just get the genuine feeling story and characterization from him. And if neccesary you could then get someone to tweak his story and streamline it for film, if his writing is somehow unfilmable.
And on a side note, as an outsider to the business i find myself thinking that someone who doesn't "know" how to write for film, might be just what they need, to stop making stuff that looks and sounds like everything else. Roll the dice a little Hollywood
Wonder why they never hire the actual writers from the comic books to do the stories.
My best guess is because the writers would have to compromise their vision to have their material work on the big screen…....also some of that doesn't always work well just look at Frank Miller's work.
Apparently Miles Teller and Josh Trank almost got into a physical altercation during filming.
And Josh begged for Miles to be in his movie.
As for Kate Mara (Sue Storm) on the other hand….apparently Josh just treated her like crap the entire time because he never wanted her in the first place.

Shame too given that I still maintain that Chronicle was one of the better movies of 2012 and that following that movie I felt that Trank had genuine potential as a director and I wanted to see what he would do in the future. That's pretty much vanished right now.
Although… I suppose even good movies can be made by horrible people... I mean just look at Mel Gibson. Horrible, horrible man, who's a racist, a misogynist and an anti-Semite but... I still maintain that Apocalypto and (God help me) The Passion of the Christ are highly underrated films that Gibson even went into the painstaking of trouble of writing in Ancient Mayan and Aramaic respectively so... being a dick and being a good director are not mutually exclusive things quite sadly.
Although... given the complete and utter failure of this new F4 on basically every level I can't help but wonder if maybe Josh Trank just happened to get lucky with Chronicle and maybe I was wrong to see potential in him. We will see I guess. I mean, if he gets work from now on which... I'm not even sure is necessarily a possibility at this point. And... I wish I could feel bad for him for how utterly fucked his career seems to be at this point but... somehow it's a little hard to feel bad for a guy who essentially dug this hole for himself through his own dickishness. It's just, kind of hard to really have any sympathy even if I did like his first film.

Both points i hadn't considered. Thanks for the input Green.

Frank's stuff does fine on screen. Sin City was pretty decent, and though I didn't care for it, 300 worked.
Now if you mean Frank Miller's work, when he's unfiltered with no other director, like on the Spirit, then yeah. But thats because Frank went nuts (more than he already was) 20 years ago.
Just imagine him and Trank getting together (somehow) to make a movie….especially one based on an established comic book property.
300 was a comicbook movie? Who would've thunk it.
Eh atleast Snyder's movies look interesting. Like Sucker punch
The 300 comic is really boring, but at least sells the concept of "this isn't what actually happened, it's just the one-eyed guy trying to psyche up the army" better than the movie did.
Personally I find ol' Frank to be overrated in general. I haven't really liked any of his stuff.

He did some good stuff on Daredevil. Established a lot of lore
But he's kind of a one note guy. Not bad if you like that note though
So Patrick Stewart is back as Professor X. All is right with the world.

Yeah, Snyder knows how to make movies look good, so when I heard he was directing Man of Steel, I thought that it would at least have that going for it.
…and then for whatever reason, he didn't make it look pretty. Just gray.
I will never understand how two adults can get up in each others face and dare one another to start throwing punches.
but when something can only be attributed to "a source" I tend to take that information with a grain of salt depending on the legitimacy of the news venue.
Civil War trailer from D23. LQ version

Pretty sure that's fake. It doesn't match up with any of the descriptions of the trailer people saw. Well-done, though.
You're absolutely right post is deleted my bad everyone.
The trailer is fake, but there IS info about the footage that was shown at D23 from both Civil War and Doctor Strange. Or rather, footage from Civil War and concept art from Strange since they haven't started shooting yet.

Please no…can she look the part yes. Can she act to save her life? no.
It's cool she's into nerd-stuff and all, but that doesn't make me want to see her as a lead actress in a Marvel-Movie.
I can only hope the Marvel Executives have more tact to just shove her into a role just because she got photoshopped into the role and looks the part (kinda sorta). Hopefully they'll take one glance at her performance in Furious 7 and Expendables 3 and go with someone that has a bit more credibility in the acting department.
Heck, I can't even see Marvel throwing her a bone and giving her a throwaway one-time villain role. Her performance is just that…grating.

