Pretty great episode. Was surprised the duel happened like 3 minutes (minus the opening) into the episode. Still wonder why the others couldn't use Spike to send a message to Celestia.

I assume the fish bowl was blocking that?

Funniest line in this episode was:
"The great and powerful Trixie doesn't trust wheels."

Yeah, I think it's safe to absolve her of all blame this episode.

I assume the fish bowl was blocking that?
Would be nice if they said as much.
Also I love how apparently Equestria has no means of communication with the capital outside of one baby dragon in Ponyville. You'd think they'd have some transmission crystals or some similar pseudo scientific bs.
Because, ya know, Luna. Actualy probably the better choice to go to this episode, because of the whole "being possesed" thing. Just sayin' ~
-
Originally it was going to be 'pegacorn'.
And honestly, I prefer the former even though it's a fan-made term.
Its actually a real term. The horn itself and the substance it was made of was called alicorn as far back as the 1600's.
Its just the one the fandom latched onto immediately for the horn and wing combo. And since its what EVERYONE used, the show writers went with it.
Pegacorn would be the more or less made up term… plus it doesn't sound as good since its just smooshed together.

And it does sound like something you buy when you go watch a movie.
Still weird how outside of Celestia and Luna we only ever saw one Alicor if I remember right, in Twillight's kindergarten flashback, and that might have just been an accident on the animators part.
-
Pretty good episode, i liked the fluttershy & pinkie character humor.
Nice to see Zecora again, too.@No:

what about princess cadence?

@MDL:
what about princess cadence?
Well she did slip my mind, realy.
But outside of Royalty I meant. And by that I mean 3 "people", all females.
-
! Seriously though, where did Zecora's magic come from? What are Zebras capable of!!?
[hide]
I just figure she's the Snape of the series. Potions and all that.Highlight: Fluttershy, Trixie, Twilight being a dick until you realize it was a pretty good trick, the facial expressions (especially Trixie's jaw drop), the gags, Pinkie trying to sing with the instruments even when she doesn't have a mouth (at least something about her body language telegraphed that), and this was an episode that was built around (kind of) tension and not some morality tale. This has to be one of my top five favorite episodes of the series, if not my most favorite.[/hide]

I'm mostly scared of the implications of a filly to stallion spell being thrown out to the general audience.
And the horrified look Applejack had on her face.

You mean mare to stallion.
And, well, Applejack was just acting.

Acting sure. Still a look of horror.
Many evil dark fandom things will be born from that.
They already existed WITHOUT encouragement!

From everything I've seen I think Twilight's family are some sort of nobility. They live in Canterlot, sent their daughter to join a unicorn school that apparently is located in the palace, and their son became Captain of the Guard and married an Alicorn princess, who used to be Twilight's foalsitter. The talents and merits of of Twilight and her brother aside, their family must have some sort of rank.

I feel… stained, by having seen this.Lol, I'm gonna be seeing PSY in concert in two days, this is great~

I was lucky to get these variants of the first issue of the comic:
I would love to have this on a T-shirt. There are a few other variant covers I want for the first issue. Well, just two really. I plan to get the Larrys Comics and Jetpack variants of the second and third issue. I'm also thinking of the Gangnam Style cover as well. I'm gonna go into bankruptcy soon with all this Pony stuff.

oh and apparently thanks to Bronys, the Hub was named Best Network for Family Programming on Adweek...
http://www.adweek.com/news-gallery/television/hot-list-2012-television-winners-145611?page=1&js=1&view_name=news_gallery&view_display_id=node_content_1&view_args=145611&view_path=node/145611&view_base_path=node/145611&view_dom_id=1&pager_element=0#best-network-for-family-programming-12The best part is that Thanks to the fans The Hub's profits will raise from from just $350, 000 in 2011 to a projected $37 million this year, per SNL Kagan. Yikes! Now if that doesnt prove the almigty power of MLP:FIM I dont know what does!
-
@No:
Why ?
It was a failed attempt at comedy.
-
holy geez the first issue had 19 variant covers. Most of those were store exclusives (they must have bought a ton of copies) but that's just… ridiculous.
-
I want that snowboard Dashie or the superhero Dashie…
decisions decisions...

!
! that reminds me, pinkie didn't have any lines in trixie's first episode.
so…how did trixie know about her hyperactivity and loud mouth, or even acquire a grudge against pinkie at all?
because from the way she insisted on shutting up pinkie, you'd think that she knew what pinkie was like.
but how could she? they'd never conversed before that moment. -
Just got my copy of Season One but it came with a cracked case and the part that holds the discs in place was broken off. So I have to send it back. Hopefully Amazon will give me a replacement with no hassle.

