Considering Iron Man 2 is the only one of the Marvel movies I own, yeah, I'm tempted to get this.
Marvel Movies Thread - Holy Shitballs

-
I don't own any of them, so I have it pre-ordered on Amazon.
-
Is the Guardians of the Galaxy people supposed to be a setup to be featured in Avengers 2? Five or however people they are seems rather much.
-
Hopefully it will just be Nova as a rep from the Guardians…all of them would be overkill...

http://www.ign.com/articles/2012/07/15/comic-con-fans-marvel-at-iron-man-3
(I believe something was brought up in the Avengers thread but I felt it sactioned it's own) As some of us already know Ironman 3 was brought to Comic-Con and some details were given.
! > Marvel screened about 5 or so minutes of footage (twice!) for fans. The clip began with Tony Stark playing with his new toys. His thought-controlled armor as he only has to gesture at his armor and/or give Jarvis a verbal command for the pieces to come flying at him. (We saw a bit of this in action in Avengers, remember?) That bit ends with a hero pose of Tony in his new silver and crimson armor.
We see Pepper Potts with iron Man inside Tony's seaside mansion when BOOM! Attack helicopter fire missiles into Tony's Malibu, completely destroying it and the cliffside. The mansion collapses into the Pacific Ocean. Pepper's fate is unclear, but we see Iron Man sink into the ocean with all the rubble.
There's then a sizzle reel showing images of Guy Pearce as Killian, Rebecca Hall as Maya Hansen (Black confirmed that's the character), Don Cheadle back in action as Rhodey/War Machine, and William Sadler in a role that appeared to be that of The President. But the big reveal was the closing shots of Ben Kingsley as … The Mandarin! Yes, folks, Marvel confirmed the character.
Kingsley's Mandarin has an American accent, a very affected one that sounded not unlike Agent Smith in The Matrix. He was decked out in his robe and his rings and had a weird beard and hairdo that, combined with his outfit, made him look like a mishmash of a samurai, an old rock star, a Klingon and a pharaoh. Like a true comic book villain, he even sat menacingly in his big chair.
! Nice to finally see the Mandarin. -
Just a reminder folks.
I realize that its advanced promo and the first thing Marvel wants to reveal, and no doubt all the above info will be in every commercial and trailer for the next nine months and be given away many times over before the movie actually comes out. But spoiler courtesy still applies.
Anyway, looking forward to it. IM2 was basically sacrificed to the alter of setting up Avengers, and for that it was probably worth it, though its probably the weakest and most set-upey of the Marvel movies as a result. Hopefully 3 will hold up better.
-
Remember folks, spoilers n stuff.
Anyway. Iron Man 2 was basically sacrificed on the alter to set up Avengers. Hopefully now that its done (and worth the sacrifice) part 3 can be strong on its own.
But yeah, fantastic as Downey is as the character, and the fact the first movie shot Iron Man up to an A-lister in the public eye (comic fans already knew, but the mainstream had no idea who he was) we could eventually get oversaturated on him. 3 films and the occassional Avengers flik is probably enough. Though if they manage to match the quality of Avengers again (its obviously POSSIBLE to do… just very hard.) I wouldn't totally mind them doing them for a long time... but more of part 2's quality... eh.

Probably mostly just to establish Thanos. I have a feeling that, given the likes of Rocket Racoon, (though this does explain his inclusion in marvel vs capcom 3) they aren't going to be trying too hard to line this up with the other films… its just really too out there and weird.
But who knows. I can totally buy into the first Ninja Turtles movie, so... depends how they play it, really. But I can't see the entire cast from this making it to the big group film. Same way War Machine wasn't in Avengers. They'll pick and choose what they want to carry over.
-
Rocket Racoon will be in a big theatrical film before Wonder Woman. Think about it.
-
Not too surprising, they've always had a problem with playing the whimsical elements of super heroes straight.

Glad he lied. :) -

Really???? The ironman 2 was a great movie, i feel it was better than Hulk, Thor and the captain america. Then again everyone has their opinion
-
If anyone hasn't seen it, the comic con panel is all up on youtube:
One of these years, maybe we'll get Rescue. Seems like they've certainly discussed it a lot.
-
Well, Robert Downey Jr in anything is automatically entertaining. Story wise its not nearly as good as the other movies, its got a lot of short comings.
-
Iron Man II was just an entire movie of meandering. Other than war machine the status quo barely shifted (Hey Stark! Remember how I asked you to join the avengers? Well, I'll be doing it this entire movie. Then, we'll turn you down. Only of course that wont actually matter), and Black widow was as superfluous as can be. Plus, I remember the whole Howard Stark/Ranko subplot being…less than stellar.
-
IM2 was pointless but so pointless i don't even think it tied in well to The Avengers. Nick Fury and Black Widow don't really matter. I thought the biggest problem was how weak the villian turned out to be. I was expecting a much better showdown than the one that happened. But it was still better than Thor and Capt America. Looking forward to this. Mandarin sounds interesting. I wonder if they'll play him more Sci-fi or Sci-Fantasy, thanks to the Avengers we know Tony knows about Aliens but still 10 rings of incredible power that are basically their own power source. IM has always tried to at least sound grounded in science.
-
Iron Man was amazing, my favourite of the "Marvel Cinematic Universe" wasn't a fan of Iron Man 2 though. Mandarin is a nice villain so I'm looking forward to IM3

