This HQ is obviously in GW which means…if Komatsu steps out from there will he gain a ton (or die)? According to some studies places w/ more gravity makes you more heavier.
Toriko II: Ichiryuu's Slimy Insides!!

That reminds me, screw Alfaro for trying using Grinpatch as an example to the chefs what would happen to them if they didn't corperate.
Losing Tommyrod was already hard for my heart losing Grimpatch would be to much, especialy this soon. Now that you mention it has anyone at Bishokukai even given s**t about tommyrod since he died, I feel like they're not very concerned about it at all, I get that they're an evil organization but still.
-
I really doubt they had time to check who made it back and who didn´t. But I really hope the rest notices too, Star gives me the vibe that he actually worries about his comrades. He´s clearly worried about Grin.
-
I think right now Komatsu is in the safest place for him. If NEO members will try to kidnapp him Midora alone would be more than enough to obliterate (and eat) them, unless Blue Nitro come too. I think some way Midora will become some sort of good guy, as well as Grin, Star and Alfaro too (remember Setsuno knew Alfaro and told him he became arrogant).
-
Imagine how Toriko would feel if, after beating said monster, and gaining confidence to rescue Komatsu, Komatsu appeared and said "they just let me go". He, of course would be happy, but he would never have fulfilled his confidence and, in the end, he wouldn't find out if he would have been able to rescue him. That notion would stick with him and probably mess with him in the future and could be bad news for their combo, especially when they faced terrible danger yet again. Toriko could become over fearful for Komatsu, nervous, etc. In short, he could lose his cool and the edge that he has always shown regarding protecting Komatsu.
Then the author should not give Komatsu the option of leaving. Omit the scene.
@Panda:Would someone be so kind as to remind me why it is we all seem to be assuming that there's even going to be any sort of traditional 'rescue arc' in the first place?
I can't help but feel that it's been made painfully obvious over the past several chapters that NEO is replacing the Bishokukai as the series' main villainous group, and frankly, the latter remaining even antagonistic is beginning to seem rather unlikely; and yet everyone seems to be taking it for granted that Toriko is going to have to fight his way through everyone that remains there, up to and including Midora himself, to 'rescue' Komatsu. Why? Honestly, why?
I too have no doubt that the Bishokukai villain tenure is up. But the reason I- and so many others- assume Toriko will face some sort of challenge in getting Komatsu is:
Because Komatsu states this will be so. Komatsu says: I wont bother leaving, because I know Toriko will get me.
If Toriko shows up only to have the Bishokukai hand him over, then Komatsus grand gesture loses all meaning. What, then, is the point, if any?As is, the scene is Komatsu declining the "easy way out" because he has so much faith in Toriko rescuing him because Toriko is the gosh darn greatest person ever and can do anything. But if Toriko literally just needs to pick Komatsu up, then the scene might as well be:
"Komatsu, you're free to go"
"Cool. Can I hang around until Toriko picks me up?
"Sure"Not terribly dramatic.
Like I said, the Bishokukais time as full-on main villains is over, but still. Komatsu is being held against his will by a gang of murderous criminals, with his personal abductor responsible for the savage mutilation of Komatsus best friend. Being the bishokukais prisoner shouldn't be a "shrug oh well!" matter for Komatsu. And from the bishokukai side of the matter, why not have them keep the chefs they worked so hard to get, at least for now. They don't have to be all-out allies yet.
So what if what had happened was:- The Bishokukai keeps Komatsu. No offer of release.
- Komatsu is confident that Toriko will get him, so he resolves to make the most of his captivity; he might as well learn something, and help the other chefs while he waits
- Eventually Toriko and Komatsu reuinite, and Staajun hands Komatsu over because he's mellowed out and sees what the OTP of the series is.
-
Really, Komatsu.
Really.

@The:
Then the author should not give Komatsu the option of leaving. Omit the scene.
Then the author wouldn't have a scene showing off Komatsu's skills, which were capable of impressing Midora, nor a scene expressing Komatsu's faith in Toriko and his instinct that remaining there is the best course of action (which I'm sure will turn out to be). And they are both good scenes.
Criticizing the fact that it doesn't make much rational sense for Komatsu to remain, doesn't really hold up after seeing so many situations in this manga of characters relying on instinct, a sixth sense, or similar, a recurring theme. Which makes Komatsu's decision perfectly coherent not only with his own character but with that very theme. Especially after seeing Coco doing exactly the same in regards to Komatsu just a few chapters ago (which has already been convenient since I'm not sure if Toriko would have survived if Komatsu hadn't been there).

