Nutbladder just released Episode 22.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
-
-
My problem with this week was exactly the animation, Jojo and Wham looked weird as heck in a lot of scenes, specially Jojo, Jojo lost all his bulk even(I know they kinda did that as the series progressed) for example, I actually like the gigantic Kenshiro like Jojos.
Still the episode was pretty damn awesome.
-
The episode was awesome. Since I knew that corner-cuts are to be expected, especially in an action packed episode like this, it didn't bother me at all. I was happy I could enjoy a non-stop action with nice effects (I'm talking about all the colour changes and layers of ornaments). It's quite refreshing after often seeing prolonged moments in ongoers. Granted I don't watch a lot of anime, I only follow Jojo and HxH animations now, so I miss all the action packed sequences OVAs can offer, but the memory of DBZ legacy still runs strong.
By the way, I wanted to post this for a long time, but always missed out. Spoilers for part 3 and 4! A couple pages back there was discussion about how come Star Platinum has time stop. The conclusion was that since Dio and The World are connected to all Joestars born at that moment, Dio has a bit of every stand power. I guess in a way, time stop is foreshadowed when Jotaro gets the JUIIIICE in the fight with Darby. But what hit me recently is - Crazy Diamond has the pipes on the back and block head (almost) just like The World. And that's most likely because Josuke was already born at the moment of Dio obtaining his stand. Even if no similar power is present, he still gets a connection, albeit through looks.
And spoiler for part 6! I found it funny how Dio gives Pucci his bone that looks quite 'implying', especially considering the scene itself. But now, watching Jojo face Pillarmen, I understood that this bone, picked from the forehead, is most likely a horn just like the ones pillarmen have. Dio was quite a vampire, I don't remember them showing off horns.
Most likely everyone already understood it, but I still wanted to share these observations. -
Nice episode

If I see that gif one more time

That….....looks so wrong.

The face paint makes it look like he's blushing from the heat.

I'm with you man. We of the resolute mind will not yield to perversion!

It keeps showing up everywhere I go. There must be a stand user around.

This is why… sniff I love you guys....

-
You mean [brackets]? Because !
-
Jojo was influenced heavily by One Piece anyway…
I mean really, the over-the-top with the screaming and all, it's obvious Joseph was based on Ussop and Caesar on Sanji~
Most of it really was based on OP which really helped it become popular
I'm talking about the anime.
OP came out much before.
This is obviously trolling because no way in hell can anybody be that dumb, but it's still something funny I guess.

where… did that... come from?.....

From here.
Being from MAL, I'm not surprised…

He said he was being sarcastic.
But I took seriously because that thread had a history of arguements along the lines of "well but the anime came later!"

BTW guys,DUWANG fansubs are back.
Episode 6 & 7 have been done.

You know, watching the anime has really made me disappointed about how Joseph essentially became a completely different character in part 3. I like old joseph and I get that he's going to mature as he ages, but I really wish Old Joseph had been more useful. The worst part is that even given his crappy stand, there were parts where he really could've shone but they decided to spotlight Jotaro instead. I was disappointed about how easily Joseph lost to the gambler for example. Tricks and sleight of hand were always Joseph's thing in part 2, and that matchup would've been a great way to remind us of that. It could've been one trick after another from both sides until Joseph finally outwitted D'arby, but instead he loses fairly easily and Jotaro wins by bluffing
-
There is one fight where he does his old thing though, even pulling his "your next line is…" schtick.

I'd have to agree with you. It seemed odd to me that he was so very different. Old Old Joesph I could get because that can happen to the elderly. But this other Joesph…Meh.

Yep, it's my opinon too. There's a lot of things that Araki could have handled better. Even Steel ball run could have been a lot better. It was a great read, and that's pretty intersting since I'm not that a Jojo's fan, but it has huge flaws.
In my opinion, SBR's stand were just too strange and too complicated. I understand that I was reading Jojo BIZARRE adventure, but the whole thing really sent me off. The only power I liked were Scary monster and Oyecornova power. Plus it's really hard to follow the action in Araki's work. At first, I tought it was because how old his work were, but Steel ball run is quite "recent". Certain character's design were just way too much.
Diego being able to transform into a dinosaure was really good and well handled, but his hybrid form was AWEFULL.
And Gyro's hat sucks ball. He looks way better without it.
Besides of that, I really liked Steel ball run. In fact, i find it excellant. The pace was alright, the whole horse thing was pretty astounding, Diego Brando, it ends very well ect… But even still, there's still a lot of details that could have been handled better.

