I think it's a weird debate and there are good points for both sides. Both Akainu and Blackbeard seem fitting for the final villain positions, Akainu because he is the Fleet Admiral and Luffy already hates him because he killed Ace. Blackbeard because he is the nega-Luffy and he is after One Piece as well, in the evil manner.
I personally don't feel like thinking it through too much, I'd much rather wait and see what Oda does.

Picking Akainu is assuming Ace is the most important thing in the story lol, I mean come on. -

Plus it provides a big final wity a villain which Luffy has conflict with. They could he about to excute Robin who want to deliver the history to the world.
-
Franky seems to have the most varied moveset out of everyone in the crew. I hope Oda continues to show off his creative skills. Maybe in the New World his shoulder rockets will actually have tracking artillery shells.

Robin's already been "kidnapped" so doubtful, and facing akainu would mean facing the wg as a whole. Blackbeard has much higher chance because his dream directly conflicts with luffy's, whereas Luffy holds a grudge against akainu. It will surely happen, but Luffy's biggest obstacle before one piece is without doubt blackbeard.
-
Am I the only one that thinks that Blackbeard will find a way to kill Shanks? Best way to get Luffy hella angry.

Their battle was set up at the end of the war, so it might happen or it might not happen as simple as that

Yes, Blackbeard will be the greatest obstacle BEFORE One Piece. But only AFTER finding it will the WG really become the target. So then the final boss could be the Gorosei or maybe Akainu.

I think the WG will be a problem before they find One Piece. There is a reason why they don't want the information to get out or for anyone to find it. If they wait until after Luffy finds it then it might be too late to do anything. Though, I'm sure they're more concerned with what's on the Rio Ponegylph.

My point is Blackbeard is the final villain of the stories main purpose, find one piece. There could no doubt be a war afterwards, but their journey will have already been accomplished, their dreams come to pass. Luffy has always caught up to and surpassed his enemies in terms of strength,by the time this war would happen (suggesting Luffy and Blackbeard fight for one piece which is the rio poneglyph inciting the finder to act and wage war) Akainu and him would be equals at the very least. While he may the last villain we see Luffy defeat, i wouldn't consider him the final boss. It's like some boxing competitions, after the main event there's a couple matchs of other people afterwards. It would be a continuation, but not main event caliber.

I would say that what comes after Raftel is damn well still an important part to the story. In fact it's what we've been building up for for the entire story.
I wouldnt say Raftel is the final point of the main story, the main story only ends after the great war and when all is said and done. -

I wouldnt say Raftel is the final point of the main story, the main story only ends after the great war and when all is said and done. It's important to us,yes, but think of it from Luffy's standpoint, all he wants is to become pirate king. He know's nothing of those responsibilities at the moment, and he needs to pass through raftel first. If they journey is point A, raftel point B, war point C, he has to go through A and B before he reaches C. He'll have different motivations and different goals in mind, the war or whatever may happen can't happen without the rio poneglyph information being found out. Finding one piece will be the peak of the series, the aftermath is important for closure but many books finish with huge cliffhangers and little closure, like luffy charging in against akainu and cut screen, series end. I wouldn't exclude the possibility.

I wouldnt say Raftel is the final point of the main story, the main story only ends after the great war and when all is said and done. But although it will bean important part of the story that doesn't mean there has to be a superstrong enemy there. Just wrapping up the storyline and letting the strawhats reunite with friends is enough to make a great final arc. And even if there should be fights against the WG it shouldn't be a close call for the strawhats. Therefore it can be said that Blackbeard is the final villain even if the events after Raftel are more important for the world as a whole.

lolll at anyone still thinking there isn't a huge major thing coming after Raftel.
Give it up already, christ. Whitebeard literally said there would be. It's over. Go home.

As Oda has already the ending in his mind I doubt that is a real possibility. If somebody gives you a choice as an author there would be no question that you don't just end in the middle of a battle. The future can be open-ended but all strings have to be cut of and the plot wrapped up. Oda even does the same with all the islands the strawhats visit so why should he do differently with the series as whole?

I agree with you and should have explained myself better. My "wrapping up the storyline" is your big thing. I also think that something big has to happen to explain the lost century. But that still doesn't necessarily include a stronger enemy than Blackbeard if Luffy beats him before going to Raftel. Or why should we assume that suddenly the WG gets more powerful warriors than the yonkou.

I think there would be another timeskip after the storyline and Luffy gives his hat away to someone.

That's only if you like to assume Shanks doesn't want it back.

So the Strawhats, leaded by "Strawhat" Luffy will have to change names when he gives it back? :ninja:
My money is in Shanks kicking the bucket before getting his hat back.

