Winder Waker Ganondorf had a better boss fight, too.

@Monkey:
Twilight Princess has….uh....Ganondorf with cornrows and....uh....Midna is actually sexy and has to return to her home planet at the end?
Well, she probably died on the way there :ninja:
-
Oh? It's only ever appeared in front of me across the river like twice and both times the horse's head has been in the way. Other times I've turned around to see it just disappearing.
Hmm… without seeing it I couldn't really say. But there must be videos out there showing how to do this.
And I just looked, and this one guy just shoots through Epona's head. Oh well, it works >_>
Go to 4:30 since the embedded player won't jump to specific timestamps.
-
How the fuck did he see it? Oh well. Back to riding back and forth and wasting arrows.
-
I think he just knew it would be there. You can tell he's aiming before it even appears.
-
@Monkey:
What on earth are you talking about lol.
Ocarina, Majora and Waker are all excellent at the least. It just…people have been suddenly pointing just the lows out of the nowhere.
-

Having lows is called "existing".

Examining the faults and gaps in a video game doesn't mean it's bad. I think what the dude said in his Wind Waker review strikes the point home most of all: even with the most flawed mechanics in mind, it's the sort of game that from the moment you pick up to the moment it ends makes you genuinely smile and have a good time.
And that's the bottom line, even with all their faults these games are still all phenomenal experiences that stand, for the most part, the test of time.
Except for Skyward Sword, at least for me … I'm just not interested in the slightest and it's the one Zelda game where after spectating 30% of it I decided I was bored and never looked back.
-
I got the last Poe!!! Fourth Bottle, get!!
Now it's time to face that Water Temple.
-
-
Aw, thanks for reminding me, Satsuki. Guess I should take a break from Wind Waker HD and hunt those damn poes e_e
That reminds me, I'm missing heart pieces. Getting the bomb in the goron statue and catching the biggest fish as a child make me want to cry….
-
Ok so thanks to the garbage controls that are the harp and especially skydiving, I don't think I'm going to bother doing all the sidequests in this game.
-
I'm starting to think I'm the only person that loves Skyward Sword…
With you as well but I always say this I'm on of the people that had practically 0 problems with the controls not working.
So yeah I can certainly understand the insane frustration that could bring of having to do several re calibration during a session and the sword not moving in the way you want it to. -
I had to recalibrate a lot, but I guessed that it was because I played mostly lying down and only got up to face giharim or a sword intensive boss.
-
I had no problems with Skyward Sword and I loved it when I played it… but the more time passes the more the flaws kinda stick out a lot, especially when I revisit the other zeldas. Like, for instance, when I think about it, the big draw of the game is the 1:1 sword play, but I can't say I felt like I was doing any more legit and in depth sword play compared to twilight princess (which was great with its options for sword fights), and as Zeph just got to, the goddamn harp sticks out as the worst musical instrument in zelda by a mile
-
My sister has taken to playing Wind Waker HD on the big downstairs TV during all this, so it's kind of like a blaring sexy version of a better game is constantly reminding me what a great Zelda game actually looks like.
-
^That reminds me, you guys mentioned you could get the Picto Box way earlier in the HD version? Where?

There's no contest, the flute is the worst ever.
-
Thought I'd post some closing thoughts on my Link's Awakening DX run. I had previously only beaten the DX version once (when it came out) so most of the DX-specific stuff was not fresh in my memory. So yeah:
-I didn't set foot in the camera shop. Screw that place. Maybe if one of the photos didn't require stealing from the shop, which I consider a huge stain on my file.
Yyyyeah this is the only photo I didn't do. I hate that if you're a completionist kind of person, you essentially will be called THIEF for the rest of the game because of that one stupid photo. x(
-I don't like the gaudy coloring of the Wind Fish.
Haha when I was young I thought the fish looked awesome in color, and I was looking forward to it while I did my playthrough last week.
Then the Wind Fish came up and I was like, "That's not as beautiful as I remember it".^That reminds me, you guys mentioned you could get the Picto Box way earlier in the HD version? Where?
It's been a while, but I think what you mean is that you can get the picto box upgraded sooner. You get the Picto Box in the same manner as always. You can get the upgrade sooner without having to catch a rainbow bug or whatever in the forest island where the Deku Tree is at. You simply do the picture quests with Lorenzo and he'll make it color afterwards.
I really want to get back to MM. Can a Pro Controller play wii virtual console titles on the Wii U, or do I need to get a classic controller?
All of this MM talk makes me want to play MM on the virtual console (not holding out hopes for a remake anytime soon since it's already been a long time). Sad to see they don't have N64 titles on Wii U virtual console, and only Wii VC.

aaah. alright then. Thanks.

Well GC ports are coming to the Wii U…..hopefully it'll be the window for N64 and GC virtual console titles.

The flute in Spirit Tracks win this contest by ten miles. I raged so much at that shitty thing!
Yeah, the gameplay mechanic for it really was repulsive, but I don't know if I'm offended more by that or the fact that the Harp had absolutely zero musical functionality other than slight strumming
-

I know you have no desire to play SS, but I wouldn't say it's unplayable. It still has it's charms, yet it unfortunately just happens to have it's flaws in some of the basic gameplay elements. However, I didn't have that big of a problem with the motion controls, it was smooth sailing for me. The combat just wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be, and at times it was annoying.
It still had some saving graces, such as some of the bosses (the Cistern baddy gave me a smile, and the final Girahim fight+the final baddy was a joy), one of the best deserts in any of the Zelda games (or probably more accurately, the best gimmick for a desert), the bow mechanics, and the story, to name a few. Plus, seeing where the story fits in the "timeline" is pretty neat.
It's not the worst Zelda title as many people are making it out to be, It just isn't that great. I'll take Wind Waker/MM/OoT over SS anyday, but I found SS enjoyable, and don't really regret playing it. The moment I picked it up and the moment it ended, I can safely assert that I had a good time.

