Thanks Professor Pochi and Professor Ubiq! Man, I really need to study hard for the midterm.
But really? A thousand years? Doesn't that seem kind of short now in hindsight?

There's also an argument over whether it's literally or figurative a thousand years.
It's sometimes called Dispensation Millenialism as well. It's not an organized denomination either so much as it's a belief system held by a lot of American evangelicals.
Millenialists believe that there will be a thousand year period where Jesus rules the Earth directly; there are two major schools of thought on this. Some (premillenialists) say that it'll happen before the Apocalypse and others (postmillenialists) say after.
Dispensationalists believe that God interacts with humanity in phases or dispensations (including the period of Jesus' Earthly reign mentioned previously; Dispenationalism started as an offshoot of PreMillenialism), that Israel as a nation and a Church are distinctive entities, and that the Second Coming of Jesus will result in the souls of the faithful going straight to Heaven in The Rapture. Then there will be a seven year period of darkness and chaos for everybody else where the Antichrist rules the world. Then Jesus shows back up, kicks him in the crotch, and then it's a thousand years of peace and harmony. Well, except for everybody that wasn't raptured seven years earlier since those people are now in Hell.
So, according to Millenial Dispenationalists, Israel as a political entity needs to exist for the Rapture to occur (where politics are concerned, this means that the sole objective of the United States is to guarantee that continued existence), but Jews aren't really God's chosen people so they're basically damned along everybody else that isn't saved. They're also pretty much of the opinion that the Rapture is right on the verge of happening at any given moment.
. . . . . mmmm'kaaaaay then . . . .
Anyway, this is a bit more of a local thing for me so I don't know how much coverage it's gotten around, but I think it's a pretty good read (along with the articles linked in the timeline) concerning employee loyalty because this is a pretty big deal in how it all unfolded
Every generation has people saying the rapture is going to happen…any moment now.

It's a shame, I hadn't even heard of this until now.
Even the supervisors walked off and that surely helped. When the income gap is becoming so bad that even the supervisory staff and management level are feeling cheated, that's bad. It's not just that though of course. They also did it for their worse off employees.

It was a big thing for supervisors because only a week or so after Arthur T. was kicked out, layoffs were already being started whereas under his leadership, the company doesn't max out on margins but keeps the employee and customer satisfaction pretty high for strong loyalty, so pretty much every one of the employees saw that as a reeaeaaaally bad sign and started the protests that pretty much crippled the entire chain

Ah yes, Market Basket. Such a crazy thing, I'm surprised it went on for so long. But I'm glad everything ended so well, now we can get back to, well, shopping.
It is almost sure that Dilma will lose the elections this year, with the death of the candidate Eduardo Campos, the competition is between Dilma and Marina Silva (former vice president to Eduardo Campos).
Marina has a great chance of being elected, being evangelical and taking advantage of the death of her partner, she leads the polls. She has conservative thoughts on gay marriages, abortions, legalization of marijuana and legal age (a law is still in the voting process, if it is approved, the age of majority will be 16 years.)
Aécio Neves, who was second in the polls before the death of Eduardo Campos, is now in third place.
The communist parties are attacking Marina Silva, saying she is trying to fool the poor people, making arrangements with bankers. A bank sent letters to customers, the letter said that the election of Dilma is bad for the Brazilian economy.

