Regardless of I&F being quite indecisive Blastly did more than expected. Not that interesting of a fight despite that.

I would say I&F avoid getting to much damage from the last explosion through his flames.

No, he wan't faking to taunt Bakugou to use a stronger attack. Bakugou always go big anyway.
He was ready to use his flames, but unlike the match with Deku where he was entirely focused and simply forgot about his father and all the abuse, this time he wasn't focused at all and the moment he activated his fire he immediately remembered.
Bakugou specificall says he wants them both to fight with all their strength. He doesn't feel right trying hard if Todoroki isn't competitive in the fight.
There's no evidence of Todoroki forgetting and remembering. There are tons of thoughts in this chapter; if he suddenly realized what he was doing I would expect a shot of his startled eyes, or of his father, or him thinking some form of "no." The better explanations are that he either did it intentionally or he briefly found conviction before letting it slip away. He's much too embroiled in his own thoughts to focus on the fight and forget his internal conflict.
Not entirely sure what to think of the chapter.
On one hand, it's interesting to see the trope of all-out-fighting die like that, its a nice message that sometimes people don't go all out. I like that Todoroki wasn't magically over his problems, and as much as I feel his flashback and the part where Deku convinced him to use flames were questionable, the friendship the two seem to be forming is nice.
On the other hand, this was the final fight of the tournament. It was an incredibly hyped fight, and it ends like this in one chapter? It's a bit of a letdown.
But I'll give it a "good" anyway. The art's great as usual, the fighting was enjoyable and I'll hand it to the author for at least trying something different, especially considering this is a shonen.

Right after summoning his flames, we see a panel with some of his memories.
He did intentionally lose, but he didn't try to fake anything.

Stupid panel-within-panel flashbacks make them easier to forget:getlost:
Ok, but I prefer the explanation that he never forgot, his conviction just briefly outweighed them.
I feel the arc shouldve been longer, Im glad we are getting good amount of character development but the tournament felt a bit rushed.
There will be another tournament next year.
And don't forget that with Stain, there's evil afoot. Evil that did not interrupt the tournament as it was going on, so probably gearing up for the next arc
Tournament's not over, just the freshman-only portion. Bakugou is supposed to fight later against the winner of each of the other three grades.
While true that there's an all class round robin that Midoriya mentioned, the main part we have investment in in terms of the characters with the main focus for the series has concluded.
With most of the characters introduced for the freshie class and giving them bits of development here and there, hopefully we can move on to arcs with more fleshed out fights.
The event's still going, so most of the characters should still theoretically be focused on it. But you're right that we have no investment in any of the other classes, and trying to development some investment at this time would probably be a poor idea. This arc really expanded and fleshed out the cast, so it makes sense to stop and work with them for a while rather trying to keep expanding.
I'm curious to see where the story goes next, since most of the students should still be interested in watching the other classes fight. Maybe it's a multi-day thing and something else will come up?
Hard to believe there's already 100 pages. Seems only yesterday Midoriya was crying buckets over being quirkless.

How do you know anyone from the upper classes won't be apart of the main focus?
I bet that at least the winners of their individual rounds will be important.
I'd prefer if it kept to class A and fleshed them out at this point. There's so many characters already, so even more really might lead to too much. But maybe a couple from the upper classes would be alright, I guess? Just not another whole class.
Oh yeah, one thing that's been bugging be since last week: Todoroki told Bakugou that "Midoriya basically said the same thing", but what was he talking about?

Oooh. That makes sense.
Kinda weird he'd make a callback to something so small, though.
Wow, I really didn't expect Bakugou to win.
Wow, I really didn't expect Bakugou to win.
It wasn't that surprising.
MHA may have a lot of qualities, but it isn't the most original manga.
If you take into account that:
-Bakugou pretty much had 0 moments where he overcame a serious opponents (he was out vs the bad guys in the invasion, lost to Deku, won vs the class B dude in cavalary)
-Todoroki had an emotional draining situation in the last chapters
-Bakugou losing again could put is character at risk
This was a very possible outcome.
Todoroki lost, but he didn't really lost. Bakugou won, but he didn't really won.
It was the vanilla conclusion. Both characters manage to retain their status in the story.
Chapter 44 spoilers:
!
! That is fucking hilarious (and totally necessary)
hahaha. That's great.

How could we hate Kacchan … he is f**king adorable .. :)

I'm pretty sure that's the only reason Deku puts up with him
chapter 44 : http://www.ishuhui.com/archives/373971
How could we hate Kacchan … he is f**king adorable .. :)
Alright, haven't done a summary in a while.
! It's the awards ceremony, with Tokoyami in 3rd place, Todoroki in 2nd, and Kacchan bound and gagged in 1st place.
Iida was supposed to share 3rd place with Tokoyami, but family matters happened and he had to leave early.
! Here comes All Might to award the medals!
He gives words of advice for both Tokoyami and Todoroki.
But when it comes to Kacchan, all he kept saying was how his victory was meaningless and that he won't accept it (All Might makes him accept it anyway).
! For the next two days, the academy will be preparing for the pro-hero draft, so school's off for the weekend.
! Iida visits the Hosu general hospital with his mom. Ingenium barely made it alive, and is disappointed that he lost when his little brother was idolising him so much…
! Shouto plans to go to the hospital to meet his mom. He does this without telling his dad, which worries his eldest sister.
He wants to reorganise his thoughts and follow his heart. He thinks what he should do now is speak with his mom.
! Ochako returned to her apartment to find her door unlocked.
And who should surprise her but none other than her parents!
They came all the way to celebrate her hard work together!
! Deku's mom fainted 7 times!
She tells him she's actually had it worse than Deku because she's been worrying so much.
This serves to remind Deku that he needs to find a new way of using his power. One that won't make others worry about him so much. That's the first step he must take before he can say "For I'm here!"
! Kacchan takes his anger out on the germs in his mouth! He really is adorable!
It's such a rarity to see parents exist at all in a series these days, actually probably in general. The parents are so often either missing or dead.
Kacchan Red Onis so hard it's adorable.
! Ingenium didn't die? Wow, that's surprising, thought for sure that they'd be setting up an Iida's revenge subplot.
! Looks like the festival didn't get interrupted either!
! All Might's hugs are absolutely adorable.

