GG, most epic scene ruined due the pathetic use of different music.
One Piece Special - Episode of Nami: A Navigator's Tears and the Bonds of Fellowship
-
-
Time for fights now, i want to see Ussop's one badly :P
-
So that one commercial right before the "March to Arlong Park", with all those non-Japanese speaking Japanese about bug spray…that was...different.
So far I'm loving this special, good pacing, and now we know were all the good animators were being used while the TV series has been going to shit.

Disappointed in the march, but other than that, the special has been great so far.
Let's see how the fights play out.
-
Guys you sure Toei did that, I can't believe they did somthing like that, its look like other studio took One Piece and did it mature.
Never seen so much blood and power in the episode before in One Piece.
-

Like o-chan said, the best animators did this while the others took charge of the weekly episodes. The difference is really big, yup
-
So no Overtaken during the March on Arlong? My interest in this just decreased exponentially.
-

Did the use the movie 10 "march" theme? 'Cause if that is it, it was more than appropriate.

I don't see why Toei wouldn't animate this, but are you saying the style is fitting or contradicts the series. If anything it's like they applied the animation standard from Movie 10 to this special especially with the hair highlights and skintones.

The march need close up shots of the individuals of the crew waking instead of of a side shot of the whole crew plus they cut out the line of Arlong making fun of how patetic that Zoro's crew, Yosaku and Johnny makes my feel disappointed. The general darkness of the sky isn't really impressive.
Edit: There's no underwater scene with Luffy, Sanji just saved his ass.
-
So now that they finished the special, the good animator's will go back to the series?
-
Ughhh Now I remember how I hate commercials :getlost:
-
So they cut out the underwater part.
Would've wasted too much time anyways. -
Woah. What. They skipped the entire part of Luffy getting stuck underwater and Genzo etc helping him breathe. Sanji kicked smash the rock his feet were caught in above ground… That's uh some pacing
-
Yeah, I can live with the Luffy drowning bit being cut. Even if that means that the Kokoyashi villagers are completely useless in the climactic battle…
But seriously, WHY SO MANY COMMERCIAL BREAKS ALL OF A SUDDEN?!
-
XD He went to Toriko Nakatani did the last epiosde of luffy's flashback and after that he didn't worked in One Piece anymore, I loved how he did
luffy going out to the sea and start his adventure, I hope they bring him back his colors resemble Oda.

I know Its look like movie 10 but I mean the performance of the speical is really good, I wish they will do it for Marineford
How I want marineford!!!!! Whitebeard to be BADASS all the way. -
This music ruins the Usopp scene.
Edit: The Tatasumaki scene was beautiful and very well done.
-
Sanji is suddenly fighting Kuroobi underwater by choice. Sense this makes?
-

Arlong threw him in, and Kuroobi came in after him.
-
Ah my bad. The pacing was too fast for me to pick that up lol
-
Sanji's fight was awesome.
-
The fights of Zoro and Sanji are very well animated
-
@LUFFY#1:

Yeah, i hope this means there won't be as many horrible episodes as now.

The fights were awesome, Tatsumaki was really good

No more stupid Buggy and Hancock fillers that ruin the mood !
No more horrible and obnoxious pace ! -
…Is this credits version of We Are! a new one just for this special?
And holy moly at that Nami-lying-on-doctor's-table boob shoot.
-

Yeah, it's the new one.
That's the full soundtrack.
-
Ooh it's even got all the verses. Thanks for the link!
-
I haven't seen the start was a opening in the start with we are I mean new one? opening not soundtrack!?
-
No more stupid Buggy and Hancock fillers that ruin the mood !
No more horrible and obnoxious pace !I'm already praying for that xD
The special didn't dissapoint me, it was great. Genzo is a boss.
-
I think Skypiea should go next but I'm hoping for a remake for Thriller Bark during Halloween or something
-
The special was really great. Many pros. Only con I can think of is that the pace made it hard to feel much emotion. Not a big deal though since it's still a great adaptation.
And Nami's boobs in the tattoo scene were overkill.
-
@Mark:

Arlong Park is 26 chapters. The other good adapted arc, Drum Island, is 24.
Skypiea is 65 (and that's not counting the key Jaya material). Thriller Bark is 47. Just can't do that in two hours with any quality.
Marineford, on the other hand, is 31, with many of those chapters being shorter and filled with basic action. Think that's the next best hope.
-
8/10. This special was good and definitely had both its pros and cons.
The animation was absolutely superb and I expected nothing less from Nakatani.
However as FelRes said, the pacing was so fast that I found it hard to become emotionally invested in the story this time around.
Nami being topless in that tatoo scene at the end really was overkill…
-
Well, that was really good. Pros and Cons:
+The animation/art looked beautiful in general.
+The fights were really well done, I particularly liked Arlong Park collapsing and Sanji's fight.
+They skipped the annoying Luffy stuck underwater part, even if the villagers(Genzo, Nojiko) became useless as a result.
+They did not skimp with the violence, they showed Bellemere being shot through and Arlong stomping on her arm was extra painful to look at. Ouch. Nami stabbing her arm was freaking brutal. Luffy was all bloodied up duing the fight with Arlong and the attacks looked pretty damn painful.-The march portion in general. I guess, it's just that iconic of a scene. It was too short and the music, while good, could've been a better choice.
-It IS a "special"/"movie", but it still felt too quick/rushed at points. I feel like that made it difficult to connect to what's going on.Not sure how well a newcomer to the series could relate to the stuff going on, but definitely a treat to older fans.
-
Yeah ! F*** censorship ! F*** kids ! F*** everyone !
Seriously, I was not really traumatized when Nappa brutally killed almost everyone (It's coming from someone who gets scared easily). -
Now we're talking. Absolutely great special in my book and if the weekly series used only a shred of this special's quality then we could hope again.
-
@Mark:

Oh please don't. As much as beautifully animated it will be (I can imagine some awesome animation for fighting Oars) it's not gonna save the arc from being absolute crap in the middle and climax.
Skypiea is absolute movie material…but like someone says it's too long and cutting stuff from that will hurt the arc.
Episode of Luffy perhaps? Post-War Arc?
--- Update From New Post Merge ---
@Galaxy:
Yeah, it's the new one.
That's the full soundtrack.
I wonder what it will be like if that was Opening 10.
-
So where do you think they'll upload this? Cause I feel like watching it now and can't find it anywhere.
-
@Miss:

Kousei Fansubs have said that they're doing it. Won't be subbed for a few days though.
-
Damn, I missed it.
Anyone know where I can watch it? -
Damn, I missed it.
Anyone know where I can watch it?At the moment, nowhere. Wait a few hours and a raw will probably pop up somewhere. Wait a few days and some fansub will presumably show up, and I can only assume that somebody will post it here when that happens.

Alright then, Thanks.

So whats the deal today? Is there a new one piece episode, or is it just htis special 2 hour movie? Or is it both?

This aired Saturday night in Japan. There will still be an episode tonight (when it's sunday morning in Japan).
-
Can't wait for a RAW to surface so i can see how good this is supposed to be. Sounds like they did a good job on Sanji's fight which was always my favorite fight in Arlong Park. Can't wait to see it reanimated.
-
Judging by the comments in this thread…...I really can't wait for a subbed version…...
-
Rewatching that scene, I realise how god damn epic it would have been had they chose to use Overtaken in this special.
-
You guys can watch the recorded stream last night here:
http://www.justin.tv/yujitw/b/329890253
then scroll time bar to 2:55
- But before that, Realscope Z had a special about the making of this episode plus the new movie Z. Lots of information regarding the new movie. Starts @ 0:55. New animated scenes from the movie @ 1:25
-
Thanks for that. I can't wait to see what the HD version will look like.
I've only really skimmed through Luffy giving Nami his hat and the fights so far and so far what I have to say is, you guys who were complaining about the lack of blood in last week's episode? You've got it here, liters upon liters of the stuff. Even if was was only for a few seconds, Nami stabbing out her tattoo looked brutal, and I still have no idea how Luffy survived Arlong chomping down on his neck after he wrecks the room.
All the fights look sweet, especially Sanji vs. Kuroobi, but it's weird that Luffy and Arlong disappear during those, as Luffy wasn't supposed to be there originally. And ha at Luffy teleporting Soru-style to sock Arlong.
-
Hmm, seeing the march again, are you guys sure they didn't use the same song only like, a shorter version? I'm not doubting you guys, hmm, maybe my hearing is a bit bad^^;;
-
No, it's a newer piece.
I think they didn't try to match the original scene deliberately, going with a different approach instead. And using the same song again would be just lazy.
