Am I the only one here questioning Law immortality?? After the round 1 vs fuji and dofla, three bullets in the chest lately perforated by doffy strings, law is still moving??, It's a little bit exaggerated no?? Anyway I found the chapter a little bit weird and rushed, dofla back-story is Ok but i feel it could've been differently introduced. I also don't feel like the fight is well managed, I mean it was really promising but from what I saw it's a little too weak for a new world Villain when I compare it with previous boss fights, it's too early I know but still, and Trebol was glued to the ground? Cmon we saw how fast he could be, why wasn't he able to dodge law's attack? Hopefully he'll fell to Robin's group, Gladius seemed desperately outnumbered

Why is Oda contradicting here? First he gets kicked out of the World Noble yet he manage to use the CP0 and abuse his rank? How did that happen?
-
No way. If anything he'll run into Team 2 first and they head to Zo, or they're all already captured by Big Mom.
I seriously doubt they have been captured. In fact as a Pekoms and Tamago fan am deeply worried that sanji has beaten them both.
-
@joekido:

What rank? The Warlord rank?
He has connections with the WG thanks to the Warlord rank. Probably got CP0 to help him because of that.
-

This. Also worth noting is that the World Government has basically stated that they fear Doflamingo in the past. At this point he seems to have forced his way into the power and likely the World Government will give him whatever he wants because of it.
-
Hasn't he got something really important to do before he meets uo with the SH? I mean that was the reason why he declined the offer to join them back in FI.
This is all very correct , but there's some underlining factors you're either not aware of or have forgotten.
1. The SH's Team 2 are currently being chased by Big Mom's crew
2. Oda showed this scene of Jinbe finding out about the crew being on Dressrosa, TWICE
3. The time he learns of the alliance , Mera Mera tourney, Dofla's "resignation" etc. happened significantly earlier then whats currently taking place on Dressrosa
4. Where could he be by now?If he's heading toward Dressrosa , he's had to run into Team 2 by now, or then again maybe he just ignores that the crew is tangoing with DD, who he knows is an above average threat, but then again, that doesn't sound like Jinbe. This dude is taking the time to help out Sea Kittens.
The REAL reason Oda had him decline is strictly development purposes, Bounties being raised , one of the weak trio learning Haki etc. It's all happening pretty fast. Then again since Fuji seems smitten by Luffy, I'm skeptical if their Bounties will be raised , but I hope they will.
Luffy, Zoro, Robin , Franky and especially Ussop deserve raises after this.
-

I think it has more to do with his underworld connections. He's exactly the sort of guy who would be able to manipulate the WG how he wants. He got one of his top guys into a Vice Admiral spot for example.

He could also have contacts with the world nobles .

LOL, there's no way Oda is having Sanji off panel Yonko commanders, two at that when he was struggling with the likes of Vergo.
-

Yes that's true. My reasoning though is that this is the second time we've seen Jinbe viewing this news and now with a somewhat surprised reaction. He obviously has no idea what kind of danger they may be in and may not even feel he needs to go see them. Though this is one of the few times, if not the only time where a cover story has been so heavily crossed with what was happening in the main story at roughly the exact same moment. So I it seems like Oda is setting us up for something sooner rather than later.
I feel like it could go down several ways. 1 - Jinbe feels like Big Mom can wait just a little longer while he deals with the immediate issues of Luffy and the crew. Well potential issues in Jinbe's mind but he's smart, he knows no matter what Luffy has gotten into trouble. 2 - He goes onward to Big Mom anyway and just happens to pass between Dressrosa and Zou to aid the Straw Hat's against Big Mom's goons. 3 - Jinbe just writes it off for now and goes to Big Mom with no interaction with the Straw Hat's until Dressrosa's adventure is done with.