A interview with the Director and a producer of Ironman 3
-
Ironman 2 was my least favorite of the Marvel movies by far. Its just so up its own ass that its hard for me to enjoy.
Sounds like 3 has more of a direction, so hopefully it will do better.
-
! ben kingsley as mandarin Ben Kingsley as Mandarin BEN KINGSLEY AS MANDARIN!!!!!! big Ben Kingsley fan
-
Hmm and IM3 is supposed to release on May 2013. Hell… long way to go! I don't know anything about the character Mandarin but just googled about him and it sounds interesting!
-
Long as the villain isn't like his earliest more racist interpretations…
[hide]
…probably shouldn't be neon green, either.
[/hide] -
Funny becaise he's not asian at least not this version.
-
I actually assume the casting partly was in fact to avoid that particular problem.
Good actor regardless, so hopes are high.
-
I feel Iron Man 2 WAS the weakest film in Marvel's Phase One, but it's one of those things where, even their Weakest link felt rather strong to me.
So, hopefully, since this is the start of Phase Two, they won't be bogged down by HAVING to shoehorn in a whole bunch of references and setups.
I squealed like a fangirl on a sugar high when it was announced they were doing Extremis. I REALLY can't wait to see where they run with the concept.
-
I'm looking forward to this movie, but I'm curious if it's going to deal with the problems brought up in 2.
Part of why I didn't like 2 is that the movie brought up some interesting tidbits that would've made for a better movie, but didn't really… do anything about them.
For example, nations all over the world were trying to replicate the Iron Man suit and failing, but it showed how much of an influence Stark's inventions had, especially with the coming of the suit. And now that the U.S. Army got ahold of one of the prototypes and made War Machine, what's to say the U.S. Army didn't make back ups? And other nations could've fought, capture, and disassemble some and make some of their own.
Just a gripe of mine, and of how the story could've been. Maybe we'll see some of that in 3, and maybe more of a resolve as well.
-

Ben Kingsley is half-Indian. So his Asian aspect is still there.

Poor Iron Man 2 bore the burden of having to set up practically everything for the Avengers. Now that that's over, it's got more freedom.
-

True but the original Mandarin was chinese but hey different interpretation.
-
Wolverine scheduled for next summer and now I read about a third Iron Man movie… life's good :]
-
True but the original Mandarin was chinese but hey different interpretation.
I think they're trying to run as far away from his Chinese origins as they possibly can. The original version of the Mandarin was about as Racistey as you can get without going full-on blackface.
-
Which makes Ben Kingsley a great choice. Not only is he an awesome actor (he's got a freaking knighthood!), but his half-Indian side gives him that sense of exotic-ness that's part of the Mandarin without seeming racist.
The dude played Gandhi, what more do you want?

Well on Iron Man: Armored Adventures the just introduced Pepper as Rescue…it's possible that this is a hint about more Rescue in the future?
*Looks at Rocket Raccoon from MvC3

Ironman 2 was not as good as Ironman. I'm hoping 3 will be better, Rourke's character was a lot better in trailers than in the movie. Still Ironman 2 is better than the other Avenger's movies (I haven't seen Captain America). So is Ironman 3 before or after the Avengers or are they going to pretend like Avengers never happened
-
It's after. Marvel is now on to "Phase 2"
-

Thanks. So what other movies are they doing, I've heard they are doing Thor 2 but haven't heard much in the way of Hulk or Captain America
-
Thor 2 which will be called Thor: The Dark World, Captain America 2 which will be titled Captain America Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Ant-Man

She only finally became Rescue and then the series ended and was canceled, because of the new 1 coming out.
-
oh…well...didn't know that...
-
Actually, my mistake. There is no confirmation on it actually being canceled ( yay )

well it had been said the serires had been canceled on wiki and many other websites, but now wiki is saying, the ending of the season 2 episode had on it 'Season Finale'.
-
I wonder how they're gonna do the Mandarin's ring powers, hopefully it won't look stupid.
-
Haven't posted here in awhile, I was curious to see what you guys thought of the movie. I'm glad you seemed to have loved it. :)

That's what makes it all the more of a waste to confine him only to Avengers movies.
But I understand that Hulk doesn't exactly have the best track record. Still, considering one of the Hulk didn't even really have anything to do with them, and Hulk's earned a bit of a rep from Avengers, I wish they would give him just one more chance. And the comics made him work. There must be a way for the movies to make him work.
Incidentally, I still haven't seen either of the Hulk movies.
Just noticed this, as I didn't get a quote a somehow missed it.
What I think they're thinking is: "Okay, so people like the Hulk again, but how much of that is because of how Whedon wrote him?"
I know that if I was them, I'd be worried about having someone else take over his character and try to make a movie, because let's face it, the Hulk is the hardest member of The Avengers (and maybe Super Heroes in general) to write compellingly for.
Marvel seems like they are truly aiming to turn out quality products now and not just make a lot of money (though that does help.)
-
Still having that internal debate about the briefcase. Alas. :T
-
Well, they should get Peter David to write him if Whedon is just too busy.

not that I'm aware. slightly off-topic, but man. It would be kind of awesome to have a group of people with the Avengers-tori set.
