Alright, what you're saying with the pacing thing with Nui sounds fair, now expand on this bit.
All those bits with the family and Manshoku and the Elite Four. Some I like, some I don't. All come off as filler. Like they're putting them in there for the sake of there being comic relief. They don't feel well integrated into the story.
What's up with you guys having problems with this anime, it was like that from very beginning, a gag anime with some vague parts as excuses to make it look like it makes sense.
Yep, storywise I'm not expecting anything from Kill la Kill, just fast paced fights.
My point is: previous fights were so-so, but with Trigger curriculum I can only hope that they were so-so on purpose in order to prepare us for the real ones. We´ll have to wait and see.

You're crazy. Mako, her family, and the Elite Four are the best parts of the show and I've enjoyed their comical bits in the past few episodes very very much.

Don't waste your breath in this thing dude. These dudes obviously want a slow paced 57 episode series than a frantically fast paced fun one. Or maybe even a 2 season anime series that covered what Kill la Kill already did in 3 episodes.
The series looks like crap a lot more times than itlooks great, I think that sort of might attribute to some of the disappoinment with the fights, too, I guess? I think the series is fine so far, but honestly nothing mind-blowing. Apparently the "core" of it is in the second half so that's why I feel like all this is for a reason.

The artstyle is one of the things I love the most when it comes to KLK.
I think the things about the series I like the most so far are the OST, the characters(the elite 4 are particularly loveable to me) and how they handle fanservice(they're equal with it).

Yup. I love the style myself. If every episode looked like the bore that was most of episode 5(the characters were on model most of the time and they didn't push for any real dynamic shots), then I probably would have dropped it. Thankfully this show is Hiroyuki Imaishi's baby. I can't say I disliked or dropped a thing he directed.
The art style is nice and unique by itself, just that there's times when it looks pretty bad. Like episode 4. There's some well-animated bits here and there, but overall just not the most amazing-looking series. It's understandable because Trigger is a new studio and probably doesn't have that great of a budget. Considering that they've been doing a good job, the cartooniness of the whole thing helps to hide some off-looking stuff, too.
I like how the animation is really informed by the artistic shittiness of Inferno Cop, like moving around the animation cells instead of animating the characters. It makes for a really unique style that can do some cool things that more conventional animators could never dream of. Like a lot of Nui's animation from the last episode, which has this quality of being really silly and intimidating at the same time. The animation frames might not always be the prettiest things, but what they do with them is really organically fun and original.
Fanart everyone.

I actually want to know what's written.
Reading this thread baffels me. I'm considered a hater here most of the time about other series, but points people make about Kill la Kill? These are just weird.
Bad animation? This is the part I don't get. Kill la Kill has GREAT animation, most of the time I watch certain episodes a few times just to screen cap some of the poses and see how they animated a certain part. If you consider an obvious stylistic choice of sometimes moving the character cells without animating them "bad", well, it's your opinion and you probably forgot who's animating this thing and what they are capable of. This is not Toei and One Piece, guys.
Pacing? I don't think the series moves too fast. I mean, the Elite Four are guys with 30% life fibers in them, what did you want Ryuuko to do? Wait till the very end before fighting someone with about three times less (statistically speaking) power than her? Elite Four very obviously build up as an obstacle, but not some huge bosses, not at the point they are now. There's too much stuff going on in the background for Elite Four to matter as much, power wise.
Personally I'm not much for long fight scenes, that's why I'm not a huge fan of the last two or three episodes. I still love'em, I'd just like to see some more lazy stuff, go back to the family and "normal" weird school life.
And my last question - how can anything in an original series be considered filler? This is a comedy styled fighting series with some school life thrown in, how can anything be considered filler?

I never really understood people who said that. It's like those people who complained that Skypeia was basically filler in One Piece because it lacked apparent advancement of the overall plot. But those are the exact same people who are now complaining about how fast-paced everything is. It's probably just an artifact of following a serial release, since it makes the story seem longer than it actually is, but I never got why people are really plot-hungry in the first place. Plot serves the story, not the other way around.

On the right: Mako in katakana
On the left: itadaki, which I assume is just short for itadakimasu (this is said before you dig into food). It could be crown or spire or whatever, but probably not in this context.

But the difference there is that Skypiea was actually good. Whereas this whole Elite 4 thing was underwhelming.
I get where everyone's coming from, but it would have been better if it were… better. Blowing past these guys didn't serve the story.

It's a pun. ItadakiMAKO.
Is it odd to personally find the Elite 4 stuff good? Or is there some set-in-stone standard to being actually good?
Don't answer this. I clearly don't even care :3

But that doesn't make it filler. Just not good. You have every right to criticize the series, but at least recognize what it is you're taking issue with. I cannot consider anything in a main series to be filler or even filleresque, because it is still a part of the storytelling. The fact that the writers chose to make that a part of the experience renders it not filler. Its quality is subject to scrutiny, but filler is filler when it is present, but does not contribute to the canon or storytelling intent at all, like the arcs in the One Piece anime that never happened, but extend the series.
Personally, I've enjoyed everything so far, though. No complaints from this one.