Jinbe still has to help the little kitty fish and solve the missing village mystery before doing anything.
-
So, lots of translation issues today :wassat: (sorry if someone asked this before). According to MP, DD's father left leaving the four of them behind. According to MS's he didn't leave them, but brought them along, and together they were four. I think I might figure it out if I could look at the Japanese original, but don't know where to find it (darn!)… There are others: "You should be maintaining your position" vs "Think of your position"; "I hope you have good luck" vs "But you are just luckier". King Riku's thoughts and actual words are reversed in one translation, when he says he's started believing in Luffy... are those his words or his thoughts??? Even Luffy's reaction do Doffy's words is misleading: "Huh!!?" vs "Ehh!!?" The last one sounds like he's really surprised... not so with the first one. How I miss CCC!!!!!
-
Oda seems to know how much we enjoy seeing Law getting beaten up, yep.
-
Jinbe still has to help the little kitty fish and solve the missing village mystery before doing anything.
For all we know he's already done it.
-
I mean it was really promising but from what I saw it's a little too weak for a new world Villain when I compare it with previous boss fights, it's too early I know but still,
But you see, it may be hard to believe but Doflamingo is supposed to be the villain here not Luffy.

LOL, there's no way Oda is having Sanji off panel Yonko commanders, two at that when he was struggling with the likes of Vergo.
Are they commanders though?
From what we've seen of them (acting as candy pickup boys and being terrified of BM over a den den mushi) I don't get the impression that Pekoms and Tamago are among the elite commanders of BM's crew.
Also, basing Sanji's relative strength on a two blow clash against a plot armored enemy is just silly.
-
@The:
To be honest, Doflamingo is, in my opinion, the first true evil antagonist in One Piece. I mean… I can't see any redeeming qualities about him, he was even an ass when 8 years old. lol
I'd say Doffy is the first true evil mastermind and serious threat that had no redeeming qualities.
There is an earlier antagonist that had no redeeming qualities, though he was so outmatched by Luffy no one pays him any attention now even when Oda has shown that he's still active by showing the WG recognizes him and has given him a new Kingdom … and the pic just screams 'evil kingdom'= Wapol.I think we should wait for full flashback before stating "Dofla is just grown up Stelly, I hate him now, DISSAPOINTMENT".
No matter what sort -if any- 'full flashback' is given, Doffy will never be a "just a grown up Stelly". Anyone who thinks that have more in common with Stelly than Doffy does = idiocy.
As a child he may have been just as …deluded *(can't think of another work to describe the child's upbringing in that system) as Stelly, but grown up Doffy is a mastermind, he is smart and he knows to have patience to make his plans come to fruitarian over years.
I do not see Stelly ever gaining those qualities, so nope I am one person will never, ever think Doffy is a 'grown up Stelly"."Koala beats up Sabo, violence on men, she is just like Nami, I hate her now DISSAPOINTMENT". Don't. Just don't.
W_T_F…. people are actually saying that?! Well they are wrong. This situation, esp that one panel, (mentions when Sabo get others angry, the ones they get angry at are Hack and herself)
[hide] [/hide]
shows that its not 'women beat up men violence" but a friend annoyed because when her friend does something idiotic (in their opnion, going against the mission -secrecy) then its his friends that suffer.
So its less like "Nami beating men up" and more like "Usopp beating Luffy up" moments. ] -
Well I could see Jinbe coming as well… But well... Dunno if I would like it taking away the moment of the others after a year of disappearance.
And I dunno if Jinbe wouldn't be fucked up by Big Mom if she betrays her NOW... His crew would be in danger as well... not even speaking about Fishmen Island
-
Doffy's goal is so crazy and/or childish. Yet he ends the chapter with "I'm a grown man, I don't have time to play" LoL
He is getting mad, I love it. -
Jinbe still has to help the little kitty fish and solve the missing village mystery before doing anything.
Well yeah, that goes without saying.
-
It doesn't make sense that he would despise the Celestial Dragons when he's owning slave auction houses aimed for nobles, taking over and becoming king of lands that once belonged to his family and using CP0 to help him out with his schemes.
Stuff that you would expect from a World Noble.
All this was to fund his smile operation
-
Doffy is still a big baby lol greedy evil little baby…not much emotion in it. Hopefully the rest of the flashbacks go a bit deeper. This chapter seemed kind of forced :\
-
I'm glad for Sabo and Fuji, there was no point in having a fight til the end of the arc.
And with this scenario my theory about Law sacrificing for Luffy has good chances to happen. -
Man, this chapter is interesting to me. We're getting a tiny bit closer to a flashback of Dolflamingo and to a extant Law's own past.
Also, I enjoyed seeing Koala being a little bit hot headed and beating Sabo up in a way that someone else mentioned isn't Nami like, but Ussop like. I kinda imagine her as being passionate ,but not entirely angry. I also enjoyed the Ussop, King Riku and Fujitora moment. I agree that Dressrosa is going to be in termoil at the moment and after the arc is done for.
Just because the truth has been revealed doesn't mean instant recovery . For ten years the citizens have believed a lie. -
No way. If anything he'll run into Team 2 first and they head to Zo, or they're all already captured by Big Mom.
Was joking. I expect him to follow through on the mysterious sea monster than stumble onto Sunny running away from BM pirates.
Dressorsa is overcrowded.
-
All this was to fund his smile operation
He has a bunch of other businesses for that. And there were no SMILEs when he took over Dressrosa.
He had a slave auction house because he wanted to have one.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---

