Toujou won't get it the guy dances to his own tune.
Beelzebub

I really hope Furuichi and Tojou don't get any contract.
It fits Furuichi's character to just keep leeching power from skilled demons than getting a contract.
It'd be cool if Toujou's fights and him remaining in the story were all based off him just being a badass. No power ups, just training and fighting that makes him stronger. Being the only human among demons and ppl with contracts or spell casters.

Eh, I would agree except for the fact that Oga without any powers needs to always be able to match Toujou without any powers in my opinion, since he put so much emphasis on Beel not helping him in their fight.
-
I am really looking forward to whatever will inevitabely make Himekawa eventually 'bend the knee' to Beel and gain his zebul mark.
I would assume that everyone who took part in the rock paper scissors that Beel won are already considered to be qualified for the mark. So really just Himekawa and Toujou are the only people that really need any extra story if they are to get it as well.
I was going to ask what kanzaki's story of accepting Beel as king was, but the rock-paper-scissors game makes sense :D I totally forgot about that. Epic stuff. And am I right seeing a "11" on Kanzaki, so there's 10 others?
Eh, I would agree except for the fact that Oga without any powers needs to always be able to match Toujou without any powers in my opinion, since he put so much emphasis on Beel not helping him in their fight.
Agree with this.

That fight was ages ago beside he needed a cheap move to win. Even before that Toujou was overwhelming him until Oga hit him with a zebul punch. Oga without Beel is weaker than Toujou.
-
So, I guess we'll see the end of the Nasubi fight next chap. And Kanzaki kicking up his badass mode a notch
-
"Hey we did the exact same thing two chapters in a row and ended up exactly in the same spot"
Do you want to gain polls or not, bro

It's a shame the fights in Beelze, even among super powered characters, end up relying on the same kind of punches. There's very little variety.
I find it one of Tamura's weakest points; he has access to DEMONIC POWER, and so far it only powers up punches and increases speed. Oh, and it binds people, although it seems it's the weakest spell actually.
This happens with many Delinquent Fighting mangas, like Worst (although Worst has clearly superior fights), where everyone fights the same way; but here you have the chance to use creative ways to implement demonic power, but it's not used well imho. At least so far.
(Now's the time someone reminds me of chapter xxx when demonic power was used in super cool inventive ways and I have to shut the fuck up like many times before.)
-
Yeah, I was worried about that when Tamura first introduced demonic powers. That he better come up with unique powers n fighting styles or we'll end up with a generic power-up (strength & speed). It's not too late though, he can still dig into those demonic power n create something unique for "The Lord of the Flies" clan, think of it as umm.. SSJ2 / Bankai / Nen, etc. Just say that the first 'level' is just a generic power-up n get different sorts of power-up for the '2nd' level.

Ye punch me.
I punch thee back.
Thou shalt get up and punch me harder.
I punch thee again, harder.
-
Yeah, this series is even worse than Fairy Tail in the fighting department.
-

What? Beel doesn't even use da powa of friendship power ups and we always knows who will win. How can you say that? lol.
-
it is a comedy at heart though. The fighting is more of a plot point. Although i would prefer it to get a bit more unique

Umm this doesn't make any sense at all. It terms of power level consistency and no bullshit power ups Beelzebub is miles ahead of FT. However, when it comes to creative fighting styles and cool powers, FT takes the cake for sure.

Battles are very boring.Oga is no different than Ichigo with his "strategy" of getting punched and just punching people harder the next time.

Fighting is pretty much part of the story even if it's not the main focus. When Naruto has some lame gags in the series we can still say they are terrible even if it's not a gag manga.

Fairy Tail has very anti-climatic battles but you can't say that the battles are just some random street brawls except with stronger guys that can destroy buildings.I don't think anyone remembers "epic" battles like Oga vs Jabberwock in Beelzebub when it's supposed to be the biggest battle in the series to this point.
I really enjoy the character interactions and the comedic moments in the series but i just can't deny that the fighting part is just not up to par. There is a reason that the series started to sink down like a rock in the TOC during the Akumano Academy Arc.