No, no, it'll be too early. But come on, the Strawhats, Strawhat Luffy, the Jolly Roger has a straw hat. You can't just change these things, it's part of who they are now. And I'm pretty sure shit will happen before he can give the hat back, as in Shanks getting killed by BB :ninja:
-
I think Luffy will meet with Shanks before he's confronted by blackbeard, but Luffy will keep the hat. It's not like he was straw hat Shanks.
-
I agree with Luffy meeting Shanks atleast once before he get killed by BB. It would be funny, if Shanks beat Luffy's ass so he couldn't take the hat right there.
-

well yeah, it'll be hard to just change the name of a crew that the main base is the Straw Hat but Luffy can also meet Shanks before any other major change happens involving Shanks and Shanks decides to leave the SH to Luffy because it suits a fearless man like him (quoting Rayleigh here) but it will be nicer If the Strawhat have a little vivre card that Shanks place there once he grabbed the Straw Hat at the war that way Nami or anyone who grap it may notice it
-
Shanks vs blackbeard and there crew fight is inevitable now where does blackbeard as a final baddie fits in because for him to be the final villain he have to defeat shanks n crew first also luffy returning hat to shanks before their fight or after or luffy saves or helps shanks in fight againt blackbeard and he says u have become a great pirate u can keep the hat or shanks saves luffy againt blackbeard and tells luffy to run and fight him back later and he dies so luffy will seek revenge againt blackbeard as well akainu in pursuit.
-
Luffy the guy who formerly owned a strawhat does have a nice ring to it, though.
-
Nah, Kidd is going to kill Shanks.

Part of me really hopes that Big Mam does something to Jimbei so he doesn't join. He just seems really unfit for the SH's. Oda tends to make boring characters more interesting over time tho so I'll wait. Maybe Jimbei will pull a Robin, he'll be serious at first but have his moments when he says something disturbing or tries to assess why the SH's are so crazy.

Like he had done several times during FI arc?

He had a couple of facefaults, but he hadn't really done anything interesting personality-wise in my opinion.

dude, jimbei is a man who will prioritize the importance of the strategy/operation name above all… he will be the serious man on the ship, the straight character like gintama's shinpachi without glasses... he's fit for the crew.

Geez, a strawhat that's serious all the time. Still doesn't sound good. The most serious people on the crew have to be Sanji,Zoro, Nami, Robin, and Franky and even they aren't serious most of the time.
-
Jinbe's seriousness is funny to me. Like him getting worried about not having a name for their strategy, or worked up over Luffy's inability to listen. And that can only develop, the way Robin's interactions did. I prefer the variety, rather than having another goofball when we already have such a good line of them. It's all a matter of taste, of course, but I can't agree with people who say he's not SH material like it's a fact, when I personally see him being the perfect addition.
-

I like her disturbing thoughts and her weird thoughts. Like when she thinks of cats in a situation or when she assesses how gruesome an event would be were it to occur(Everyone getting crushed by the Noah while underwater.) She just doesn't have as much crew interaction as the others in my opinion.
-

no, … they're the serious type, but they already know and used to each crew foolishness. while jimbei as a straightman will seriously follow it without realize the situation. well, maybe something like that…

No, she has plenty of crew interaction. That's what Jinbei doesn't have. (and is going to get, proving all of you doubters wrong)
-
Usual Robin:
Robin smiles.
Robin laughs, "Fu fu fu"Yes, plenty of crew interaction.

I think Jinbe will join the crew when Luffy matures. Right now, I think he's too busy to babysit him.

So being a crew is just about babysitting?
-

He'll join once Luffy's bounty exceeds his. It'd be a little weird for the crew's newest addition to have a bounty larger than Luffy's.

I see it more along the lines of Jinbei joining the crew after the Strawhats have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in the New World. After the Dressrosa arc, the SH will be infamous in the New World. If Jinbei joins after the SH are established as a force to be reckoned with, having an ex-warlord on the crew will seem less impressive, which is why I think it makes sense that he hasn't joined yet.

Exactly, Robin is the quiet one on the ship most of the time. She is even beat in the history department sometimes by Brooke simply because of his old age. Obviously she interacts with the crew, but doesn't have plenty of interaction.

Luffy: 30 million
Robin: 79 millionTo be fair Luffy's bounty jumped to 100m immediately after, and brooke may have superior historical knowledge from 50 years ago, before he was a wandering skeleton, but that's not Robin's expertise. It's like expecting Brooke to pull out a death metal song.

I very much expect Brooke to pull out a death metal song. Flame in his eyes and all that other hardcore jazz. I wonder if we'll ever see his underused Violin again.
-

Taking down Doflamingo might put him on par with his Father considering Don's heritage now. No more bounty just 2nd most wanted.
-
I'm sorry to be so very random, but did anyone ever ask Oda if Luffy has pube hair in an SBS? I assumed that since he's made of rubber now he no longer grows hair so that's one of his resemblances to Goku.
-

When has Brooke ever beat Robin on history lol. Fer chrissakes, your grandma was probably around 50 years ago and that doesn't mean she's an expert on what happened back then lol.
Luffy: 30 million
Robin: 79 millionLuffy was 100 million when Robin joined.