Yeah, as much as people cite that battle as one of the finest points of Jojo, it just doesn't do it for me. Still entertaining, but I can think of many battles I prefer; heck, I actually liked Terrence D'arby more than Daniel D'arby. For one thing, The ripple is "perfect" for stopping water from spilling, so he should have used it, or at least had a thought along the lines of "darn, I could use the ripple to win, but D'arby would see it." As an aside, I forget, can stand users see the ripple? One could argue that the ripple is better channeled through liquid, but I think it would still conduct enough for the purpose of the game. Failing that, Joseph could have "accidentally" spilled some water at the start to use the ripple.
The second issue, besides the fact that bluffing to win has been done a ton, is that the bet at the end of the game is rather nonsensical. Jotaro bets his mother's soul for the secret to Dio's stand. That raises so many questions. How does a soul equate to the secret of Dio's stand? I can get betting a soul for a soul, but what determines the value of the stand secret? Second, why would D'arby even accept that bet? Jotaro's mother has no value to him or Dio. Third, his folding makes zero sense, since there would have been nothing stopping Jotaro and Co from pummeling him into oblivion after he lost. I still like the battle, but it gets worse the more I think about it.
Yep, it's my opinon too.
It is really sad seeing Joseph as a shadow of his former self.

I kind of liked Stardust Crusaders era Joesph. Seeing him mellow out over the years seemed natural to me personally but I can see why other folks weren't a fan of that progression. He did still have his one awesome call back moment during the Empress fight.
Though regardless of how you guys think Joesph turned out the interactions with Holly were just adorable.

He wasn't a bad character: the issue was how worthless he was.

D'arby didn't fold, he just got mind-crushed and admitted defeat in his heart.
He knew the awful things Dio would do do him if he spilled the beans, and on the other hand Jotaro had him convinced that he was gonna loose the game. From his point of view, he could fold (and lose the bet and get fucked by Dio), call Jotaro's bluff (when a man bet's his mother's immortal soul, on top of all his friends, he usually isn't bluffing), try and fight his way out (not happening), or… flip out and have a panic attack.
I'll agree that Joseph should've made a stronger showing, but Jotaro's part was good, too.
-

Oh, I can see that yeah. I'd imagine that was intentional so he wouldn't overshadow the new cast and Araki was trying to phase out the Ripple but I definitely agree with that consensus.
Still I think Hermit Purple is a very fitting Stand for him given his prediction quirk. Shame he didn't utilze more variations of that trick he did near the end with Dio where he surrounded his body with Hermit Purple and flowed the Ripple through that more often but again phasing out the Ripple so oh well.

If Joseph had cheated, he would have admitted defeat in his heart and Osiris would have taken his soul
-
You mean [brackets]? Because **!
「Video Killed the Radio Star」 you gotta have that kagihakko**
-
D'arby didn't fold, he just got mind-crushed and admitted defeat in his heart.
I get that, but the point is that D'arby would already be at Jotaro's mercy and probably be killed if he lost, even before Jotaro bet his mother's soul. Therefore, it was illogical for him to have reacted any differently after the final bet than he acted before it.
He knew the awful things Dio would do do him if he spilled the beans, and on the other hand Jotaro had him convinced that he was gonna loose the game. I get that too: D'arby lost because he thought he would lose no matter what, and he couldn't take the pressure. It was fantastic to watch him break down like that. What I'm saying is that calling Jotaro's bluff was the only action that had any chance of ensuring his safety, so he shouldn't have been conflicted in taking it.
Oh, I can see that yeah. I'd imagine that was intentional so he wouldn't overshadow the new cast
Indeed. Jotaro and prime Joseph with Purple Hermit could have beaten everyone all by themselves.
If Joseph had cheated, he would have admitted defeat in his heart and Osiris would have taken his soul
No, both Joseph and D'arby agreed at the start that, and I quote "it's only cheating if you get caught." Both of them cheated during the game, Darby with the chocolate that tipped the glass, and Joseph with the wet cloth that he used to add more liquor to the glass.
「Video Killed the Radio Star」 you gotta have that kagihakko
What does Kagihakko mean?

