Batoto has everything in Steel Ball Run up in high quality. Jojolion is also scanlated with all 33 chapters up on Batoto as well.
Part 6 is also there with quite decent scans.
Sweet, thanks for the help.

I have nothing but positive feelings about the currently airing adaptation of Stardust Crusaders in terms of the animation itself. However, for someone who first experienced the spoken dialogue for these particular characters via the PlayStation 1 port of the Capcom arcade fighting game, I'm truly noticing the difference in theatrical quality between the present day and the past.
Surprisingly, I'm quite a fan of Hol Horse. He's an amusing character and "honest" to his own credence. I'm not impressed by the current voice actor at all, unfortunately. The voice actor that performed as Hol Horse in All-Star Battle was far superior, and due to nostalgic feelings, I still regard the Capcom arcade version to be of a fitting quality, too. Regarding Hol Horse in All-Star Battle, I feel the actor had the most convincing "Western" accent I've heard in regard to a native Japanese speaker.
Then again, I enjoyed Norio Wakamoto as DIO in the CD Audio Drama version of Stardust Crusaders, too. That was simply due to Norio Wakamoto's appealing tone of voice, which he tends to use for every character he performs as. Personal preference, is all.
If I had to throw something into this discussion, it would be
. The PlayStation 2 video-game adaptation of Phantom Blood. I still consider the voice acting to be far superior to the work performed in the recent animated incarnation of Phantom Blood, and again, it is due to this lack of theatricality that seems to be a standard in the present day as far as voice work goes. It's no longer performed as a dramatic art, and is something more of a realistic art. Jonathan's voice in the animated version has a naive, youthful quality to it. Some complained he sounded "too old" in the PlayStation 2 incarnation, but I feel he actually sounds more masculine and heroic. In essence, that was the recurring theme of Phantom Blood. Masculinity and heroism. Nothing could have been more fitting.
The voice actor for Will Zeppeli in the PS2 incarnation was, in my eyes, far superior to the nasal drone of the more recent animated incarnation.
I honestly don't know if I prefer the PS2 voices over the ones used in the anime. While the anime doesn't fit perfectly, I thought a lot of what they went for was in the right direction.
Were the PS2 voices the ones used in the shitty movie that no one will ever see

Doesn't seem like it according to the VA listing for Jonathan here: http://jojo.wikia.com/wiki/Jonathan_Joestar
It may be a matter of what I experienced first being the prevalent choice due to overwhelming nostalgia and the fact that it was the "original" basis. However, Jonathan ages and becomes vastly more muscular during the early stages of Phantom Blood – Prior to Dio's transformation into a vampire and the battle on Ogre Street.
I still believe in the notion that Phantom Blood, and to an extent, Battle Tendency, should be treated with a slight B-Movie quality. The pulp fiction nature of the two is something that is clearly grounded in the past, both historically and in terms of the story's timeline. That said, I also believe that dubbing Phantom Blood into British English is the only fitting and logical thing to do, given the setting.
And that brings us to a new chapter of discussion, I believe.
The dub of phantom blood MUST have British voice actors. I'm not so bothered if they are not old-timey british but they have to be from england and have an english accent. Otherwise it's just weird.
I'm also wondering how speedwagon would sound with a real london accent
The narrator and Speedwagon need to have the same voice actor.
JoJonium editions of Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency will release digitally first and print later. Print will most likely be hardcover judging from the response of the audience.
Phantom Blood digital: September print: February
Battle Tendency digital: March (not sure about print yet)
Stardust Crusaders digital will release this Friday with 2 volumes every week.
They also mentioned that later Parts of the series will depend on how well these sales do.
Dub details are on Saturday.