This
Also, Komatsu's decision is especially baffling considering
1. He knows that the Bishokukai are murderous thugs.
2. He knows that the world is probably in bad shape after the meteor garlic and could use some good cooking.Of course his staying with Midora will serve the plot, but it's extra extra contrived.
-
@Thousand:
I bring up these characters as an example to make it clear what terrible storytelling it is. My argument is far from it's bad because OP didn't do it. It's bad because it undermines the protagonist's trials and tribulations and kills any tension the arc might have because it was all UNNECESSARY. If you want I can bring up other series that weren't dumb enough to do this. Negima, Kenichi, Full metal Alchemist, Seven Deadly Sins. Hell even Fairy Tail and Bleach never did this in their rescue arcs. That's a new low.
Bleach, Fairy Tail… for real, I mean for real? Look, I see further discussing with you is a loss of time, so I won't bother anymore.

Theres a way to keep those things, and not have Komatsu be a blithering tension-destroying idiot.
Alternate version: impressing Midora
- Chefs are upset over being captured, since chefs are important
- Midora goes "Lol, so full of yourselves, call yourselves chefs but I bet no one here could make something that could satisfy me"
- Komatsu steps up, can't let anyone go hungry duty as a chef yadda yadda
- Midora is impressed, laughs, you're something else kid, everyone is amazed because Midora never ever smiles, and Komatsu is totally amazing because he made Midora smile
Alternate version: Komatsus faith in Toriko
- Staajun looks at Komatsu, wonders how he can be so calm and cook so well considering the state he was in when he was abducted
- Komatsu thinks to himself that he's totally over his sadness, because he has total confidence that Toriko will save him.

You keep referring to it just being "instinct", which is the most ridiculously convenient writing-card for an author to play.
Someone is out of character? Instinct told him to act that way.
Someone says something unfounded/something they could not know as fact? Instinct told them this was so.
Someone does something outrageously contrived and dumb? Instinct told him this was a good decision to make. You can't have everyone in your series be clairvoyant. Thats Cocos thing.
Also: I really am quite certain a major part of jirous speech was "cheer up Toriko, even if you lost you gave it your all, and most importantly, Komatsu lives". And no matter how much the Torikoverse revolves around food, in this particular situation the emotions are very normal and relatable:
Komatsu was crying his eyes out at the end of the Fest because he feared for his best friends life - not because his ingredience provider might be lost.
Toriko is miserable and feels weak since he couldn't protect his best friend - not because he lost his chef and thus less great cooking can be brought into the world. -

Toriko is miserable and feels weak since he couldn't protect his best friend - not because he lost his chef and thus less great cooking can be brought into the world. It would be kind of convenient if the author hadn't already built his world around the existence of things like that (instinct, sixth sense, intuition, etc) and established the validity of relying on something like that many times over in the most various aspects and in different characters (including the voice of the ingredients). Just the other day I was rereading the manga, and after Toriko, Sanny and Komatsu pass the Death Falls, when Komatsu goes on his own, Toriko says to let Komatsu go on his own because he feels it will be alright. A perfect example of what I'm talking about…
If you really want to criticize Komatsu's decision, then I think you need to criticize this aspect of the worldbuilding altogether.
And I never said that Toriko and Komatsu don't care about the lives of their partner. That's not what I was saying at all.
-
Wow, this chapter produced really strong but mixed reactions. Anyway, just read the chapter. Yeah, Komatsu's undying lov, I mean trust in Toriko is really getting to me. It just ruined the chapter. He could've stayed out of necessity to help the other chefs or Take-chan or even "rehab" the Bishokukai. Also his Gary Stu cooking abilities are pissing me off. I would've liked Midora to first "taste" his potential in the cooking, then decide to keep him based on that, so Toriko and company will have a legit reason to save Komatsu. But it was funny to see the HQ collapse because of Midora's mouthgasm.
! Oh come on, Midora. Really? The Century soup did nothing, heck everything else did nothing but some komatsu dish made from leftovers will make you happy?
! Too bad ichiryou is dead or he could join the harem too.
at least jirou probably won't since he doesn't care about much and isn't likely to have any reasons to eat komatsu's food.I know I'm late but wait until Komatsu starts his own brewery. +1 one oldman

Manga will go on a one-month hiatus after its Human World arc ends in next year's combined 6th/7th issue on January 4. It will return with the start of the Gourmet World arc in the 10th issue on February 2.

Kill me now. Fuck.
-
! So something about lvl 6090 and 4000?
-
Hiatus? Bummer. Timeskip incoming perhaps?
-
Oh well, it's just one month.
-
One of those crittters reminded me of Cthulhu
Here´s the chinese scan [http://www.mangabird.com/toriko-263
T](http://www.mangabird.com/toriko-263)he 1 month hiatus sucks but is a good chance to reread the manga and spot the foreshadowings (something some members could use, at least from other forums, who said things like NEO coming out of fucking nowhere when it´s been hinted since the friggin Ice Hell arc)
-
Timeskip?
Welp! Lets hope Toriko can avoid the timeskip curse and doesnt drop the quality.
-
Why do people talk about time skip? Human World ended guys. It's Gourmet World time so Shima decided to have a break. He earned it. Nice animal designs by the way
-
Timeskip doesn´t needs to be something long like two years (why would it?) It could be just a couple days, maybe Toriko will wait for his brothers as to go and get Komatsu together.
-

