What does this have to do with anything? You can't discuss something if it's old?

That would imply that he was actually far, far, far weaker than Vegeta and the rest when he arrived at the scene and was merely hiding this by having KK10 all he time, which would make his return…pretty darn unimpressive, and for a series that excels at the "miraculously empowered hero has arrived to save the day and hype you to the edge of your seat" trope, that would be rather uncharacteristic.Also:1)Why would he be feeling all that amazed by his power up?He was utterly impressed with his latest jump in power and stated he didn't think he could power up this much. Why would he feel so exalted by a mere boost of over two times, when he had previously powered up by much greater margins?2)Furthermore,why would that make him so confident? He could sense Ki of combatants while he was in the healing tank,he would have to know just how laughably outclassed his new "amazing" base PL of 200 000 would be.Yes,he has Kaioken, but that's a move that requires lots of energy, imposes massive strain on the body of whoever uses it,and, supposedly, can go very wrong in numerous ways if you aren't careful enough. That thing works as a trump card, but if you need it just stay in the same league as your opponent and the guys you're supposed to be saving, then that doesn't really inspire confidence. Finally,if Vegeta can waltz into millions from a near death Saiyan power increase thing, then why must Goku be stuck on 200 000?
Exactly. Vegeta jumped from 250,000 to over one million from one Zenkai so why cant Goku?

My impression was he'd gotten comfortable using Kaioken without it straining him at all, allowing him huge instantaneous boosts. Like when he fought Raditz his base was 300, but it could jump to 1,200 when making a fireball. Or when he was fighting the Ginyu force he kept it down to nothing and unreadable because he kept spiking it so fast… or raised his power to double what Ginyu expected he could put out based on his action thus far. Naturally increasing his power at will, plus kaioken bonuses when needed.
I assumed it was the same with others. Able to make concentrated fireballs strong enough to hurt Frieza that hit a million+ in power, but not actually at that strength themselves. (Since Frieza was faster than all of them and would take whatever they dished physcially with no problems... it was always the energy attacks (the ones he didn't just deflect anyway) that bothered him. and was COMPLETELY toying around with Goku for much of their early fight. "Here, no hands!" )
But hey, I'd misremembered Goku having the intermediate step of x10, so it's clearly been too long since I actually read it.
Just... go with whatever math makes sense to you. Toriyama never gave numbers after the "one million" announcement and didn't know himself how the multipliers worked, so... it is what it is. Everyone got way stronger fast.
Besides, Goku's power at that point is clearly 73.6 flargnoofles.
Alright guys, all these power levels aside, check this out:

The most I got out of that was Krillin with hair and in his old Kame uniform.
The most I got out of that was Krillin with hair and in his old Kame uniform.
That, and Goku standing on a cliff.
Still,we can now atleast deduce that this will be set around the Buu arc.Actually,it would be good if this were a film adaptation of the Buu arc, instead of another lame movie where some random villain shows up for everyone to fail against until the miraculous Goku,in all his miraculousness, destroys the villain with a determined attack.
Only if that miraculous attack is a fist through the chest.
power level discussion in the year 2012? Way past cool!
It is even more miraculous if a cool dragon flies out of Goku's fist and goes through the villain's chest. Also,Vegeta gets terribly manhandled and Piccolo gets manhandled even more terribly, maybe after bringing some fresh Senzu beans and saving Gohan. It will be Godku and only Godku who will set things straight.Even if it's the concentrated power of all the Z fighters,it will be concentrated in Godku's fist to defeat Broly!
Speaking of Broly,am I the only one here who hates him with a passion? He's like the walking embodiment of all the negative DB stereotypes…maybe minus the padding, because that can't possibly be embodied in a character.
Broly was great for a single outing as THE Legendary Super Siayan and all the Vegeta drama. (And I saw it years ahead of the american show getting there, so it was a SS showcase of characters like Trunks who hadn't even appeared yet stateside. it was special like that.)
But god was he terrible and redundant in the follow ups.
there are so many dragonball films i don't even know which ones are supposed to be mamma jammin'
I guess he was sorta cool in the first movie as an evil Super Saiyan, even though his personality is that of an overgrown schoolyard bully and his reason for being obsessed with Goku is monumentously dumb.So basically,he is more obsessed with Goku than Naruto is for Sasuke, because he got woken up by Goku's cry in a nursery when they were newborns? How the hell does he even remember that?
But afterwards,he turned into shit in his second movie and then literally turned into shit in his third outing. He lost whatever personality he had and his vocubulary regressed to a single word of "Kakkarot".In Bio-Broly,we have him in a form of a clone who then promptly transforms into some murderous fecal monster.
Despite all this,he is crazy popular.Way popular than any movie villain deserves to be,to the point where he,as far as I know, got shoehorned into a DS game that covered the Saiyan arc.
@The:

Your mileage will vary on the movies depending on how much you liked the show… and now that the entire series had long since come out, the sheer visual of the characters going Super Saiyan isn't an event in and of itself... so they've lost something special they once had. (And I've personally seen them for 15 years, so...)
But movies 4 (Lord Slug) and movie 11 (Bio Broly) are without question the worst of them.
[hide]DRAGONBALL
The Legend of Shenlong/Curse of the Blood Rubies
Sleeping Princess in the Devil's Castle
Great Mystical Adventure
Are all okay comedy adventures, nothing special.
The Path to Power
Basically a retelling of the first arc crossed with Red Ribbon. Fantastic animation, and if you're just in the mood to see the first 10 volumes very loosely condensed into 80 or so minutes (ditching a few characters obviously), its pretty great.
DBZ
Dead Zone
World's Strongest
The Tree of Might
Random adventures that take place around the Saiyan saga. And have songs in them. (Don't try to make them fit continuity though, they won't.) All the secondary characters get to do something (lose mostly) there's some decent comedy in them, and a pattern of the dragonballs actually being used, Piccollo saving Gohan, Krillin getting beaten and asking "Why just me?" and Goku saving the day with a spirit bomb emerges.
Lord Slug
Awful flik. Made during that brief period where the animation staff didn't actually know what a Super Saiyan was yet. But the Abridged version is pretty great.
Cooler's Revenge
The Return of Cooler
The first is basically a toned down Frieza saga in 40 minutes, (And for that reason bores a lot of people nowadays) and the second a follow up to that. Second has a couple of great moments… but largely those rely on Vegeta revealing he's a Super Saiyan. And an actual legitimate unwinnable desperate situation that's probably my favorite in the entire franchise.
Super Android 13!
It's… an androids movie. Which this time, hinges on how cool it is that there's THREE super saiyans! Some fighting in the city. Great entrance from Vegeta. Some fun interplay with Chichi. "My hobbies are reading and sports!"
Broli
His first appearance, and the only good one. The crew recieves a stomping unlike any other, and Vegeta gets a lot of angst time. Its longer than most of the movies too, so it gets a little breathing room. As far as I'm concerned, the japanese title on this one is still the proper title… Burn Up!! A Close Fight - A Violent Fight - A Super Fierce Fight!
Bojack
The entire secondary cast gets to goof around and have fun since Goku is dead. The start of Mr. Satan hijinks in these films. Kind of a recreation of the end of Cell saga.
Broli 2 and 3
Sequels that weren't needed. The third one is especially bad, as its a broli clone that turns into a poop monster or something. And in both cases its Goten and Trunk dealing with it rather than the adults… which really really undermines the overwhelming threat value Broli has in his first appearance.
Fusion Reborn-
Goten and Trunks beat up Hitler. There's some other fun moments too from other characters making cameos, but… really that says it all.
Wrath of the dragon
Takes place at the end of the series, and actually tries to tell an emotional story with character growth and stuff! A good closer.
Then there's the tv specials. BArdock and Trunks, both of which were quite good. Also, A Hero's Legacy which… took place 100 years after GT and Fouced on Goku the fifth or whatever, just wandering around interacting with stuff. I only ever saw that one raw, but... eh.[/hide]
Overall, any of the Dragonball movies are fine, and the first three Z films are okay outings. 6-8 are the strongest of the Z movies in varying ways, and 12 and 13 are decent finish. The Bardock and Trunks specials are really good.
With any of them though, they were at their best seen around the proper time and place in the story, and seem really weird when they make huge deals out of certain powers and abilities that were really common later. A HUGE deal was made about going super in movies 5-8, and I think a spirit bomb was the resolution to 4 out of the first 8 movies.
I remember the first time a buddy of mine and I saw the Bojack movie. When Gohan pulled off the final attack we both said at loud (and hilariously, at the same time) "that was it?". Otherwise it was an alright movie. Silly but there's nothing wrong with that every once in awhile.
Also Goku cheated the rules of the universe with zero reprecussions. Gotta love that~