Agreed, wholeheartedly so.
I would insist that they aren't American voice actors doing a Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins interpretation, though.
While I think there is room for localization humour, as a native of the United Kingdom, it wasn't easy for me to read those fan subtitles which were ridiculously shoehorned and pandering to old-time British culture. They were embarrassing to witness.
"Blimey guvnor, e's a bloody Vampire is wot e' is and no mistake! Sure as me Aunt Sally, I'll bet ten bob on it!"
Not verbatim, but close enough.
Can't remember the name of the translation group that opted for that route, but it was the equivalent of what I imagine a Japanese person feels when they experience Americans attempting to speak their language. Poorly.
Can't remember the name of the translation group that opted for that route
gg
I believe that was gg.
gg
I believe that was gg.
I believe you're likely correct.
It's a stifling scenario, though. I can't decide whether or not the person, or persons, responsible for that choice were of genuine English origin and chose British English as some sort of expression of exotic flair, or whether they were actually American or otherwise and thought it was some "historically accurate" translation.
Phantom Blood was adapted into animated form in 2012 by a Japanese animation studio from a Japanese fantasy horror comic book authored and illustrated by a Japanese male during the late 1980's. Historical accuracy regarding daily life in 1880's England was hardly a strong point of any person directly involved, I'd imagine.
And why should it be. It's a fucking comic book.
As far as I know, they went with that choice for heightened comedic effect.
Wow. What a fucking disgrace. Might as well have got the localization staff involved in Samurai Pizza Cats to "translate" and dub it into English.
I can accept a hint of tongue-in-cheek given the subject material, but to purposefully sabotage something with intentional mockery pisses me off.
This is what the meme subculture has done to us. You can't like something just because, you have to deride and mock it first.
For that kind of thing, I prefer the DUWANG subs. Shame those stopped early on, those were actually kinda neat.
Couldn't bring myself to watch the "Duwang" version. Inevitably, I always end up discussing this nowadays, but back in the day when Diamond is Unbreakable literally had no other alternative but the scanlated Duwang version available in piss-poor English, I certainly wasn't complaining.
Comedy, I find, is something you simply cannot force. It's a natural occurrence.
Duwang was funny because the translator wasn't aware it was terrible, but everybody else was.
So they'll be releasing Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency in the West, huh?
That's wonderful news, Sander.
Episode 14 is out.
I really liked this one: the atmosphere was fantastic, as well as the music, and it ended where it should have. Looking forward to next week.
I also loved the added scenes: Jotaro getting his new uniform, Anne leaving and the group signing on the register. They even explained why Joseph didn't use Hermi Purple to detect Enya and the structure of the hotel and its bathrooms, things I never imagined one could have a problem with as they were in the manga.
Wasn't it commie subs? I feel if it was anyone who did stupid vocabulary choices with poor reasoning choices it'd be them
Nope, it was gg. Commie subs were still good.
Huh, alrighty then. I guess they needed to catch up with shitty reasoning with shingeki no kyojin's "eotens"
Can't wait for the next installment of Polnareff's Epic Bathroom Quest.
Man, Hol Horse's seiyuu in All-Star Battle was so, so much better than the anime one.
I've been meaning to get into this anime. Is it any good?
I've been meaning to get into this anime. Is it any good?
Yes, pretty good. Go for it.
I've been meaning to get into this anime. Is it any good?
It's extremely good. You don't make it to 111 manga volumes and counting for nothing.
However, you need to realize a few things. First off, it starts a bit slow. Phantom Blood, while a good story, isn't quite as good as later parts. The part directly following, Battle Tendency is LEAGUES better right off the bat. So I recommend at least getting a decent way into Battle Tendency before you form your final opinion of it. Parts 1 and 2 also have an art style that borrows heavily from Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star) and it doesn't really start to get its own unique style until Part 3… and even then, the style continued to evolve more as time went on. They fix this in the anime a bit by making the character designs have hallmarks of later parts, but the HnK influence is still felt.
One thing as well, this may encourage you to skip ahead. Don't. Start with Phantom Blood. If you're going entirely on the new anime, this should be easy, but don't let the fact that the dub is starting at Stardust Crusaders make you feel like skipping is ok. It's not. Part 3 is infinitely better if you have the backstories of Dio, Johnathan, and Joseph in your head before starting it.
Speaking of which...
It's up on Crunchyroll right now. You can watch the first 3 episodes Dubbed!!!!!!
The dub's pretty good.
Joseph voice is really good.
I'm a bit meh on DIO and Avdol's voice.
I've always wondered why they go with "Avdol" instead of "Abdul".
@Cyan:
I've always wondered why they go with "Avdol" instead of "Abdul".
Paranoia, most likely.
And to clarify. Their acting is fine, It's just different.
Oh and Kyle Hebert is kakyoin.
No idea who voices holly and Avdol/Abdul.
Like, it's a pretty common Arab name, not like Paula Abdul has monopoly on it.
@Cyan:
I've always wondered why they go with "Avdol" instead of "Abdul".
Because the translators are maintaining the purity of the Japanese language corrupting the purity of the Arabic language.
@Cyan:
I've always wondered why they go with "Avdol" instead of "Abdul".
Because his name IS Avdol, not Abdul.
Here's how the name "Abdul" is written in Japanese 90% of the time:
アブドゥル - Abudouru - Abdul
And here's how Araki writes Avdol's name:
アヴドゥル - Avdouru - Avdol
A lot of Japanese words take "B" characters such as ブ and use them interchangeably to mean either a "B" or "V" sound, however, ヴ which is the character for "u" (ウ) with those two extra marks (Tenten) added is pretty much universally meant to be a "V" sound.
So, "Abdul" is dead wrong.
Well Abdul isn't technically a name in arab countries, it's a part of composed names like Abdullah, Abdulali, Abdulilah…etc. It also includes the definite article of the second word's definite article Al.
Al- (Arabic: ال, also transliterated as el- as pronounced in varieties of Arabic) is the definite article in the Arabic language; a particle (ḥarf) whose function is to render the noun on which it is prefixed definite. For example, the word كتاب kitāb "book" can be made definite by prefixing it with al-, resulting in الكتاب al-kitāb "the book". Consequently, al- is typically translated as the in English.
Now to clear the confusion Abd means slave, and if you take an example like Abdullah you can see that the composed version will be Abd-al-allah (Litterally Abd of Allah = Slave of the God) but to make it grammatically correct and sound less heavy the vowels absorb the Al, so in the case of Abd (عبد) Tashkil is added.
The literal meaning of tashkīl is 'forming'. As the normal Arabic text does not provide enough information about the correct pronunciation, the main purpose of tashkīl (and ḥarakāt) is to provide a phonetic guide or a phonetic aid; i.e. show the correct pronunciation. It serves the same purpose as furigana (also called "ruby") in Japanese or pinyin or zhuyin in Mandarin Chinese for children who are learning to read or foreign learners.
This Tashkil lets you add small vowels (diatrics) to make certain letters "have a sound", the A of Abd is the letter Ayn ع which doesn't have any sound without Tashkil, but by adding the fatha َ (which is basically an A that can be applied to every other letter) the Ayn will have an A sound.
Now back the whole Al being absorbed thing, by adding a diatric at the end of Abd it will become Abdu (عَبْدُ) which absorbs the Al thus making it Abdul.
So the Abdul is just a corrupt version of Abdu(insert whatever name you like from here) that got changed into Avdol/Avdul.

