Just watched the first episode of S2. Apparently, the art style has changed slightly (which I welcome), but I still can't get over the 'puppy eyes' look on Regan lol.
Hopefully there will be more action and dungeon raiding compared to S1 :D

That is good to hear :D
A hero that sets on a journey to solve financial problem of his country is not something you'd hear often lol. Hopefully they'll put more effort in animating the battle sequence. -
Is that girl in the opening the one from the Tea Party that Shiroe always remember?

Yeah, that's Kanami.

I hope they do justice to the raid, it was straight-up MMO raiding as we all know it in the novel, really brought out the feel of the author knowing what he's talking about.
I was a main tank for my raid team in WoW back in the days, made me giggle all the way through book 7. -

I was a main tank for my raid team in WoW back in the days, made me giggle all the way through book 7.I know the feels. Raid leaded as a shaman starting in vanilla. The good ole days, and I love anything that brings back that nostalgia factor.

Just watched the episode 2. Tetora is the star of this episode, or rather, Idol. Well, she's supposed to be that annoying but I don't mind her that much. Her interactions with Naotsugu & Regan were amusing to watch. Not to mention Demiclass' failed
attempt to intimidate Shiroe, who in response, trolls him to no end. Can't wait for the next episode :)Also, NaotsuguxMaryelle FTW.
-
I finally got around to seeing episode 2. I miss raiding so much now. I'm diggin William lol.
-
Watching Log Horizon brings back some good memories of raiding in WoW, how I miss those days!
I see I'm not the only one at least!
-
If only there was a non time consuming way to experience raiding with 40 people. Man I would be totally up for that.
Episode 3 gave major nostalgia that said well it also wasn't that spectacular but whatevs. -
I feel like the story is suffering under the execution. It's still got the interesting ideas, but the meh animation and directing is really getting to me. For some reason it's a lot more noticible in the new season. Also, I really don't like Tetra, or whatever her name is.
Feels kinda like the One Piece anime. It has good material to work with, but in the end makes it worse due to poor execution in many aspects? At least it feels like the execution is holding it back, I haven't really read the LNs.
-
I really enjoyed the raiding, even though I haven't properly played an MMO in my life (I moved around a character in my relative's WoW once,I guess?), much less gone on a raid. Really got the feeling of effort, frustration and fullfillment across.
Rudy's english cracks me the hell up.

I'll let you know the raid depiction was spot on. Most EQ-clone games (including WoW) have identical system.

What a great episode this was, really brought me back to my old raiding days in WoW.
-
Just got caught up ^_^
Man, this show makes MMOs look like the coolest pastime on the planet.
I actually commented "Aww.. I've never been in a coordinated party before.." -
I thought Demiquiz was going to do something stupid in this episode, lol.

This is just a prediction, but he's prolly gonna do something stupid eventually but I'm pretty confident that Shiroe will see it coming a mile away

Fixed it for you.

Now I feel like getting into WoW, I never got the chance of raiding before.

Is this season going to be 12 or 24 episodes? Also do you think it'll cover volume 8?

25 episodes.

Didn't the intro say something in regards to Shiroe failing or underestimating everything or something? Or am I just crazy and thinking of something else.
-
The last time I did raid was back at Emil Chronicle Online. It was rather unfair for melee class due to insane level penalty (greatly reduced acc and evasion) so the only classes (with specific build as well) that can endure and do the damage to the bosses are very limited. It was.. yeah, not the best example of raid, lol.

Yes, it was in the end of the first episode. I think it's where he finally experiences his first

Isn't it always?

This is so much better than Sword Art Online(wich I dropped because it was just a love sim).
I dont understand why(or maybe I do) this doesn't have even half the popularity it should have atleast in the online forums community, I'm sure its doing well in Japan or it wouldn't have gotten a second series.
I'm loving this new arc.

 It is, but out of all MMOs I've tried (which aren't many), it was the worst treatment melee classes I've seen. There was no way a melee DPS could inflict significant damage, except for bizarrely built Tanky Assassins that spew AoE poison with very limited poison vials.
Magic classes had it easy since they could deal good amount of damage and would never miss, while Ranged DPS had mandatory self-buff called "Absolute Attack" that could bypass level penalty. Defense classes suffered the same fate, since Sorcerer/Wizard could tank better and their "mini me" summon has ridiculous amount of aggro not even a tank can override it easily with their provoke skill.
But I heard that in later updates, the developers made significant improvement to make melee DPS more useful (OP, even), but not before giving the international servers middle finger salute, cut their lifelines and let them die one by one.

I felt the same about Sword Art. Log Horizon I like because it beought stuff like mentally adjusting to not dying and food and boundaries and the npcs. Also I actually like the bit of romance Log Horizon has. So far only the Ninja seems mopey about unrequited love stuff. And that's more on her being not being upfront.