Grrr!!!
Bakugou is starting a war against the caries!
Can I just say how much ass this chapter kicked? When do we ever get to see characters' families!? This is the family theme from Bulge done right! I want to see what Bakugou's mom can do
I like that INgenium didn't actually die. I had been thinking it was lame to kill him off without ever actually showing him. It's one thing to know Iida admires him, but it loses it's edge if we never see why or see them interact
I think Ochako might be my favourite character just based on all the different faces she pulls, she's the most emotive heroine I've seen in a while. Her mum pushing her eyeballs back in place cracked me up so much. I like how she inherited her mum's rosey cheeks and hair and inherited her dad's eyebrows too.
Also Shouto's sister…umf
Very Good chapter.
Bakugou was funny, how they restricted him in the award ceremony and when he was brushing his teeth at home.
Ochako was very adorable when she arrived home and her parents were waiting for her, she continues to grow on me.
That was great. I think my favorite parts were the parts with Bakugou (him chained on the first place and the angry teeth-brushing) and Ochako meeting her parents, particularly the gag with her mother poking her eyeballs back to their sockets. It was just really charming.
Gotta say, great chapter. Especially the shot where we see Todoroki's mother properly for the first time, beautifully drawn. (Excepting her cameo in the first chapter).
And I gotta say – in Japanese culture, using dialectal speech is associated with extreme stereotypes, especially Osakan Japanese. See, for example, Haruhi, which is all but explicitly set in Osaka, but everybody speaks like they're from Tokyo. Or compare the English and Japanese versions of Xenoblade, where in the former people use dialects from all over the UK, while in the latter, the humans all speak Tokyo Japanese.
So it's really nice to have Ochaka legitimately speak Osakan, even if it's only sometimes, and not have her be a stereotype.
Finally, my prediction for Izuku's alternative fighting style -- since he did so well with that armor fragment in the obstacle course race, I'm betting he'll be taken up by a Captain America-like pro-hero and trained to use a shield.
I really wanted to see Tokoyami's family.
And boy, that Tomura was creepy as hell and Todoroki's mom is best looking mom since Holly.
Looking forward to seeing Todoroki inviting Midoriya for lunch.
Omg the panels where All Might forced the medal into Bakugou's mouth and then he just stood there with it hanging from his clenched teeth had me laughing so hard.
Oh Kacchan, never change rofl
I really wanted to see his family
maybe next week? fingers crossed
Hi, guys! Do you know any information, besides the cover, regarding the 4th volume?
So it's really nice to have Ochaka legitimately speak Osakan, even if it's only sometimes, and not have her be a stereotype.
Yeah… I tried to give her father a blue-collar/colloquial sounding voice in all his lines during the phone call a couple of weeks ago (also because her family's in construction). But without making him sound like an idiot, of course.
That stuff's tricky.
Absolutely loved every second of the chapter. Bakugo wins it by a mile, but everyone else is great too. And their families! They have actual families, that's amazing.
All in all, I really liked this arc. I think the author can do better, but it'd be disrespectful of me not to appreciate what we got.
I'm still not fond of when Deku convinced Todoroki and Todoroki's flashback, but the way they dealt with it afterwards made up for it, and overall I love the character development. That's basically the entire arc, I don't like how some things were handled (like Bakugo's final match) but the reactions of the characters are so fitting both to the readers' feelings while simultaneously developing that I don't mind. It's not easy writing an intentionally disappointing moment and make it good, if that makes sense. It's dangerous, but it makes the manga unpredictable. Speaking of, the twist with Iida and the new villain was great - everyone was so focused on the big names Deku, Todoroki and Bakugo that the moment was genuinely shocking - I don't think I've been that shocked in a long time. You really feel for him.
There's also how a lot of the fights were skipped, but in hindsight I'd rather have an arc that's too short than an arc that drags on forever. And it gives the following chapters a chance to continue showcasing the class.
And the tournament was finished. And there's actual parents. And people nearly die and main characters lose. I adore how I can't tell what will happen next!
Omg the panels where All Might forced the medal into Bakugou's mouth and then he just stood there with it hanging from his clenched teeth had me laughing so hard.
Funny thing is: He is still had in his mouth when he was on class.
Oh Kacchan, never change rofl

We saw his mom in one panel in one of Bakugou's flashbacks, the one where he looks like Calvin.
Funny thing is: He is still had in his mouth when he was on class.
Yeah I noticed that too
Great chapter, and the best part was probably seeing all the different expressions. My favorites were probably Tokoyami's two panels during and following his hug.
Did anyone else catch All Might's thought bubble with his hair-wing-things on it? He's too much.
Kacchan's amazingness goes without saying.
Does Ochako dye her hair or something? It's dark on the back, but her parents have light-colored hair.
Also, does she live alone despite being only 15?

It really is. I've really gotta level up as a translator to tackle their Osakaben to my satisfaction

I think because her family originally comes from the country Ochako stays in what looks to be student accommodation.
Her family is from somewhere in the Kansai region, probably the big city of Osaka. Personally I hope it's actually from a more inaka non-big-city area, like Wakayama or Shiga.

Horikoshi himself hails from Nagoya, not very far from Kansai at all.