Tamago is also plot-armored thanks to having no bounty and ability revealed.
-
The fact that the people just released Usopp and changed their minds was kinda rushed and so anti-climatic.
-
You know, on the second thought, I liked this chapter a lot more when I did not known what people were saying.
Doffy's motivation is weak, and Fujitora is being non-sensical… again. I don't get it.
-
Tamago is also plot-armored thanks to having no bounty and ability revealed.
Yeah, but his ability might well be revealed when we finally see what's happening on the coast of Dressrosa.
I'm just assuming he's a egg man.
Not in the same way as Dagama though.
-
Man, back in Punk Hazard and at the beginning of Dressrosa, I remember a ton of people talking about how OP Law's fruit was, and wondering how anyone could ever fight him. And now, here he is, getting penetrated like a porn star.
Looking forward to the rest of Dofla's flashback, too. I like what we're learning so far; he's a complete monster who practically embodies the attitudes of the Celestial Dragons. Further, it looks like he probably killed his father not for because of some justified motive, but out of anger over the loss of status (I expect the further details of the death of his mother to reinforce this, making it harken back to Doflamingo calling Law's revenge "petty" and revealing irony in that statement). And of course, he perceives having lost his wealth and status at a young age as a tragedy and hardship far beyond those anyone else has experienced… when, of course, we've seen backgrounds of many characters which were far worse than anything it's been suggested Doflamingo went through.
-
I actually liked that Doflamingo is just an asshole and not some redeemable guy. That would be a cop out to me, and very inconsistent with everything we know about him. This flashback was perfect, even though the exposition was a little sloppily placed.
-
haven't read the posts yet so im gonna drop some unbiased opinions first.
trebol is disappointing me, seems like he'll get handled easily without doflamingo, i really hope not.
i cant believe luffy stood there and let all this happen. unlike last week, doflamingo really got caught by surprise but this week? doflamingo was on the ground, able to get up, kick away law's sword, bring down spikes of strings then make his way over back to luffy, kick him, tie him up, control bellamy and slash luffy.
before DD was able to make his way back over, luffy should have assisted law, this is either bad hindsight on oda's part or luffy. DD is fast but for all this to happen and luffy do nothing? disappointing.kinda expected fujitora to eventually side with luffy but what will he do from now on? just sit there waiting? and sabo? gonna sit there arguing with koala while your brother get the snot beat out of him? where's the sense of urgency man?
this brings me to doflamingo, im ok with his back story, arrogant yes but im ok with it. it matches him i suppose but i cant help but feel its shallow to what seems to be a very deep character. i may be wrong but we'll see.
overall, cool chapter, can't wait for next week.