A new challenger! Brief backstory! Ryuko's costume evolves to beat them after a token amount of struggle! You're left wondering if it was meant to have any impact, because they were played for the drama as well as for the comedic elements, but also rushed through without much in the way of a satisfying finish (especially Inumuta). I was at the very least looking forward to the Sanageyama fight because there was some tension to their rematch, but that got sidelined.
I get that they're not final boss material, but it would have been more impactful if it took more than one trick or ploy to take them down.
Ohhhh

Oh man that's surprisingly good. Gonna be listening it on repeat for a while.
! Power of friendship. Meh. Used in a very direct, uninteresting way, too.
! I genuinely thought Mako was about to die for a moment there. Power of friendship was sweet though. Looks like it's time for team-up.
! also the break is gonna feel like an eternity
! For some reason I was just expecting something better. It was Mako essentially Nami-slapping Ryuuko out of it. I'm kind of disappointed and really siding with the "rushed" argument now. Maybe some things become clearer once the subs are out, but it's just pretty meh to me.
Where are you guys catching it? My current host says it would be up in an hour.
There's usually a livestream for the episode, like for the OP episode every week.
I'm probably in a minority but I'm getting bored with kill la kill. The actual story is just really slow to get to anything major, despite many episodes themselves being often fast paced. 12 Episodes and it's all just battles, mixed with many funny scenes and some rather generic flashbacks of the elite 4.
80% great episode but a rushed ending really undermined the whole thing. I'm sounding like a broken record at this point but the show really needs to slow down.
100% agreed. These scenes just don't have as much impact without any breathing time.
I thought that everything wrapped up pretty nicely, even if it was a bit predictable.
I will say that I miss the goofy scenarios presented by the first 8 episodes though. Episode 4 was totally useless plot-wise, but it remains up there with 1 & 2 as a favorite of mine due to the focus on comedy. I'm interested in seeing Satsuki and Ryuuko team up to take down Ragyo, but more than anything I just want to see more random slapstick misadventures with Ryuuko and Mako, something that I worry will be in short supply as the plot continues to heat up.
But the difference there is that Skypiea was actually good. Whereas this whole Elite 4 thing was underwhelming..
That's because yo're looking at it form the wrong angle.
The way I saw it, pretty much ALL of tha main characters battles were pretty mcuh part of a long training arc, before she could fight the big bad, Ragyo(I didn't know that was her name at the time, but I DID know, form when they first mentioend the family, that THEY were the big bads, not Statsuki.
That and. . .I saw Gurann lagann. It seems to me that the cretors have been developing the elite four with the intend of them teaming up with the main character
Look at the colors they wear. . .
If you know about the super sentai thing, then you'd know what I'm talking about
But yeah, obviously Satsuki didn't kill anyone, that was apparent from the begining, and its obvious that Satsuki wants to groom the main character in helping her take down the big bad.
As the main char has a Kamui - and can use it well. . .(better than Satsuki can) its obvious that Satsuki sees potential to help her in her cause against the big bads.
but of course, the main character is weak, unexperienced in battle and would just get wiped out if Satsuki told her who the main culprit was. . .as the main character would just charge at them and get destroyed.
So yes this is a training arc. . .not just for the main character but for the "elite four" as well.
I know you've noticed that Satsuki has been
a) lenient in not putting the elite four members "on the bus" - this has been mentioned many times by characters throughout the story.
b)constantly consulting with her reasearch depertment whenever there's a loss.
it's obvious that she wants eveyrone to get stronger. . .
So yeah, the elite four arc does have a purpose and is not filler. I can tell you its not filler because they didn't go through the rematch of the blind dude again, and instead put in a glimpse of the "big bads" that the story has been leading up to. . .I"m pretty sure someone has mentioned this in some form, as it is a predictable story structure, but predictable in a good way, as it leaves the door open to provide for creative "twists" in the story.
I think it would be a good idea if you just paid a little more attention to what is going on so that you can critisize the show for what it actually does wrong - there are a few things, they do wrong, that no one really has mentioned (and I'm not goinh to start here as it will take too long to type.)
But yeah, your critisicms aren't really valid in THIS aspect of the show. (especially since they've been spoonfeeding the above to the audience the whole time…which is part of the flaws I'm referring to)

