Spandam was the head of CP9. Lucci was just the strongest fighter.
Chapter 715: "Close Contest C-Block"
-
-
Sounds to me like this Lucci fellow was one bad apple
-
until luffy used second gear no then the third gear which was really buying time to use second gear where he took a lot of damage still when he barely did anything to lucci not in second or third
Ok so when Luffy gets beat back but gets up it counts as Lucci dominating him, but when Luffy does the same to Lucci it isn't damaging him a lot.
Alright I think we've established you're some kind of stupid fanboy who wants to have a versus discussion.

Majority of the people with brown star are people who joined 2005/2006 around the time when this forum is kinda new(check old threads you see lots of them), so what other way to promote the site but to give credit to those who joined so early and helped get the site moving.
So don't let the "good posters get brown stars"(minor) get to you, it's more like "the first members"(majority). ShishishishiAnd yeah Lucci vs Luffy is equal match. Croc vs Luffy is example of someone being stronger.

I'd sign this. Even though I want to mention that not only strenght is important in a fight, as well is determination, cleverness and the environment…
But we have had enough boring discussion about something like power levels in OP.
-
Why do people dislike this chapter so much? Its kind of annoying reading posts that are "I forced myself to read this chapter" "Worst chapter ever" "nothing interesting happened"
alkdhao;ldlkasd,mxzhncduweqw9;a
Luffy is gonna be the Pirate King! story ruined? its the adventure, people. There is always something amazing in a chapter even if it is "boring".
-
For the country he serves? Most likely no.
For the opposing country? Most likely yes.
That's exactly right. This whole discussion of who is evil and who isn't is completely subjective, and this is a perfect extension of that.
To people within the world government Lucci is most likely a symbol of absolute good and justice, but to people who have seen his more brutal methods he is pure evil.
I think he's somewhere in the middle personally.
-
The elders ordered the destruction of an entire island! Were in favor of Akainu being Fleet Admiral! Made/Accepted Lucci, the not pragmatic guy, to be leader of CP9!
None of those things really mean that they believe what Lucci believes
Equating the elder stars who by all we've seen are multifaceted and complex characters with something as narrow as dark justice is to me selling them far too short

Ew, there were comments like this about the chapter? Here? I just read it and thought it was fantastic. Tasty bread for the sandwich we're about to eat the meat of. In fact right after I read it, I read it again.

I dont know how crocodile lost to luffy, crocodile withstanded a brilliant punk from Diamond Jozu which is 1000x stronger than luffys Gear 2 Punch and back then he didnt even have Gear 2 ..lol

The strongest armour is plot armour.
-
The strongest armour is plot armour.
Well not really - On Alabasta he wasn't really doing much just basic protection against starting pirates. Then he spent a while in Level 6 Impel Down - I am guessing that hardened him up a fair bit.

@wolfwoof:
That there's a noticable lean toward absolute justice in the WG seems apparent
But Lucci's brand of dark justice seems far to extreme and absolutely not pragmatic to be embraced by the elder stars
Really? The whole point of that saga is to show off the utterly despicable bastards that run and control the World Government. Barring some huge plot twist, it's the institution of the elder stars that's the biggest, most supreme nasty in the whole series.
-

The Gorosei are extreme. But not out-and-out villains. They didn't want to Buster Call Ohara. They, in their minds, had no choice. Heck, they were shown trying to negotiate. Lucci has a lot in common with Akainu. But, the Gorosei seem more sane/reasonable.
-
From what we've seen of them they seem far more human and genuinly concerned with the balance than they get credit for
Not saying that it isn't glaringly obvious that they wish to keep their world order and the status quo at any means neccesary
But it doesn't appear that they go out of their way to be evil for the sake of it.
More often than not they are these pragmatic dudes who'd stab you or feed you depending on the situation
Doesn't seem accurate to pidgeon hole them as those guys who run their evil empire for evulz
-
They still idiots with their manegement of the shichibukais.
-
We had ten Shichibukai so far.
Seven of them had hidden agendas against the WG. (Crocodile, Blackbeard, Jimbe, Hancock, Kuma, Doflamingo, Law) -
Hi there guys, the break is unfortunate but I for one enjoyed this chapter! Sometimes it's nice to unclench your butt cheeks reading one of these once in a while :) I love the breezy moments reading this manga brings, I remember the first meeting of Buggy the clown, I remember thinking Wtf! This is awesome and hilarious at the same time, and that's what this tournament reminds me of. That, plus it's interspersed with the butt clenching goodness of DD and dour coolness of Traffy. So all in all I'm a happy bunny…...
Crap! I just remembered there's a break next week.

