! Thanks DarthAsthma
! I guess Hayama will get like 94 points, and Soma will get either 93 or 94.

! Strange isn't it only the 4 first who pass ? Why would there be a ballot vote for the 5th place ?

It's cause I didn't reorder the spoiler and translated it just as it was posted. The first part describes the last things in the chapter so that part with the ballot occurs before Megumi presents her dish. I'll reorder them later when I get back home doing the rest of the translation.
–------------------------------------
Ok added the rest and rearranged it to make more sense, but I was only guessing since I haven't read the raw yet. -

Second release this week. Making sure they try to catch up I s'pose.

Hooray for Casonova! I love the Aldini brothers and I want that pasta dish right now. Also shame on the terrible taste of the shonen jump voters, Alice all the way down in 7th whilst Erina is in 2nd! Absolutely disgusting!
-
The Aldini brothers are such a lovable bunch. Glad their brotherly competition was resolved in such a satisfying way.

i am expecting Hayama and Souma will tie…..

i had to think imidiatly at the next scene from inglorius basterds

Seeing how the other Aldini brother tied at 87, I think Megumi is going to get an 88 and squeeze by…it's that plot armor.

That's one fucking weird curry.
Also while it's always nice to see more of Megumi flashbacks man she's getting way to much spotlight. Now I feel dissatisfied about how they dealt with some of the other polar star members.
-
Well, she's basically the interim female lead/best friend/"first mate" of the story so long as Erina is still a rival and an antagonist plotwise.
I'm not that disturbed about her getting the spotlight as often as she does when Soma's arcs like the current one do tend to get really action-focused. It basically shows that they haven't forgotten about dynamic character development, and while it would be really nice to let the other Polar Star guys have the spotlight every once in a while as well, I think we're still basically following a Megumi saga where she tries her wings as an independent cook for the first time with Souma's encouragement.
It's kind of worrying that they won't develop all the characters simultaneously because they seem to have no problems whatsoever with Erina, Alice, and the Aldini Brothers, but I remain hopeful anyway. We're only at chapter 57. Things have a lot of time to get more fleshed out.

Shokugeki no Megumi all day everyday
Girl brings out the heart of this manga
-
Please use spoiler tags when the scan isn't out yet.
! Great chapter :
- I'll wait for the translation but right now the judges' reaction to Alice's dish seems underwhelming compared to her 95 score.
- Megumi is such a well developed character.
! My prediction was right for Block B.
Souma and Hayama will probably be 1st and 2nd of Block A. If Ibusaki is chosen by the judges instead of Marui for the 4th place, my prediction for Block A will be also right.I'm quite satisfied by the development of the other Polar Star members. I've got more than I expected.
The fact that they all scored high makes me hopeful that they will be more than just cheerleaders for Souma and Megumi unlike the 2 unnamed guys. But even for them, I'm expecting a small development later in the manga. -
! Really happy about chapter 57, but I'm tired of waiting for Soma's dish
-
best homey country girl
best homey country dish -
! BOOM, I was right on the money lol she really is the most developed character in the series…for now.
-
Seriously I was pretty curious about that valentines card thing since the next page wasn't included in the raws I've looked at.
And I'm not disappointed xD.@Toraish:

Really wanted to reply earlier but I was so stuck on a 3ds game, sry:ninja:.
But yeah I was just being a greedy brat. There is just so much I want to know about the other characters but yeah it's not like I don't want to see Megumi's current arc through. And yep with the Hojo built up it was pretty much a given that she was getting more attention. And you're right we're only 57 chapters in and at least we got the Aldini and Hisako chapter for now which where pretty full of delicious character info.
Although they mostly worked out well since they directly tied into another character allowing the author to deal with 2 characters at once and retaining the pace. But man do I wish we'd gotten a proper Marui flashback.

