First off, this is pure speculation on my part! Then again, none of us will know for sure if or when they will go to the Red Line. That's up to Oda of course!
Anyhow, since the Red Line is a continent, I'm sure the Strawhats would have to adjust to land travel, borders, and bandits. The possibilities are numerous!
Any ideas of what could happen? I hope that the next arc takes place on the Red Line!
The Strawhats and the Red Line
-
-
I don't think anyone lives on the red line.. :/
-
Loguetown's on the Red Line.
-
Never thought of that… There's gotta be something there that prevents people from entering the grandline from there.... I wonder what Oda will come up with.
-
We learned in the Norland flashback that it's possible to enter the Grand Line with permission from Mariejoie. This suggests that there's at least some sort of city or outpost where the Red Line and Grand Line cross that would allow entrance from the 4 Blues. It's even possible that this city is Mariejoie itself, since we don't know it's exact position.

They said that when?
-
I think the reason that Mariejoa is called "Holy Land" is it's probably the only part of the Red Line that isn't hugely mountainous.
-
Uhh…in the Norland flashback?
Specifically, it's in the part when Norland is returning to Jaya. The King says that they received permission from Mariejoie to enter the Grand Line. The reason this suggests that there's some sort of outpost or city at the Red Line is as follows:
1. You can't enter the Grand Line from anywhere else besides where the Grand Line intersects the Red Line because of the Calm Belt.
2. If they planned on entering through Reverse Mountain, they wouldn't need permission from Mariejoie.
3. In order for Mariejoie to be able to control entrance into the Grand Line, they need a security gate or outpost that must be manned. This would probably be fairly large considering the traffic that goes in and out. There could potentially also be traffic between the 4 Blues. It is only natural for a large city to develop around a large hub.Getting back on topic, I'm not really sure how much adjusting to land travel the Strawhats will have to do. There is probably a way for them to sail across the Red Line on a river or something, since I doubt they would part with their ship for this. I guess the other option would be to add wheels and sail across that way, but personally I think that feels a little weird.
-
My bad, my bad…
-
There's must be two intersection points between Redline and Grandline. Maybe one of them is reverse mountain (pirate's way) and the other could be Mariejoie, the (official) way.
Then, it why don't marines guard that entrance?
I think they WANT the pirates to get near One Piece.
They have people like Aokji, that could end up with small fires pirates without giving them a chance to become real problems… -
Maybe they can get over the Red Line through another sky island. If I recall correctly, Skypeia wasn't only in its kind, after all. This may seem a bit "done", but if Oda intends to get them across that way, he would probably find a way to make it unique once again - I doubt he'd be planning to use sky islands to get across Red Line and use all his sky island material in Skypeia. Maybe he even intended Skypeia to be a mere prelude to such an arc, where Enel will come down in a more vile environment.
Of course, this is all just in case they'd "fly" over the Red Line. Which they probably won't ^^
-
Maybe they can get over the Red Line through another sky island…
Actually your idea is not that impossible. Speaking of sky islands, I have always wondered what goes on at the blue sea between Jaya and Longring Long Island. I know they dropped down from Cloud End after Skypiea. Did they know where they were after they dropped down? I always feel that there's a void in terms of geographical location between Jaya and Long ring Long Island. Or did I miss sth?
-
maybe that octopus balloon will come back and help them across.
-
I think it was more of a parachute than a balloon, in the sense it helps one to get down slowlier, but can't help one to get up. And even if it would, I doubt it would follow the Straw Hats all that time without anyone noticing ^^
-
well it was just a random idea
-
And why not pass through the Red Line with a submarine ?
The new ship could possibly be a submarine ( who said Yellow ? )
who can pas under the Red Line…
We already have had some Sky Island, we may have Underground Land, possibly be the isle where live the Human-Fish ( m'sorry don't know the word in English... )...
I would really enjoy if they can go in an underground land ^^ -
^ Now that's something I would like too, but it would be quite hard for Luffy, Chopper and Robin as Devil Fruit users…
-
Maybe there are some canals that go through the Red Line to the other side of the Grand Line (like the Panama Canal) that the World Government controls.
-
Would be cool to see the SH breaking trough something like that. :)
-
Probably the Mermen island is there. And to get over the land, you need to go UNDER it! Haha. Those mermen sure are funny.
-
So how do Ace, Blackbeard or any of the pirates further down cross the redline if there was a strong marine outpost?
-
I like the underwater idea. it would be cool to see an arc where they travel to some underwater cave-city thats full of kairoseki. then luffy, robin, and chopper could be captured or something since they'd be weakened and the arc would focus around zoro, ussop, nami, sanji, and franky fighting a shichibukai. and a power struggle between ussop and zoro for who acts as captain :)