With several QUALITY moments and overuse of CG, I daresay this episode was the ugliest one so far. But that's alright, because the chariot race is still one of the greatest battles that Araki has written.
Are there any other fans of Straizo here? I have a lot of respect for him despite everything he did. The fear of aging just hits really close to me, y'know?

Oh, definitely. He was an excellent villain, a tragic figure who was warped by circumstance. Just like the history of the world would be different if Hitler was allowed to go to architectural school like he wanted, were it not for the stone mask Straits would have died an honorable warrior.
-
If Joseph had cheated, he would have admitted defeat in his heart and Osiris would have taken his soul
There's no assurance of that, seeing as how D'Arby cheated the whole time during poker.
Cheating isn't admitting defeat, it's increasing chances at victory.
And no one can deny that Joseph losing in the cup of water game was complete BS, hell, that's why I thought he was so confident about playing it.
Gee, thanks Obama.

There were some real highlights though.

A lot of the major QUALITY will be fixed for the Blu-rays.
They have done so far for the first two volumes. -

Yeah, when he chose the game to bet on, I was sure he'd use the ripple to stop it from spilling during his turn since we already knew the ripple could do stuff like that
-
The problem is that ripple is super flashy and easy to spot
-
I don't agree with any part of that, but since it's rather subjective I can't argue.
Of course you can. We're here to discuss. I'll be glad to read what you have to say about steel ball run. I like to read other opinion.

Well, I figured it would be pointless because it really is extremely opinionated. You say that it was too Bizarre and complicated, that the action was hard to read, that the character designs were too over-the-top, and that Diego's Dino form and Gyro's hat were terrible. What response is there except to say that I disagree?
By that same token, I'm surprised you were only impressed by Scary monsters and Oyacomova's power. I could bring up Tusk, Cream Starter, mandom, Sugar mountain, Tattoo You!, 20th Century Boy and Wrecking Ball, as well as D4C. All of which, I think, were excellent in concept, or execution, or both. But you've already seen the fights, how would me talking about them change your opinion? If your opinion was "I don't think Araki did much with the stands" or "I felt the stands weren't very original" then perhaps I could bring up counterexamples. But we're talking about what you like, so I don't think there's much for me to say, see what I mean?
-
The mess created by Sugar Mountain is probably the best "intense problematic predicament to get you ass out of" situation I've seen in supernatural fighting manga.
-
Gyro's hat is objectively awesome
-
And Gyro's teeth are objectively amazing.
-
And all "battle positions" Gyro and Johnny take on the volume covers are amazing.
-
Ok, so what do you all think of steel ball run ? Could some of you review it. Like I said, i like read others opinion.
-
i liked steel ball run. While it was harder to read than others, that's mainly because of it's monthly format meaning chapters were longer, the main characters were enjoyable and i loved the comparisons between the two universe in some characters like magenta and diego. Most stands were enjoyable, others however were a bit odd like the 11 men and chocolate disco.
I loved the plot the most however. The idea that jesus had the ultimate stand and his body parts being the reasons people unlocked there abilities was awesome. It's a shame jesus didn't actually appear to kick ass lol. Valentine was also a good villain because he wasn't evil he was just a patriot.
As for the art it is more detailed than other arcs but it didn't phase me so much, even if characters did look very similar or were unmemorable.
Overall i really enjoyed steel ball run but it's not my favorite. I have it ranked around the same as part 3 and 5 in my list of favourite arcs -
It's my favourite arc; beautiful backgrounds, a story that constantly kept me wondering what was going to happen next, awesome battles, and a balanced cast where every single character felt important. I consider it the Final Fantasy IX of JoJo, basically it takes the best parts of the previous stories and puts them together.

Is it really? I thought that was just a visual que. However, there have been some comments about "He's glowing" but then you have moments where Lisa Lisa killed that "OK" guy and he couldn't see he was hit with the ripple.
Also there's that moment in part 3 where Joseph covered himself in ripple, and you couldn't see it, but Dio could sense it.

I just checked the Bruford battle, and Bruford almost certainly saw the Ripple Jonathan used.
