That Master Roshi voice is certainly… something.

Moving on.
Discuss. Name changes especially.
Never watched the DragonBall Movies or the Harmony Gold dubs…....is that a good thing.
-
Nonsensical name changes aside (Bulma's name is on her shirt for God's sake) that movie was actually pretty good. I've never seen any of the non Z movies before but this was a pretty charming movie. Whoever wrote the script did a good job because it was actually quite funny.

I'm more weirded out by that 'dub' of the theme song. Wow.
Also, Mystical Adventure is the best pre Z movie. Just saiyan.

Yeah. That was my first thought, too. That was an… interesting choice regarding the... let's go with translation

For the record, here's a list of Harmony Gold name changes

My favorite is Karin being changed to Whiskers the Wonder Cat.
And, you know, in a way, I do like the old poorly translated and poorly dubbed anime of the 80's. There's just…something endearing about them.

Mystical adventure was cool (general Blue as a righteous guy? Chaotzu as a child emperor?), and worked surprisingly well as a retelling of DB till the King Picollo arc…
...but the second one is still te best. Great atmosphere, great action, great villain. Always had a soft spot for it. -

There's apparently a Malaysian Dub of the Bojack Movie that changes his name to "Infinite Hands".

Hey! Bulma here!
Just 53 days left until the movie’s premiere!
T-Today we’ve got…why, it’s a comment from the voice of Freeza, Ryūsei Nakao!Nakao: I was incredibly happy when I heard that I was coming back as Freeza for this movie. I didn’t get the chance to participate last time, so when against all odds it turned out I’d get to come back to life one more time, I went “yippy!” (laughs)
I was already looking forward to the story since I knew sensei was writing it himself, but it was still really fun to see just how Freeza gets resurrected. That the character of Freeza has survived for so long thanks to everyone’s support makes me happy in the extreme.
Even though it’s a series from 25 years ago, after all this time I’m still fortunate enough to play Freeza in some form or another every year, which made me feel that it wasn’t quite over yet. I’m incredibly grateful that people think that “Freeza=Ryūsei Nakao”. There aren’t too many series or characters out there that get people saying things like that about us, so they’re our greatest joy.
It’s a very important series for me, since thanks to it I’ve got my current position where people go “if it’s a bad guy, have Ryūsei Nakao voice him!”
I think he’s a character who’s been nurtured by the fans.
**All you Freeza fans, please watch until the very end!
If you watch until the end, then maybe once more…**
Slim chance Frieza survives in the movie?

Freeza will reform and become a good guy at the end. The ending scene will be him at a party eating alongside Vegeta and Krillin
-
I wouldn't even be shocked at that.
-
At the most I expect Freeza to learn the joy of hard work during the climatic battle as his training pays off. I don't think he'll die, but I don't see him turning an instant Tenshinhan, Piccolo or Vegeta on us.
-
Has anyone here heard of the laughably terrible Dragon Ball Minus?
-
the manga should have ended after namek saga frieza was the perfect final villain imo
-
@Purple:
Freeza will reform and become a good guy at the end.
If Freeza goes the Vegeta route, which would mean that three of the four main villains of DBZ achieved some degree of redemption.
So, if this film is successful, it'll be Cell's turn next.
-
If cell is also redeemed, then it's just General Red as a still bad big bad, maybe Picoro's dad, but he's a reincarnation or somehting weird.
-
Piccolo, Jr. probably counts as being the same being as the original or else Kami would have died when Goku killed Piccolo, Sr.
-
Don't forget Emperor Pilaf the biggest bad of all. If you tick him off he might just blow you a kiss. Gross~
-
Piccolo, Jr. probably counts as being the same being as the original or else Kami would have died when Goku killed Piccolo, Sr.
Eh not quite. I always interpreted the situation there as Piccolo Jr being a totally different person (his son), but one born with the memories and life force of a totally different person (his father).
The life force got magically transferred so Kami was fine. But Piccolo Jr is still his own person.
Even when he was flexing as the Demon King reborn he still had a very different personality and vibe from the father? -
Yeah, Nameks are weird. I was always confused about Piccolo since the whole spitting up eggs thing was shown to be normal reproduction later, but obviously not all of them inherit their parent's life force so what Piccolo did was special somehow? When Nameks fuse they transfer life force and memories so maybe he did some weird form of fusion with his offspring? Whatever.
-

Tao Pai Pai? He was the first major antagonist to defeat Goku..
He wasn't a "boss" villain, but definitely more relevant than General Red.
-
The anime team goofied the shit out of Tao Pai Pai during a bizarre filler episode where Goku is forced to solve a puzzle or something. It wasn't redemption or anything close, but man did they turn him into a clown.
As for Freeza redemption…there should be a limit to it. Freeza is the ultimate universal genocider, there's nothing on his level. He just LOVES being evil, it's his trade, the way he earns money, is cheerfully wiping out any trace of life of planets around the universe and selling them. That's Disney evil.
-
So in just 4 months of training Frieza will make such a big jump in power.

Even when he was flexing as the Demon King reborn he still had a very different personality and vibe from the father? He's both. He is still his father, Piccolo Daimao. He has his soul / life force and memories. But he is not just and purely his father. There's a degree of him that is Piccolo Daimao's son, which is different from Piccolo Daimao.
Basically, what Piccolo Daimao did was, have a son, and then he "fused" himself (soul and life forece) with his son to escape the normal path of death.
As for his minions, that's stated in guidebooks to be a demon ability. Piccolo Daimao was not just a Namek, but also a demon. That combination allowed him to give birth to mutated minions.
-

Piccolo Sr used lots of magic, so it's clear why there was differences like that and how the rest of his children looked all weird and not like Nameks.
-
Also there's the fact that he was retconed into an alien. But yeah, a wizard did it.
-

Agreed. Freeza is a genocidal monster, but he never fails to entertain. The polite delivery and sadistic attitude slowly dissolving into cockiness, panic, and shock (as Goku continued to surpass him in their battle)…..man Ryusei Nakao is the best, glad to see he still loves doing the role.
-
Yeah, him and Kōichi Yamadera being together is probably going to be the best aspect of the movie.

