I like this idea of Law being a former slave.
It would explain SO much about his character.
Chapter 671: The Gas-Gas Fruit

-
I like this idea of Law being a former slave.
It would explain SO much about his character.Like dressing his crew up in the same suits to take some individuality from them? Yeah, makes sense.
-
Like dressing his crew up in the same suits to take some individuality from them? Yeah, makes sense.
Do you mean those white suits that Shachi and Penguin wear? That's because they're twinsies, duh.
-
This would actually explain everything.
Brownbeard mentioned that a Tenryūbito had visited the island, and had named the dragon. It's more than likely that this Tenryūbito is in cahoots with CC, which makes it plausible that this same Tenryūbito IS Joker. It would certainly explain why Joker has so much sway over the WG.
Now, let's consider Law's actions. He has aided Luffy for no apparent reason, saving him from certain death at Marineford and now forming an alliance with him on PH. When Luffy thanks Law for his help, Law brushes it off as if it was nothing, and I think he may have a reason for doing so. Law witnessed Luffy punching out a Tenryūbito on Sabaody, and if Law really IS a former slave, he would feel a sense of admiration for his fellow pirate captain, spurring him on to save Luffy at Marineford. The reason he brushed it off later, is because he's ashamed of his past as a slave, just like Hancock.
Law knew about Joker before coming to PH, and if Joker is a Tenryūbito, Law would know about that as well. Considering his past as a slave, it makes perfect sense that Law asks CC NOT to tell Joker about his presence on the island, and it also explains why Law can't draw attention to himself by fighting CC. Now, if we look at Law's reaction to hearing Bepo's name, it becomes plausible that Law's crew (assuming that they are former slaves as well) have been reclaimed by the Tenryūbito, perhaps even by Joker. This would give Law even MORE reason to stay in the shadows, knowing that his crew's fate rests in the balance.
If Law is indeed a former slave. . .wouldn't he'd had more of a reaction during the auction? He was incredibly relaxed, with not one, nor two, but three tenryubitoo in there. When Luffy punched that Tenryubitoo, he didn't even react, and kept his extremely relaxed pose. Not a comment, not a reaction, nothing. In fact, KID got 3 or 4 (really interesting, btw) lines regarding how twisted and absurdly evil was the whole auction house business. But Law? Nothing. Weird if he was really a former slave.
I'll do say that him freeing Jean Bart could be seen as a surprising act of kindness. . .but it could also be seen as "man, a half giant, a former pirate captain, if I free him he joins my crew. . .hell, why not??". So, I don't really know.
If anything, post-timeskip he's been acting more straight and serious. He was more of a smug, "badass" and cool kid back in Sabaody. Even after saving Luffy, he had that relaxed and confident smile in his face while he stated he had plans for the future. Now, he's constantly either dead serious or just straight pissed off. Either something happened over the time skip, or Oda wanted Law to act more like this.
But I don't see the signs of Law being a former slave. And no, I don't think his arm tattoos count. Cause I can see you people bringing up how they "suspiciously look like a sun. . . ."
Ed: Wait, there was a reaction. The same reaction Kid had. THIS:

Not the face of someone traumatized by being a slave. . .
-
Do you mean those white suits that Shachi and Penguin wear? That's because they're twinsies, duh.
Bepo got one too. Just sayin' it'd be weird if he was a former slave and then makes his crew do certain things like wear the same clothing.
-
It would be an interesting twist if Vegapunk is a Tenryubito, although I've always liked the idea that he is a victim of the WG rather than a villain.
-
It would be an interesting twist if Vegapunk is a Tenryubito,
Nah, I think Vegapunk is more of a "rags-to-riches" type.
-
after that great fight with luffy and ceaser we have to wait two weeks to see who's got law in pain on the floor.luffy's imune to posin thing is coming in handy a lot latley. how many times has he been poisened?
-
I don't see why some people think Monet has anything to do with Law's current condition. Why would she ask him about it then?
-
I don't see why some people think Monet has anything to do with Law's current condition. Why would she ask him about it then?
Well, I'm not sure if she has anything to do with that, but she does start laughing as soon as the mysterious character shows up,
so I don't think she's completely ignorant about what's going on. -
Loved this chapter. I was thinking Luffy was winning too easily there even for a character like this, so I'm glad to see Ceaser had a trick up his sleeve. Also loved the Magellan callback.
And what a cliffhanger to leave us on, Oda!
-
You guys just wait for Oda to jump back to the action with the Strawhats and completely ignore the cliffhanger in the next chapter.
I'll laugh, cry and rage at the same time.
-
Lol the just walked in and Law just started to cough up blood.Who the hell is this guy?
Why does oda have to take a break next week and it's a cliff hanger. Why Oda?Why?
-
because it' oda
just spit those theories out!..
then oda surprise you with shocking person, there goes the theories -
Maybe it's Law's old man
-
I was thinking Vegapunk too. The robes reminded me of it. Though if it is I'd have to agree with Law and wonder what the hell he's doing on Punk Hazard and how he got there. Maybe he built a teleporter or something.
So is Luffy a complete dumbass or is he a complete dumbass? Annoying to see him still be so utterly careless against the main enemies in the NW.
This…
luffy is putting in jeopardy his entire crew with this rash actions...
-
This…
luffy is putting in jeopardy his entire crew with this rash actions...
I know, right? It's like they've completely forgotten what his character used to be like.
-
I'd be more worried about Luffy if Robin and Franky weren't there. Sure, they can't hit logias but they seem more then capable of pulling something off. Still, what I like about this chapter is how it's displaying that the enemy is more of a challenge then I would have thought. The addition of this guy who can apparently paralyze Law is a nice twist.
-
Ed: Wait, there was a reaction. The same reaction Kid had. THIS:
http://mangafox.me/manga/one_piece/v52/c503/5.html
Not the face of someone traumatized by being a slave. . .
True, but it could easily be the reaction of someone who absolutely hates the Tenryubito but knows he couldn't do anything to them without drawing the WG's attention. He's obviously smiling in the "I like the way this guy thinks" vein.
Also, I've been doing some more thinking on this possibility. If law has an explosive-collar-like device in his chest that can be used against him, why couldn't he, whose DF power is literally the Operating fruit, simply remove it? Also, Law didn't immediately know who was there when he grabbed his chest initially, and if there was only one person who could do that to him he wouldn't have to ask.
On top of that, if someone as influential in the WG as Joker knows Law is a former slave, wouldn't he have been able to stop him from becoming a Shichibukai in the first place? A secret laboratory years later doesn't seem like the first place you'd spring that knowledge on him. Furthermore, if Law knows his former slave master is an important WG figure why would HE want to be a Shichibukai either?
Granted, there are possible answers to these questions, but its better to wait 2 weeks (Oda you bastard . . why are you soo damn good) and find out then.
-

Oh yeah… LOL.
I still think the Tenryūbito are involved, and that somebody is holding something over Law, but the specifics are so far unclear...

I'll laugh, cry and rage at the same time.
Of course he will. Oda loves doing that to us.
You guys really think the Celestial Dragons are involved? Does kind of look like the typical outfits they were, but it's hard to tell from just the legs.
-
Do you mean those white suits that Shachi and Penguin wear? That's because they're twinsies, duh.
The entire crew wore the suits, the only we didn't see is their captain-Law and the newest recruit- Jean Bart- who was twice teh size of the others so not likely to a siut his size right then
-

Brownbeard already mentioned them in relation to the island, so it's not too farfetched.
-
doesnt matter…if he really cares for them he should have thought about it
-
Oh yeah… LOL.

Caesar is probably holding his crew and he was taking Monet to use her "power" to scout the island perhaps for them. Or perhaps by using Monet to fly up high allowing him to make a Giant Ope Ope room.
-
Monet is just too much like Robin circa Alabasta. So she's not joining.
Or that may be the precise reason why she is. -
I hate these early arc chapters. Annoys me when its in teh stage of making the strawhats all look weak and getting beat and in trouble. We all know they are going to live, are alive, stay alive, ect. Just annoying cliff hangers and what not last few weeks.
-
Oh man, a figure people don't know about. Everything going to go nuts over who they think it is, only to find out it's someone who makes sense

Cliff Hangers like this are fine. Also, the past few weeks have had no cliffhangers, except maybe the alliance one, but you may as well call the end of every chapter a cliffhanger if you think that way.
Also this isn't the early arc stage anymore, and would you rather the Straw Hats just faceroll everyone and have no problems at all?
-
Why do I have a feeling that Luffy's out for the count? I thought he was all-powerful now…
And I just came back from reading Deadman Wonderland...

Great chapter! Absolutely awesome! Here are my thoughts on this chapter guys (sorry if some of this has been discussed already I am posting this before I leave work):
Law is on the ground - How though? Could this be the effect of an all-powerful Haki? Perhaps an artificial one created by Vegapunk (if the shadowy figure is him)
Luffy and Laws heart cant be switched as per the theories flying around. I think everyone keeps forgetting that Luffy is a rubber-man. Therefore one heart is rubber and one isn't.
While Luffy and Law getting hit seems to have coincidental timing, I agree with the other posters here Luffy clutched at his throat and proceeded to pass out. On the other hand Law seems to be held to the ground by almost a gravity intensifying affect, as per my line above, could it be Haki?
The shoes are wrong for Aokiji - I am on the Vegapunk bandwagon:
Aokiji's shoes are on the left. Our new mystery guy's are on the right. As you can see Aokiji is clearly wearing an almost sneaker like shoe while Mr. Mystery seems to have a shoe much closer to a formal/dress shoe. -

