I'm hoping what I say hasn't already been said on the previous 11 pages.
See, it's an interesting question to me.
Japan, and by extension Oda, and by extension everything in One Piece is largely based on the beliefs of Shinto where the term "devil" has much different connotations than it would to a person raised in, say, a Christian society. Since I'm aware of this and am not an idiot, I'm able to not instantly write off anything with the word "Devil" as evil.
HOWEVER. IF they existed in the real world alongside both of these religious beliefs, it is an issue that would definitely*been raised."Devil Fruits" would almost definitely has harsh, negative, sinful ramifications among the adamant Catholic.
FURTHERMORE, in the works, we are surrounded by people with DF powers, all of which are glamorized and we can treat this as "normal." If they existed in the real world, it would be much more like the mythos they were shrouded in back in East Blue, where they were considered so rare, it was questioned whether or not they existed. IN ADDITION TO this, the reality of a DF user would likely be akin to that of Nico Robin's treatment on Ohara, they'd be persecuted, treated like freaks and the like.
All this being taken into account, I probably would not eat one.
I would, however, go see a DF Circus.