It actually has a decent following on /a/ 4chan, which usually shits on shows like this.
Mamare, the author of the novels, paid a visit to 4chan on two occasions, answering questions.
He's also a huge video game nerd, and very genre-savvy with knowledge of how MMOs work, so he has this "one of us" charm that fans like.I do wish this franchise sold more though, it pales in comparison to massively popoular SAO and Mahouka.
SAO is mediocre, and the latter… well... let's just say I think very lowly of it. -
Log Horizon would have done better if Kanami was the lead girl. Akatsuki is cute enough as a mascot character but she has a huge inferiority complex, a roleplay fetish, and acts half her age. Minori is 14 (?). Japan likes its lolis comparatively but I imagine most people there won't find them very appealing. If they were side love interests it'd be one thing and would boost popularity but on their own I don't think they're charismatic enough.
The whole series has low-key characters for the most part and the only place where it goes over the top is politics and you can't expect the average anime viewer to be interested in politics. Those who are interested in politics won't find the politics compelling.
-

Why would think lowly of the wonderful and perfect and amazing onii-sama? Are some kind of a monster?!
-
Let us not speak of that god-awful show anymore than we should, I beg of you! The sound of "onii-sama" still haunts me.
-
Does Akatsuki get better? As a character? This episode was super annoying to watch because of her. I know that she has to watch the Princess and stuff, but if she's spending all that extra time lurking and moping can't she just get a small group and do dungeons to level? Or was Raiding the only way to level after a certain level?
-
^She wants a raid level gear, which isn't lying around in low level dungeons.
And yes, you have to kill monsters within five level of yourself to gain exp as well. -
Ok nothing against people that enjoyed this but 0 raiding progress = frustration.
-

True, but plot on Akatsuki side is actually setting up a raid too.
Have you ever seen that video of Doom Lord Kazzak in Stormwind?
That's basically the plot. -
Okay that makes sense. I remember the frustration of being stuck of having that crawl between certain levels when I wasn't raiding. But her romance drama added on top makes her incredibly whiny lol.
-
Finally we're going to see the harem king in action.. next week! Mopey Akatsuki is mopey, but I hope it will end in next episode. Is it just my imagination or Lenessia's face keeps changing in each scene? Lol.

Watching Log Horizon really makes me want to raid or play MMO's once again, however!

Oh shit, so who is that big guy with the sword? He able to kill people without them respawning?
-

I think it's the guy who was cleaning Royal Guard's armor in episode one and also the same guy who bought the Phantasmal-class sword Akatsuki was aiming for.
It's kind of awkward to see blood at this point when we've gotten used to seeing players, landers and monsters burst into bubbles when they die, as it was actually part of censorship.
-
God Akatsuki is such an annoying character, no wonder she's losing to a 14 year old girl.

! I remember reading something about a Royal Guard guy going berserk with a possessed sword on TV Tropes. What he said on the beginning/end of the last episode would make sense if he was royal guard because the Royal Guard have some animosity towards adventurers (They think adventurers only think of them as guard dogs or something). I thought Phantasmal-class stuff was only found in specific raids and couldn't be bought. Besides, you would have your name relayed to the whole server if you got one iirc.
I agree on your second point, I think Aohige said it was more graphic in the light novels when it came to killing monsters so blood here is weird. Maybe it's the sword's effect?
-

Ah, my bad. I kinda assumed that it was for some reason. I wonder if Phantasmal-class gears are tradeable at all or if they're bound upon achieving. If it's the latter, it'd suck to have our name relayed throughout the server for getting gear that doesn't support our class in the slightest, lol.

After all, the sword in question is said to require blood of its victim to grow stronger, not bubbles rofl. I guess omitting the blood here would have ruined the ominous atmosphere, so they had no choice but to keep it without making it too graphic.

Okay, this week's episode was really great character development. Yeah, last week was pretty solid, too, with a very intriguing cliffhanger, but here the real substance of the series showed through. The scene at the lake was great, and so much power of friendship flavoured as everything here was, it was well-written power of friendship. Akatsuki's gonna become stronger for herself now and not just be dependant on Shiroe, but also not just keep to herself, she's gonna do it together with her friends. I really like how inventive it is with the video game concepts. That was definitely there last season, but it's getting a lot clever with that.
-
Girl Power that is.
Akatsuki's side and Shiro's side were actually two different novel volumes running chronologically simultaneously.
Akiba side is the "Girls side" and the dungeon raid is the "Boys side".
Anime decided to parallel the two volumes together. You should see that afterlife scene again later on, from Shiroe side POV.
He'll explain more about that scene at that point. -
The straircase scene was more interesting to me. I also liked the contrast of the real world design to the game. From what I gathered she was just looking for a place to belong/a home. It's like Mikasa. Now that I think about it, they are essentially the same archtype, but it's the thing that makes both characters not just token "badass" girls. Both even get disliked for the same reasons. They're attached to a guy. Both slowly grow more "independant" or better said "dependant on other people". Yeah, this ep. did good for Akatsuki.