Ichigo is boring because after years of power ups he only has one attack. Other Shinigami have spells and stuff but he never once tried to even to see if he could learn.
Oga is different because he's a brawler, not a swordman/mage/archer. Oga's fights really would only be limited to him punching things, because he doesn't have other external weapons as far as I've seen. Just his body and the power that's in it.
I can see how that could be boring, but Ichigo's lack of creativity, inately boring soul, or foresight isn't really the same as only having a limited move set.
As for Fairy Tail the battles are very anit-climatic like you said. It pretty much always boils down to someone getting sliced or punched with some sort of elemental boost. It's slighty more creative because of the genre. But I don't feel it's better than Beel.
-
I quite liked this chapter and the fights, to be honest I don't mind the basic fights in Beelzebub, the strikes feel heavy in a hajime no ippo kinda sense
-
Oga's a thug. Thug's punch.
Sometimes he drinks baby milk in order to add some variety.
Sometimes he uses the Zebub spell.
But Oga wouldn't be Oga if he didn't punch.

Luffy also has stretchy powers…Oga does not. Oga is pretty much just an abnormally strong human teenager. I'm not sure what you expect from him move wise.

You said that Ichigo was boring because there are so many ways that Shinigami know how to attack yet he only uses one move.Oga has demonic powers at his disposal so there could be many creative ways in using that power to make interesting moves other than punching harder and moving faster.
And Luffy with his stretchy powers would probably just be an uncreative brawler like Oga if Tamura was handling him.Especially since he is rubber he would be using that as an excuse to have him take blows.

It's difficult to argue Luffy/Oga style because they aren't even remotely in a similar universe setting. I would say by default Luffy wouldn't be uncreative because he's always default stretchy, so his fighting while stretchy would come into play either way. Ichigo/Oga style is a better format for comparison because they are both set in a regular world that has super natural elements. Bleach however has a wider range of powers we know they can use in that Universe. Yet Ichigo only sticks to to sword slashes with bigger range or speed depending on if he's panicking and gone to Hollow mode. He's had so many training arcs and learned nothing. Oga has had…1? And that was mostly to use the super milk time.
I don't recall anyone other than the spell casters who aren't contracted to demons using anything other than a punch. We haven't, as far as I know, been shown anything the could indicate Oga could do completely non brawler based moves.
-

This is the essential point, both OP n Beel has a splash of battle genre to them. And in a battle manga, I feel it's very important to have a well-defined power system. N by power system I mean the source n variety; a very clear example of this is OP (source: DF with varied powers), Toriko (source: gourmet cell with unique power), even Kenichi (source: training of various martial arts).
If apply this to Beel, we can see that Tamura has established the source of power in this series, which is Demonic power. But he never expanded on how those powers really work, if he did, we might've gotten interesting n unique uses for those powers

Exactly.
There is a supernatural source of energy in this series but it's not developed at all.We have a fight with a Spell Master right now and the only thing he does is punch harder and move faster.
-
I have no problem with their being no established fighting styles or unique uses of demonic powers or w/e other magic. To me Tamura's done enough in explaining how certain things work as far as cursed paintings, magic contract tissues, spell masters, baby demon milk and demon symbols.
I've always approached this manga as one in a delinquent fighting type setting like Crows or Worst but with a huge supernatural edge and I've never lost sight the intent of it all was comedy. Not some epic adventure or action packed story where the protagonist has some goal. The way I see it even with the demon stuff fights come down to who has the greater will and then when we get to the next arc where opponents are on a different level there's some training or a power up is given and Oga just reestablishes his greater will to win.
-
I think a good example in one piece of a brawler is Monkey D Garp. We only have seen a couple of moves. Punching a wal, a canon, luffy,… and him trowing canonballs. Does this make Garp less awesome? I don`t mind Oga only does punching

