The Viz Media Thread

I started at Volume 65.
-
If I can weigh in here about Viz's One Piece: I don't like Zolo, Roguetown, Oh Come My Way, Teech, Ogre, or Kami. Honestly though, it really doesn't discourage me from buying them. In fact, I immediately switch the terms with the correct terms in my mind. I much prefer reading the physical books and having official translations than being frustrated over something that can be corrected by mind. I don't like reading scans due to "nakama", "Yonkou", "Shichibukai", and other untranslated terms (imo, "Warlord of the Sea" and "the Four Emperors" makes them sound way more badass; nakama is just silly) as well as the quality. Do what you will with your money, just be reasonable.
Hoping to sub to WSJ sometime soon, but I'm more interested in catching up with my One Piece collection (missing 25-38, 55-60, 64 and 65). I wish I could have gotten 32 and 36 during its initial run since they were my only missing stickers.
I'll probably order 64 & 65 this week to arrive with 66.

This is what I do. It is especially effortless with "Zolo". It's just one letter.

ONE PIECE BOX SET: EAST BLUE & BAROQUE WORKS • Rated ‘T’ for Teens •
MSRP $185.99 U.S. / $185.99 CAN • Available November 1st 2013
A premium box set that bundles the first two story arcs of ONE PIECE, one of the most beloved and bestselling manga series of all time! The Box Set includes volumes 1-23, which comprise the series’ first two story arcs, East Blue and Baroque Works. The set includes an exclusive poster and mini-comic, and delivers great savings over buying the volumes individually to make for a true pirate’s treasure for any manga fan! -
The one thing that annoys me about these box sets is that the loyal customers who bought the volumes all along don't get the "bonus comics".
Like for the Bakuman box set comes with Otters 11….so the people who bought the first 17 volumes already don't get access to this?
What would the "bonus comic" for One Piece be? Romance Dawn? Cross Epoch? Either way, it's something any One Piece fan would want to have in print. Kinda sucks for the people who paid more to buy the individual volumes all along I guess.
-
And it's hardly a deal since buying the first 23 volumes of One Piece would average out to around $185.

The price of one volume of One Piece is $9.99. $9.99 x 23 books = $229.77.
You'd be saving about $44 and change with the box set. Never mind the fact that the box set would most likely be cheaper with sales on places like rightstuf or amazon.
-
It's $5 for a digital copy, but that's only in North America, and of course, digital. It's much more satisfying with a physical volume.

I thought the older volumes were still priced at $7.95.
Okay, my mistake.

Oh no~! I just found a terrible mistake in the newest chapter! The spelling of Brannew was used when it was clearly established by VIZ in volume 12, chapter 98 that his English name was Brandnew! Oh the horror! I cannot live with such an inconsistency! 8O

poor you!i suggest throwing out your viz volumes.or giving them away!
you mustn't let such things burden you,after all:ninja: -
Flipping through Vol. 66 today I noticed that they kept in the little segment at the back where Oda talks about getting involved with Movie Z. Interesting, because Viz simply cut out all of the Movie 10 coverage in past volumes.

the English cover to Vol 67

If Dressrosa is as long as it looks like it could, I wonder if we'll get our header change then.

Looks nice. I was waiting for this cover to appear, thanks!
Finishing up vol 66, I noticed they forgot to edit a SFX on Chapter 655, p.175, 1st panel. I like to read the SFX, but I don't understand Japanese, can anyone tell me what it translates to?

Ha, I just noticed that all of Vol. 66's title pages read ''Chaper'' instead of ''Chapter''.

WTH, that's in my copy too. Is that on purpose, or did they forget to do spell check?
-
Wow. That's probably the biggest manga blunder to date.
-
Not that it really affects my enjoyment of the book or anything, but this doesn't inspire confidence in their quality control. And it's not as if they didn't have like 10 months to get everything right.

Sometimes, no matter how many times or how many people you have checking stuff, a mistake still manages to slip through. It just happens.
Especially mistakes regarding language and spelling. I mean, how many people have read "chaper" in this volume and didn't even notice the missing letter so far?

Honestly I probably wouldn't have noticed it. Since my brain has a habit of correcting words on its own anyway. It's a habit you pick up when dealing with people on internet with all the grammatical errors and whatnot.