By definition that's true, but timeskips usually signify an significant alteration in the world for the story and the characters. A few days wouldn't be a "literary" timeskip, and nothing in the chapter seems to indicate a timeskip's coming. By that definition we've had plenty of timeskips, including one confirmed this chapter since weeks apparently passed since the event of the Tournament.
With Myu with this one in that Shima's probably just getting ready to write the next stage/arc of the series but that doesn't mean a timeskip's happening.
-
I never stated a timeskip will undoubtely happen.
-
! So Jirou could take down an over 4000 Capture Level beast and a Cannon Fork couldn't do a scratch on the skin of a 900 Capture Level beast.
-
They are still spoilers guys, use spoiler tags.
-
! That ~4000 beast is an Ashurasaurus right? I wonder what is the clvl of the King Land Shark then, as it was shown to be fighting with several Battle Wolves. And the Battle Wolf looks awesome, and clvl 6000 is immense. I'm not even sure if Midora or Jirou could beat it.
-
Sorry guys, my apologies.
-
One of those crittters reminded me of Cthulhu
Here´s the raw [http://www.mangabird.com/toriko-263

Just so we're clear for people like Aohige, this is a Chinese Scan and should not be confused with a raw.
-
! And people were saying the kings were growing strong too fast, and Canon Fork did absolutely NOTHING to a lv below 1000 beast.
The Gourmet World is going to be epic.
-
@Purple:
Just so we're clear for people like Aohige, this is a Chinese Scan and should not be confused with a raw.
I know, I actually correct people when they mix raw with chinese scan. But the first thing I saw when I woke up was the scans, so I was still half asleep.
I was going to correct it now that I´m back and awake…
-
! The hilarious thing to me is the flashback the 4 beast had of fighting a fully grown Battle Wolf. Capture level 350ish versus a 6000. lol?]
-
! The capture level 2560 beast on page 20 looks like Cthulhu XD
-
@Zp1:
! Terry is hardly a year old. We don´t even know when Battle Wolves reach adulthood.
-
! aww bummer, February it is then. I like GW part of the chapter, none of the beast got hit by the fork. None of em got killed by another beast… Everything is OP as hell lol. And the battle wolf.... Majestic as fuck, with the scars and the huge panels gah. I like that the end gives a call-back to the earlier chapters, ingredientd and narration. nicely done.
! I kinda agree with those saying that there wont be a timeskip, maybe? Just a period of months or weeks, or even the next day? But who knows, toriko is super skinny now, so I guess itd take some time to revert back to kinnikuman (tho I personally dont want timeskips bcos I want to see komatsu's adventure in bishokukai hq. And more midora and zebra.) -
@Zp1:
! Terry is hardly a year old. We don´t even know when Battle Wolves reach adulthood.
! Reading comprehension plz. I'm talking about the flashback that happened during the 4 beast fight. Where the 4 beast was fighting a full grown battle wolf.
! A battle wolf that big should have destroyed the four beast instantly based on what we know now. -
@Zp1:

! The Four Beast lost each of its battle agaist Battle Wolf, Emperor Crow and Mother Snake. In fact when he was attacked by Terry, Quin and Kiss it knew their killing intent because of their ancestors (they killed it!). The Four Beast was revived so it died multiple times.

! A battle wolf that big should have destroyed the four beast instantly based on what we know now.! You need to develop reading comprehension. The four beast was revived by Mohyan. Thus, he was dead before. Thus, it is perfectly possible, like the user above said, that he lost to the four beast, crow and snake and thus remembers them. So yeah, no issues here.
-

! Reading comprehension. The last one who defeated Four Beast was Ichiryu, and then Jirou used knocking to seal it away. He was revived from that. Battle wolf and others weren't even mentioned in passing, at least when last fight is considered.
-
! Regarding to Terry's power. She doesn't live in her habitat. Remember the only meal he could eat was that popcorn-like thing. Once in GW i think she would progress much faster. AND, where is she, seriously?
! Another thing I'm wondering is if only eating other animals with high capture level increase the power of the eater? Because there is no chef in animal realms but nonetheless eight kings are top-notch. -
! I wonder who measured the battle wolf's capture level. Ichiryu ?
-
! Terry would be more than a year old, there was that year that went by after Ice Hell while Komatsu made the Century Soup and Toriko re-grew his arm. Terry should be almost two years old at least…
That took 6 months, not a year.
-
-
! Lol back then, when it was mentioned that the Human World is safe because GW beasts just don't find it tasty enough makes a lot more sense now. Even that breathing dinosaur could wreck havoc in the Human World and it's just a lvl 200 beast.
-
I wonder what the highest capture level in the series will be come it's conclusion, like, if they ever go to space etc.
-
Higher cl doesn´t always mean is tastier. The Galala Gator was described as delicious, and the Troll Kong as stringy and inedible.
-
! Toriko looks happy.
-
! Toriko looks happy.
He's so happy
! (about just how fked up he's about to get). :ninja:
