it's always been Square (Enix)'s thing to re-invent the game each time, because face it, people would get bored of the original tedious battle system already.
No, we won't. We really seriously won't.
That's the problem. Everyone thinks change is good for games. That's retarded.
"But Greg! What about RE4 HUH!????"
RE4 is an amazing game. But it sure as hell isn't Resident Evil. It just happened to be an amazing new kind action genre. It's fantastic! But aside from a few familliar characters, it sure as hell isn't anything close to what RE was.
You know, I couldn't care if SE slapped FF1-10 in a bag, shook the shyt out of it and gave us what came out of it as a new game. I like the games because of what they are and how they work not because they're "state of the art in originality". Hell if I wanted an 'original' RPG I'd go play some 3rd party developer's game.
Now don't get me wrong. I am all for slight changes. Look at 10! Characters aside I loved the system after I played with it.
Here I've actually played 12 and felt my eyeballs rolling into the back of my head through respawning repeated-texture dungeons and CRAZY menus popping up all over the place in real-time battle. It's like a MMORPG. Now that's great for a MMORPG but Christ, this was supposed to be the return to the series roots after 11's oddness.
In a nutshell, a perfect score for this does not bode well for traditional FF fans. It just lets SE pat themselves on the ass and promote more "Taking it to the next level!" jackass attitudes.
Mark my words, if this so-called 'updating' continues, by FF20 we'll be blasting zombies in real-time with shotguns in FPV.
