RDG - RED DATA GIRL (First episode Impression)
Impressions Resume: RDG or the longest name RED DATA GIRL is for what I've seen a shojo slice of life anime about a timid girl that want to live a normal live, but have mysterious powers that need to be protected.
I liked this first episode and it looked a solid anime. Nothing impressed me that much, but nothing was bad. If it keeps this quality I think it will be a medium level anime and for a season it will be a good watch. My mind keeps me alerting that the first episode should try to captivate the attention of the viewers and so should try to show some real strengths of the anime, I didn't found strength in this episode and so I question if this anime don't have strengths at all or it have, but they weren't already shown.
Storytelling (rating: 60 of 100)
Story/Premise: I only seen the first episode so the only thing that I watch isn't really all the story, but only the premise. I have to say that the premise is not to extravagant, but for what I've seen of shojo slice of life, honestly I don't watched that many, is original(Timid girl with powers needs to be protected, but at the same time she wants to live a normal live. ah, and the boys mistreat her because she is timid). Fortunately for me is not a reverse harem,(I don't like harems, because until now all of them seems rather forced and don't provide nothing good to the story) at least for now.
Plot: Being the plot the way the story is told and because I only watched the premise, I will be talking of how this premise was told/showed. It was well made in a simple and effective way, it could have put more emphasis in some things, for example the fact that she have mysterious powers that she can control nor understand. But overall it was well made, I believe if the premise was a lot more interesting this plot would solidify even more that premise.
Acting (80 of 100)
Characterization: The acting was good for the most part, but it had at least two situations where characters reaction were a little over the top and not normal. One of them are Izumiku(timid girl) teacher reaction when Sagara(A friend of Izumiku's father) talked and look at her(I know that it was to show that he was pretty and that she was embarrassed when she talked to her, but it was a little over the top).
Voice Acting: I will divide the Voice Acting in the Acting part(this has more to do with how the voice show the feelings of the characters in each situation) and in the Sound part(this has more to do with the mapping of voices and characters). The acting seemed well made for all the characters and showed well what the character was expressing in that moment.
Sound (70 of 100)
Opening and Closing Music: Appropriate for the mood of the anime and good. I don't know how but I really liked the ending music, it seemed different(is it traditional Japanese music?), soft and calming.
Background Music/Sounds: The Background sounds are indispensable parts of any anime and normally are done very well and this anime is not an exception(I believe if an anime don't have good Background sound then I will almost automatically stop seeing it). The Background music is really beautiful and I liked it a lot, but most of the time was so deep in the background that it was almost impossible to hear and so it atmospheric quality was almost completely nullified.
Voice Acting: All the characters that appeared in this episode had a voice that really fused well with him.
Visual (80 of 100)
Static: The quality of the drawing were good, I have seen better, but I have seen a lot, but a lot worse. Unfortunately the cars were made in a horrible 3D, but they rarely appear.
Dynamic: The character movement and reactions where well made and I can't remember of any thing bad to say about them, it was a consistent and solid.
Overall (72.5 of 100) A Good anime thus far, but I only recommended to anyone if the person I did that were to watch many anime this season.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge (First episode review)
Impressions Resume: This anime was a super surprise for me, with the wacky and crazy premise I was expecting a bad or normal(at best) anime, but it was in fact nothing short of amazing. The premise is still wacky and crazy: A guy that is crazy for hair and of cutting it, psycho crazy, that meets a girl that nobody can't cut her hair and that is protected(or imprisoned) by an assassin organization. Later he finds that he have a Scissor that can cut the girl hair, and cut it starting a deadly game(game I believe it consist of trying to kill him and get the Scissor); but the way that it's(the premise) executed is incredible.
Storytelling (85 of 100)
Story/Premise: Really crazy, it seems the person that made it was only interested in the shock value and made it over the top. By my own experience(not that I have that much) I have been noticing that when an author is most interested in the shock value that it will provide to his audience, he/she will not put effort, or not enough of it, in the other aspects of his work turning his work OK at best, and normally bad. Everything has his exceptions and this is the exception to that rule(at least for now. It was placed so much effort in everything in this first episode, I hope that this trend continues throughout this series).
Plot: The content was shown in a simple manner. Simple it consisted of the various visits the boy does to the girl he met with the hair that can't be cut, and his various times thinking of her in his room(of course it have more than this, but basically it was this). More often than not simple means better and the decision to not complicate certainly helped to give more impact to the not so diverse settings.
Acting (85 of 100)
Characterization: All of the characters are crazy and their reactions and behaviors are over the top, but appropriate and well made in the wacky and comical context of the anime(It had a situation that it seemed a little too much, but what they were talking was mysterious so it all gonna depend on that). Kiri(The boy) is a hair cutter psycho, but besides that he is pretty normal, that his shown very well in his acting. Iwai(The hair Girl) is a reserved girl deprived of the outside world and that is too very well shown in her acting.
Voice Acting: In each situation the voice pitch of each character is well made and express well what is happening and what him/her is thinking(specially in the comical situations).
Sound (95 of 100)
Opening and Ending Song: This episode didn't had opening song(it had like 5 seconds of it when they were talking of the sponsors) so I can't say if it gonna be good or not, but the end song is really great and totally appropriate for the an end music(slow, calm and relaxing).
Background Music/Sounds: The most beautiful thing about this episode is definitely the Background music. It was a non stop sound feast that acclimatized and turned each situation into a beautiful acoustic experience. It was placed in the right place at the right moment and it ended, changing to another background sound, in a extraordinary manner, every time.
Voice Acting: The voices were all well chosen, but I think that Iwai voice is a little to much acute/pitched for my taste, but still bearable.
Visual (75 of 100)
Opening and Ending: This episode haven't had neither one of them so I have nothing to say.
Static: The characters and objects drawings are not that impressive, they are average. Unfortunately the cars are made in terrible 3D.
Dynamic: The movement of the characters and object are well made putting the overall static-dynamic animation in a good term. The 3D cars are horrible, but their movement at least is well made.
Overall (85 of 100)
This first episode was really impressive, I really hope that it continues with this great quality and that the story turns to be great, right now is wacky and well executed, but I hope that it turns to be something surprising and great that maintain its wackiness and good execution! I recommend to everyone! But especially to anyone with a good sense of humor and a love with background music(who's the crazy person that prefer silence to a good orgy of acoustic emotions?).