Ch.57 is out folks http://casanovascans.com/read/shokugeki_no_soma/en/0/57/page/1
-
Haha of course Alice would take the top spot she's the final boss of this arc. That scene where Megumi was on the phone to her mum whilst staring at all those Es really tugged on my heartstrings.
-
I feel bad for younger Aldini.
-
I couldn't stop smiling at Megumi's kindheartedness. Such a sweet girl.
Alice taking the top spot was to be expected. Although I didn't exactly like her dish. It felt like she was trying way too hard to be special.
-
I kind of like what they did by juxtaposing Alice's dish with Megumi's. Alice's cooking is supposed to be based on using scientific theories and the like and applying them to cooking. But while her dish was amazing, it still couldn't quite grasp a perfect score. I think by using Megumi next and comparing, it shows that ultimately, the one missing component in Alice's dish is heart so to speak, because while Megumi's dish wasn't as good, it was oozing with heart
-
Great chapter. With the translation I now get an explanation for the absence of "foodgasm" for Alice's dish. I liked it.
If the main tournament has a classic format (A1 vs B4, A2 vs B3…) we can have some very interesting match-ups.
If Souma is first and Hayama second we would have :- Souma vs Megumi
- Hayama vs Takumi
- Kurokiba vs Hisako
-
Great chapter.
My predictions about who will pass in each block :
Block A :- Souma
- Hayama
- Alice's aide
- Ibusaki
Block B :
- Alice
- Takumi
- Megumi
- Erina's secretary
Looks like you got block B.
-
Anyone else thinking that Soma might only scrape through?
-
Megumi, daughter, how proud I am for you.
-
Megumi is officially one of my favorite female characters ever.
-
Wow, that was… really touching tbh. Megumi's my favorite girl now.
-
Anyone else thinking that Soma might only scrape through?
After all the build-up his dish has had, and him openly challenging Hayama, I doubt it. Both might tie in this round and get their real match in the finals, but Souma getting his ass kicked in the preliminaries would only undermine all the effort he put in during the summer vacation.
-
Have to agree, also I don't see what a loss does for Soma story wise at this point.
We had that self admitted fail at the training camp, his frustration when he "lost" against Shinomiya and most importantly his recent loss against his dad.
So those should have spurred him into at least delivering a good performance at the preliminaries.
The next time he's going to be "failing" is probably around the time when he's rearing up to really go against seat nr.9 . -
I love how Alice is pretty much the Heston Blumenthal of Soma. Though it's weird that no one has had a foodgasm reaction to her food yet.

The next time he's going to be "failing" is probably around the time when he's rearing up to really go against seat nr.9 .It's rather simpler. He can lose now an win in the finals… Shounen logic: a previous beat adds some salt to the final. And if he wins the final, what you say keeps being valid. But I bet he will be second in the preliminaries. ... Also next chapter it's not a duel between Ayama and Soma, but a classificatory round.

It looks like a future plot point in the development. Alice is a genius when it come to cooking technique, but she lacks the sentiment needed to offer the food. Even in this chapter, she looks perplexed when one of the judges mentions the kindness of Megumi's cooking.
She is not as terrrible as person as Erina, but it will take some effort for Soma to show her the real joy of food.

But SnS not going down that route is what makes it so good. It may not be a duel per se right now, but it's blatantly obvious that both Souma and Hayama will use the preliminary round to determine who's the better one. That is why I still believe a tie is the likeliest option at this point.
-
This is Hayama at his best. If Souma loses here and wins during the next round it's a hollow victory.
-
Remember that Hayama is not the main antagonist of this arc/saga, though. That's the current 9th seat guy whose name currently escapes me. Souma winning here would show him that the guy he's tagged isn't just anybody and that he should take him seriously, whereas a loss or a close second-place finish would make Souma seem like a talented but a clearly lesser cook whose reputation doesn't really match his skill.
The second-place thing right below Alice could still happen, more or less, if it was explained with Souma not being very familiar with making curry-type dishes. It would mainly be a plot device that makes his next round win seem far more impressive. But even then, I don't think going down that route would be very satisfying or believable with how much focus both Souma and Hayama have gotten this arc and with how cool they both seem to be about the whole thing. If they were even the tiniest bit insecure, they wouldn't be as calm.
-
@Sen:

Pretty much this. Hayama's specialty is making curry. The point would kind of be lost if Soma didn't beat him at his own game
-
Ahh I should miss that. Is the next round about Curry or not? If not, Sen is right; Soma should end first in the first round.
-

Yeah pretty much. Alice is all about molecular gastronomy and doing food as a pure science, and Erina on the other hand is just purely into the highest end of things of course, so they both lack that sense of human showmanship in their dishes. Heck it's almost certainly why Alice and Megumi's dishes were presented in the same chapter.
-
Kind of sad when Takumi put his hand on Isami's shoulder in that last page. Speaking from personal experience I know it's hard to compete against family, especially a brother. Hope Isami and Houjou make a comeback later and become a threat. The other two Polar Star girls also need to step it up.
Was that Megumi's father with the headband or just a fisher in the village? I don't recall if her father was mentioned before.
@Sen:
This is Hayama at his best. If Souma loses here and wins during the next round it's a hollow victory.
Agreed. For the first round to be curry, a dish that requires so many spices, it pretty much sets up Hayama as the main competition.

He's Eizan, and yes he says to Soma the autumn election will be his downfall. But the main antagonist of the arc should be a contestant and he's not. So the final battle should be against someone among the eight cookers selected in the preliminaries, most likely Alice. Hayama will be lose against Soma in the preliminaries which are about curry.
But coming back to Eizan, we saw him supporting Soma's entrance in the election. So I wonder what's his idea to crush Soma in the best possible stage. Will he enter the election in the next round?

! Given Hayama's score being like this, I guess Soma will get 1 point more than him. -
Yeah, Soma tieing with Alice sounds about right
-
Damnit man, use spoiler tag.

That was a prediction, not a spoiler