You mean wrath of the dragon?
You mean wrath of the dragon?
That's… totally what I said. No copy and paste errors here, no sirreee!
Wrath of the dragon had pretty cool animation, but I kinda hated how Goku was leagues above everyone else. It was annoying against Broly, considering Gohan was probably already stronger than him during that time, but here it was just stupid how he withstood 100 times more shit while in NON SS3 state than both Gohan and SS3 Gotenks, both of whom got OHKO'd. I know Toei used to fap to Goku every damn movie, but that was pushing it.
At least Gohan got the (by far) coolest action scene of the movie when he fought the giant monster's legs.
And I always thought the DB movies were funnier than the DBZ ones. Legend of Shenlong had quite cool action, Sleeping Princess was really funny and had the coolest villain, and Mystical Adventure was quite a clever rewrite of almost the entirety of DB except for Piccolo (and it was tons of fun). And Chaotzu as the absurdly childish and naif emperor with master Crane as the evil counselor was freaking hilarious.
Oh, and in every one of those 3 DB movies, Yamcha appears and wins a fight. I shit you not. And he even got to use a THREE SECTION NUN CHUK during 5 or 6 seconds in the first movie.

And in the manga that was Chapter 100. What a way to show your readers you care.
Which DB movie was the one where a character (I think Broly?) was hyped as being super-strong, to only die at the end with one powerful hit?

"Has anyone ever told you 'Uncle!' No? Didn't think so."

….All of them?
All the dub clips being posted in here make me sad. Guys, if it's anything but Dragon Ball Kai, just say no to the dub…
But all this talk about "Power levels" reminds me of when I was little, watching Dragon Ball and Sailor Moon on Toonami...
Well, if we're going to make Yamcha jokes…

you could say the same for every movie bad guy lol.
The DragonBall movies themselves aren't really anything special. They are entertaining. And really that's all they need to be. We all know that Goku and or Gohan is going to be the hero and any effort made by any other character is fodder.
The stories aren't the best and Mister Satan automatically makes the movie better.
Kanzenshuu has added an Animation Styles Guide. Updates will come on Mondays, but so far the general stuff is there and a page for Maeda Minoru's team is also up.
a 37 second trailer AND english website for the new movie!!!!!!!

37 seconds of cgi
Culminated by Goku standing on a clip.Looks like the movie is gonna employ CGI alot. Also judging by the chanting in the soundtrack, they want to make this one "epic".
I hope the artwork on the site isn't what the characters will look like in the movie. It may be nitpicky, but I'm bothered by the fact that Vegeta is wearing his Cell Saga clothes. And Trunks and Goten haven't changed a bit since the Buu saga. I know we don't know how long after it takes place, but I'm still worried about that. That last special, took place two years later and everyone looked the same. What I liked about Dragonball is that the characters always changed.
Toriyama's message confuses me slightly. I thought he wrote Goku & his Friends Return?
Chances are that trailer's animation won't be in the film at all.
As for Toriyama writing the Tarble special, nope. Koyama Takao wrote that. Toriyama simply supervised a little, like he is doing here. Watanabe Yuusuke is writing this film.
I'm not sure where else to comment or ask, so I'll try here…
I saw this clip while searching for something else.
Anyone here heard of it? Or know if the manga version exists yet? I'm curious about a lot of stuff in it…like the blue green Namekians.
I'm assuming there's an English version of the site because DB is so popular here, and because I'm sure it won't take FUNimation long to get their hands on a dub.
Also, whose going to perform the score? These are questions I should take over to the Kanzenshuu forums.
I didn't see it on the English site when I checked after my post, but I was talking about this when I posted that:
I thought it was also on the site..

Isn't that the MMO? A timeline was posted here a while back that explained everything.