Luffy lost to Crocodile twice, he only finally won on the third time after Croc was battered and very tired.

Are people seriously debating good vs. evil as far as characters go? A good majority of the characters are in a grey zone. Luffy's no angel, he really didn't care about saving Fishman Island except for the fact that he got offered meat and for people like Keime and Jinbe. Bon Clay might have been a great ally but he worked for Baroque Works for god knows how long. Does this make him evil? No. There is no definite good and evil. Even the World Government that issues orders to destroy entire islands and whipe out entire peoples are doing it for "the greater good" in their eyes. That "good" might be a world that they control everything in but we've seen people like Akainu who don't want to rule but want true "justice".
Yes, Robin was an assasin. Offscreen she probably killed dozens. It's more tragic, the fact that for 20 years she would jump from organization to organization killing people in order to survive. She never pledged actual allegience to any of these organizations, she was just looking to satisfy her own needs. This "cold blooded assasin" also tried to give the crew an Eternal Pose to Alabasta very early, and later saved Luffy after his first fight with Crocodile. Not because she suddenly turned "good".
Was Nami "evil" because she stole from people? Oh they were pirates and she stole to free her village? Well now she's "good".

The 5 Elder Stars have questionable methods to keep the status quo but they do seem to have the world's best interest in mind, for the most part. They themselves want a peaceful existence between Fishmen and Humans, that says a lot.

while they want a peaceful existence between fishmen and human, it's not fro the right reasons. Not that they want peace between the two because they want to make Fishmen equal to humans and give them their rights etc but for the sake of balance and calm.

That's for me is one of the best aspects about this manga . It doesn't follow the generic "Good vs. Evil" most mangaka use. It's a lot more complicated than that.
A perfect example is the FI history where you have FisherTiger who fought back against the humans, and Queen Otohime who was struggling and taking all kind of shit for a chance of better future. Two opposite sides however you can't say for definate that one is wrong.
To try and simplify it into Good vs. Evil thing is ridiculous.
EDIT: Doflamingo speech comes to my mind when he said the victorious is the only justice

@Monkey:

it wasn't really that tired,at least not more than luffy…crocodile lost because at its third act, their battle became a melee, and that's the kind of battle where luffy shine (the only guys who put him in a tight spot in that regard are arlong, who is 10 times stronger than him by nature,so he had an extreme advantage, and lucci, the only one against whom luffy had a honest "brawl" and came of as the winner with great difficulties.
that's what i like in onepiece,no matter how strong someone is,you still have strong points and weak points..luffy almost died when crocodile could use his strong points :intelligence, logia powers(both defensive and offensive),his experience (both times when luffy got almost killed he was distracted by something)
but got the upper hand when he could just use his fists in a small environment

With the way that Crocodile was shown later on in the series like the war, it makes absolutely 0 sense that Luffy was capable of beating him to be honest. The power balance didn't really make sense, even if his will is greater than everyone else's.

Even if that's true, perhaps you can find some comfort in the fact that Oda didn't make it easy for Luffy, at all really.

