Okay, writing her name in the same bombastic subtitle format that Oda's been using since the Post-Marineford arc in the scan's kinda cute.
One Piece Film Z (Wrap Canon From the Manga Not Yet in the Anime with Spoiler Tags)

-
Ok, this is unexpected. Makes you wonder how exactly it'll turn out.
-
I suppose this is one of the songs, "Bad Reputation" that will be used as a theme
And I've been hearing "How You Remind Me", the 2nd theme, could be a cover of Nickelback's song.
Thoughts??
I'm thinking one will be used at the start of the film, and the other for the ending….
-
Umm….I am kinda...speechless.
This is the very first time I can recall, a NA song being featured in anime....
Please....dont let Avril cosplay...PLEASE!
-
That's a nice twist! I quite like Lavigne so really looking forward to hearing new songs! :)
Edit: Err… it would be really weird if they used something old? O_o Especially a Nickelback cover?.. That song was quite popular here like 10 years ago XD
-
HOLY SHIT!
This is so..so…unprecedented!!
-
Thanks Kaze, it's about the TV "prologue" I guess ? (new costumes too, it seems)

Eden of the East's opening was an Oasis song if I remember correctly.
-
I've got another couple of examples :P
Paradise Kiss ED
Hanada Shonen Shi OP
-
There's several instances of not japanese songs used on different anime. Granted, it's not a usual occurence, but it does happen from time to time. Like MasterKingJC shows you, the JoJo anime is one example. Also one of the Pokemon movies had an english theme, "I will be with you" sang by Sarah Brightman and Paul Stanley from Kiss, of course.
-
I don’t know how to feel about this. I tolerate Avril but if the songs she is going to sing is ‘How you remind me’ and ‘bad reputation’ then that’s going to be an issue. They just don’t fit one piece at ALL! Ok, maybe Bad Reputation if done right but How you Remind Me most definitly is NOT a one piece song. Ugh, I even wonder if Avril is even a fan or doing this to make quick cash, pissed off fans be damned?
Sorry for the rant but as a one piece fan and an audiophile, I couldn’t keep my mouth shut on this. -
i found this thing on tumblr!!!!!

Now that looks like it could be a TV special.

Great, maybe they'll bring BOSSU back
-
Oh don't even go there.
-
Eden of the East's opening was an Oasis song if I remember correctly.
but oasis rocks Avril lavigne it's soooo NOT ONE PIECE!
i dunno i will wait to hear, may be it will be pleasant who knows?
it's quite a shock but with one piece music we had everything, like korean boys band so yeah :/i'm loving their new outfit so hard too!
can't wait omg that movie is killing me! -
I understand some of you don't like Avril's music (I find her so-so, but I do have a few songs I like on my I-Pod), but this could help give One Piece more exposure in the States and I'm all for that!
And regarding the scan for a possible TV special… FRANKY'S HAIR.
-
I wonder how this is gonna turn out…
Then again, I guess she does know some Japanese...
!
So I guess she could sing both Japanese and English versions of whatever she's doing so we'd get an English version whenever we get the dub over here, if we get it.
Still don't know how to feel about this though.
-
Wasn't Yes British?
…and Araki's taste in music is so much better than Oda's,it seems.I mean, seriously.
-
Well, I don't really know much about pop music aside from the laughingstock meltdowns, so I'm perfectly willing to bite my tongue until December 16 or so. I'm sure that plenty of the Japanese pop songs I've heard over the years for anime openings can be just as questionable to the Japanese ear.
-
oh god what
16chars
-
Wait…I'm confused. Is Avril making new songs for one piece or are they just gonna use her old ones? Or are they remixes....or...?
-
The last time Oda liked an artist, he made him god in the story; I wonder what he'll make Avril…
Also, that scan for the possible special is awesome (I thought Nami was a Robin clone, though). Franky's mane looks metal.
-
Well, according to Anime News Network, the announcement says Avril *Lavigne is a fan of One Piece, and also, Oda likes her music. Apparently *they exchanged letters:
"According to the magazine, Lavigne herself is a fan of One Piece, and One Piece manga creator Eiichiro Oda *is similarly a fan of Lavigne's music. After an exchange of letters and *music between the two sides, the arrangement for the two theme songs *were made" - Anime News Network….....................
Well um.........ain't this a bitch. O_o
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
Well at least it's not Justin-fucking-Beiber so it's cool I guess.
-
Heh, if Avril's a fan, I don't see what the issue is. I like Lavigne to a certain extent, so it doesn't really bother me at all
-
Umm….I am kinda...speechless.
This is the very first time I can recall, a NA song being featured in anime....

Ergo Proxy's ending was Paranoid Android by Radiohead
-
Lol awesome, bring this shit on. Plenty of japanese openings are already sorta vapid and easygoing so as long this one sticks out then I'm all for it.

I wouldn't care if it was Justin "fucking" Bieber. You know what's worse than all his fangirls? All the overdone lame-ass JUSTIN BIEBER SUCKS OMG I HATE HIM etc. comments. Like, seriously, are you going to rag all the time on some random dude making music? He's not even that popular anymore, I don't get what the big deal is.

_Eww omg pop music!?

