@tatermoog:
Yeah, it's kind of that consistent problem of how representative the obsessive hardcore gamers are of the culture at large at any given time. Would have to assume that they're a significant chunk of the install base at the moment. It's probably like how indie developers described the Vita, in that they tended to sell more games on Vita than other systems just because the initial wave was almost entirely hardcore gamers desperate for additional games.
You picking it up, Darth?
Oh yeah that's right, the ps4 game attach rate being on average about 2 games per console is pretty impressive considering that PS+ is offering some free games(which I believe they didn't count into their 13.7 million ps4 games sold). I forgot how the Vita attach rate compares to that.
I won't be picking it up cause I don't actually own a PS4 yet. The friend that reminded me about it coming out does though so he'll be picking it up.
Don't think I'll care enough trying to play that with him when I can play Dark Souls II.
@Green_vs_Red:
I think Twisted Metal, Motorstorm Apocalypse, & Gran Turismo 6 were others that got practically lttle to no advertisment on TV as well. It doesn't and I say this as someone who very likely won't pick up Titanfall despite all the marketing buzz around it.
@tatermoog:
Oh, that's not even the half of it. A ton of latter-era PS3 games got shafted in terms of marketing, i.e. Puppeteer, PASBR, Starhawk, Sly 4. They even massively overhauled their marketing team towards the end, though it's unclear if this was the reason.
I actually totally forgot about twisted metal despite it being featured in all stars, I also had to google what starhawk was.
Yeah I was slightly curious about Titanfall when it was announced but at the end of the day it's just another multiplayer shooter I'm just done with those for now.
@RobbyBevard:
Seems to me that they're still trying to push the system more than any one single game. Hence the "its such a perfect day" ads, and now this one… which just quickly show a variety of games with high quality graphics.
Less of "You gotta own this system to play this one game" and more "this system has a lot of games.", which is an interesting way to go with a relatively small early launch catalog.
Oh that's a pretty good point I haven't considered.
