Knowing Daz, he'll probably dislike it for other reasons :ninja:
Hey now, I know it might not seem that way, but I'm not a mindless hate machine. And unlike Bleach, which I bash for the sheer joy of it, with Toriko it's just due to dissapointment. TLC actually put it pretty well, but I realize that that point of view isn't exactly popular in this thread. So I'm not going to waste my energy tearing into this chapter, but will just leave it at
- Teppei not being spontaneously sacrificed I approve of, but now the imagery from last week loses all of its impact. Before you could argue on whether Teppei dying was appropriate or not but at least agree that its a shocking, visually striking moment, but now? If You reread it, the most "impact" it will have is "heh, I remember those few days where we thought Teppei was dead". Only he wasn't, so the only merit left to that scene is the actual drawing.
- Mansam being able to take on the 4 beast and choosing not to for the sake of training seems shockingly irresponsible…but then again the ethics of the Torikoverse are completely noncompatible with our world, so thats not something I'll get worked up about.
Really, the only reason I've complained so much this arc is because Toriko has so much potential. But Shima chooses to write the story as just the bare bones of plot progression, and not hang any meat onto it. But I want the meat! Keep all the major events of the Drum arc intact and shave it down to half its lenght, and it wont even be half as good.
"We need a doctor for Nami! climbs mountain. A weird Raindeer appears! Oh, suddenly an evil king shows up, Kugi punch, problem solved. Raindeer has micro-flashback, joins, he was called Gol D Roger, arc over. Phew, about time too, it was what, 13 chapters?"
I know Toriko appeals to those who just wants the opponent of the arc to go down, so the arc can end, so the next arc can start, so that it can end, so they can go to Gourmet world, so Toriko can get beat the Bishokuya staff, so he can launch a 1000x kugi punch at Midora and get God so the series can end. But I'm reading manga in the present, and I'd rather get my entertainment from story as it is happening, instead of from crossing out items on a plot-checklist.