Enel was pretty evil, as was Krieg.
-
I wonder if little Doula beheaded his father with a kick like he tried with Kyros.
-
I still don't understand kun and San staff I mean you talk with someone higher than you you address him or her by San or senpai but now Koala does the opposite , I mean sabo is the second in commend and still treat like kun and whatsoever . What does it mean anyone please give me an answer
Well, yeah but it's also like san = mr and kun like… changing Tom to Tommy. They are just close enough to talk each other like that.
-
Details aside it's a pretty standard i want my birthright deal.
My personal beef is that said Birthright has always been presented by scenes of comically disgusting characters being spoiled to a degree of absolute patheticness. Doflamingo was pining for the life of a bunch of man-babies; This is Doflamingos birthright in all its glory:

The World Nobles are the only people who seemingly can do anything they want. Brings back that idea Luffy has about what it means to be Pirate King.

Doflamingo being denied that^ is what prompted him to become the supervillain we see today. That's just the comical, "regular" nobility we've only seen so far. There could be tenryuubito that could be legitimately dangerous, and not just because they have huge amounts of money and political ties.
-
The Celestial Dragons' political influence alone is dangerous. Doflamingo with his underworld connections and a proper Celestial Dragon's clout? He'd be fully untouchable.
Also we should've seen this coming when Doflamingo took control of Dressrosa under the justification of "MY FAMILY OWNED THIS ONCE"
-
Damn you Oda, you are making me symphatise with Doflamingo.
-
LOL, there's no way Oda is having Sanji off panel Yonko commanders, two at that when he was struggling with the likes of Vergo.
While I see your point, I just can't see Sanji bening captured it would make him look weak. I think Sanji will use his smarts and disable their ship along the SH to get away.
-
Man, what exactly in this manga made people think that he despised the noble lifestyle?
Well, I can only speak for myself, but this is how I saw it:
Doflamingo declares that he's a former World Noble, and in his flashback we learn that he attacks their tribute ships. But he also declares that the WG "doesn't know what to do with him Fufufufufu!", and still has Noble Perks in the form of Cp0.
To me, it seemed like Doflamingo was getting the "best of both worlds"; he ditched the shallow decadency of Marijois for a wild pirate life, but retained noble priveleges. Basically Doflamingo did what he pleased, and he always seemed so happy with his life. Also, there was this:

Doflamingo being denied that^ is what prompted him to become the supervillain we see today. The problem I've had with it, and I agree with your point, is that… well, while Doffy was an evil, spoiled brat, I can't say that I support his father who, apparently, deliberatly thrown his family of four into poverty because he was... curious? Soulsearching? There is not really a good motivation for that.
-
Time for crazy theory time! I think that Fujitora's justice is not Blind Justice, but Gambling Justice.
Let's look at Aokiji and Akainu, who are Lazy and Absolute Justice respectively. When we first met Aokiji, he just got up from a nap, which is a sign of laziness. He also cared very little overall about fighting Luffy, and just left him instead of finishing him off. Also, instead of stopping Luffy himself, he sat back and just let Garp do it. This gives an overall feel of a lazy person. The first time we saw Akainu was in Robin's flashback, when he ordered the ship with the evacuees to be shot down, because he didn't want to risk one person escaping that was guilty. We see him execute a Marine on site because he's an insect on a battlefield of giants, and the Marine is to scared to fight. Akainu goes straight for the kill, and even goes after Black Beard himself. We get an idea that this man deals in absolutes, and that's why his motto is absolute justice.
What's the first thing we see Fujitora doing? He's gambling with crooks. A few chapters ago we see him talking to Sabo about not going in unless he has all his dice. This chapter we see him betting on the Straw Hats to take care of things, and possibly he's betting on the people of Dressrosa to help him after this to abolish the Shikibukai system. There has been a number of gambling themes, and he's going to let chance decide who wins, which shows who is good and who is bad. If he was blind justice, he would distribute justice despite any context. This means he would arrest Viola, even though it was really her only choice, and would arrest Doflamingo at the same time as Straw Hat and Law, because he would do that despite the circumstances.
All the above makes me think he will be gambling justice, and it sounds cooler to me overall.