So don't let the "good posters get brown stars"(minor) get to you, it's more like "the first members"(majority). ShishishishiThis is entirely misinformation so let me help you out as maybe the one person up here that gives enough of a heck to make this post, while also addressing something that was being kind of talked about the couple pages before your post.
Almost all active senior members as seen on the site have been made so in the last couple of years based on contributions to the community and has very little to nothing to do with how long they've been on the site. For example, I got added on about four or six months after I joined. For mysterious reasons. One of the first posts of significance I made on the site was about eight paragraphs of oral sex talk that had nothing to do with topicality.
All former staff members (and there's a lot) also get senior status instead of being made regular members. which adds up, and a lot of members who have been around a long time sometimes do wind up getting senior status like in 2012, or something, despite having joined in 2006.
It's a wacky system but it doesn't mean much and it's also better than reputation/karma systems, or public post counts, or something, that could be considered actually harmful to new posters or cause egotism. It should also be understood while the obvious implicit idea is that they are sort of community leaders (i.e. there are seniors that make big contributions to collectibles or information, sometimes it's just social stuff), you do not have to respect a senior member. It's not out of line to disagree with one and you don't have to be their slutty submisive M.
For example (Foolio who is one of the more active admins right now) frequently talks socially, politically, and otherwise in the general discussion area and it would be silly to not call him a big dumb baby if he said something one felt was out of line and he obviously expects nothing less treatment-wise.
Some people like """"MONKEY KING"""" and Cyan might pal around in threads like this and it may be seen as some ganging up upon, maybe they even word their stuff aggressively. But guys like the former have been around some of the absolute longest on this site and actually do know their stuff and aren't just showboating. It must also be said that he just really likes debating, or arguing, period. If he, or Cyan, or anyone else ever picked on someone and it was genuinely unjust and unfair and straight up mean, I would kill them publicly about it. Maybe I've missed something and obviously some people definitely may not care for MK, but hey
So just saying. You guys may continue on your thread now, thx for the detour.

You really think that? Ok, let's take a look at what croco boy did at the war
1- Was stopped by luffy while attempting to kill WB.
2- Was sucker punched by Jozu. which by the way Dofla had 0 problem stopping
3- Dofla played with him and if he used haki when he cut his head he may well be dead.
4- killed fodder about to execute Ace.
5- Tried to delay Akainu and failed.
He didn't fight anyone big, and just killed fodder.
So let me ask you, which part doesn't make sense?
@Holy:

Please explain to me why it didn't made sense. And I'm not being ironic there I never am.
-
Crocodile only "beat" Luffy because he was the first Logia Luffy went up against, and Luffy had no way to deal with it. He came prepared in round two and could have won, but Croc eroded the floor and sucked him dry, neither of which had anything to do with skill or strength. The third fight was the only legitimate fight, and in that fight Luffy was dodging all of Croc's attacks and skills while still knocking Croc around a bit. I also disagree with Zephos, Croc was basically in top form in round three (he took two hits in round two), whereas Luffy passed out on his way to the tomb and was at best a little rested.
Let's not make this a versus or power levels thread: Reply Here.

what have the stars to do with the chapter.
Star Envy. It's a disease. The cure is to ignore the stars.
But also you have to feel happy each time that you see a pink heart.

Hello everyone , first post here
What you guys think about bellamy?I think that he will try assassinating Luffy but change his mind at the last minute.
Not really that relevant to the chapter but wow Cavendish has grown on me a lot, when he was introduced I found him boring and uninteresting but over time he's become my favourite new character of this arc. Aside from his amusing personality I also like how he has one of the legendary swords and am looking forward to see him fight with it in Block D.

If he proves to be a great swordsman then I hope oda puts him to fight Zoro. No doubt that he will win D block, but I hope it's a quick win so we don't get 3 chapters for D block.

we are getting at least 3 chapters for D block, don't even doubt it.

It's a two-week break now. Oda's still recovering. No One Piece till August 5.

I call bullshit on that. It's coming back next week.

Spreading rumors is really cool.
-
Er, I should clarify. Yes, it's coming back August 5th. But that's only a one week break. Chapter 715 was in issue 34, nothing in issue 35 (7/29), Chapter 716 will be in issue 36 (8/5)
-
You know what, you're right. I got that completely backwards in my head.
FUNimation had just posted on Facebook 30 minutes ago that Oda wasn't well and there'd be a two-week break. https://www.facebook.com/onepieceofficial That's technically two weeks between releases, but here we usually think of these as "breaks", and this is a one-week break. So it wasn't anything we didn't already know.
Sorry for the scare. I should've looked closer at a calendar.

Cavendish needs more to him, I saw he has a meitou (I think) and could fight Chinjao. However I feel like he is missing something which I think we'll get when he fights in block D. Also I really like Bartolomeo now, when he was first hyped he annoyed me and when he first appeared he seemed like he wouldn't bring much to the table except to get beat easily by Luffy. Now that I've seen him fight and he has made a few intriguing statements about Luffy and his purpose for fighting and I really like his design.

Wait I though we'd get a new chapter 7/31? So we have to wait until 8/5 or 8/6? FML

No.
It comes out on Monday, August 5th legally. We'll get it early like we always do. So yes, July 31st.