Nope, that clip is an opening for the Korean Dragon Ball Online MMO.
That last special, took place two years later and everyone looked the same. What I liked about Dragonball is that the characters always changed.
The characters in the buu arc are pretty much at center ages where they wouldn't change that much in two years…. aside from Trunks and Goten.. and seeing as how both their fathers were very short until they reached adult hood, their height wouldn't change much either.
Akira Toriyama supervised a lot of the movies didn't he?
I find it funny that he acts senile during interviews, yet when he wrote DB Online he literally remembered everything he did. (EVEN LUNCH gets an honorable mention as setting the world record for prison escapes)
I think he's just toying with us, and that makes his interview with Eiichiro Oda even more hilarious when I think about it.
Oda: "I liked Pilaf, and this robot design! "
AT: "Who? I drew that?"
I have to wonder if Toei will ever give Krillin a victory against a fodder opponent and not act out of character by charging at him head on. C'mon Toei… just this once... please?

Would you mind providing a link for that? I had never heard of it, sounds awesome though.

"Supervising" is a title the anime production give the manga creators to sound like they were heavily involved than they actually were, since no official movie credit is really applicable.
It mostly amounts to them saying "yes, that sounds fine" and MAYBE providing some character designs or a rough idea. (Toriyama "supervised" all the character designs for GT but no one ever brags about his involvement with that.)
Their actual involvement is pretty low. Though OP and Naruto's 10th anniversary movies DID get more creator involvement than usual. Oda actually writing Strong World is crazy.
Since Toriyama is retired and not doing anything else, his involvement may be much heavier on this film than normal… but really, its been 20 years and he hasn't done much storytelling since then.
I find it funny that he acts senile during interviews, yet when he wrote DB Online he literally remembered everything he did. (EVEN LUNCH gets an honorable mention as setting the world record for prison escapes)
Or perhaps that was something created over months of time and there were other fans and project assistants there to keep track of characters and details and ask him "then what happened?"
Toriyama was absent minded. He forgot things and never sweated the little details. thats what the fans were for.
http://www.thegrandline.com/odainterview.html
literally the first link on google. lol
edit: Touche Robby, that's also very possible.
But seeing as he says he wants to act like a "senile old man"… I take what he says with a grain of salt.
Toriyama's Contributations to the Animation.
I'm pretty sure Toriyama didn't write Dragon Ball Online. The writers in Korea probably sent over their ideas and Toriyama said "that's okay."
The characters in the buu arc are pretty much at center ages where they wouldn't change that much in two years…. aside from Trunks and Goten.. and seeing as how both their fathers were very short until they reached adult hood, their height wouldn't change much either.
I mainly meant them two. Seeing as how Gohan changed so often when he was young, I don't see why they shouldn't.
And I don't only mean aging. Some got different hair cuts or new clothes. Krillin went back to wearing his fighting clothes, but if I remember correctly Yamcha strangely went back to his Cell design.
HHmmm….I'm curious as to what the story is like for the DB online game now lol. Shame we didn't get it over here.

Well then by all means give it a try, you can play the Taiwanese version right now, but all they have is an in game menu patch. (Something like Hackshield prevents them from translating in game dialogue.)
I believe the Taiwanese JUST got flight too. I'd also recommend trying to join a party if you can… because the red ribbon mooks can do a crap ton of damage if they use rage.
Doing a worthwhile bump of the thread to say… Gueeeeeess what's getting a Majin Boo arc after aaaaall?!
http://www.kanzenshuu.com/2012/11/06/dragon-ball-kai-continues-but-not-in-japan/
We knew for a little while now that the main cast has been hard at work recording for something, but were left in the dark since they straight-up said it wasn't the new DBZ movie. Who could have predicted it'd be the rest of Dragon Ball Kai?
The weird thing is that despite it being produced, it's apparently not going to air in Japan. Not yet, anyway. Most people are saying it's become one of those situations where overseas markets end up prompting continuation, like with Ultimate Muscle or Sonic X. So long as FUNimation gets a hold of it (if they haven't already) and gives me the the improved new dub of the Boo arc I've been dreaming about since Kai was first announced years ago, I'll be happy.
