okay, okay. Noqanky, Wagomu, Purple, Ouroburos…..you guys make some compelling points. Especially these:
@Purple:
I think the problem can be pinpointed down into a few things:
First, the lack of personalization to each character that breathes life into those modes, such as the individualized target breaking Wagomu mentioned
Second, linking achievements in these modes to challenges even though they're mind numbingly inane, and in some cases hiding custom moves and equipment behind certain achievements
Third, having a trophy shop but no custom move shop
Fourth, the roster is just way too big now for anyone to go through and complete the challenges without getting incredibly discouraged from the lack of challenge or just terrible stage selection for the particular challenge (like All Star mode's favoritism of scrolling maps)
But now I seriously have to ponder a few things. What does it mean, for a Smash fan like me, that I've technically spent more time in the single player modes (~12 hours) than in regular Smash (~2 hours). Am I just a whore for collecting trophies and what have you? Do I seriously want to validate myself after giving up on Brawl's challenges? What exactly is it?
Maybe it's because "Smash" is a mode that's always been there? Like how Smash Run/new Classic/Target Blast are technically new stuff, and I still haven't gotten my fill of them yet? Dunno. The game is doing a great job at keeping my attention, something I figured it would happen, but glad to see it come to pass. Now granted, focusing entirely on the the single player wouldn't be so good, as well, the "meat" of it all is still plain ol' Smash.
Let's just put somethings in perspective. Smash 4 is the last game since…....uhh....Super Mario World/Advance 2 where I've gotten/plan to get both the handheld version and the console version, and technically one where I'm gonna get it twice.
I suppose I just don't want to be someone who gets all pumped for the 3DS version, then completely ignores it for when the Wii U version hits, either because the latter is just that more impressive to look at and has more content (HD graphics) and/or the reality of what the former doesn't have hits all the more harder.
But considering I'm basicially this:
@fana:
I'm fine with the single player content for this game. Sure, it could always be better but it's good enough for me. I love the customizations and Smash Run.
My only complaints about this game (just nitpickings) that IMO could be fixed with a future patch/DLC :
- Target Blast could be improved a lot if it was more like Fragger with multiple levels.
- Smash Run not being playable online.
- Smash Run not having a side mode where you could freely change a lot of the settings (time/stipulations/events/drops).
- Not being able to set the frequency of the items. I would love making matches with a "Masterball only" set on "High" to relive one of the event match on Melee.
Maybe that's just a silly fear. But as a final point: I'm not trying to be an apologist and overlook the flaws the game has, but the very valid complaints just aren't irking me too much.
