Aizen pretty much made the chapter worth reading.
How he trolled Shunsui was brilliant.

Dude in second panel has a beard, but then we see him again in the second-last panel with no beard?

Lol at reiatsu amplifying machine. Game breaking, but whoops, I forgot, didn't see how it could possibly be useful in any situation at all.
That is Omaeda, the Lieutenat of 2nd division.
Having accepted that there is nothing that can save the car crash that is this series, and that I'm just gonna kick back and watch. I LOVED this chapter. If this is gonna be shit, then there is no one I'd rather have by my side, than Aizen.
It begins, embrace yourselves.
HAHAHAHA!
Oh look, I have a "Reitsu Amplification Machine" because why not?
Will we get an explanation why the all-seeing eyes of bach didn't foresee ukitake doing this?
that's the king of trolls for you, back for one chapter and already trolling people
"Oh, you need to remove two more seals? Appeareantly they are already gone, hohohoho"
the king is back
That is Omaeda, the Lieutenat of 2nd division.
The panel above that one. 3rd seat of Ukitake's division. Kubo forgot to draw his beard.
HAHAHAHA!

Weren't you guys just a few weeks ago complaining about how things were needlessly over-explained (Urahara's gateway)?
Here's one example:
- Urahara explaining the details of the travel stuff through pseudoscience is useless, or anything beyond "we are using Ichigo's hole" needesly longwinded, forgivable if it was for a joke or anything beyond "spirit science"
Kubo takes time to explain something and the reception is "UGHH!! Get on with it, we don't care!"; Kubo introduces plot device to do just that and suddenly it's "Hahahaha, what a convenient asspull!" Where exactly is the happy medium for you guys? lol.
HAHAHAHA!

lol , while it was oddly convenient ,there were many other way which kubo could've gone with it like have kenpachi remove his eyepatch and just power up immensely and problem solved , i think it was just to bring mayuri and make him one up urahara

there's a big difference between what can be considered a logical consequence (ichigo made a hole,we can use it!) and doesn't need further explanations and something that literally comes out of nowhere to resolve a problem
that being said, the strange thing is that the issue was presented in this same chapter..so i don't really understand why write in the story the fact that they don't have enough reiatsu and a page later show a machine that amplifies reiatsu
I don't see so much of a problem with that reiatsu amplification machine.
It's probably not portable and it probably has a limited range. Like Mayuri's lab or something.

Except it did warrant further explanation because even Yhwach couldn't just jump into the hole Ichigo created, he needed to use a special key that Haschwalth had in his possession. It wouldn't have made any sense for Urahara's group to simply jump in the hole and arrive at the palace when it was previously shown to not be that simple.

Not an invalid argument, I'll admit.
But - for me anyways - I think Kubo tends to overcomplicated his spiritual world by throwing in a lot of science lingo, like it's supposed to flow so easily. Here's an example: Rukia's Bankai has lower her body temperature to the point where the molecules in her body do not move at all (like a perfect crystal at 0 K), that's she essentially not "living". But by principle, she is a soul reaper, and technically isn't "alive" to begin with.
A shonen world can have all kinds of crazy rules (One Piece, Bobobo, Naruto, Dragon Ball)…..but with Bleach, it juggles two hemispheres, a world more realistic based on modern day Japan, and a spiritual world based on feudal Japan. There's a reason why extraterrestrial and supernatural do not cross lines, because the rules of one can't suddenly account for the other.
So yes, I wouldn't question why swords have spirits and can transform, I can't question reiatsu, the spirtual pressure of a being, but going into hard detail about them both kinda....makes it complicated?
It's like saying, Jesus was reborn on a miracle, but then explaining that his atoms began to transfer and escape through a time-space rift to recombine elsewhere.

Shinigami are alive though, they reproduce and everything.
Shinigami are alive though, they reproduce and everything.
Ah ah, I believe a fraction does so, but not the majority. Like how only few denizens of Rukongai develop reiatsu. Because if all Shinigami reproduce, you'd just get more and more Shinigami, eventually replacing the power-less people in the slums.
Anyways, yes, they technically are "alive"….they bleed, drink, eat, fine. But they manage the souls of the living world, can inhibit gigais, are invisible to almost everyone (like ghosts)

Maybe not raise the reiatsu-insufficiency as an issue if it is resolved immediately? It comes across as pure padding, and could easily be dropped entirely.
"Oh no! We have a lack of Reiatsu! This is a problem!"
!!!
???
??!!
"This is serious!"
"We must all band together to solve this problem!"
"Mayuri in the house. Did I ever mention the thingy I have that can instantly solve this specific problem?"
Kubo: And thats how you spend 4 pages of manga bitches!
At this point people have been loitering in Uraharas departure lounge for 6 weeks, constantly padded with new character arrivals and exposition. The extraordinarily convenient Reiatsu Amplifier doesn't get a pass just because it wasted our time for just 4 pages.
Yeah, the problem with Reiatsu shortage could have been solved in any number of ways.
For example, Kenpachi still has his eyepatch on.

Nope, don't try to pull that with me. Who's "you guys". Are you trying to lump me in with something I didn't say? Wasn't me dude. You can address the people who actually made a complaint about that.

That's a pretty big one up too. Urahara is the king of solving problems by always having something convient on hand.

So I'm supposed to believe this is the one instance where the same complaint isn't echoed by the masses? Astonishing! Perhpas there's hope for this place yet!

I wasn't "giving it a pass" just pointing out an inconsistency with the harsh crticism of this section.

If people don't like excessive time spent on clunky over-explanations, that means they have to like spontaneous problems instantly resolved by handwavey explanations?
Its not an inconsistency. Its two different ways of wasting the readers time.

You're supposed to be aware enough to not try and falsely lump everyone in on the same complaints or you'll just come off as wrong as you did now. The manga is bad enough for different people to have a myriad of complaints.

Which is why I asked "Where is the happy medium?" If Kubo neither making sure the readers thoroughly understand what is going on or just briefly glossing over a convenient solution is satisfactory writing, then please enlighten me as to what is.
I wasn't "giving it a pass" just pointing out an inconsistency with the harsh crticism of this section.
Believe it or not, people give credit where it's due, even in the Bleach section. I don't like Bleach, and I haven't liked it for a looong time now, and even I have nice things to say about it every now and then. Just this week I praised it's imagery with the giant black hand with eyes covering the Soul King, leaving Ukitake's body looking like a creepy lifeless doll, which was nice.
But Kubo is just way too Kubo. Kubo constantly out-Kubo's himself. And that's just funny and sad at the same time.
Which is why I asked "Where is the happy medium?"
Not in Bleach, that's for damn sure.
But to answer your question, I don't think it's really a matter of finding a "happy medium", it's a matter of just telling the story in a way that's interesting.
Presenting an obstacle for the characters is fine, but it should be resolved in an interesting or dynamic way. Have the characters make some sort of sacrifice or do something to raise the stakes. Instead we get, "Hey, I had this magic device all along that lets us proceed at no cost!"
On the other hand we have the pages of meaningless technobabble that will only relevant at this one specific plot point. Honestly, it all probably could've been omitted or at least severely condensed.

Just a few posts up someone said this:

Such a solution would have been neither interesting or dynamic.
I guarantee that had the above quote been the solution to the reiatsu issue that people would be blasting for Kubo resolving the issue that way instead. Fact of the matter is here is that it doesn't matter to this section how Kubo would have approached the issue, the track record here indicates that the majority of people would have complained about it regardless because it's popular to hate Bleach. It all still would have been a "waste of pages" 'unoriginal" or an "asspull" etc etc. This is Mayuri we're talking about here, the guys job is research and technology development, so it makes sense that he would have such a device in his lab.
i cant believe people are fighting over something so trivial, okay there wasnt enough reiatsu because ukitake was out of commission, so people lose confidence, but then the vizards come in and mayuri shows up as a way to show "were in this together dont give up yet" type of situation, thats the end of that people it was just 3 pages lmao

I didn't suggest that. You need to get it out of your head that everyone here shares the exact same thoughts and opinions.

I think it is true that we sometimes harp on things we dislike more than we should. And I think that's just true of people in general.
However, the fact remains that Bleach is just fundamentally broken and has been for a while. Occasionally, Kubo may do something that's kinda neat (pretty much everyone enjoyed Mask de Masculine if you'll recall), but it doesn't change the overall package is damaged beyond repair.
As for me, I absolutely agree that the drawn-out explanation from last chapter the Reiatsu amplifier this week were stupid wastes of time. Also, it's not a matter of whether or not it makes sense for Mayuri to have the amplifier, it's that, from a narrative standpoint, the whole exchange is completely pointless. "We have a problem and we'll immediately solve it with a deus ex machina!" Boy, that added a lot.
Everyone on the internet is actually the same person
**No one really knows.
No one really cares.**
This perfectly embodies the current state of Bleach.