So how do Ace, Blackbeard or any of the pirates further down cross the redline if there was a strong marine outpost?
This is true…But, I think that just because the way into the Grand Line is controlled by the WG at the intersection, doesn't necessarily mean that the way across is. The Grand Line seems to be pretty wide, so maybe the outposts are only at the "corners" of where the GL and RL cross. I guess this would reduce the possibility of Mariejoie being at the intersection.
I guess to sum up what I've said so far:
1. The WG controls entrance into the GL at the "halfway point" where the GL and RL cross (not reverse mountain).
2. To be able to have control here, there is probably a strong outpost of some sort.
3. Because of how wide the GL is, the outpost is probably not a single large city that spans the RL, but 4 separate outposts located at the "corners" of the intersection between the GL and RL, and the four Blues.
4. Therefore, in order to cross the RL and reach the other side of the GL, you don't necessarily need to pass through the outposts.I hope that what I've said so far makes sense. Keep in mind that this idea is something I came up with based off of very little in the manga, and will probably end up being totally wrong, and I will look like a fool for spending so much energy trying to defend it.
-
Maybe all the pirates who came trough there breach trough it?
And I think the most WG/marines won't attack Ace because he is a part of whitebeards strongest force. And I think they are a little bit afraid of Whitebeard. -
If you remember the time Crocus explained everything about the seven roads of Grand Line, we clearly saw Red Line being crossed in several points. Even if Marie Joa is one of the crossing points, it might not be on the SH's road. I feel the point in Red Line the SH will have to cross will be guarded by a Shichibukai and not the government itself.
I hope there will be a small arc (like Drum, Jaya or Long Ring Long Land) before the SH cross Red Line, as I feel the Red Line arc will be another long one… But it's about time they cross the continent. They entered Grand Line in volume 12 and are still not halfway 30 volumes later...
-
I'm going to stick to what I said in a previous thread which is the WG will send out a special bustercall to prevent the SH's from crossing the redline. The reason this bustercall will be "special" is because instead of the five vice admirals leading the bustercall I want one of the three admirals(preferably Akinu and his "if there is an enemy among friends, then kill the friends too" policy) to lead it.
-
maybe the strawhats will somehow get to red line after this arc, then cross to the other side, and get a new ship from the other side, cos the way i look at it, how the hell are they gonna get a ship from one side of red line to the other…
-

There probably won't be anymore Buster Call after this chapter ends
Spandam made the stupid mistake and ordered a Buster Call in the end Buster Call will probably be defeated just was CP9
-
Speaking of buster call, I just remembered sth Robin had said in chpt 359, vol 38.
"Robin: CP9 has been given the one-time authorization
to issue a "Buster Call" against the Straw Hat Crew."Does that one-time authorisation refers to: 1)CP9 can only use it once on a particular target, say SH. But the admirals can use it a few times on the same target. 2) Buster-call can only be used once on a particular, regardless of who initiated it?
-
I hope they spend less time IN the Red Line and more time EXPLAINING it. What kind of continent goes around the whole world???
Also, the idea of a sichibukai guarding it sounds original, but I hope it's not Mihawk.

It's referring to the fact that Aokiji gave special permission to CP9 to use the Buster Call once. I don't think it was ever specifically mentioned that it could only be used on the SH, so I assume it could have been any target they desired. Admirals have the authority to use the Buster Call at any time, against any target if they so please. I don't think they have any limitations on number of times Buster Call is initiated. If your question is about some kind of double jeopardy type thing, I don't think there is.

As a followup to this discussion, I thought I would add something that I found. I was just rereading the manga, and there's confirmation that there actually is a town at the intersection of the GL and RL in volume 3. I did a quick translation of the lines, and they go as follows:
Nami (p.100): Correct! There are 2 oceans in the world. The giant continent which separates the oceans is called the "Red Line."
Nami (p.101): There is a path that perpendicularly crosses the town at the "center" of the Red Line, and circumscribes the globe. This path is called the "Grand Line." -
Hmmm. Interesting. I foresee a super-mega-giga-kekka-terra arc there.
