I've thrown a cool $25 wad in the general direction of his royal Hussieness. Some of those higher price reward tiers are a bit tempting, but I have an overabundance of targets that deserve to feel the sting of my cold hard cash.

Some of those teir prizes are insane. But yeah. I'm surprised how quickly the funds are going up as it is.
-
I died laughing at the God Tier prizes
Pay 10k to get your fan troll in the Homestuck canon!
Pay 100k to see them survive the first panel!

@The:
I died laughing at the God Tier prizes

I laughed. SO. HARD.
And yet I'm waiting for someone to pay for it.
-
My friends and I were joking about putting somebody we know who loathes Homestuck into it as a fan troll who becomes the canonically most important character
But
I do think on general principle this is kind of bizarre. That somebody can put up a Kickstarter for a game and include no information on who they are working with, show no possible build, prototype, development plan, explanation of their monetary goal, or basically anything at all except "Homestuck" and "game". And then get half a million dollars instantly. The people get swag for their time and the money they're giving to the Kickstarter helps fund the prizes amongst other things, but it's a completely blind gamble.
Like, on principle alone it's kind of unacceptable as a Kickstarter plan? That there's nothing remotely concrete about it? And people really have no idea what they're funding?
I know Hussie is basically a trustworthy guy, so it's probably guaranteed to get worked on to the best of his abilities once the comic is over, but that's basically all it rides on, that hey you like Homestuck?
Well HOMESTUCK GAME! Two years from now! I guess!
It's kinda surreal that that's enough to make 500,000 dollars
-
I figure he's good for it. If not, I burned a $25 pyre to a writer who's work I enjoy quite thoroughly. No big loss.
People who paid more are probably just happy that they're getting a load of cool merch early.
-
It's more that nobody has any idea what they funded than whether it'll ever see the light of day, since that part is guaranteed. Whatever it is. It's all up to the imagination now!
I dunno the whole situation is just really silly to me and I think it really shows that the internet is dominated by a bunch of optimistic kids who really will literally throw money at their interests
I just wish he had more to say than "My name is Homestuck and BOY do I have a HOMESTUCK for you! Coming 2014" But like I said and you said, all the merchandise probably alleviates any doubts about whether somebody wants to contribute or not so shrug. We'll see
In 2014
-
I don't know if it's just me, but I'd rather hear details about a game DURING development rather than a whole list of things that could be interpreted as false promises that do not make it into the final build. This is something that Hussie probably wanted to peruse for a really long time now(it was hinted before), so I see this Kickstart as something that could make that all the more possible.. whether it bears fruit or not. By those merits, I'm still going to donate for it. The webcomic has already proved to me how much one and an art-team can do with the medium. In both art, story, and as far as foundations can go for an actual game.
So yeah, I don't see any reason to be pessimestic or bitter about this.
-
I guess the hook is since Homestuck (and all the MSPaint comics) has always been sort of an extremely elaborate and convoluted parody of adventure games
and Hussie says the various adventure segments he's done up commanded all of a week of his time,
The idea that fans can finally play a straight-up Homestuck video game is p much DA DREAM!!!Could stand to be a little more clandestine than "i know a guy,"
but considering Homestuck's rabid popularity if this turns out to be just one big swindle I'm 100% sure Hussie will be found hanging from a noose in a tree, riddled with knife wounds,
and surrounded by the blood and fluid soaked feltforms of what police could only describe as "the weirdest fucking muppet orgy since that Uncensored Team America DVD came out." -
I don't know if it's just me, but I'd rather hear details about a game DURING development rather than a whole list of things that could be interpreted as false promises that do not make it into the final build.
Ehh, "they can't lie to you if they don't tell you anything" is more about entertainment though, where the interest is in seeing how somebody develops a product that they already went through a variety of blueprints and kinks to get to (seen off camera). I don't think finances should work in that regards if something is kinda risky and if it was anything else that'd be weird (Hypocrisy: I am an asshole who would give money on a whim if the odds seemed that it would at laest come to fruition, because I like gambling, but that's my personal preference because I… like gambling)
But that's why Crowd Funding is bizarre/neat/hilarious/interesting.
And what makes this whole ordeal just that to me is just that it's such a substantial amount of money and there's no information about it because it might not even be at that level yet, where a single sentence "what if Homestuck had a game" is funded entirely and then, with the budget, everything else comes in to place. Such as who the hell is even developing it in the first place, whether it's a new "company" that comes together to make this, or what. There's just nothing else to it. A dude said that single sentence and got apeloads of cash and he didn't have to even say anything else, or put any effort into it
Because it's funded by quantity of small denominations (people giving 10 dollars or so) there is no real investment by the investors, in a sense, and they are free to invest solely in an idea. Because they're just curious, CURIOUS about what might happen if hey, you get a million dollars to develop something because I liked your previous work. They aren't even looking for monetary returns, the return is entirely founded in entertainment which is ungodly inexpensive and for 10 dollars whatever product comes out of this might be enough, especially if they're a fan.
People can kinda imagine it at least which also probably helps since ^– what Jon says and it's enticing enough to push that curiosity a little more.
Edit: Oh I just looked now and he does confirm he has a developer he's working with? I wish he'd say a bit more but shrug
-
Um, maybe I'm not grasping your views as much as I should be.
Or maybe I don't care much for what the other donators are probally thinking when they did contribute.
It's not quite my place to speak for them. It's a huge fanbase afterall.
But hey, "Du fans are expecting something out of nothin! What a bunch of pawns that hav nothin better to do wit monies".
^ (-_-) zzzzzzz -
I don't think we're on the same page but that's ok since I'm just talking as an observer
-
What is your page exactly? In a few words.
-
But hey, "Du fans are expecting something out of nothin! What a bunch of pawns that hav nothin better to do wit monies".
^ (-_-) zzzzzzzHey that's putting words in my mouth. Meanie!
Not a single bit of my commentary has been attacking anybody or criticizing anything whatsoever
UNTIL YOU CAME ALONG CUZ NOW YOU'RE MEAN!
-
I'm not saying you were.
I was greatly exaggerating a reaction. -
Eh, I donated $55. I figured Hussie's earned at least that much from me (as I'm not the ad-clickin type) and If I get a signed poster and in 2 years a "free" game and soundtrack? Awesome.
All I hope for is a view at what Sburb would be like minus the involvement of Lord English/Doc Scratch. IE: a normal game with an actual end to the given quests specific to the planets/ classes and resolution to the Prospit/Derse stuff. Those elements were always my favorite parts of the story (I'm fairly certain I admitted to as much back when Jane's game section showed up).
-
And there you go.
The goal has reached.
This is amazing. -
As if we needed anymore evidence thsat Homestucks fanbase was certifiably crazy.
-
Crazy awesome, you mean. 8D
-
On occasion , but I'm with the Beast on how crazy it is that we know next to nothing about the actual product and Hussie has already raised over 700,000 dollars.
-
The fandom has faith that Hussie will make it what it needs to be. This isn't just some guy who was all "hey guys I want to make this game…or something?". We've gotten tastes of what we could expect via the comic itself, I don't see why we would think this'll be terribly different from the John, Karkat or recently Meenah segments (maybe Jane's too, but I'd prefer less so than the others').
-
I totally get that, I just find it funny, and a bit endearing.
-
I will only be scared if anyone actually touches one of the $10000+ rewards. Those people need some kind of help, the least of which is financial. Luckily for them, they don't exist yet.
-
I'm already scared. 3 people donated 5k.
And I thought I lived in an age where people with that much money had no time for online comics.