I wouldn't worry about it, Amazon usually takes EVERYTHING back.
Once, I ordered a book without knowing that my mom had already bought it. So I sent it back.
A book. Which I could have read during the time I had had it.
I sent it back not because it was damaged, but because I didn't want it.
No problem at all.–- Update From New Post Merge ---

that pony reminds me of the scholar dude in the cartoon Sagwa.
also, am I behind in online lingo? what is headcanon?
-
also, am I behind in online lingo? what is headcanon?
An idea, belief, or aspect of a story that is not mentioned in the media itself, but is accepted by either the reader themselves or the fandom in general. If it is confirmed by the author of the story, it becomes canon.
straight from urban dictionary~
-
so….derpy would be headcanon?
-
I'd say she's canon now since she's had a speaking role and is in every episode now

This post is deleted!

Canon is what has actually appeared in the show, (or general official licensing, like a comic book or novel spinoff written or approved by the show's creator) or been specifically stated by the creator, to be factual or true. There being a grey pegasus with yellow hair that moved furniture was canon in season one, it appeared in the show. If it appears in the course of the series, regardless of how much you like or dislike a development, its canon.
(Arguments can be made if the show's creator leaves or if its bad spinoff product or if there's a really terrible story turn to accomodate an actor leaving or something. "We don't count season 3 because it was terrible." But generally, if it was on the show everyone has access to, it happened.)
Fanon is what the fandom at large accepts to be true, even if its completely made up. Derpy having the name "Derpy", loving muffins, delivering mail and travelling through time with Doctor Whooves and possibly having a little sister, are all made up fan facts, but are so widely accepted its pretty much widespread fanon, so universally known that most fans would get what you're talking about.
Personal headcanon is generally a small detail or scene. Something that rings so true, that you accept it to be the case, even if it makes no sense or even actively contradicts what happens in the show… usually an obscure little thing that most people won't know about because its a personal insight... but often when shared will cause people to go "Yeah, I'll go with that, that makes sense." Derpy's cutie mark actually being planets because she's the first pegasus to fly into space unaided doesn't make much sense, but feels SO right for what the community has decided for the character, I've personally chosen to accept it.
Ascended fanon is when the fans create a piece of trivia for something the creators themselves haven't really thought about, and they run with it because… why not? Derpy's name in season 2 became this when it was actually stated on the show. However, her being a muffin loving timetraveler is still just fanon.
(This has actually happened with a lot of background ponies in MLP. Fans name them something that they consistently agree with, and they get used. Just not when licensing already had a name in mind. DJPon3 and "Time Turner" are major examples... since they obviously couldn't call him Dr. Whooves... but they're acknowledging it.)
Then there are cases where the creator of the show leaves, or the show is cancelled, but they continue to provide information and insights long after... even if the actual show continues and has contradicting information. This is generally taken as word of god. They're the creator of the universe, what they say gets priority over anyone else, (even those idiots who made that final season that everyone tries to ignroe) since if the series ever came back as say, a spinoff or comic book, they would likely incorporate these elements into the ongoing story. This is where you generally get little details that just would never fit into the actual narrative… Oda's SBS in One Piece is full of this. Particularly so in his case, since OP is still ongoing and often little SBS details make it into the story later. (Especially things like the explanation for guys breaking down doors then repairing them, or Enel having an afro) Greg Weisman and Joss Whedon shows are also pretty well known for this, since they tend to have long running arcs and plans that go way further than their actual shows, but talk a lot to their fan community.
There is of course also when new material in an ongoing show completely destroys what the fandom has built up as their idea of things, and suddenly all the fanfics and fanarts made over the summer become outdated.
And of course THEN there's shipping.... but thats a whole different can of worms.
In my headcanon after they defeated Discord, he showed up again shortly afterward with a mariachi band and completely played straight the scene from ST:TNG.
Because he totally did.
Pinky would probably have fun messing with head canon.
-
In my headcanon Discord didn't get urned back into stone and is now Gilda and Trixie's wacky roommate

@RobbyBevard:
since they obviously couldn't call him Dr. Whooves… but they're acknowledging it.
Well technicaly isn't it a different name that's only based on something that is obviously a parody of the original ? So in theory shouldn't it be legal ? I mean, yes I know they want to avoid conflict, just asking if it's theoreticaly non infringing.
-
Doctor Whooves is pretty damn close to Dr. Who.
Better to be a name they can own whole cloth than be a parody… especially since the character existed before the fandom named him and doesn't have any of the actual DW connotations in the show. Time Turner as an official name is a pretty good nod.
-
or they could just spell it Dr. Hooves. Who and Hooves are 2 totally different games imo. at least time turner sounds cool.