This time it was 3 pages, in another chapter is 6 pages, in another one is 2, then 7 and so on. Little by little useless pages pile up on each other, and the series suffers heavily from it. It's the very reason why bleach has over 600+ chapters with very little happening if you summarize it compared to other series with 600+ chapters.
It's the same concept of not worrying for 3 bags of trash left on the road at first, but as time goes on and if no one solves the problem they begin to pile up too, and here is the same.

Someone? Not to keen on remebering names, eh Memento?
I don't see how Mayuri's amplification device is better for the plot than Kenpachi removing his eyepatch, or Vizards taking out some batteries they used to store Reiatsu, or whatever.
We come back to the fact that the whole deal with Reiatsu shortage was padding.
Besides, if you payed any attention, you'd know I don't have a problem with the device itself. It probably isn't portable and it probably has a limited area of effect, so I doubt it could be used anywhere outside Mayuri's lab and there was no fighting there in the second attack.
I didn't suggest that. You need to get it out of your head that everyone here shares the same thoughts and opinions.
Yes, and I thought I made it clear in that statement that I wasn't talking about you, specifically. I guess not.

It's fine that you hold this opinion, but it's far from "fact." Bleach is far from perfect, but people (myself included) would not pour money into supporting Bleach if it were as bad as this section often exaggerates it to be.
Not every panel of every chapter has to add something significant to the story. As someone else previously mentioned, that scene was thrown in there for the sake of Mayuri finally being able to get one-up on his more brilliant predecessor who has trolled Mayuri several times already in this arc.

Lets try not to attack each other on personal levels. Thanks.
I didn't say your example of how it could have been resolved would have been a better or worse way to handle it.
I never said you had a problem with the device.
Like you, I have no problem with the device and I wouldn't have had an issue with Kenpachi solving the problem, either. I used your quote as an example in a conversation I was having with another poster about how no matter how Kubo opted to handle the situation that the core complaint would have remained the same.

to some extent i agree with you, but the main reason for why stuff take a lot of pages is because of the way kubo draws his panels , he likes to draw them in a 'cinematic' type of way to show them from different angles and such like with this weeks chapter we see mimihagi coming out of ukitakes body which was pretty cool, this is nothing new though,, and as i said , it was just to raise morale in a way and to show that 'were helping each other out' ,
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH YES YES YES YES Aizen is back fk yehhhhhhhhh time to re read bleach again
lol , while it was oddly convenient ,there were many other way which kubo could've gone with it like have kenpachi remove his eyepatch and just power up immensely and problem solved , i think it was just to bring mayuri and make him one up urahara
Actually, the simple fact that Love, Hacchi, Hiyori and Lisa joined the group after that should be reason enough to provide the reiatsu they were lacking.
Not that it would make the scene less stupid, though. "Here, I will introduce an obstacle just to immediately surpass it without the whole scene having any consequence whatsoever". The problem, as Daz said, is not what solved the problem, but the problem being presented just to be solved right away making the whole scene useless - and an obvious attempt to waste pages.
It seems like Kubo simply wanted an excuse to make Mayuri join the group (making you wonder why not simply put Mayuri there since the start along with Byakuya and the others). I hope we don't have new inserts to show the zumbi captains joining too.
The art is fucking atrocious and I can't actually tell what's happening.
In like 3 panels, Aizen has already become more interesting than the rest of this arc.
Will we get an explanation why the all-seeing eyes of bach didn't foresee ukitake doing this?
His eyes were all-seeing EXCEPT FOR THIS ONE THING
All glory to Tite Kubo
edit: I also like how Mustachio is all baffled that the Soul King's right hand cares enough to interfere. Why would he care indeed? It's not like everything is going to disappe….. oh. Ah.

it kind of makes sense , after all the soul king is juhas father and ukitakes mimihagi is the right hand of the soul king …

all according to aizen's keikaku
Why does it makes sense?
why wouldnt it ? http://www.mangareader.net/bleach/611/16 juha said that he can see into the future too , so you would assume the soul king himself would take matters into his own hands if something this serious was going to happen
"Since when you were under the impression you unlocked just my mouth?"
