This theory really doesn't make any sense.
If Roci was live I think he would've contacted Law rather than join some other guys pirate crew.
Unless he loses his memory.

That's exactly what Roci wants you to think
I think this music goes best with this chapter, if not the flashback in general.
not complaining but just want to ask, I can't understand why rosinante wrote a secret letter…can't he just call sengoku and told him everything he knew like on the previous chapter?
And the characters of One Piece that appear in the page are NAmi, RUffy and TOny chopper = NARUTO
Off topic, but really facinating. Oda's just an amazing genius.
Why does the covergirl have hokage's marking? did i miss any news?

That's the lovely Nami swan. The whole cover page is a tribute to Kishimoto and his recently completed manga Naruto.
@superv:
this falshback is too sad. here's a theory thats been on my mind for a while, what if law unintentionally and without knowing switched Roci's mind with a nearby polar bear and thought that Roci was dead?
Hahq that would be great and actually possible. The only question is. Why didnt he reavel himself and pretend to be random talking bear?
Caesar also created mass murdering experiments. I know, Vegapunk probably knows about it too. . .but he doesn't seem to condone the "kill this guy = get the fruit" behaviour seeing as he's apparently close to "human" (though not beyond experimenting with prisoners).
Again, nothing points towards this method of DF extraction being something everyone does on the fly.
There's also the fact that we still don't know how reliable the whole "kill user, turn nearest [appropriate type of fruit] into a DF" method is. Sure, we've seen it happen once with Smiley and BlackBeard seems to have a knack for it. But for all we know, the later might achieve it thanks to his power of darkness and it's still possible that otherwise the new DF may turn up anywhere in the world. Which would definitely make killing the user too much of a risk compared to the chances of success.

That's a good question. The Argument that Doffy might have intercepted the call would make Roci's other calls pointless. We have to admit that the letter is just a plot device so that Vergo can immediately find out what Roci was up to with his brother.
I have a good SBS-question:
if Corazon is a title, I wonder what the real names of Diamante, Trebol and Pika might be (or in MP's words Peeker, Trevor and Dyermonte - the last one was made up by me). Hope Diamante's real Name is a reference to Steven Tyler.

Ok, it sounds way too easy to just kill a DF-user and place a fruit next to his corpse to make the fruit reappear. But then I wonder how Doffy got his Hands on Ace' DF. Ace died at the war, Doffy was present when that happened. Maybe only few People in the world know exactly how a fruit reappears once its user dies. Or Smiley's case was pure coincidence, but then I wonder why Oda showed it so detailed. BB's case is Special, we still have no idea how his darkness DF works precisely and how handy it is for ability-hunting cause he already has 2 abilities.
Watch out everyone (especially Aohige), here comes… One Piece Abridged: Mangapanda Edition – Chapter 766
!
(Also going in the One Piece/Mangapanda Abridged thread)
I agree that the letter is a weak plot device. He's a spy, writing a letter with important infos and giving it to a generic marine? Stupid at least.

In the previous chapter he said he was going to give to sengoku lotsa info, so the only reason I see for a letter, instead a call, it's the amount of details, too huge for a snail convo. It's still weird tho, I agree, but there's the recurring of the luck theme in One Piece, destiny is always important as much as your own determination to achieve what you are up to. In the end it's a very special feature of Oda's writing, like the good and bad ambiguity, in this case every D in this story has superior will and determination but it's still subject to a destiny and luck that he's not supposed to control.

It's been two years since Ace died and DD seems to be very well connected to a lot of underground networks, he probably snatched it to somebody who was willing to sell the MM fruit like he was going to do to the Ope Ope.

