The day has come again.
With the score between continents being 10:9 in Europe's favor, it's time to have another South American champion. I really hope Argentina and Uruguay go very far. Same goes for the rest of them even if their chances are much lower. If that doesn't work out, there are my usual picks, Italy and Netherlands. And Russia, even if they probably won't go anywhere.
Just please no Spain or Germany.
Anyway, Honduras will be the champion of our hearts.

I'm actually predicting for an upset today. Normally the first match is boring and ends in a draw because both teams are nervous and do not want to take risks as it is their first match.
I'm predicting a draw, but if I had to pick a winner today, it would be Croatia 2-1. I hope Brazil crumbles so badly. I do not want any South American teams doing well. None of them! I hope they all get eliminated in the group stage! Muhahahahahahahahahaha!!!:wub:

It's painful to see such talented players as Rakitic or Modric forced to defensive tasks instead of creating attack chances for their team. A shame.
As expected, lots of defensive mistakes (Alves and Marcelo for Brazil, Olic for Croatia) and not much clairvoyance or creativity, but Brazil did step up their game after Croatia's goal. Pretty decent Neymar so far, too.

Holy crap, I heard rumors people were really suspicious about the referee's treatment towards Brazil during this World Cup. This japanese referee did nothing to prove those suspicions wrong.
That penalty was absolutely non-existant, and the referee was like. . .1 meter away from the action?
Anyways. 3-1, pretty unfair result. Croatia's second half was much better than the first.

Prediction for tonight's opening match: Brazil wins 3 - 1.
But huh, what an unimpressive match. And weird too. An own goal, an unfair penalty, so many yellow cards (which in some cases should have been red).
Brazil played really patchy, very disappointing. This did not look like a winning team at all.Croatia did well under the circumstances, especially their keeper had some nice saves. And at least their coach is hot.

That match was bollocks. Only one match down and it's already being set up for Brazil. Horrible call from the ref and it totally destroyed the match for Croatia.
I have a feeling I'm not going to like this World Cup. The corruption is already transparent enough without this added to it.

There was contact but he was definitely not thrown to the ground, which is I think the reason the penalty was called.

I thought i wouldn't see any matche given that i don't have a TV Antenna at home (i only use the TV for Movies and Videogames) but i forgot i live in an office zone. I literally can open my window and i can hear the tv of the nearby bars and restaurants and it's in every place i walk by so i can watch it even if i'm just walking in the street.
Also, you thought there wouldn't be corruption? Oh guys, FIFA is almost a cartoon villain.

Okay I don't know why there is so much "controversy" being discussed here. These kinds of things happen in club games every week!! YES it was not a clear penalty but players do take advantage of niggly fouls and some referees, based on circumstances, take decisions. It just happens in football. Croatia's goal was disallowed obviously because of the foul made on the keeper and this was not a blind call at all.
Coming to the game, Croatia could have actually won this if they had maintained the momentum they had initially. Brazil looked edgy when they were counter attacking through the flanks and I was surprised they did not take much advantage of that. In the second half, they pulled back all their forward players and crowded the midfield to cut off Oscar's role(who was brilliant the entire game!) in dictating the play. Good plan but they could have complimented it with attacking the flanks a little more consistently than they did.
Brazil on the other hand should request Alves and Marcelo to lay low and not go forward much especially Alves who is clearly not as good as how he used to be. Teams like Germany would have torn them apart if they play the same way like how they did this game. On the bright side, Croatia giving so much room to Oscar initially did pretty good to boost his confidence and get him back on form.
Anyways, time for the winners and runners up from last WC to face off today!

Brazil distinctly unimpressive though bar Oscar who was brilliant. They'll have to improve a lot to challenge, even with the extra "assistance"
Hopefully they get Chill in the KOs. Croatia were excellent, Modric and Rakitic are a wonderful tandem hope they make it out the group.

Well, my team could have done a lot better, especially in the offensive play. The ref obviously helped Brazil with his decisions and we'll never know how the game would have ended without those mistakes.
On the other hand, it wouldn't be good if a big riot broke out during WC. People are rioting as it is.This is one of the main reasons why I don't like watching football, apart from player simulations. The ref can ruin a good game with a couple of mistakes. At least in rugby the ref checks the cam when he's not sure what to decide. But this will never be implemented into football, as long as there's so much money in it.
As for simulations, I get tackled twice as bad than any of those fouls in last night's game and still get up and run right away. It's a little annoying to watch those agonising grimaces of players falling helplessly after being grazed by another player. Fred is a dick.

Soft penalty, soft foul denying Croatia their second goal etc.
If Brazil play like that against a real side then they're going to get destroyed.

They looked very vulnerable defensively.
David Luiz should always be deployed in defensive midfield rather than at centre half for me.
He makes good runs and he's a solid tackler, but he isn't as dominant in the air as he should be, and his concentration is lax.

I have a feeling we'll destroy the aussies today. I've been reviewing to the first pages and I'm glad not everyone has ruled us out of making it from our group.
I think we have a good chance of making it, we've played lots of times against spain in the last years, and even though we haven't been able to beat them, we've played pretty tight matches. I believe we have a solid chance against Netherlands. I only hope that IF we make it out of the group stage, we can avoid Brasil… They've taken us out in the round of sixteen at our last two WCs :getlost: ('98 and 2010)
