They don't. Go back and search for endings, both successfull and failures, get little fanfare.

It would be pointless, to fully promote a series that'll only be around that one week, really. But you do get things like Naruto, or Reborn!, where they get cover treatment just before, and are celebrated for their achievements.
-
All I'm saying is it makes more sense to celebrate with the last issue instead doing it one earlier, but who cares naruto is dead. At least till the mini series.^^
-
They never give cover to the end of a series.
No, Jump did give cover to the end of a series before.

What was that series?

Wasn't Slam Dunk the only one?

What was that series?
I did saw in one site which showed the list of which series got cover and color page (either lead or normal) on the last chapter. But, that site is gone and I don't remember which series there were. But, I remember there were couple (not many).
-
i think they are 3 in total Slam Dunk being the last one. Having the lead color is also probably a first since then.
-
So, I may be the only one to find that the number of characters in WT is one of its main strength. They were handled very well in the invasion arc IMO.
As for its fate, I don't see any reason to worry. Call me too optimistic if you want. It's great that MHA is a success. Seeing so many "successful" manga in the line-up from mangaka who had their previous works axed early gives me a lot of faith in the way of WSJ works.
As for Naruto, it was a good ending IMO (I'm guessing what happened to the other characters will be revealed in the short story).
I never really loved the manga but it was a good enough entertainment for many years. I'll miss it.
The messages by the other mangaka was really nice to read. I wonder if besides Oda, some others paid tribute in their chapters.
I'll be looking forward to the short story and to read Kishimoto's next work. Meanwhile, I wish him a nice break. -

Well at the very least, Bleach certainly didn't (unless the entire chapter was symbolism)But on the other hand Oda and Kishimoto are good friends iirc, so that was probably a nice touch between the two of them

Slam Dunk in fact had a Last Chapter Cover page: https://flic.kr/p/fepoZj
I remember hearing that Ring ni Kakero, Dr. Slump, Dragon Ball and Slam Dunk received a color last chapter(I don't know if it was all chapter color, cover page, lead color, color page, all of the above or if just a subset of the above).
By looking at the covers at the time of their endings, only Slam Dunk really had a cover. So the color last chapter isn't about cover at least.Ring ni Kakero ending issue of the magazine had a cover with the 4 more popular titles of the time(Except itself of course); Kimengumi, Dr.Slump, Kinnikuman and Kochikame: https://flic.kr/p/fekUPJ
Dr. Slump with an anime announcement of the series Yoroshiku Mechadock: https://flic.kr/p/femWnU
Dragon Ball with a cover of BOY: https://flic.kr/p/fepbCYAlso looked into Yu Yu Hakusho, Rurouni Kenshin(Samurai X) and Death Note, but none of them had it.
-
I also like the number of characters in World Trigger. I have issues remembering their names, but I like that the series has the numbers to pull off macro strategy of higher level than what we usually get from battle series. Of course, I also like that the author does actually utilize said characters in strategies.
-
According to the official twitter acct, Hero Academia is selling like crazy (basically sold out, they have already ordered another printing)
so it looks like fortune is finally shining on Horikoshi
Has there been any official announcement for an English translation?
-
It is announced that Ore Monogatari!! (series from Bessatsu Margaret) going to get an anime.
-
I'm kind of surprised this wasn't animated yet. This is good to hear.

Hmm, you would think they would give naruto the entire jump cover again, considering it is the end of the series. Also 50th issue, 700th chapter.
no other manga got last chapter full color(to the best of my knowledge)..so it is not a bad bargain..
-
At least Dragonball, Slam Dunk and Ring ni Kakero had the same treatment for their ending.
-
At least Dragonball, Slam Dunk and Ring ni Kakero had the same treatment for their ending.
only Slam Dunk got cover by current standard..
-
Slam Dunk had the magazine cover and all colour ending chapter.
Dragonball and Ring ni Kakero didn't get the cover, but both had all colour ending chapters.
There were probably more manga to get the same treatment, however the early magazine archives aren't that easy to check.
-
I'm pretty sure it didn't really happen in the old, old days. Big hits like Shameless School and Wilderness Boy Isam didn't get anything, and they were two of the three or so big hits of the early period. It's probably best to look into the 80s onwards for instances of it.

It seems really good, have really high hopes for this one.

Serious question, do you think Jump will take a huge hit now that Naruto is over? Should they be in panic mode?

@All:

It depends on whether Jump going to find a successor of Naruto or not. At current stage, I think it going to have impact on Jump's current popularity.
-
@All:
Serious question, do you think Jump will take a huge hit now that Naruto is over? Should they be in panic mode?
Yes, obviously it'll affect them some, but… Ass Class and Shokugeki No Soma are both pretty huge hits that have stayed high in the rankings since they premiered, that sell millions of copies of the tanks, (and AssClass is about to get an anime so it'll be even bigger) and Toriko is a standard middle runner. And OP is obviously still running.
They're fine. Naruto leaving just means the ranking are going to jumble a little and there's finally more room for new series to take root and succeed, a tiny bit more leeway with that extra spot opened up.
They weren't affected at all when Bleach plummeted in rankings and lost its anime. Or when HxH goes on its constant hiatuses.
What's going to be interesting is what happens when that dayfinally comes in 10-15 years and OP actually ends. That's going to shake up entire economies.

@All:

No!
And No!The hit in the magazine will not be Huge in any way; Significant? Maybe, maybe not. I bet that it will not even be significant at all.
More than one title, the magazine should care more for the overall quality of their list of titles. They have 15 stable titles and 5 irregulars(new titles and failing titles). The overall feel of the Magazine is the most important thing, not one big title they have in it. The problem is when people that buy the magazine regularly starts to think that keep buying it isn't worth anymore. That responsibility in a huge degree is not due to just one title(Some may argue that One Piece is the exception, but even that is debatable).Panic mode? WOW, only a paranoid person or institution would be in panic mode because of this. The popularity of a Magazine roads mainly in 3 things: The perceived quality of current running titles, the current visibility of the magazine(From anime, games, TV shows, commercials and other places where the magazine property appears) and reputation.
In terms of overall quality Weekly Shonen Jump is still the best! They just lost 1 title from the 15 other Amazing they already have and they still have 2 newbies with Amazing potential.
In terms of visibility, no other magazine compares to it either. Added to the fact that Naruto will still bring Games, Anime(probably) and Merchandise they are save for a really good time.
In terms reputation, no other magazine has such a reputation as Weekly Shonen Jump. The number of Epic franchises they brought to light, the more than 30 years being the indisputable #1 manga magazine, …
One time the Magazine lost a ton of amazing titles in such a short amount of time, 5 years to be precise, between 1993 and 1997: Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk, Yu Yu Hakusho, Dragon Quest, Rokuenashi Blues, Tottemo! Luckyman, Sexy Commando Gaiden, captain Tsubasa: World Youth, Keiji, Ninku, jungle king Tar-chan. Not only that but the Manga Magazine Market started declining, making the circulation going from +6.5 Million copies per week to +4 Million copies per week. They even lost their number 1 position at the time; but, even in that situation there was no panic mode. The magazine was still the #2, really really close to the new #1(at that times the biggest difference in circulation was 0.5 Million copies per week) and selling really well.
They probably only go to panic mode when there is no new good titles in a long time and when majority of their current titles start to gravely decline, like what happened with Bleach; Recently only 2010 was an horrible year, with no good new series. 2011 also wasn't nothing special with only Nisekoi. I guess that during the span of those 2 years the people of the magazine was uneasy.Instead of being preoccupied of loosing Naruto they should, and seem to be, more preoccupied with the digital format. For a long time they were loosing a big share of this new market. I hope they are really successful with Jump+, it really seems a great platform.

Looks like the entirety of the first Shonen Jump issue that contained Naruto's debut chapter is avaliable for free on Shonen Jump Plus: http://plus.shonenjump.com/client_info/SHUEISHA/html/player/viewer.html?tw=1&lin=1&cid=SHSA_JP01WJ1993043D01_57

With upstarts like AC, SnS, BnHA, and HZ, I think Jump should be plenty fine for awhile. AC may finish up in two years if it's anything like Neuro's length, but there's always more room for rookies. It's that fresh blood that keeps WSJ going

Can you get it in rar/zip format. Please! They have titles that even one chapter is hard to find. I would like to have them. Even if just a random chapter.

What phone do you have? If you have an iPhone you need a Japanese iTunes account and you can just download it from the app store like any other app. I'd imagine it's the same thing for Android devices, but I'm not familiar with them.
-
Android is probably hella easier because you should be able to install things via apk file, although it's been awhile since i've tinkered with them so I don't remember if you need root access to do that

Jump will survive whatever comes and go…it survived DB ending when popularity and circulation was at it's highest.

Of course they not died. It is just that they are not number 1 at that time (after Big 3 ended at that time).

Nexus 5 Android.
Edit:I'm gonna search about how to do it!

Well the magazine still endured 1 entire year without the big 3 in number 1, certainly greatly due to Rurouni Kenshin! And even in 2nd the magazine was almost as big as the number 1 of the time, Weekly Shonen Magazine.

WT, just get out of the bottom five, oh pardon me, it is eight now, bottom eight for god's sake! Though those should be the ratings for chapter 74 which was mostly about Torimaru and his ghost mode against Hyrein, aka a side-chara chapter. So given that it could even be considered a "good rating". Next week is about ch.75 though with Osamu/Replica and Miwa appearing. Since Miwa is sort of a Sasuke done right (aka not having an IQ in the negatives just due being blind due his hatred) and he seems to have quite a small fanbase in japan his apperance alone could get WT some more votes.
That is if Jump reacts upon those votes and does increase WT's position. After hearing in an Interview with Hattori, WT's editor, that WT got first place in the rankings according to votes amounts yet we never saw it there I don't really trust those rankings too much. <.<Looks like Sporting Salt and Hi-fi Cluster are finished though. And Judos might survive the next cancellation round but then it does not look like it can survive for much longer either.
-

I doubt that. It is possible that we didn't see WT in first place because it has gotten color page for that chapter. So, I don't think we should doubt TOC system just based on that.
-
I’m not sure it specifically said it was first place in that interview, if i remember it says the number of votes increased a lot after their scenario changes.

I'm kind of sorry for this side of the world shonen jump, they picked three… series without future instead of Hero Academy, are in afraid of a very strong taboo for using AssClass, and both Gintama and Kochikame are too long and kind of complex to just go and adapt to an american market.

I mean, they could still pick up Hero Academy, and there'll be a new round of jump starts starting next week. Not to mention Soma just started to run in it