It could have been a better training arc. All I'm saying is that if you go through with fights, go through with fights. Not these aborted nothings that were each breezily solved with a Kamui evolution.
_>Berserker rage
Main character berserker rage
Main character berserker rage that turns her into a BLOODY ABOMINATION.
And then it's finished with THE POWER OF FRIENDSHIP._
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAH.
I guess I'm in the minority for thinking this episode was really well-paced. So good. So good.
Predictable episode but a bloody good time nonetheless I'd say.
I'm getting large urahara vs aizen vibes, especially from the latest developments, and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.
Very good episode. Reminded me why I should not watch a raw no matter how exited I am. The dialogue really won me over. Definitely up there with my favorites. Definately up there with episode 3, and maybe even better than that. Mako returning the favor in this manner was adorably goofy.
There is a minus that I have but I gotta rewatch the episode for several things I may have missed before jumping to that conclusion. If you want to know, it's really just me being sick of Satsuki's bloating and taunting of Ryuuko. I get this feeling she does not have anything to do with ordering Nui's assassination order on Ryuko's (badass) dad and it's transparent as all heck. I'm guessing she does not want to tell her(and the audience) too much of everything before the series is over, but their undeniable possible team-up just feels so prolonged that I can't help but want it to happen sooner.
Looking forward to the battlefield trip. (To those that missed it, there's more after the ED song)

But the "Godrobe"(lol) works like it should. Like a bloodsucking parasite that is made of 100% Life Fiber. What is there to train?
I know some of you dudes come from long ongoing series with training arcs and other typical battle manga shit that's intended to boringly drag out a story, but really. Keep that syndrome and those faulty expectations out of this series. It's not really needed here.
That was a little better than what I assumed from the RAW, but still pretty underwhelming to me. Gonna get hate for this, but it really does feel like Fairy Tail in a sense. The problem that there really isn't that much tension or a sense of danger became really apparent to me. Yeah, stuff got destroyed when Ryuuko went berserk, but there just wasn't that much weight in it to me. It just happened. Yeah, I get the problem with the fights now, too. Who's to say all the other enemies won't be defeated the same way? It all felt like generic rushed shonen played straight.
The elite 4 continue to be really amusing characters, though and while I'm disappointed somewhat of the predictability of it all, it still wasn't bad, I enjoyed it, just was expecting better.
But this sort of pacing isn't really generic. And how else would Ryuuko power up? I don't see her sitting around and studying techniques. The battlefield is her teacher. I think the important takeaway from this arc about her growth is not that she learned a bunch of new forms, but that she learned of the potential for her power to evolve and adapt. Not only that, but we learned just how fragile her power is to her mental state. This isn't something that just popped up now, either. Ryuuko's original and weaker transformation was the result of her shame. What happens when Ryuuko fights an enemy with the same potential to evolve (like anyone with a Kamui/Godrobe)? What happens when she fights enemies that can play with her psychological state like Nui? Those sorts of things are still challenges for Ryuuko.
Simple, she'll be just snapped back to reality by Mako's friendship slaps. Every time a problem came up this has always worked, hasn't it? Why shouldn't it work on Satsuki's mom?
Yeah, this whole thing was a set-up for a training arc for Ryuuko because she ended up losing control of her emotions, but for some reason the friendship thing gives me the sense that it just doesn't matter.
It was rushed, but the episode definitely terrified me. Also, Mako begin able to calm down Ryuko was already hinted after her battle against the computer guy (he's the only that I can't remember the name), no matter how generic it seems to be.
I do agree, though, that the story isn't really advancing on an usual pace, but after the very first episode we should've expected that the pacing wouldn't be normal.
Yeah, Ryuuko's "berserk" form was definitely creepy. I was reminded of the witches in Madoka Magica in a way. There's also another thing that was brought up, that is the other schools(or the Big Three?), plus the fact that Satsuki's mom really is going along with her whims, so there's a chance that Ryuuko and Satsuki along with the devas will probably end up being allied, so the whole defeat thing really isn't probably meant to be that big of a deal in the long run.
those fights really were just basically brief character introductions and not really meant to be weightful at all, but that's just assumptions.
It was explicitly stated in the end of this episode as to why the fights were held.
It was mentioned before too even, lol.
Don't really see a problem with the episode. Personally I enjoyed it greatly (was even moved to tears by Mako's dedication there). From now on it can only get better; with the whole set-up for what's to come and whatnot. Really good show.
I wish Riot of the Blood Ryuko put up more of a fight but besides that I liked this episode.

Reread it and was about to remove that part from my post. I thought the same thing myself, the reason itself has been said two times, lol. My problem essentially is that because how quick the series has been so far nothing has really felt like it has been dwelt on enough, it's just a series of events. That's what sort of started to bother me in this episode, but again don't hate it. It's sort of the Sword Art Online/Fairy Tail effect of just rushing through a story, not nearly as bad, but still starting to become really noticible.
Is elite four no longer the correct term to refer to the elite four (even thought they're called shintennou which is what the pokemon elite four are also called).

Short, sweet and to the point!

Main gripe - pacing, right?
Imagine Ryuko vs Inumuta fight lasting for 3 episodes. 3 whole episodes of typing in awkward poses and Ryuko getting kicked around the stage.
Not quite that much. A whole episode for each one would have been nice with all the hints thrown in while all of it is going on, maybe also flesh out Ryuuko's and her father's relationship a little more. But for what it is, it's still fine enough.