The Deluxe Picto Box no longer requires the forest firefly, so you can get it as immediately as your arriving on Windfall Island

Oh, that early? I'm almost done with Temple of Gods….
I'll have to get it after taking on all the Darknuts/Moblins in Hyrule Castle. God I love that part.

Well, I barely remember the harp section so it's just forgettable… not frustrating as hell like the flute... and you don't have to play harp during the final boss. It was the hardest part of the fight!
Conversely, it seems like I managed to erase anything concerning the final boss of spirit tracks from my memory, but the musical instruments are always my favorite part of the console zeldas (even the wolf howling was alright), so the Harp was a huge fucking massive disappointment the grand scheme of things.
-

A lot of the point of getting it early is to avoid backtracking into earlier dungeons, and also so that you can get all dungeon bosses immediately instead of at the end of the game. And keep in mind, there ARE some missable figures…

Aw crap. :X
-
I don't think you're at a point where you've missed any, but you could be very soon. Surprisingly one of the missable ones is one of the Rito guys standing out on a platform on Dragon Roost. Also Tetra. I forget what else, if anything. I think the boss of the Temple of the Gods can just be snapped back in his recess on the wall even after you beat the fight.
-
Aw crap. :X
Yup, like one of the Rito postmen, whom you've already missed by a lot. I believe you have to take his picture on your first visit to their island, because after that he leaves and you can no longer find him.

See, not saying it's unplayable, it's just immensely boring to me. Faron and Eldin were boring from the moment I saw them and the idea of trudging through both of those twi–um, thrice, just makes my whole being groan and decide it's not worth my time. And I didn't really feel like there was any more story than there ever is in Zelda. In fact, Wind Waker pulls off story much much better, especially since after Skyloft SS felt like it got bleached. Sooo much bland, no epic plot twists, and constant fetch quests to propel the story ... meh.
But yes, I do agree Koloktos is a cool boss. Never personally saw or did the battle, but when I saw it I was pleased. I just don't want to waste my time getting to that one moment and lanayru.
See, I think that's my problem with SS more than anything. Every Zelda game makes me feel like playing through it. Even Twilight Princess, which I never felt compelled to replay, had me going the entire time until the very last fight. It never felt like a chore. When Skyward Sword is the very first Zelda game to make me think "what else is on?", I consider that a huge problem.
-
Keep in mind I never tried this picture quest back in the Gamecube days, so forgive my ignorance. Then again, I went through the trouble to get all the figurines in Minish Cap (save your laughter, gents)
-

Your fine for the rito postman until medli leaves the island with you
-
It's not actually the postman though. His name is Kogoli or something (and to make matters worse, there's also a Koboli).
-
Your fine for the rito postman until medli leaves the island with you
before Earth Temple then? Whew.
-
Aw crap. :X
It's not as bad as it was back on GC. Other people can send the difficult photos out on Miiverse/Tingle Bottles. Foolio alone has given me Puppet Ganon.
-

Wait what? Did you seriously pick up a bottle from me? That's kind of awesome.

I can confirm this, at least for the gamecube version
-

Neat, I always make a beeline for the bottles (despite most of them being nonsense). Can't help it, I guess.

Keep in mind that the DS is a portable machine. As in they actually expected people to blow into that shit on the metro and buses and stuff.
Literally stopped playing Spirit Tracks because of that, I already felt a little self conscious playing a DS in public, I ain't doing that. -
Son of a gun, I had the PictoBox. I just have to do Ienzo's little tasks to get color photos.
At least I got Phantom Ganon via miiverse and the boss of the Forsaken Fortress.
-
Beat the Water Temple. Phew, such annoying back and forth, back and forth. Now on to get some more skulltalas and heart pieces, then the next temple. Whichever one that is.
-
Finished A Link Between Worlds, I liked the twist at the end, though Ganon was a piece of cake because I got all the weapon and armor upgrades. The baseball game to get 100 Rupees was actually the hardest thing about the game. Final Rating 4.5/5
-
The baseball game is annoyingly hard.
-
While I didn't have too much trouble with it (I only had to repeat Rooster level once), I found the Cucco Ranch mini-game to be more annoying. At least in the Octoball mini-game you can relax and line up your shots, whereas the Cucco mini-game is just "you'll be bombarded by chickens, which you need to dodge for 30 seconds, but you'll most likely fuck up just as the timer's about to run out and have to repeat the level". I dislike most, if not all, timed mini-games, really.

You're looking at it one way. But I think most people look at it from an intuition perspective. The cucco game is really intuitive. Things fly at you. You avoid them. The octoball game… not so much. It took me a really long time to get any real grasp of how the physics worked and even more time to consistently hit balls where I wanted to.
-
Yeah, Octoball was more complicated, but what made it less annoying for me is that I didn't have to worry about a timer, which tends to stress me out. Getting the hang of when to hit the ball was definitely a challenge, and I definitely had to make a handful of attempts before beating it, but I never felt stressed. The only source of stress in that game is making sure to hit the bird when it flies by, but that's if you can even consistently make it appear.
According to one of the developers, who has a score of 217, the key to scoring high is to only hit the golden jars and the bird, but it's like "Dude, I can barely make the ball go where I want it to half the time!" :D
-
I actually took longer with the Cuccoos for some reason than with the baseball. I think many times I trapped myself stupidly and then a giant one would end my run.
-
I'm gonna try and pass the Great Bay Temple now.