So let me get this straight.
Did I get that right? That's… an unusually bright story. We hear so much of the opposite happening.
So let me get this straight.
- The grocery store had low prices, comparable to Walmart, but paid the workers at least 50% over the minimum wage, and benefits.
- Evil greedy cousin swayed the board to side with him, and fired the CEO who was pro-worker and pro-consumer since that standard cut into the company profits.
- The workers who loved their CEO's stance went on a strike to get him back as their boss.
- They prevailed
Did I get that right? That's… an unusually bright story. We hear so much of the opposite happening.
Aye. Wherever it is, it's pretty much the go-to grocery store for my fam if it's convenient. The CEO was pretty good at the whole employee and customer loyalty deal by creating an environment of strong customer satisfaction and employee loyalty, which ends up of course producing less than maximum margins. But hey, he could remember employee names, visited sick employees, remembered birthdays, etc, so the workforce was a big fan.
It's a bit of complicated history for the family but the cousin's point of view as he presents it that the CEO has been using company funds to buy lots to build new stores from real estate agents who are in-laws of the CEO or other purchases which the CEO had a stake in, and going further back there's been some feuding between the families of the brothers that really made the store what it was. Regardless of that, though, after ousting the CEO, they fucked up by immediately kicking out management loyal to the previous CEO at an associated golf club owned by the company which uh… isn't the best way to show support to your employees who only last year were protesting outside your offices when you were considering kicking out the CEO the first round.
Sooo workers started protesting. No problem. Just bring in some scabs so the business keeps running. Problem was that the management was also out on the streets protesting, so the scabs have no direction to work with. The business pretty much for the last two months was pretty much completely shut down. Simple! We'll just have other people buy out the company to provide solvency, meanwhile we'll also try to force the protester's hands by threatening that they'll lose their job in x days. But uh... nobody stuck around with an offer except the previous CEO. So, months pass since the start of the strike, and they end up having to negotiate an offer for 50.5% stake for $1.5 Billion because if they don't do something, the company's definitely gonna go under. And here we are.
It's a pretty bright story, yeah. Obviously the CEO's pretty happy about getting his job back, but the big win is definitely the mobilization of the work force and the management without any sort of unionization. It speaks a lot about the difference between the company's corporate culture and the usual culture here in America and the huge amount of personal investment the employees have while working there.
The media storm surrounding it didn't help the Greedy Cousin either.
In other news, foreign policy election time!

I love the opening paragraph:
"It's past Labor Day in a midterm election year, which means we've reached the point when chaired foreign policy professors at our finest universities are urgently summoned by governors and junior senators eyeing the presidency so they can answer all kinds of questions like "What is ISIS?" and "Where is Gaza?" and "Is it true the Soviet Union no longer exists?""
And don't get me wrong, while my state loves our Elizabeth Warren to bits, she is not ready to do anything but hold her senate seat. She does not have nearly enough experience to go higher.

And Joan Rivers unfortunately passed away today
I never even heard of Joan Rivers
^^When someone dies what's the point of saying, "I don't even know who that person was?" What's the point?
Look her up if you bothered enough to comment on it.

R.I.P Joan Rivers and my condolences to the family. She had a looong and famous career.
Wisconsin and Indiana's gay marriage bans are dead.

Time for me to get into public office I guess.
Also please stop deluding yourself that Elizabeth Warren would ever get elected outside the Northeast/West Coast. I mean that out of sympathy.
shrug It's just she's always being brought up in articles and other places as a contender or a candidate, if for nothing else than the Democrats are lacking people to push forward.
I think it would be awesome if she was President, but I am also content with her staying a Senator, as a lot can be accomplished from a life-long career in the Senate. Isn't that right, Ted(Kennedy)?
I guessing it's already out there but Wisconsin and Indiana's gay marriage bans were overturned.
Lousiana's was upheld though
Sad to hear the infertile, the elderly and stepparents aren't allowed to marry in Louisiana.

If that sort of legal bullshit amuses you then enjoy this, one of the judges in the Wisconsin/Indiana hearings just calmly shitting all over the anti-gay marriage lawyer.
Louisiana is such a tragic state. It would have been one of the best in the nation is the overall culture was based off the old New Orleans and Cajun stuff….but the Deep South culture basically took it over when they moved in from the east.
Damn those attorneys got trounced.

Wow, that was quite the shitting indeed.
those attorneys got massacred so bad you could've charged the Judge with Double-Homicide, lol
That Louisiana decision is just laughable since it's pretty much "Muh traditions and SLIPPERY SLOPE TO INCEST".