uh huh
That's fine and dandy, but doesn't change how boring this chapter was.
It's complete rehash of the last chapter.Simple fights are fine, just don't bore us by repeating it oh I dunno, a WHOLE ONE CHAPTER LATER. -_-;
-
My problem is this page:
http://www.batoto.net/read/_/159993/beelzebub_ch195_by_red-hawk-scans/9
This page made me go: "Oh my god, shit's about to get real! Prepare for badass stuff incoming!".
What did he do? Punch Oga pretty fast and strong.
He did one interesting move nullifying Oga's seal stuff on his feat he uses to propulse himself, but that was left quite ambiguous and without any fanfare at all; in fact, I might be assuming he did that.
Also, being called "Spellmaster" and just punching people is kinda. . .meh.

I didn't think the chap was boring so we can disagree there. Repeated some things, sure but not boring not with that dialogue.

At the end of the day you gotta be fast enough to pull off these spells to slow Oga down and they apparently don't work for long on him so might as well punch him while you manage to be faster than him.
I can appreciate avoiding some of these drawn out tactics in an actual fight and that's what was going down. Any of that other stuff like when that one demon basically stalled with his specialty of making the match some game show instead of an actual fight was put in the light of being a complete joke.

It's out.
-
this chapter is really cool…Nasubi lived upto his 'Naruto' status...he can produce 'clones'....
Beel's finishing was superb too... -
That was a nice finish and all, but 600CC… Did he just use more power than when he faced Jabberwock? If so, that's just overkill... although that's Oga too...
-
Kage Bunshin no jutsu.LOL
Looks like the school will be destroyed again at the end of arc. -
Kind of shocked the school wasn't destroyed. As for the whole cc power up. He might have been more powerful, but he still held back and refrained from using emblems or anything other than regular hand to hand fighting.
-
^Oga probably held back and contained the damage to that room. He still has others who think they can dethrone him.
This chap was really good. LOL @ fusion and kage bunshin no jutsu

I don't care much for these new characters, but
I APPROVE OF THIS DEVELOPMENT

not to be an ass, but what was funny this chapter? We had one "joke", which was these two red tails reacting to the guy melting, but that was pretty much it.
-
Not many jokes in this chapter itself true, but Body Switch shenanigans are sure to occur down the line. Thats the development I talked of.
-
…..... boobs.
.............................boobs.
I seem to have forgotten whatever else happened in the chapter.
I will LMAO if Beel-in-Oga realizes he's still wearing those cumbersome clothes and strips completely naked, sending Ringo into panic.

! Child-rearing queen? Pretty cool i guess.
Looking forward to the fight ahead. -
I liked the picture of Ringo dressed I guess like that woman from FLCL.
-
I think this chapter is lack of humour and somehow feels so short. :ninja:
-
Oga-baby hitting furichi was funny hahaha.
-
…eh :/
Ringo being some manipulating minx really isn't as interesting as say, Nasu who kinda reminded me of the joker, but I'll guess I'll take it.
No real comedy again, just build-up for the coming confrontations.
At least maybe now we can have the rest of ogas group finally not being completely oblivious to everything demonic, what's with Oga switching bodies and Nasu multiplying before Kanzaki and the gang being confronted by people who are spellmasters. Probably the only thing in Beelzebub that is actually pissing me of. -
It bothers me too that nobody ever realized about demon in their world.
How could they believe that some kind of flu or shit (I forgot what it was) gave Furuichi power-up to defeat Kanzaki, Himekawa and Toujou? -
Good chapter. I guess we will see a small Red Tail flashback in the next chapters.
-
@Massimo:

How could they believe that some kind of flu or shit (I forgot what it was) gave Furuichi power-up to defeat Kanzaki, Himekawa and Toujou?Well, tbh, a weaker scrawny teen suddenly beating up other stronger bully teens is far more believable for an average person than "well I gots dem Devil POWAs."
Nasu's spells however, is a different story.
-

well yeah I guess that's right.
but still after all that has happened they should have at least suspected something.and another thing I suddenly remember.
Where are those bad ass old men who had short fight with Behemoth?