Sure he was on the spot, but then so were many others who might have had interest in the Mera-mera, including Blackbeard. So if the fruit reappeared then and there right when Ace died, why would it have gone to Doffy and not anyone else? Instead, I'd prefer to think that being the expert underworld DF broker the flashback has shown him to be, he had a good headstart in pulling strings (pun intended) to be the first to obtain the fruit in the aftermath of the war.
So as everybody will be killed on Minion during next chapter or two we will have to see that Dorry persona that we didnt yet seen.
I checked what Aohige wrote about Dorry thing being connected to "10" and Diaz thing but at same time I expected Bellamy to be shown during flashback so I wonder if next chapter we will see more of that Dorry person who might not be Drake in the end. He even looks like younger Bellamy so perhaps Doflamingo spared Dorrys life for some reason and if its Bellamy then it would be clear reason for his respect towards Doflamingo?
Even as Barrels is 100% Drakes father we didnt seen yet face of "Dorry". Bellamy would fit here imo more than Drake that we didnt even know if he was taken into piracy by his father at young age.
!
How does assuming Roci keeps his den den mushi on him, he didn't lose it or it got damage in the fight, and thinks he is dying but will have the strength to have an hours long discussion with Sengoku(from what Vergo said, it seems to me it would take a LONG time to explain all that over the phone) makes more sense than having Law carry the already written plans to a random marine? Its not like it was the initial plan. Roci was probably planning on giving Sengoku the plans in person but he got shot so he had to makeup a plan c.
not complaining but just want to ask, I can't understand why rosinante wrote a secret letter…can't he just call sengoku and told him everything he knew like on the previous chapter?
I agree that the letter is a weak plot device. He's a spy, writing a letter with important infos and giving it to a generic marine? Stupid at least.
The letter is a plot device, obviously, but there is "some" sort of rationale behind it. Remember last chapter Rocinante basically said by feeding de OP fruit to Law they'd be making enemies of everyone, Sengoku and the WG included. He's just basically betrayed Sengoku's trust right here.
I take the letter as the last service Rocinante did for the marines (though in this case is for the benefit of everyone, basically) before cutting his ties with everyone and going rogue with Law. Which obviously never happened, but that's besides the point.
A final call to Sengoku, omiting the fact the fruit has already been eaten, could've perfectly been done? Yes. But there's some sort of reason behind using a letter as the final "marine" act of Rocinante. Maybe he felt a bit guilty inside, who knows?
Damn, kouch beat me to it.
But yeah. While sending Law out with a letter might not have been the most pragmatic course of action, Rocinante wanted to follow up on his promise to Sengoku in addition to foiling Doflamingo's plans and saving a kingdom. Conversing over a den den mushi would have been awkward and maybe even dangerous. This was completely in line with his character.
If Law hadn't asked Vergo for help they might have been ok. But then, there are so many what-ifs in this whole flashback that it's probably best not to go down that rabbit hole.
In the previous chapter he said he was going to give to sengoku lotsa info, so the only reason I see for a letter, instead a call, it's the amount of details, too huge for a snail convo. I guess if that pointing on North blue has going to reveal any particular name.

it's also possible that the info was not a priority (since the dressrosa invasion will took place three years after, dofla was not even in the grand line at the time),but now that he was dying or disappearing forever with law he had the urge to communicate his findings
I suppose he wanted to make sure the info get passed on even if he dies. Just like his urge to feed Law the DF on the spot.

There's no reason to expect "Dorry" to be Bellamy. Everything points to Drake.
You guys make a fuss about everything. The dude was gonna go on a run with Law and Tsuru was suppose to be the one to
Receive that info but Law fucked up, also Cora doesn't use a black den den so the call can be intercepted anytime.
I get that reference, it's Garurumon.
I was serious, Cora-san looks like this Titan from Shingeki No Kyojin in the last pannel:
The letter is a last resource guys, if he's about to die the info doesn't die with him

You mean white denden.
The white one prevents them being overheard (seen when Dragon calls Iva),
the black is the one that eavesdrops on other dendens (seen when Tashigi listens in on a call to Crocodile)

Does anyone think that Roci might act as if Law betrayed him in front of Doffy so that Law has a chance of survival? Surely the next chapter will be the last of the flashback…
Doflamingo's ship's crest is a flamingo with sunglasses? Awesome! Never noticed that before
It's been out there since 763, I believe. But it is awesome, I agree.
Next chapter, I want to see Law meets a certain Mr.X.
Liar! You just want to see a dinausaur.
This might be too obvious, but I don't think it's been touched on.
One thing that always confused me was Doffy's closeness with his 'family.' I mean, let's face it, the guy is a really horrible person - it was strange to see him actually care for his subordinates, rather than simply using them as pawns (or, better yet, puppets) just to further his own agenda. Yet time and time again we see him actually show affection for his crew.
This Chapter, coupled with the rest of his backstory, really makes sense of this. When his parents left the CD, he essentially lost an entire world - he lost a way of life and he lost people that were like him. He considered his father to have betrayed him, and probably thought of his mother in the same way. She died, and he killed him. All he had left of his family that had not betrayed him was Rocinante. He filled this gap with his crew - finding people who would never betray him, finding people to be his family. Then, the last person of his blood family stabs him in the back - he announces that his crew is his only family. They are loyal, and they stand by him, where everyone else is just a traitor in his eyes. Even after Law disappears with Rocinante, and then clearly disappears to pursue his own agenda later, he reserves the heart seat for him, hoping he will come back.
I still think he is a horrible person, but we are beginning to see who that horrible person is: Doffy is a scared little kid, afraid that those he cares about will leave him or betray him. Those who stick around are of immense importance to him, because he knows what it is like to lose the people he cares about (even if it is just through his own warped perspective - he may have driven them away with his madness, but to him it was still a betrayal by and loss of his family).
Edit: Actually, the Rocinante/Law parallel is even more crucial. Rosinante just up and disappeared for years, and one day came back and was awarded the heart seat. He then betrayed Doffy, and Doffy (presumably) kills him for it. Then when Law up and vanishes, Doffy reserves the heart seat for him, hoping he will come back and become the next Corazon, but maybe a loyal one. That isn't to say that he doesn't want Law back for selfish reasons as well, but ultimately that strikes me as a very hopeful move; he really hopes he can have his brother back again, but have it work this time.
Originally, when Doffy said he had been through hell, I was like "pffffff," but now it holds a bit more water: He has lost a lot of people he cares deeply for, and in his eyes it has always been because they betray him - so many people he (probably) loved stabbed him right in the back (as far as he is concerned).
Something like that.
Edit 2: Doflamingo stressing that he is a "grown man" and doesn't have time to play childish games (with Law and Luffy, I believe), could be considered a hint that really Doflamingo has not let go of being a scared little kid. Iunno.
@Lao:

I get the feeling Oda loves the Doflamingo Pirate Crew as much as we do, and thus just wants to draw them as often as he can

No he didn't . One of the main reasons why Doffy killed his father was because of his mother dying as a result of his father's decisions to live with humans and abandon his "heavenly" life .
@Doffy.:

Fair enough. In that case, though, she was the only exception - every other "family" member that is gone betrayed him, in his eyes. Exceptions are significant, but one exception I don't think compromises his behavior/psychology. Rather, it serves as a kind of accent - it shows what kind of things can be destroyed by betrayal, and teaches that betrayal cannot be tolerated.
So as everybody will be killed on Minion during next chapter or two we will have to see that Dorry persona that we didnt yet seen.

I think I might have missed on this, where can I find it? Or what does it say?
I'm not really feeling Roci's impending death. Seeing Roci being beaten up in front of Law was sad but not enough to evoke a stronger emotion.
Vergo really deserve the beating he got from Law. While he had every reason to beat up Roci, he does have any for brutally beating up a dying and sick kid. I'm pretty sure he would report in to Sengoku that he found a mole in the marine and would get credits for it. It's totally internal affair.
It was kinda cute yet tragic seeing Law trying to heal Roci with the op op no mi. Honestly, I though that Law would at least know how to stop the bleeding with his medical knowledge.
After Rocinante's betrayal, Doflamingo really should have seen Law's betrayal coming.
Law's is pretty much Roci's replacement. A little brother you haven't seen for years, reappears and have the heart seat reserved for them. Was Doflamingo hoping Law wouldn't turn out like his brother? He seem to be projecting his "affection" for Roci on Law.
In a way, Doflamingo is right that his crew who he bonded with is his family. Despite both Doffy and Roci being biologically related, they are strangers. Roci disappear for 14 years and when he shows up again, made no attempt to reconnect with his brother. They don't even know each other.
Oda really seem to be reaffirming the point that family doesn't necessary have to be blood related but can come from the bond you have with other. Ace, Luffy, Sabo and Dadan.Nami, Nojiko and Bellemere. Chopper, Kureha and Hiliukuk. Franky and Tom. Sanji and Zeff.
So as everybody will be killed on Minion during next chapter or two we will have to see that Dorry persona that we didnt yet seen.

Or X Drake was the one to save Law and how can you argue against fact, for gods sake.
Bellamy will have his own flashback believe or not
I think Bellemy will look up to Luffy after Doffy got defeated and be an Allies for the later latter.
Bellamy will appear in the flashback. Just a tiny panel of him declaring he admires Doffy and will follow him wherever he goes.
A couple of panels at best. I think Bellamy's story is more or less closed at this rate.
How is that story closed when it just opened?
I think I might have missed on this, where can I find it? Or what does it say?
I'm pretty sure he's misunderstanding something, because I have no idea what he's talking about.
Dorry is a valid nickname for Drake (spelt Doreiku in Japanese), same pattern as Doffy for Doflamingo.
Drake's family name "X" is spelt in Japanese as Diez every time it comes up in the manga, exactly the same as Diez Barrels.
(roman numeral X = ten = diez in Spanish)
He probably mixed these two factors up?
It seems like this chapter has made Vergo super hated. And I get that. But, on the other hand, maybe he isn't AS horrible as everyone is making him out to be. Most people have taken a liking to Corazon, and to us he just got the spit kicked out of him for trying to save a little kid and also stop his insane brother.
But from Vergo's perspective, I would thrash Rocinante too. Imagine if Luffy found out that Zoro, during his entire tenure on the crew, was actually a marine spy feeding information that would jeopardize everyone on the crew as well as Luffy's dream. He would probably destroy Zoro (or at least try to, at least at first - he would put a good hurting on him).
Rocinante betrayed the family. That's a pretty cut and dry reason for an execution. Doflamingo probably doesn't even think that he is evil - he gave his whole speech about good basically being whatever the strong say it is; he is not immoral, but rather amoral. If you do not think there is a right or wrong beyond mere convention, then what Rocinante did - regardless of his reasons - is an unacceptable betrayal.
While I'm not stoked on Vergo, and think Doffy is a dirtbag, I think it is entirely reasonable to be doing to Rocinante what Vergo and Doffy are doing.

Yeah, there's nothing horrible about covering up child kidnappings to help a crazy scientist or beating down all those subordinates who looked up to him.
Also, you don't know Luffy. He could beat up Zoro, but would still consider his friend. After all, remember when Nami betrayed the crew? Or Robin? Luffy never gave up on them, even when they insisted. He was also ready to forgive Usopp even after their fight (and Usopp could at least fight back).

KC 2.0: Or taking over a country and killing innocent people just because you want to be looked as a "hero"
It's entirely reasonable from Vergo's perspective to kidnap and experiment on kids just to turn them into living weapons.
Because… I dunno, those kids deserved it, I guess.
