I didn't say significance, but that they're there, they haven't been cast completely to the wayside. They interact with other characters, take part in gags, etc. It's not all about fights or pushing the plot inexorably forward.

Why so angry ? I'm just asking if you can equate any of the good to adequate parts of this series to Gerard.

I wouldn't mind that too, but it just seems so pointless to have so many extra guild members when none of them have anything to do. Literaly it looks like everyone outside of Natsu's group just sit on their asses until Natsu and co can come back and tell them what it feels like to actualy be doing something.
Plus they're so underdeveloped sometimes it hurts. Like the two characters who got married and had a kid. I didn't even remember either of the two existed prior to that scene, so that ruins a good plot point right there.

I guess it was too much to nicely ask.
Maybe it just helps that I tend to have a good memory for completely incidental stuff.
291's raw is out on Manga Teers. Looks like it's largely an excuse for fanservice, as it's an underwater setting and all of the competitors are women (aside from the Quatro Puppy rep, as that guild doesn't have any women competing, and he gets eliminated right off the bat). Still, Sabretooth clearly takes Raven Tail's designated antagonist spot -
! Minerva spends most of the time brutally beating up Lucy and dragging it out for as long as possible, and the rest of Sabretooth are just acting smug and arrogant about it, as well as (in Sting's case) outright laughing.
Hate rising.
Very rapidly.

Mashima's terrible in chapters that try to push the plot forward. He's pretty great at chaotic party scenes. It's when the extended cast of Fairy Tail seems to work.
Seems to be a typical Fairy Tail chapter. With lots of fanservice. And it makes, from a story point-of-view, no sense that all the participants are girls. Granted, the bikini battle between Mirajane and Jenny was stupid too, but that one was at least decided by the organizers who probably just got horny and wanted to see half-naked models. In a contest, the teams get to choose their participant theirselves, and I bet that in most teams (at least in Fairy Tail A), the guys would be just as eager to participate as the girls.
I hope the theoretical concept of the contest sort of makes up for what seems to be a bad practical execution, just like it did with Hidden and Chariot - and there is some rule that states that the teams have to send in a female if they got one on their team.
On the other hand, it's funny to see Labian again. Even though one might criticize Mashima's writing, and it might be warranted in several cases, Labian's appearance shows that he at least doesn't forget his characters, which is one of the traits of a good writer. Some people like Toriyama forget what is essentially the second main heroine of the first part of their story (Lunch) 50 chapters into the second part of the story.
Also, realy ?
! Lucy gets completely fucked over in 2 of her 2 competitions ? Realy ?

Exactly, it's the cooldown chapters where everyone's just screwing around that are the most fun to read. The self-contained omakes tend to be decent too, though the Coca-Cola one became so bad it's good by the end.
The chapter at hand…eh, if it's not as insultingly dumb as the Mirajane fight was, I'll bear it. As least here it seems that more is happening than ''hey, fanservice!'' But there's no way I'm gonna try sneaking a look at the RAW before I get home this time.
! Damn Lucy lost again but at least she came in 2nd

! At least in this case, she got her team eight points, rather than getting zero like last time, and the person who beat her was one of the most powerful mages in the most powerful guild, rather than someone who was basically fodder that needed to be bailed out. In this case, I'd prefer that she comes in second rather than implausibly winning against an opponent who should be well above her level.
Its always amusing seeing people complain that characters always win in a manga and then when someone loses they complain again.

Lucy's been all kindsa shat on by Hiro whenever she actualy tries doing something that doesn't involve summoning spirits to do everything for her recently.
I wouldn't want Lucy to beat someone who was matching Natsu in strength she's not Erza and it would definitely be a troll if that happened.

Chapter's out on mangateers. Not the best trans, but whatevs. http://mangateers.com/manga/fairy-tail/291/1/ Didn't really like it cause Mashima made Sabertooth way too outta character. Way too evil. Other than Sting, nobody on Sabertooth was really a dick, least of all the refined Minerva/Rufus, but now they all look like total assholes (except Rogue). However seeing friendship Lucy getting slammed was pretty cool.

Laxus's ''?'' was definitely the line of the chapter. Real attractive faces from Sting, there.
I'm not really clear on what Minerva's power is supposed to be? Vacuum blasts?

