Funimation dvd discussion II ( UPDATED 8/4/12, FIRST POST FOR F.A.Q)

Ehh, its not really worth it in my opinion. Since I'm going to keep my order with amazon.
Yeah, hopefully there's more too it then just cover's we already have on our shelf.
-
I'm grateful enough that we get a bonus besides the DVD. I believe this is the first time we get a bonus by buying something One Piece related in RightStuf right?
-

I'll agree, it is an underwhelming gift, but at least it's something. I would've liked something a little cooler like a magnetic dry-erase board (ala Baka and Test) or even a regular OP mouse (ala B Gata H Kei…would've been even better if we got those oppai OP ones w/ the purchase). I'm just hoping they have more then just cover art...plus as far as I know, there won't even be a place to store it (usually these art books come w/ LE boxsets and can be placed within the art box safe and sound...not so much here).
-
Depending on the size of the artbook, it may fit inside of the case, or at least inside the slipcover.
-

That is true, the books could be small like the FMA artbooks that came with the dvds or the Witchblade ones. Either way, at least it's something, something is always better than nothing.
-
So it turns out that it doesn't matter how fast you refresh the order page. The item doesn't ship out any sooner.
-
I learned that lesson when the "Reserved for Your Order" fiasco started.
-
Amazon got Collection 8 for 22.23 right now.
-
I don't know if it means anything, but my order just changed order.

Not so sure about that. The "Reserved for your Order" is still under the "Bundle1278" item…they just rearranged the order. Hopefully, they do start shipping this out by next week.
-
Now they changed it back. I wonder what changing my order means…

It means absolutely nothing. I've seen this happen several times over the course of the last several weeks since I made my order.
-
october solicitations are starting to leak and it has one piece season 4 voyage 2 down for 31/10/12. Halloween!
-
If that the release date not bad spot to end of the year for the dvd release. Since it looks like Season 4, Part 3 will be ether late December or sometime in January.
-
I know it's only one sales outlet but I'm kinda concerned Season 4 Voyage One isn't ever in the Top 100 Anime sales list on Amazon. It was briefly a while back but I don't see it there anymore. I mean Collection 8 is selling better and it doesn't come out till September. Though historically "One Piece" fans don't really buy a new DVD or manga volume until right up to the release date. Still, I was expecting more.

I don't see the need to be concerned, the fans who would have wanted it early by now probably already pre ordered back when it first appeared. I am sure there will be a ton of fans who want it, when it comes out to major retail in August and then more who want it looking for something to watch after finishing collection 8.
-
It was up in the top 100 yesterday.

have to agree with this post!
Also i hope they do adapt the every other month release schedule , it would be awesome to have three voyages out by the end of the year which i think we shall going at this rate. That would mean that the last season 4 set would be released some time in april 2013. I think theres going to be little short of an outrage should there be another big gap in waiting between season 5.
-
Well some good news, One Piece is current in the top 20 most popular show on Hulu as 20.

Good point about the more people buying Season 4 Voyage One after Collection 8. It's possible that "One Piece" DVD sales in general have gradually been rising as the Collections have been coming out, compared to when it was the Voyages. If that's the case there's obviously a big amount of fans that weren't buying "One Piece" before. Maybe it's a mix of old and new fans, and once they've finished those last episodes of Season 3 they can move on to the next batch. And hey it may be the case where the series itself is getting more popular and more well-known, at least for a series with not much mainstream exposure. I mean my friend from Toei Animation told me at Anime Expo that viewership on the streaming has gone up.

I don't know what the best release schedule is, it depends on the habits of the general anime DVD customer. It's nice that they've made the DVDs much cheaper, but if you release the DVDs too quickly after the other then there are people who haven't built up enough disposable income to buy the next DVD right at the release date. On the other side if you wait too long to release the next one people might lose interest in purchasing consistently, or other products will start rolling out between that gap that will attract interest away from "One Piece".
Also it doesn't hurt to have a little impatience with a long wait, I mean look at the anticipation that happened with Season 4. The only setback was how people were worried it would be another "Case Closed" situation, but FUNimation said before it came close to the time of the announcement that wasn't true. As far as outrage, I think fans need to be more realistic. What's the point of getting upset at a company when there's no clear control over how negotiations and legal stuff goes on? I mean most of us here don't even know how it works.
Maybe it took a while because of sales results of the first three seasons, maybe not. Maybe it took a while to agree on getting the widescreen and figuring out a different price point. But honestly I was not surprised that it took this long. FUNimation released three whole seasons in a row and I don't remember the time gap being that far between each release. That's a heavy load. I can't imagine sales didn't dip at a certain point and maybe FUNimation/Toei Animation had to wait for a certain amount of sales to negotiate for the next batch of episodes. I don't know, I'm not in the biz so my speculation may not be that reliable.
One season at a time with at least a gap of a few months is best, it's more stable. Also I think Season 4 will sell better than Season 3 since Water 7 is a more popular story arc.
-
what i meant by "outrage" would be the gap between water 7 and enies lobby. Outrage was probably the wrong word to use but i think should funimation choose to test our patience during that time period , there will be a lot of unhappy fans literlay dying for the next batch of enies lobby episodes. Although i could just be speaking on behalf of myself lol because i want those episodes licensed asap!

I don't think FUNimation would purposely wait to announce more material. They'd announce it I'm sure not too long after the ink would be dry. Literally dying is even stronger don't you think? And I mean why would you be wanting season 5 now? Season 4 hasn't even come out yet, licensing those episodes is a waste of time.
-
Not bad, not bad. I'm still thinking of shipping starting next week but I'd love to be proven wrong.
It appears you are correct. But the day isn't over yet, I suppose.

i know they wont be licensing season 5 just yet but hopefully mid way through season 4. It just wouldnt make sense for them to leave us on that god awfull cliff hanger before enies lobby. Although from a business perspective the demand would be far greater and it could easily lead to another season so its anybodies guess. My choice of words hasnt been great today iv had a long long day .
have funimation ever when mid way through dubbing a show been able to license more of the same material after assessing the initial sales revenue of the first few sets? This is something i would be very interested to know

I think that's kind of unrealistic. I mean there's no point in licensing another season that quickly when the other hasn't even finished. FUNimation also has properties to acquire, assess, and all that jazz. You shouldn't just license and release something as quickly as possible, that's bad business.
And it's definitely better to leave people on a cliffhanger. That's how television series seasons work.

OMFG, Yes! One Piece Season 4, First Voyage should be shipping Monday. The status on my order now says "Reserved For your Order" on One Piece Season 4, Part 1. That is the actual DVD now and not just the gift. This is how it looks to me now. ^^

Mine's exactly the same but the gift is still "On order from manufacturer".
-
Same, for me the gift still says on order.
-
Season 4, part one is now is 80 on the Amazon.com top 100 of Anime and Manga dvds.
-
Same as Batroz and Rin. I preordered it the day it was put up.

That is strange, I wonder why everything is saying "Reserved for your order" for me then.. I just print screened the page for anyone who wants to see what I mean. Now I am starting to wonder if anyone else is getting the same as me or if it is just a glitch on my order :ermm:
!
-
DPNZ, to see when yours will be actually shipped, go to your list of orders. For S4P1, what does it say for the status? "Shipped"? "All backordered"? Or anything else?
EDIT: Just saw from your screenshot that it says "all backordered" at the top. Damn… Well, it could change at any time so keep an eye on that. Especially on the list of orders page.

It usually takes a day for them to process the order and ship it out and since they might have got the S4 Part 1 DVDs in on Friday, they have updated the orders to now say "Reserved for your order" my theory is that for others orders (BatrozX, Demon Rin, Zephray) and possibly more peoples orders, it either has not updated their status yet or else they only got a few copies in and reserved it for the first so many people who ordered it first. Since it was Friday when they updated the status and now it is Saturday, in which they don't work on the weekend my best bet is that they will ship it out on Monday (if it truly is reserved for my order and not a glitch)
EDIT: It is actually normal though for my orders to say "All backordered" the day before and even on the day it is being shipped out.
–- Update From New Post Merge ---
EDIT 2: Also on the status of another order I placed (Since I currently have 2 open orders on RightStuf) Collection 7 has been reserved for my order as well.
-
Forgot about that. Yeah, Collection 7 is reserved for me too.

Subbed epsiodes 206 & 207 are up!
206: http://www.onepieceofficial.com/videos.aspx?&v=8419
207: http://www.onepieceofficial.com/videos.aspx?&v=8420
For some reason the opening still has Japanese credits and isn't subbed.
-
Subbed epsiodes 206 & 207 are up!
Nice. First thing I noticed was that the opening finally utilized the original OP logo w/o having to use the random sequence of Merry w/ the gold logo. I'm probably just gonna check out a little of the episodes, I want to save my viewing of the whole episodes for the set.
-
In ep. 207, they're showing ending 15, eternal pose, instead of ending 14 . o_O It's not subbed either.
Also, no preview for 208.
-
Wow so opening 5 dubbed up? I'm really excited XD Though I can't view the content being here in the UK… :(
Probably an error on Funi's part, but maybe they are showing ending 15 due to licensing issues, or maybe they just thought the song... sucked? (Wasn't a fan of Mirai Koukai to be honest)

No, these are subbed episodes. And Ending 15 was Eternal Pose, not Future Voyage.

Subbed episodes on the site always keep the original animation intact.

But wasn't this always the case with the subbed episodes?
-
Ah, thanks for clearing that up for me and killing my joy =/ I'm fully aware of what ending 15 is, however they should be showing ending 14!
-
Toei probably screwed up the endings somehow. Ending 14 should be on the dvds since Toei gave it to other countries to dub.

Oh damn it. Sorry. I never bothered watching the DVD episodes subbed on the site before, so I didn't know.
I'm still hoping for the DVDs to have the unaltered Bon Voyage opening as an extra this time.
-
I have to say, the video quality on 207 looks great. Very crisp. I was expecting it to not look much different from 206 or the current episodes being simulcasted but it's much sharper than those. Then again with them having the HD masters I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
I also wanted to note that the 207 preview at the end of 206 was cropped, but with all the other little slipups that were on these episodes I guess we have no way of knowing if it'll be that way on the DVD.
-
Yeah, really hoping these masters aren't on the DVD, lots of things wrong with it.
-
The horse is Shelly, for those that care.
I believe she's called Sherry by Viz and sub groups like K-F?
Ah, thanks for clearing that up for me and killing my joy =/ I'm fully aware of what ending 15 is, however they should be showing ending 14!
Yeah, my mistake! I misread your post.
-
It could because they can't use the song for the streaming of the episodes. This happend recently on the Toriko streaming as well.
-
Finally glad to see the gap between 206-390 being filled. Too bad it won't be complete for a few years, but at least they're finally adding them.
-
It's been a few years since Funimation dubbed One Piece. Do they have a lot more actors now than they used to? I'm watching Fairy Tail and hearing Ling from FMA as Natsu and Chopper as Happy. It's really annoying to see characters have the exact same voices as other shows. I'm hoping we'll get plenty new voice actors. Especially for the Water 7 roles.
EDIT: At least Ling disguised his voice a little to play Koza…
EDIT: Whoa, my mistake. Happy isn't voiced by Brina Palencia (sp). Someone named Tia Ballard. That's crazy. At least we have a sound-alike replacement if Brina ever leaves.
