@summer9:
They say that the animation today is bad because the Animators are focusing on the movie, well if that is so, then fuck the Movie, I dont need the Movie, the series is much more important than the movie, the movie aint cannon so I dont care about that shit
I think the poor animation these days has less to do with the staff working on a movie and more to do with Toei knowing they pretty much have a guaranteed audience for One Piece. If they have a guaranteed audience then they don't need to spend as much on each episode. The quality of the series has pretty much been falling since the end of Enies Lobby, with a few spikes of quality here and there, but overall it feels to me like Toei is STILL pushing the series to see just how cheaply they can make it and still maintain ratings.
Watching the first Season 4 set really drove home how bad it has gotten. There's just so many reaction shots and otherwise static shots there isn't a whole lot of actual animation. And the animation we do have is done as effortlessly as possible. We have massive close-ups on the faces of characters so only the mouth needs to be animated (and the jaw and chin rarely are), shots framed on a character so that if a limb moves we often only see part of it so the rest of the limb (and how it's attached to the body) don't need to be shown (there were a few shots like that in this episode). A lot of people like to poke fun at specific frames in certain animated bits for being hilariously poor, but at least those bits are animated.
Regardless, don't expect the quality of the series to jump when they're done with the movie. Now and then they'll give us a really nice animated scene but that's all we can really hope for any more.