I am truly dumbfounded by this. The fact that you would combine the bar none most popular Anime in Japan right now with a washed up North American singer who sold out from being a punk artist (A mediocre one at that) to become your run of the mill pop artist is truly aggravating. What makes matters worse is that Lavigne's versions of "How You Remind Me" and "Bad Reputation" likely will not simply be relegated to a track that plays during the Credits like the Red Hot Chili Peppers were in the first Live Action Death Note Movie. These will probably be right smack in the middle of the action. I can see it now. The Movie opens up with some light-hearted fight consisting of the Straw Hats kicking the asses of some random Marine grunts and "Bad Reputation" kicks in for the entirety of the "battle".
Another disturbing part of this story is the fact that Eiichiro Oda is a fan of Lavigne and from the sound of things, seems to have picked her himself to do the music for this Film. Now look, I know that we should probably all respect the creator's wishes and at least pretend to think that he knows what type of music is best for his franchise. But come on now, One Piece music is supposed to be "Stuff sucks sometimes, but we can push forward and be happy because we have dreams, pride, friends, and Shanks is awesome!". Not, "I have a bad reputation because I'm a slut".
It's just not fitting for One Piece and makes me fear for the upcoming DragonBall Z Movie in March. I know that this addition of Lavigne seems to be Oda's doing, but considering that Toei is seemingly attempting to make the new DragonBall Z Movie a counter to One Piece in some ways (Such as the original Authors being involved), I'm just afraid. I mean, what's next? DragonBall Z with music by Britney Spears? If that were to actually happen, NO ONE is ever allowed to say ANYTHING ever again about the random Rock songs that FUNimation threw into some of their DragonBall Z Movie/Special Dubs.
So, to close things out, all I'll say is that although this is disheartening, I'm certainly not going to let this ruin what is shaping up to be an otherwise fantastic installment in the One Piece franchise.

Oh believe me, he's still pretty damn popular. Hell, some people out there still call him the Micheal Jackson of the new generation for fuck's sake which irratates me to no end. And yes, I'm gonna keep ragging on his ass cause I just don't like him or his music. Got a problem with it? Well I got news for you:
! ![](http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o319/joesephes/Nico Robin/DEALWITHIT.jpg)
Now as for Avril, I don't have too much of a problem with despite that I don't like her music either.

Would the bubblegum pop music be better in language you didn't understand?
-
Lol if you let bullshit like that (idiots calling him the MJ of the new generation) get to you.
I just don't care about him or his music. I don't dislike his music nor do I like it, but I have to admit his newest album is not that shitty. Obviously people like you are so affected by him you have to mention him all the freaking time and talk about how shitty he is and how he's ruining the music industry or some other shit like that. The "haters" can be just as annoying as the mindless fangirls, and that's saying a lot.–- Update From New Post Merge ---

Good thing its not some Baka Gaijin round eye singing that pop fluff, otherwise I would be so mad.

Plus I never said he's the worst music artist I've ever heard in my life as I have heard MUCH worse shit in my day. I just think he's one of the most overrated.
Edit:
Btw, I find it funny that you put me in the same catagory as the rest of the JB haters as I don't do stuff like making death threats to him or some stupid shit like that. That's like saying all the fans of JB are beiber fever freaks even though it's not true at all
-
Would the bubblegum pop music be better in language you didn't understand?
You missed the point. It's not the genre of music, but rather the choice of artist (Someone who can't decide what genre she is) and the lyrics themselves (Specifically with "Bad Reputation").
-

Because that's a legitimate reason for an artist being terrible. Look, Avril isn't my cup of tea either, but she's certainly on par with whoever Toei would have hired to make an ending credits theme. You are making an issue out of absolutely nothing.
-
but both song are covered song right?

Have you heard her pop music? Her voice is not suited for the type of music she is trying to put out now. Her voice is extremely strained sounding and is definitely better suited for the Punk/Rock thing she originally did.

I don't bother listening to artists I don't particularly care for so I really wouldn't know what her recent stuff sounds like. Regardless I trust that she is able to compose a peppy pop song about pirates. If not oh well, I rarely watch the credits anyway. This is a complete non-issue.

She's not composing a song about peppy pirates. She's singing two covers songs. One of which is a song about a girl who has a bad reputation because she sleeps around. In addition, there's no guarantee that the music will simply be in the credits. There's a chance that they could be used as insert songs.
-
Avril Lavegne? Wow, I didn't see that one coming. I bet the Japanese fans will eat that up, for some reason.
I don't really have an opinion of her personally, since I don't really listen to her music. But I figure she's thought of the same in the states as most of the pop singers who did the other OP music are thought of in Japan. OP has always been fine with that, so it should be fine with this. This time, the biggest music critics will probably be us English speaking types, and I'm sure Toei is happy with that.
The most interesting thing to me is that she's apparently an OP fan. If she's written letters to Oda then it's probably true, so more power to her. She'll take it seriously, so I'll have no complaints unless it's used poorly.
-
Do we even know for sure if those two songs are the ones being used, or are they just part of a ''this is a sample of the artist's discography'' section of the scan? I'm really doubting that the songs, whether they're written by Lavigne herself or by a studio person, will be insert songs at any rate.
-
Hm, really? Well, I can honestly say, with all honesty…
I don't care much for Avril Lavigne, but her stuff's on par with the crap songs that are normally in OP, and I actually like Bad Reputation, so it's all cool. Hopefully this gets One Piece some more exposure amongst North American fans.
-
I'm sensing much "weeabooism" is this thread. It's kind of sicking, especially since we have heard the finished product yet
I kind of like Avril and I also like the fact that she doesn't turn up the autotune like 99% most US pop stars do today.
Furthermore, I think its great that One Piece is continuing to branch out into other music genres as it always has, unlike other animes that use the same J/K Pop boybands over and over again.
-
I was surprised to hear Avril Lavigne having a song for One Piece Movie Z
Skater Boy was one of my favorite songs from Avril Lavigne