Man, you couldn't get more accurate. :P
10/10
Holly sure sounds like Julie-Ann Tailor to me.
Really wish we could find out who voices Avdol, I think he's doing an amazing job.
I'm pretty sure he was Michael Alston Baley (at least his voice sounds like Zinerman's from the Gundam Unicorn dub). I've heard that that's actually an alias for David Brimmer, the 4Kids voice actor for Crocodile (and others).
Okay, scratch that. According to twitter it's a guy named Chris Tergliafera and this is his first non-bit part role.

ok thank you for the answer :)
Technically, the last Joestar was Shizuka, I guess. And Holly was also "Joestar" before she married.
I just watched stardust crusader episode 1 English dub and i gotta say jotaro's voice actor was horrible the rest were ok
So after years of hearing nothing but praise for this series, I decided to catch up with it by starting with the anime, since I heard it is very faithful to the manga.
And I was really surprised at how difficult it was to just get through the first episode. I was not expecting Dio to be that cruel at all, and for no good reason? Granted, I've never heard anything about any of the characters in this series so I didn't know exactly what to expect, and it's not like I'm going to quit just because of the first episode when I know it gets a lot better with the second part, but I when I finished it, I felt severely discouraged.
Just thought I'd share my thoughts
P.S. I love the ending theme. A lot.
Basically Phantom Blood is all hokey and simplistic in its approach, but basically Dio was a huge dick since he was a kid. Smart, grew up on his own basically, but, well, he is his father's son (although much more fab), and all it comes to is that he'll take any advantage he can get his hands on. On the other hand, in spite of being a huge dick, he carries a pretty huge amount of charisma, and especially after his plot to get the family fortune falls into shambles, he's pretty much the classiest guy around, especially in terms of villains.
Also helps that Takehito Koyasu is voicing him. And yes, Roundabout is awesome.
Well, I'm onto the second episode and I'm very very very happy to see that Jojo isn't such a weaking now.
Makes me excited to see him smash Dio's face in all the more
Just saw the latest episode, the Justice fight was handled very well and even though they can't beat the aniamtion quality of the old OVA for this one they sure make up for it with style, atmosphere and voice acting.
The zombie punching scene was the best part of the 2000 OVAs, and they didn't top that. But their interpretation was more faithful and stylish and I didn't dislike it. The end of the fight, however, always manages to surprise because oh how stupid it is.
Next week we have the Lovers, and the week after that one the most satisfaying beatdowns in the series. I'm hyped as always.
Just a question. I don't have the patience to hunt through the thread if this has already been addressed.
At the rate we're going with the stand encounters, is Stardust Crusaders going to be more than 26 episodes?
Or will they have to do a second part?