If Scarlett Johannson is any indication fans don't care about the quality or the ability of an actor or even the accolades those actors have received for those. All they care about is whether this hero or that hero is in the movie and how much screen time they're going to get or relevance to the plot they're going to have.

Huh? ScarJo is a good actress.
Huh? ScarJo is a good actress.
Oh I know….most people seeing her in Avengers could care less.
Blackwidow is sorta bland in how her personality comes across. She's kinda reserved and makes a snarky or witty comment here and there. But she's not really…Fun? She has so few flaws to poke fun at, if any. She's got no powers like Hawkeye but she's got excellent non gimmicky fighting skills. I dunno if it's Scarlet doing a good job of conveying how Blackwidow should be or not lol.
I'm glad she's not getting a stand alone movie really. It'd probably just be like La Femme Nakita but with super powerful beings anf better tech showing up.
A Blackwidow solo movie probably would be way more fun. Characters like that work better in their own enviroments. Kinda like how Wolverine is so much more fun when he's dicking around in some backalley in Madripoor than he is when he's around the other X-men fighting world topplers.
I'd rather he stick with the X-men. It's just 2 hours of him being rough and tough and womanizing. To me he's better in smaller doses but really DoFP was the only movie where he wasn't heavily featured.
If Marvel can make agent carter work they can definitely make a black widow movie.

huh and here I thought he was since… well isn't Logan the one they sent back in time instead of Kitty ?
I thought he was pivotal to the plot due to that. But then... due to the big ass rewrite (how the hell does Kitty's power allow to send Logan's mind back?) I refused to watch the movie.
I think Tagg means First Class since he only has that beautiful "fuck off" cameo in it.
You should definitely give it a chance, Katz. It's extremely enjoyable even if some details have been changed.
Yeah I meant First Class my bad.
And Jab is right DoFP is a pretty good flick. For me it was the best in the series since X-2.
He still wasn't that heavily featured even though he was the one being sent back, at least compared to the other X-men movies. I'd say young Xavier had more of a presence in DoFP
Wolverine was heavily pushed for DoFP, which makes it really weird that he's completely inconsequential once Xavier snaps out of his funk (so like, half the movie), yet the film continues to treat his time travel as some big important thing even after that. Personally, I think the movie is overrated, with two solid acts, and a complete mess of a finale.
Anyway, appearantly an old, more MCU-ey and totally not grounded at all FantFourstic script has surfaced.
http://birthmoviesdeath.com/2015/08/18/what-was-fantastic-four-like-before-simon-kinberg
Theres still a bunch of the same elements, like the body horror, Ben as an army weapon and a greatly revamped Doom origin, BUT it at least seems more upbeat and lively, recreating the cover of F4 #1, and features Doom doing a hostie takeover of Latveria.
Unless Doom starts kicking up the science factor and drags the Baxter tower into space or something i'm not impressed.
Or the time machine. Everyone loves Doom's time machine.
sorry, no time machine. But he does makes a giant Dark matter cannon to try and kill Galactus
@Daz:

Eh it's something atleast. But i'm in the minority who thinks they should go a bit more goofy with the tech.
Doom's whole charm to me was that he always had some goofy ass weapon in his suit. Like 60's style craziness.
First Class is my absolute favorite X-Men film, I liked the Xavier and Magneto relationship. Heck, it's a pretty good film centered on Magneto's development. Wasn't the movie originally a Magneto origins film anyway?
DoFP was ok. Solid enough to be a good X-Men, but I dunno. It's missing something and just didn't leave a big impression on me.

The writers mentioned in an interview why they chose Logan instead of Kitty. Mainly because of how young Kitty was in the movie, sending her mind back to her younger self wouldn't be possible because she wasn't born by then. Even still, they could've simply changed the rules of time travel with that and send her body back entirely if they wanted, but hey, they gotta make Wolvy the main character again somehow.

That script looks better than what's supposedly in theaters, although the whole Moloid subplot doesn't seem all that necessary. Even if they had a version with all that stuff in it (Mole Man included), I'd probably actually see it.
Wow, that is one jam-packed script. I'm no F4 expert but does Doom ever act as a herald for Galactus? Seems like this script tried to smash half of the Silver Surfer into the more regular origin story.
Basically it looks like Trank and Fox kept all the worst features of this script and none of the good.