While it is true that Doffy had the "best of both worlds" I think he had to build that back up to be able to reap noble benefits while still being a pirate. At the same time, despite being in that great position, he can still have a very real sting of being denied his birthright, because those are intense feelings he had as a child. Even though he's in a great position now, with everything he wants, that initial sting his dad put him through can still be very real. So for me it makes perfect sense for him to feel this way, to me Doffy seems like a real self made man, the kind of guy who had to build himself back up from greatness from basically nothing. That's what made him so appealing to me, and this falls in line with that.
The way I see it, Doffy definitely went through a number of stages growing up, he didn't start out always wanting to be a pirate or with his current personality, at least from what I figure.
So he grows up pampered as a noble, but since his father's a down to earth guy I think he had a childhood that was separate from the kind of life lived by Saint Charloss and etc, but still very affluent. I'm sure Doffy's father wouldn't go so far as to put on a mask to prevent his family from breathing the same air as the commoners, for instance. I'm sure they just enjoyed the privileges of being a noble like having slaves and a huge house. This makes sense too since Kid Doffy would focus on the actual perks of nobility which is why it would sting so bad for him when those were taken away. We can disconnect his birthright with the other nobles since he didn't exactly live like they did, he just lived as well as they did.
Then his dad makes all 4 of them trade everything away to live in basically squalor, in order to live like normal humans. His mom dies from shitty conditions, he gets pissed with what he's done to them, his mom, and not having what they had before. So he kills him, goes back to Marijoa expecting a warm welcome, but they still don't let him back in.
This is the point I think Doffy's character becomes what we know of him as today. That picture you posted above of him being happy and smoking, I think that represents a point in time after Doffy killed his father and learned that he was unable to go back to Marijoa. Doffy's hopes of returning to the life he loved (as a child, mind you, so his understanding of that life is already kind of biased and skewed) are dashed. So he "snaps", and realizes he's going to destroy everything those nobles stand for.
That's when he decides (probably with his brother) to go and become a great pirate, and from then on everything he does as he's pleased and is happy with everything. This backstory is a little jarring for Doffy based on the understanding that readers have built about his character, but at the same time it also gives more depth to his character. No one can be born like Doffy already happy and pleased with everything, having no regrets (except maybe Luffy). In this way we see what it took for Doffy to become the man we know him as today.
Doffy had always been pushed around, following the whims of others. Even though the intentions were good, he was pushed by his dad out of the life he loved and lost his mom. Then he tried to back, but the other nobles wouldn't accept him. So that's when he realizes he has to start doing what he wants instead of what others want for him and becomes a pirate and the it goes from there.

I really really honestly do not get wth fujiora is doing. It seems like he's just doing random crap on the island with no regard for consistency whatsoever.
-
We don't really know why Doflamingo killed his father when he did. While he hated his father for throwing them into poverty and blamed him for his mother's death, it sounded more like he killed him as an attempt to get back into the Tenryuubito. My guess is that he needed help from the World Government for something, maybe a sick friend or family member, and tried to get them to re-admit him, but they still denied him aid. It's a better justification for hating them so much than just wanting luxury, and it ties in to his devotion to his crew.
-

Nope. He wanted back in to his cushy life in his heaven. He was robbed of that by his father and by the Nobels, and he out for revenge against them.

That is literaly the weakest point of otherwise good character that he is. At moments, he is dowright nonsensical.

He kinda looks like he's trying to emulate the lifestyle he once had.