Icv2 just released the top manga properties of the year of 2012. One piece is number 10 on the shonen properties list and 14 on the overall manga properties list. Top 10 shonen: http://www.icv2.com/articles/markets/25218.html Top 25 manga properties: http://www.icv2.com/articles/markets/25219.html

Man. Still that stupid new world subtitle. I was wishing they'd change the damn thing.

Man. Still that stupid new world subtitle. I was wishing they'd change the damn thing.
According to the One Piece podcast, Alexis the editor of One Piece at Viz has said they're keeping the New World subtitle for the rest of the series
-
F*** that. Should just get rid of the damn subtitle.
-
This post is deleted!
-
They never should have had the subtitles to begin with, but meh, nothing to do about it now.
-
I liked the subtitles when they were first around. But if they are keeping New World around for the rest of the series, it becomes kind of redundant.

This. They should change it Punk Hazard in the next volume. The "new world" subtitle works for the whole fishman arc because that was their objective. But in volume 66 they finally reach the new world, which means that vol 66 is the logical conclusion for the "new world" subtitle.
-
I dunno, I think that if they're going to keep using just one subtitle something broad like the New World one is the most fitting because they're actually in the, y'know, New World. That way we can avoid situations like with the Sabaody one which was used for two volumes that didn't have Sabaody in it.
-
I'm pretty sure they're going to be keeping the New World subtitle, hell I'm pretty sure it's gonna be a situation similar to Dragon Ball Z. in where they keep the z, to differentiate 1 half of the series to the other.
1 thing I do you suggest, or rather something that I wish they would do is have something more of like this :
New world and underneath it, it will say punk hazard
-
Nah. The covers don't need anymore clutter.
-
Plain and simple: they should've changed it to punk hazard.
They weren't even in the new world for fishmen island.
How screwed up are our collections going to look? The second half of them having that subtitle. We're the last two volumes yellow in Japanese? I've never had two volumes in a row that were the same color except for these last two.
-
Since its the second half of the series, the first have should have remained One Piece, without any subtitle, while Vol. 61 onward use the "New World" heading.
They probably realized it wasn't really working out and have decided to just stick with "New World".
-
just got 66 and 65, and yea chaper is in mine pretty strange error but harmless none the less
-

They'll look all the more uniform.
This is really not an issue. It makes the most sense, given their past experiences with the subtitles and it works.
-
What are you guys talking about? What subtitle?
-

On top of "One Piece" it says "New World". That's the arc subtitle. It also appears on the spine of the volume. Previous volumes had other subtitles.
-
_You knew how viz.
It's not really an issue to bitch about._
-
One thing I don't particularly like that VIZ did was remove the volume title from the covers, as well as give every saga it's own color. I liked seeing the volume title up right under the logo, and the shininess of the volume number and lines. It made the series stand out more from the other manga on the shelves.
-
Volume 68 is 5.92. On Barnes & Noble. September 3rd. Someone tell Amazon to meet that price.
-
Whats taking them so long to release these volumes? Remember that one time when they were releasing like 3 volumes in one month, now there like releasing one every 4 months..
Also when are they gonna make a One Piece box set. They have it for Naruto and Bleach but not One Piece…

At that time they weren't just 3 volumes behind Japan.
The best they could do right now is close the gap even further, but since there's only 3 volumes to close the gap, even if they had simultaneous releases with Japan, we would end up having to wait 3 or 4 months between volumes all the same, since that's pretty much the time it takes for a new volume to be released in Japan. And the catch up to Japan wouldn't take very long at all, since its only 3 volumes, so there's really no solution for having to wait a couple of months for a new volume.
And they've already announced at least one box set or one piece: http://www.animeherald.com/press-releases/viz-to-release-manga-sets-for-bakuman-one-piece/
-
Just got Volume 66 its pretty awesome but shame i got to wait 3 months for the next volume but i'm guessing so does japan ?
-
$185 retail listing, that means that during a RightStuf Viz studio sale + using a GotAnime membership … this should be right around $100 (and about $110 if you don't have a GA membership)

Sounds about right. It's already down to 125 on Amazon, which is a fairly decent price, actually, especially if you don't already have those volumes. 110's about the same price you'd pay for the digital version of those volumes.

Looks like vol 66 made it to number 2 on the NYT best sellers list for march 3-9

It beat Vampire Knight. Most excellent.
Wait a second, Pokemon Adventures 15? Viz is finally releasing the Hoenn volumes? About damn time!
