Funimation DVD Discussion III (Please Check First Post for FAQ)

I'm getting gray hairs waiting for Strong World.
-
I finally saw the second disk of the latest set as well as the two commentaries on disk 1. Aside from the obvious praise for the dub, I did notice the Thriller Bark and time skip merchandise McFarland has in his office. It's cool, but I wonder if it's a good idea to spoiler stuff, especially from the time skip. Either way, I'm hoping it means we'll see season 6 soon, especially with the release dates being so quick.
-
You can't really escape post-timeskip stuff anywhere. Heck, even on FUNimation's site they used post-timeskip promo art for the characters on the One Pice 101 videos. I think so long as they don't go discussing it on a commentary or something then it's fine.

Question for anyone who knows; I pre-ordered Strong World along with an order of S5V3 from Rightstuf, so will I have to wait get them at the same time when SW releases, or will the voyage be sent on a separate shipment?
Thanks in advance.

Typically, RightStuf will hold any order until all items are in stock. However, they have this weird system of partial shipments where every certain amount of time (I think I've read every other Tuesday) they will do partial shipments on your orders. However, your best bet would be to email RightStuf and ask them if your order will be held up. Typically they'd give you the option to pay additional shipping to have Voyage 3 go out, but if you get lucky they could send it out as a partial shipment for no charge. Hope that answered your question!

Colleen posted a facebook post that says she's now in charge of special features and we should voice our ideas to her.
What do you think?

FULLMETAL ACHEMIST: BROTHERHOOD SPOILERS.
I saw this about 2 weeks ago and laughed so hard I literally fell down and rolled around. I'm sure there was only so much "on the boat" they could do. But I think some blooper stuff would be a FANTASTIC special feature. What say you all?

They've got so many requests for bloopers; let's suggest something elseβ¦
And if anyone is itching for more fun bloopers, check out the bloopers for Noein.
-
Couple of ideas I have are:
- More behind the scenes of the actual recording/editing. I want to see an in depth look at process of the actors reading the script with a view of what Mike sees on his computer. Stuff like that where we can see the technical details behind how they actually dub the show
- Group interviews. I want to see stuff like the On the Boat interviews, but with more than 1 actor. So essentially video commentaries
-
Oh wait I got another one
How about character commentary? Where the actors do a commentary on a episode but AS their characters.
-
I'd want bloopers or a behind the scenes look at recording for the show
-
I am dying in anticipation for Strong World to be released. Thank god it covers new material unlike movie 8 the alabastra dubbed movie. This series is really a fantastic series for all ages. How old are One Piece fans on here? i'm 27. Got into One Piece about 2 years ago I think. How about everyone else? I think this show is a absolute masterpiece like a lot of other anime shows out there. That is why I watch anime.
PS I would like to see bloopers too. When will they show the voice actors of One Piece on the extras menu list? I have all of Funimation season 4 but have only seen 2 episodes of voyage 1 of season 4 because i'm waiting to get a lot of episodes then watch it in one sitting. Thanks and god bless.

I'm really looking forward to the movie too, but to answer your question, I'm 22 but will be 23 in a few months. I got into One Piece 9 years ago. I'm still a fan, so obviously I think it's awesome too!
-
I think a short 5-10 minute documentary regarding any relevant topics would be cool. I think it would be interesting to see how they act when they actually record their voices, to sort of see their process. We could even get a video tour with one of the actors/ADR Directors showing us around.
And of course, bloopers.

I'm 17 but will be 18 in a few months, and got into One Piece 3 years ago.

I'm 28 and have been into One Piece since 2008

I'm 22 been a fan of one piece since July of last year

Lil Kis, that's the 2nd time you've asked the ages of people in this thread, and I can't help but feel that straddles a fine line of information that's a bit too personal. Watch it.
Everyone else, just keep your right to anonymity in mind.
-
Anonymity? Pfft, I lost any right to ask for anonymity when I registered on this forum with my actual name as my username.
I'm 21, for the record. And I've been a fan of OP since the end of 2006. -
21 as well, and have been a fan since 2009.
-
23. Since I was 16 in 2006.

-
It appears though I'm not alone feeling deja vu on that question. Actually, I wanna say there's been more than just 2.
Regardless⦠for the record, again, I'm 21 years old. I got into the series in March of 2011... no regrets.
On subject, bloopers would be the greatest extra probably. xD
-
It's the third round of that question in the past year on this thread, yes.
Anywho, I'm hoping for Strong World next week. I'm happy I never watched it; this is going to be better because of that.
That scene from the trailer "I'm gonna break you in half!" still gives me chills.
-

I'm in the same boat and am excited beyond belief to check it out and hear FUNI Brook for the first time with it :)
-
You're in the same boat? Are you sure? The Sunny or the Merry?
-
Yeah. Definitely not this week, eh? I'm going to guess for the end of next.

Looks like your hunch about a possible delay b/c of the cover art seems to be right. I hope we get it by next Friday since I get a long weekend.

Heso!
I have been out of the One Piece on DVD loop for a while. Has there been any talk about the release of the episodes after Enies Lobby?
I am looking forward to Strong World coming out. Is there any indication that the other movies might come out especially the fourth and the sixth movie?