Too late

$10,000.00
One of the $5k gifters must have decided "wait, why spend a mere FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS on a webcomic video game and assorted paraphernalia,"
"when I can spend a year's tuition at a midlevel college to having my fantroll die in one panel."
Truly, we live in a world of excess: I don't, I can't even. This is something else.
-
Pffffffft.
Love how the goal was reached in only two days. -

Wow. I really hope that single donation is like a collaboration account for quite a few folks.
I wonder if Dante Basco donated at all?

My thoughts too. I actually haven't read any Homestuck since…the end of Act 5? because I was losing track of the story and it was getting kind of up its own ass even for my tastes, but I've already spent over $100 on his printed books so it's not like a $25 investment for something sight unseen is going to kill me.

Does anyone have an MP3 download link for Eternity's Shylock. I would listen to the thing on YT until it's out on Bandcamp(is it yet?), but EndlessYT is just a waste of resources.

Update: Ball dropped.
John is growing up. -
Isn't he 17 by now? And he STILL hasn't learned that Vriska died? Hussie I need more content!
-
He's 15 now I think. Or still 14 till later in Year 2.
-

No it's his birthday again, so he's 15.
Like the comic said 'when is it not his birthday?' -
The most shocking twist thus far…
! can we expect John to pull a Gamzee and start killing people now?

What made you reach that conclusion? We still don't know how hard he'll flip on Terezi once he learns she killed Vriska!

Well Gamzee freaked when he finally saw how lame his "Mirthful Messiahs", but I was only joking.
Also I highly doubt John would be angry over the news of Vriska's death.
Even when he saw Jack standing over his Dad's corpse he looked more sad than anything else, if he won't get angry over that than why would he get pissed about Vriska? Especially when there was an good reason for why it happened. -
Man I hope this Midnight Crew stuff gets sold in the store one day: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/14293468/homestuck-adventure-game/posts/306017
-
So the kickstarter hit a million.
I really REALLY hope that Midnight Crew card deck is available for purchase in the What Pumpkin store. Its the first thing I've truly wanted to spend money on (the Scalemate plush is cute, but thinking realistically, I wouldn't put it anywhere)
EDIT: GAH! beat while typing!

EDIT: GAH! beat while typing!
Heheheh the MC is worth highspeed excitement. And the cards are really tempting. The pins are nice too, but too generic looking for my tastes. I wish they had something like the guys' hats or weapons or candy or something like that behind the card symbols or in them.

I wonder when the next update shall be?

I wonder when the next update shall be?
Updates every weekend.
I wonder if Kickstarter could reach $5 million USD by the end of the month?
-
No way… I doubt it reaches $2 million.
-
I think the issue John is having is more that now that he's lived such amazing fantastical adventures, the reality of the movie seems that much fake to him. Nic Cage can't compete with Sburb.