Bias-ness aside here (seriously theres no pleasing you people with this manga is there. You can't just enjoy it?). I gotta say "eh" on this chapter
As usual Mashima love of fanservice takes the forefront to an otherwise interesting concept. Its a free-for-all in a water sphere after all. I like that the playing field had advantages and disadvantages for everyone especially in an underwater environment where movement is limited. But for the love of all things shonen, why the hell did Mashima pick Lucy for this. Celestrial Spirit or no, there are plenty on Team Natsu who are better at underwater combat. (Gray would've been a better choice unless he's just saving up for the Rufus battle.) But no she's just there for the sake of fanservice, nothing more. And once again Juvia loses due to idiocy over fangirling over Gray. -Sigh-
I didn't mind the beatdown so much cause well, Minerva hasn't fought yet and I pretty much expected her to trash whomever when up against. But the shift in attitude was a major "wha" point. Being haughty is one thing but this is..well just being cruel for the sake of it. But I suppose this is to give us someone to hate for the latter half of the games and more incintive for Fairy Tail to trounce Sabertooth. Meh whateve. Next part suppose to be a tag team battle right. Guess Sting and Rouge are up next.
Is it bad that im glad she lost? Its always good to see that heart and determination dont always ensure a victory in every series.
I'm not sure. Could they breath inside the sphere? If so, Lucy actually did a pretty good job of taking heavy hits from Minerva and not being suffocated of lack of oxygen after being underwater for like 10 minutes. I imagine it being some kind of magic water with water properties, but with a breathable oxygen supply.
Otherwise, I… Was not too fond of the chapter. As others said, Minerva is a bit too cruel. The other Sabertooth members may be jerkasses to some degree, but they seem to restrict their jerkassery to taunting others and are playing fairly in battles. On the other hand, she IS Gemma's daughter (or was that a translation mistake?), so she might have taken after him. I have a feeling that Mashima tried to make up for her cruelty by have her wearing those very tight, almost camel toe-showing shorts.
A last note: I know that Japan has some other cultural values, but can Mashima really get away by making the announcer an obvious pedophile? (I thought he was initially just finding Wendy and Chelia cute in the innocent way (like a puppy or kitten), but now he wants Wendy to don a bikini and jump in the water rather than Lucy)
Well, that was pretty much unqualified terribleness.
What. Just. Happened.

It has to be Sting's fault.
I hope my memory's bad, but wasn't Sting the only one not acting like a douche when his GuildMate was getting publicly shamed?

I think that has to be Rogue. He's not there mocking FT aswell.

No, that was Rogue.
Man, Lucy fans must be mad right now.
no matter what you think in the end the last boss will be Zeref, so get over it

Ah, thanks.
That makes the chapter marginally more tolerable to me.
I don't like fanservice in general, but there's a difference between having a throwaway chapter dedicated to it–the Mirajane fight--and a chapter that tries to hide the fact that it's purely a fanservice chapter with a thin patina of plotpoints. I can understand the former. The latter sucks.
Meh, this chapter wasn't anywhere near as crass as the Mirajane one, so I wasn't really bothered by it apart from the innate contrivance.
Fighting in ships (or miniture paddleboats or whatever) would've been so much cooler, though.
This chapter actually reminded me of Final Fantasy X's Blitzball.
There you go. Another reason to hate it.
I hope my memory's bad, but wasn't Sting the only one not acting like a douche when his GuildMate was getting publicly shamed?
None of the members really were acting like douches. Sting simply said something like "our master is a bit rough, isn't he", showing that he has at least some understanding of right and wrong, even though he might not care about it. Most members just had stone faces when Yukino was humiliated.
Going by his personality, he would easily be laughing while Lucy was simply humbled, but would be more neutral if she was actually about to get killed.
If the crowd is still in love with Sabertooth after this shit…
I swear.
I hope this Sting continues to appear.
Look at him, he is so happy.
I would've swore before this chap pl were saying Grey was gonna be in this challenge with Juvia not Lucy. The way it turned out I'm surprised didn't troll Grey through it with the whole getting naked thing but I guess he would've won too easily.
Meh chap, I don't mind fanservice but it rarely helps makes a chap better unless it's so blatant and bad I can't help but laugh.
As for Sabertooth going so hard FT should expect it after what Natsu did. Plus Minerva just seems the type.
never underestimate the chubby
So, Lucy's lost her two events in this thing, and it's implied that she's going to be kidnapped or something later.
Should I hope that it's this foreshadowed event that somehow redeems her?
Lucy will die, that's what I believe.
I hope you are right GM
They have that second stellar mage so no need for Lucy to die.
Lucy has more keys, and if all Arcadia needed for his plan was Yukino, he wouldn't have been as concerned about Minerva beating the everliving crap out of her. And then there's Levy's ominous narration from the future. I'd definitely put more stock in that than say, Charles's vision.
Anyway, even if Lucy does somehow die because of the Eclipse thing, there's no way it'll be permanment. After at most an arc or two later they'll find some way to revive her.
Perhaps Edolas Lucy will somehow show up and be the one to die in Lucy's place, making everyone think that it was Earthland Lucy who was killed.
Or maybe Lucy will be fatally injured, and Mavis' ghost will merge with her to bring her back to… wait, why does that plot sound familiar?