Hesso!
Although the episodes after Enies Lobby haven't officially been announced by Funimation, we have strong reason to assume they have them. Reasons include:
- A leaked press release from when they announced season 5 which included all the way through Impel Down
- The fact that Season 5 has seen an accelerated release schedule compared to usually
- Various (recent!) tweets from the ADR director of One Piece, Mike McFarland, talking about how he was out for lunch with various OP voice actors
- A few months ago, Funimation accidentally posted something about having through episode 370something on their website, shortly to remove it
And there might be some other stuff I'm forgetting.
In terms of movies, Funimation got Movie 10 (Strong World) to see how the demand for the movies is, so the best way to get more movies to be licensed is to pick up SW! Also, the leaked press release I mentioned earlier said that Funimation had picked up the most recent movie, Film Z.
-
To add to the Mike McFarland part a bit, he's also made posts specifically referring to OP Straw Hat recording, so it doesn't mean he's just coincidentally working with the OP VA's on another title if anyone felt skeptical.
-
This is definitely the most I've ever had preordered at rightstuf. Three one piece sets and wolf children.
-
My RightStuf preorder for Akira is Reserved and the scheduled release is only 1 week before SW β¦. so, SW next week maybe???
-
Toonami and Funimation announced that they will be simulcasting Space Dandy in English even before the Japanese version! Interestingly as well, Toonami said the following:
@http://toonami.tumblr.com/day/2013/10/25:
In December, Toonami will take a break from our regular schedule and have a bit of holiday fun, with three weeks in a row of a movie special to kick off the block! What movies, you ask? Well, youβll have to wait a bit on that. :)
Could this mean they will show Strong World on Toonami? Although it is spoilerific, that didn't really stop them from starting at season 4.

it could definitely happen I'd love for them to do it
-
Wouldn't it hurt DVD sales if they did that though? I'm not saying that's what would happen for sure, but it's a possibility. I figured Funi would want the DVD to be out for a few years before letting it show on television.

I've been meaning to ask back during W7 when Luffy and Ussop had their falling out, if you were there in that situation whose side would you have taken? Or who was wrong or right in that moment?
I personally found myself taking Luffy's side. Which is probably why I love Zoros' speech about not accepting/trusting Ussop until confesses his mistake, and telling Luffy to act like a captain or he be the next to leave. Great Stuff!!!

Zoro's speeches are always the best. I really like how they force Usopp to apologize. Too bad it's too ideal to expect from arguments in real life.

definitely luffy's while his approach might have been harsh it was necessary and zoro's speech gave me chills

I was definitely on Luffy's side, but I do admit Ussop had a major lack of information, which is probably why he felt so Luffy didn't care. That was mainly because, at the time, I didn't feel too strongly about the Going Merry, which is why I thought Ussop was being a dumbass. I felt exactly like Zoro in that situation; I regreted Ussop leaving, but I hated him for his stupidity/stubborness. Keep in mind though, this was at the time.
Then the redemption of Ussop's character came as Sogeking, and the validation of his feelings toward the Merry, when I found out Ussop was actually right, which made me start to love him more than I ever had. All this, along with the fact that Zoro made him apologize on his own, made the moment when he finally rejoined the crew one of my favorite moments in the series, and one of the few times I've cried during One Piece.
In retrospect, now that I actually understand Merry and can empathize with Ussop, I honestly believe Luffy was wrong for not sticking by two of his friends (though Zoro was never wrong as a crew mate should always stick to their captain). These are some of the many reasons I love W7/EL.
Good question by the way!p.s. I actually believed Ussop was leaving the crew for good, which made all of this much more exciting!

I too have actually not yet seen Strong World. Excitement level is cranked up to 11. Also, does anyone know the special features for Strong World? Is it really just a song and one behind the scenes featurette like it says on Amazon? -
The answer to that is yes, though at this point it is not certain we'll even get the song, as its not mentioned anywhere on the description. It'll probably just be mute creditless animation.

what did you want luffy to do its not like he could continue to sail on the going merry. He should've been more considerate of usopp's feelings but he did the logical thing a captain should do in that situation
Sorry, I should have clarified more.
Right now I believe that Luffy definitely made the best decision he could in that situation and that I definitely side with him, to answer the question directly. My point later on was that I believe, in retrospect, that Ussop made a bad decision, but for the absolute best reasons, such as the validation of his dedication to Merry.
In short, looking back on it, I give more credibility to Ussop then I did then, but I still side with Luffy.

I'm hoping for at least a commentary for the film.

Same here. Just wondering, who would you want to be on the track?

Ideally: mike, Colleen, Ian, and McNeil.
More likely: mike, Colleen, and Ian. -
With the special features being revealed a few weeks ago I'd say it's more likely we wouldn't have a commentary at all. Has there ever been a case where the features are revealed for a FUNi release and something new is just added in when the actual release is out? For a commentary they'd have to had recorded it quite a while ago.
-
It'd be cool, but it would probably not fit into people's busy schedules to record the commentary for a 118-minute feature film⦠especially because they could have to do multiple takes (compare with a 23:37 sitting which is easier to fit and record again if need be)... I think it's enough we've got a Brook-centric extra.
-
Actually, the way they do movie commentaries is a little different I believe. For instance, in the FMA movie commentary, I believe Mike sat with a voice actor or two for 10-20 minute segments and rotated the actors throughout the movie. So it ended up being almost every actor who was in the movie all for short little bursts, and nobody other than Mike had to watch the entire film.
-
I felt like a commentary was a given. Don't most of their films get one? Ah well, I guess we'll see. At least the Brook extra is there.