Tsundere Vegeta.
Bulma: Hey! Bulma here!
Just 52 days left until the movie’s premiere!
Today my husband Vegeta swung by!Vegeta: ……………
Bulma: What’s the matter, Vegeta? Don’t stand way over there! I’m here, so what are you so nervous about?
Vegeta: Sh-Shut up!!
Bulma: Look, just talk about the movie! Freeza’s being resurrected, after all!
Vegeta: Hmph, Freeza? What could he possibly do if he were to come back now? My goal is Kakarrot, only Kakarrot! Nobody else matters.
Bulma: Yeah yeah, this guy never changes! He’s always training! I guess lately he’s been training with Son-kun over at Beerus’ attendant Whis’ place… geez, what’s the matter with Saiyans?! But it looks like Freeza’s getting even stronger too, so you and Son-kun better go give him a good thrashing!
Vegeta: I refuse to team up with Kakarrot. No matter how strong Freeza may become, I’m more than enough to handle the likes of him! The heck with 52 days, get over here right now!

Did i miss anything or is there a complete absence of references to Goten and Trunks being in the movie? I've seen nothing..it's like they won't show up at all.

They're training Yamcha, preparing him to be next movie's villain.
It will be called "Wolf! Big Wolf! Bad Wolf! Big Bad Wolf! Get the picture?".

Bulma: Hey! Bulma here!
Just 51 days left until the premiere!
For today…Wow, even Piccolo’s stopped by! Alright Piccolo, tell us about the movie!
Piccolo: Why me!? I came over because Gohan asked me to, but apparently this is some sort of countdown…I don’t get this at all…
Bulma: What are you grumbling about?! Look, Freeza’s coming back to life, right?! Didn’t you fight him on Namek?
Piccolo: That’s right. Certainly back then none of us were any match for him, but these days…
Bulma: It doesn’t look like it will be so easy! They say Freeza’s getting even stronger! But when Son-kun heard about it, he just said it’ll be a fun fight. What a battle-mad idiot!
Piccolo: That’s just who he is.
Bulma: To top it all off, it seems Freeza’s bringing over a huge hoard of minions, so you’d better fight hard too!
Piccolo: Mmm…Well in that case, I guess I have to… -
That makes Gohan look like a complete dumbass.
-
-
I think its sad that even the prehype materials are having to "Yeah, we KNOW Freeza sucks compared to everyone else at this point. We're TOTALLY aware of that fact, and that Trunks oneshotted mecha frieza and Gohan oneshotted him in movie 12! We know! But he'll be better than that this time somehow, honest!"
-
It would be so funny if Frieza is beaten again just after the training montage, no fight, no nothing, and the end battle is against someone else.
Eh, just accept that Frieza is going to enter Beer's spirit room and train for like 4 months, in our time, but as Beers room is better than earth's, it doesn't have the limitation of "just 2 days, ever"
-
See, THAT I could accept. If Frieza went off and trained for a relative 100 years, I'd be okay with it.
4 months to catch up on all the other crazy power ups though… meh.
-
Imagine if just 4 months of training would put Frieza at almost Beers level. If he trained for a single day he probably would've surpassed super saiyan strength, so it really is just a question of why he'd be afraid of super saiyans in the first place
-

what if freiza somehow gets a modern version of the Gravity chamber like goku used?
or maybe Hyperbolic Time Chamber combined with a Gravity Chamber?
but i wonder if there is more then 1 Hyperbolic Time Chamber at all?
plus who did create the Hyperbolic Time Chamber?
-
Hey! Bulma here!
Just 50 days left until the movie debuts!
Today we’ve got a comment from the voice of Piccolo, Toshio Furukawa!
Dragon Ball has this image as a never-ending series: they continue to go on making all kinds of TV shows, movies, games, and other content, right up to this latest film. A series this enduring is pretty rare, and we voice artists are incredibly happy to be involved in such a crowning achievement in anime history.
The scenario for this movie is one I think only original author Toriyama-sensei could have come up with: centered on the charismatic villain Freeza, with lots of different characters getting a chance to show their stuff.
Dragon Ball features many charismatic villains, but out of all of them Freeza was most memorable. He’s the ultimate bad guy. So with him coming back to life, things are definitely going to heat up.
This time Piccolo has a big role too, and I gave the intense fight scenes all I had. It’s the Revival of “F”urukawa (laughs).
The highlights this time are definitely the battle scenes, with “battle” written in wild and crazy letters.
Dragon Ball is an endless series, and I hope all Dragon Ball fans will go on loving it for a long, long time to come. In any case, please enjoy seeing this latest film at the theaters!About time Piccolo has a big role, he hasnt had one since fighting 17.

And a statue .
A broken one, at that. Always adding that extra spice to everything he does, that sneaky Piccolo.

A certain point yes otherwise Buu wouldve destroyed the Earth already, and everyone wouldve been doomed for the heroes.
I wanna see Piccolo use that technique he used vs Garlic Jr in that filler arc(the technique that makes him increase in size and also increases his strength and speed).
-

Didn't his father also used the same technique?
-
He used that technique at the 23rd Budokai. But it didn't increase his strength and speed.
Also, I liked Piccolo's role in the Buu saga and his rapport with the kids. It was fun. Wish they interacted more in the movies.
