Nothing special so far, it somehow reminds me of Beelzebub.
Art style is horrendous, but the story was funny.
First page
This is stupid.
End of the chapter
This is REALLY stupid.
The art is really "meh", but pretty good for being the author's first manga (if this somehow ran a long time, I could see it getting AWESOME). Biggest issue I see is that he needs to do better inking and his lines need more weight.
Also, that mangareader summary is completely inaccurate and needs to be fixed.
This was really boring. Doesn't hold a candle against assassination classroom for now (when we compare newcomers).
This series is OK so far. Its nothing special but it was a fun read nonetheless and I'll keep reading it for a bit to see how it goes.
Ah, another I'm destined for some sort of fighting thing, but I'm mostly a loser and don't want to acknowledge my power type of manga it seems. The art in first chapters tend to be wonky. The last couple of pages weren't too bad, or at least had some life to it with that punch.
Do real kids in Japan still wear pompadours sometimes? Or is it worn like like their version of a Hipster?
The fuck? So disappointed right now.

Tell them through the Twitter! I did.
Guess I'm in the minority but I quite liked this manga. It was pretty funny and those double page spreads kicked ass.
Chapter 2 is out on Mangareader
And I agree with you Black Leg, especially after reading this chapter. That was the first time I've seen anybody's face ripple like that, nice detail.
I get the distinct feeling that Juuzou's trying to take a page from Medaka Box.
Yeah, it's not gonna last too long. :/
I read it on SJA and I think Yamato's older brother is pretty rad, …and the concept is kinda cool, so I'll keep reading it for a little while.
What? I can't believe you guys don't like it, I actually find it pretty awesome. Reminds me of a mix of Bakuman/Medaka Box/ And Early Bleach. I also don't see the complaints about the art. But, meh I'll continue reading to see where it goes. Definitely better than Bulge for sure.
So I read through the first six chapters of this series didn't find much to enjoy. The art isn't that great and the concept of each person having a unique power is getting really played-out. Honestly though it could be OK if any of the characters aside from the brothers were at all interesting. In particular the teacher from Takamagahara and the villains revealed so far are extremely bland.
Good to see that his power isn't just super strength but something less generic, the squirrel guy looks interesting, looking forward to next chapter when we see more of the Takagamahara school or whatever it is.
The school did look pretty creative. I hope the first few chapters were just a warm up that will be forgotten. This was ranked last this week though…so it better change.
I couldn't care less about Takama, but BLUE EXORCIST?
YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAH.
Well, Blue Exorcist is a mega-hit. Nowhere near the same class.
Takamaga is headed straight to the bottom of the can at the moment, it's gonna have to really spice something up.
It's following Bulge's pattern in dropping to the chopping block from the first chapter get-go.
Okay, so I bothered to catch up.
See, Juuzou should've put the stuff in chapters 8 and 9 back in the beginning. It makes no sense that he'd waste so much time of people that were going to be made irrelevant anyway.
So it has a decent idea to go with now. Too bad it's so poorly executed it's gonna be canned.
(Also, that white-haired dude's pissing me off to no end jfc.)

I agree completely. These last two chapters have actually been pretty well done! Why in the world did he start off with the boring, overdone school setting for so many chapters?

The go to the school/academy for children with special powers is pretty played out too. Honestly they don't seem any worse or better than the other chapters.

Because we know where the story is mainly supposed to take place now, and we're getting an idea of what the story itself i supposed to be about. Before, it was just flailing around like a chicken with it's head cut off. Nothing to the plot but "dude with speshul powers beats bad guys".
I wouldn't say that the writing's any better (though I liked the part where Yamato figured out to knock the rock out from under the guy), but the plot nougats make it seem less terrible.
Only different seems to be training for the main character. Premise hasn't changed in the past few chapters.

Gigantic magical school/town on top of giant hill > crappy normal school
Semi-well-designed magic power allies > extremely stereotypical school friends with terrible designs
Actual evidence of overarching plot > played-out, monsters-of-the-day threatening his friends…over and over
I'm not saying this is a masterwork now by any means. I'm just claiming that the manga has gone from a confused yawnfest to actually showing some potential.
I mean, do you remember the last jump manga that started just like the first few chapters of Takamagahara?

The shift in location is critical and may be what the author needs to avoid being SWOTed. It's clear that the story the author wanted to tell begins here, not back at that drab school setting. It's just a mystery why he bored us with so many terrible chapters before switching it up. Chapter 8 should have been chapter 1.

The only difference between this and now is that there will be other characters with magical powers that are good. The characters aren't any more or less stereotypical and the goal is still that the main character has to stop bad people that use their powers for evil, same as before. Unless the writer is going to completely forget them I'd assume those characters will come back in the future. He was setting up the normal world the main character lived in, albeit slowly.
Once the ball starts rolling with an underlying threat and a bigger plot, then I'll feel the plot is moving somewhere. For now? The latest chapters seem to be on the same level as the previous ones.

I'm not sure why you're downplaying the addition of characters. This offers the possibility for interesting personalities, abilities and interactions. Characters are the heart of most stories! And why do they have to be good? There could be factions within this huge place. Who knows?

They're way better than that stupid guy who is Yamato's underling and the bland-as-bread childhood friend.

It's all about execution. If he was just hanging around his town/school fighting a new monster when it appeared then the story would be like 100 others. Now we have the opportunity for more.

They will be back. I just hope it isn't for a while (which seems like the case from the most recent chapter). Like I said, I'm just hoping this normal world was an afterthought and we'll stick mainly in Takamagahara for a while.

Obviously we disagree about this. I think these last two chapters ARE the author's big move to get things rolling. It's true that in-and-of themselves these chapters are only marginally better than those before them, BUT the key is that they have finally shown us that this series has potential.
Of course arguing this much about a series that has a good chance of following Bulge to the grave is pretty silly.

This is true.
For the rest of it, we'll just have to agree to disagree. The new characters now seem on the same level as the others. One's a serious odd bushido the other is the lighthearted one.
I get the school's a chance for new plots and world, but that was where the story was going. The school's been mentioned already and the hints for the the new school is like is just as small as the reference to the school in chapter 4. I guess for me it's not oh this story now has potential but more like this the story progressing naturally. What's still evident though is the author's slow pacing which is probably the author's biggest fault.
Reading the first few chapters I have to say, this series lack a certain kick to it…it feels so mediocre. Maybe it's just me.

Have you read through 8 and 9 yet?
Yes I did. The fight was ok but it did not leave a strong impression on me.
I expected it to give something like a KABOOM!! but it went like a CLANG!
Hahaha, that's fair.
Really liked the twist of those powers
! also good to see the main character get more followers lol
The new chapter just went on full turbo mode to wrap shit up.
Like sped through half a dozen plot out of nowhere in fast forward mode lol
It's inevidable can is coming up real soon.
The only thing I will remember about this manga is that it had Daigo "The Beast" Umehara in it.
It started out good. This series could have gone in a better direction, shame Kawai-sensei went with your run-of-the-mill "3 Man Squad beating up academy bullies" storyline.
I guess everyone knows it's been cancelled officially now. Anyway:
See ya later Takamagahara! Your start made no sense and you even failed to deliver on any semblance of an interesting storyline by making the enormous magical school into a completely normal school where a few people have powers of any consequence. I won't put you with the likes of Lock-On! and SWOT, but you weren't any good either.