He always leaves a cliffhanger when taking breaks, always.

actually if you watch the http://mangateers.com/manga/one-piece/671/5/ more closely its clear that Law leaves chopperbag (:ninja:) in that room and asks monet to follow him. Its more like he is taking her out of the room so chopper can investigate the room. How chopper will do that without being able to move is another question
-
It can't be Dofla-, the whole shoes, no-hunch, no-boa, no-swagger-thing kinda' fxcks it. Kuzan'd fit, physically, and also, since he's broken from the Marines, he could've gone into hiding on PH. I don't know how he'd 'freeze' Law to the ground though.
CC certainly did not take Luffy out there, I'm in agreement with this forum's fervour that Luffy and Law's pain's interconnected and when Law gone taken down, so did Luffy. Not the other way 'round. Fxck CC, basically, how'd he be able to conjure poisons more poisonous than Magellan. The fact that Magellan was the only Officer who could actually control the prisoners (which was a feature that pxssed me off endlessly during the Impel Down arc) at the time shows the power that he holds and there's no way that CC could overcome that. Yeah, he's a Logia, but we saw where that left Crapibou on FI.
2 week break? Fxck that. Wanna' find out who that cxnt with white shoes is!
-
I wouldn't be suprised if Mystery Man isn't revealed for a few more chapter until he runs into Luffy or the other SH's. I doubt it's haki, Raleigh's haki didn't even knock him out. We've yet to see haki used in that way. I'm going with the blood-blood fruit, that or maybe I'm watching too much Legend of Korra…
-
to everyone who is saying that luffy and law switched hearts, luffy was poisoned by Hyozou in fishmen island but nothing happened to him even though he had laws heart.
What has the poson got to do with switching hearts. Also…Luffy is immune to that poison from the fishmen as he said so in one of the chapters.
-
So who is Kinemon going to fight once he's back in one piece? I'm going for the mystery man. Then he'll show his awesome powers.

On top of that, remember Law's comment that CC's cruelty "reminded him of someone?" The Tenryubito are famous for their cruelty, so he might be remembering his former slave owner.
The biggest drawback to this is that the silhouette is clearly not wearing standard Tenryubito space-suit-gear, so its unlikely that this character is himself a world noble. However, "Joker" could be someone explicitly working under Law's former slave master instead, possibly as a mengele-style human scientist using purchased slaves for human experimentation.
In fact, come to think of it, the "Reminds me of someone" line came after CC explained the purpose of the candy, so it could be that "Joker" did something similar to his former slaves to prevent them from escaping, and has just now activated it on Law now that he's found him again, thus leaving Law crippled on the floor at his feet.

And on top of that even more, when "Joker" is first mentioned in Chapter 664, he gives permission to CC to kill the Straw Hats, and the G5. http://www.mangareader.net/one-piece/664/7
and would be able to make it look like an accident!
Who else is that above the law that much that they can order the deaths of the G5 AND the Straw Hats?A TENRYUBITO THATS WHO!!

Anyone else thought that luffy’s new speed feat was reminiscent of goku back when he escaped frieza’s explosion on namek?
Oda might do this more often.
Also, the reason luffy and law both fell at the same time probably has to do with what law said after they first met on punk hazard. I think it was something like:
“Go back to the research facility, you’ll find what you’re looking for there."
and
“We both have something we want to get back."
It's also good to know that luffy is now massively hypersonic.
-
Wait, is there even a solid reason why Law switches heart with Luffy? grabs popcorn

Seriously, I re-readed the whole auction house part of the Sabaody Arc just yesterday, and if Law is an ex-slave of a Tenryubito, then Oda didn't plan for it, or he didn't give away any hint at all from Law's behaviour. He was completely relaxed, indifferent and even acted badass and cool. It just doesn't add up for me that he's an ex slave, even more looking how he's shitting his pants at this supposed "ex master" appearing before him, when back then we didn't show any emotion, other than being slightly amused by Luffy punching a Tenryubito in front of him, and very little else.
Hell, just look at Boa, she fucking despised the Tenryubito, and just talking about their pasts as slaves was enough to make Sandersonia (or was it Marigold?) almost faint. It's not something you can fake by being completely relaxed, indifferent and not giving a shit about watching a slave auction with 3 Tenryubito under the same roof as you. . .

Law liked it when the Tenryubito got hit also he recruited and rescued a former slave into his crew however it's Joker but we don't know much about Joker apart from him being high up.

Aokiji is Joker.
After the fight with Akainu, and Aokiji lost, Aokiji 'became' deformed–mostly his face--and somewhat crazy. (This would mirror the Joker from Batman--hence his name--in various ways). lololololol =P