Thanks for the link, found another article (bout a week old) there hat had me undecided - (undecided in either laughing or shaking my head at the utter stupidity of GOP)
"Republicans Court Female Voters By Carefully Explaining That Women Are Wrong"
The ending quote sums it up nicely=
"In short, Republicans understand women plenty—it's women who don't understand themselves. Sounds like a promising strategy that will work with many, many sad single ladies that Republicans have invented in their brains. Next step: Finally granting imaginary women the right to vote."
Satsuki already posted that story days ago….and I distinctly remember snarking over it.

It's funny hearing someone sounding like Ben "boring teacher" Stein and obliterating the argument.
To the degenerate, morally-bankrupt party responsible:
FUCK YOU.
Apparently something big happened recently . . . .
Dunkin Donuts opened its' first store in California:

I will admit, the quality of DD's donuts has fallen over the years. But it's still my favorite go-to place that's cheaper than, say, Starbucks or Au Bon Pain.

This is weird. I feel like I have had them back home (California) before, but just can't put my finger on where.
What? Dunking Donuts was never opened in California? Well I never gone to DD in a long time so meh and I don't go to Starbucks unless someone takes me there. Too bad Au Bon Pain is not in Colorado
Er, there's always Panera? Although I forget what Panera's breakfast prices are.
Donut Wheel forever, other donuts never
Except maybe Krispy Kreme
Does Krispy Kreme make any other varieties of Donuts besides Glazed?
Krispy Kreme rose up like a tidal wave around like…2005 or whatever up here.
And now I think about it and realize they all vanished around here since.
I think they make powdered and cinnamon as well, unless I'm mixing them up with some other donut maker. That said, Dunkin Donuts' sour cream donut beats the one type of donut that Starbucks has, hands down.
EDIT: Oh whoops I was mixing them up with Entenmann's packaged donuts, although Krispy Kreme does have more than one type of donut flavor. I know there's this one local donut bakery somewhere in Northern Virginia from which my old high school got donuts that they would occasionally sell in the mornings for prom funding or something, and their old-fashioned donut is still the best I've EVER had.
@Mr.:

Wonder when they'll come out with a bacon and cheese donut.
I never saw a Krispy Kreme open anywhere near me, either in my residences in Boston/Boston-area or my college in Northampton. Hasn't the fad kinda died and a lot of the stores disappeared?
DD's has a nice selection of donuts, but another thing that people really love are Munchkins. Aka: donut holes. They save them, flavor them, and sell them by the box. Although I just saw they have a new thing where you can buy them in little cups of five.

I think I recall college in Woostah getting their Krispy Kremes for fundraisers from Rhode Island or Connecticut or somewhere, but yeah I don't really know of any Krispy Kreme locations in MA in general. And yeah, people love them Munchkins, but I'm not a big fan of them (or donuts in general)
The last Krispy Kreme I went to was in Dupont Circle. They had this neat glazing machine that they put your doughnuts through so you can watch them glaze. Do they have that at every Krispy Kreme? I don't know, but if I ever head that way again I'm definitely stopping by there for some classic glazed.
All this talk of Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts…
Y'all must be Hungry or something.
There used to be a Krispy Kreme shop nearby the Superstition Springs Mall. You could watch your donuts in the process of being glazed… then they just disappeared one day, never to be heard from again.
I definitely have don't any Krispy Kremes near my home, and the one or two times I had it, it was from a mall upstate.
But on the flip side, there are three Dunkin Donuts within a mile radius of my home.

Oh hey I think I know what store you're talking about! I would pass by that whenever I took the bus to my summer job last year. Alas, I never got to stop by there because my job was further downtown. I hope it's still open…
I see a Dunkin Donuts on every other street corner. They alternate with the Tim Hortons. Haven't seen a Krispy Kreme in forever, though.
Steven Hawking - God Particle could wipe out the Universe
What do you guys think?
Krispy Kreme basically underestimated how loyal people are to their inferior local doughnut chains and expanded too quickly.
Does Krispy Kreme make any other varieties of Donuts besides Glazed?
Yes.

Plus there's the Luther Burger, but the less said about that, the better.
Krispy Kreme is too pure fluff and sugar. Its okay as a treat, but you can eat like a full dozen without even realizing it.
Dunkin Donuts has much more substance to them.
