Op op over OP-UH OP-UH or OP-EH OP-EH.
Op op perfect, ope ope crap.
Op op over OP-UH OP-UH or OP-EH OP-EH.
Op op perfect, ope ope crap.
Guys. It's pretty much "Op Op" in Japanese.
It's the first two characters of "Operate" in Japanese. "O" (オ) and "Pe" (ペ). I've never had to render "Operate" in Katakana, but I assume it's オペレット.
So if, in Japanese it's "The First two characters of Operate", how would that same rule look applied to English?
O and P.
yeah.
Seiously, complaining over something lik Op Op is like complaining about Gum-Gum and Gumo-Gumo.
Fans will always find reason to complain.
Heck, I bet on Japanese One Piece boards people complain about things, and they are getting it in their native language.
…. And what is weird about Op Op? It is the Operation Operation fruit. So I don't see anything wrong with it at all.
Mark my words; Different.
Hahahaha.
Op op is perfect, whats a piece of crap is ope ope. Zolo is nothing, Waboshi you proibably prefer Shiryu over Shiliew don't you?
Lol yeah, personally I think Shillew is a pretty bad romanization. But as I don't read the SJA translations (Not american nor canadian) Im not normally bugged by this kind of issues.
Seiously, complaining over something lik Op Op is like complaining about Gum-Gum and Gumo-Gumo.
Still, Im not complaining -.-
I would not question Stephen Paul's translations lest you incur his wrath of a thousand and one hell hounds.
Imma take this advice from now on :ninja:

I know i do, it just sounds much better and it has dragon in it so it sounds fine to me. And op op is good as well, as long as it sounds similar thats all that should really matter, and like many others when reading ill just read it the way i want it to be anyway its not that big of a deal. Although i do get mad seeing "hordy" in the simulcast episodes lol
Mark my words; Different.
Different from…what, exactly? It was already spelled out as being more-or-less the same it both languages, so whether you're complaining or not, I'd recommend dropping it.

Lets just drop the point.
Considering the reasons you were stating were trivial in the first place. Yeah i do agree in saying we should drop it

Oh, from the 11th volume of Bakuman, the next three volumes are set to release each month. Guess with the manga ending, they are speeding it up. Oh perhaps not. I don't know what's going on.
Probably a plan to catch up to Alpha with Bakuman…though the series ending does make it seem kind of pointless.
I translated 13 and 14 btw.
Whoa, so Bakuman's really ending on this! I've haven't read much of it in Alpha since I want a chance to catch up on it, but wow, I'm gonna miss it. Here's hoping they get something equally good to fill it's spot in Alpha, or at least something; having only 5 regular series would make it an even harder sell.
I would have wanted HXH, but since that is on Hiatus X Hiatus right now I will just say I'd like a new manga series. Because honestly, while I know people want Gintama, it just doesn't sell well. Not to mention, no fan who legally reads Shonen Jump manga legally would know the full story. Yes the anime's out, but it already ended…twice. And Reborn is just a dead case(I don't even know if that's still running).
I wonder if the Japanese side is planning any big new series from established artists to fill the void. If that's the case, SJA might just take a gamble on running a new one from the beginning. It would be a neat experiment, and a chance to examine how well the weekly digital serialization format can grow an audience from the ground up.
Well, where is that new manga from the guy who did Akira going? I heard that it was going to Jump, but someone here (I think Robby) said that it was going to whatever magazine had Negima.
Neither, that series is in Shonen Sunday.

Yes, seems pointless. Just to be nice, perhaps. Also awesome that the last two japanese volumes are beibg released together. Double treat.
I get confused with names, but pretty sure you are the guy people were glad would be translating. As I'll be buying both all B volumes, thank you for the good work :D

Beezlebub!

lol i was close i guess
But yeah, I'm not sure why Beel hasn't been released here yet. Really want it released.
Do they need to have another series?
I mean I'd cast my vote for Gintama but the manga has been cancelled by VIZ so I don't see that happening. They could do Hunter X Hunter and use chapters from before the hiatus until the hiatus ends. It would suck for people who already read said chapters before but I'd prefer an official translation since no two scanlations have been able to keep two things in check. But we'll see. Bakuman。 is ending in what, two weeks in SJ Alpha? We'll hear something in that issue I bet if not before with one of the editors revealing it on twitter.
I'm going to miss Bakuman。 greatly though. Reading it from start to finish it's been one great adventure. I thought it would go on a little more after Azuki landed the dream role but I guess there's nothing more to cover.
Are they going to do a rapid release for Toriko?
Not sure if anyone finds this as cool as I do (and I am not even sure if this is the right thread to be posting this) but Barnes&noble.com has One Piece volumes 63-64-65 available for pre-order at about half their retail price. Good deal.

Question for those who collect the printed volumes: what kind of paper does Viz use? Comparing visually it seems to be about the same quality as the stuff used in the japanese volumes, except a bit thicker.
Is it alkaline (acid free) or are they still using cheap acidic paper? Main reason I ask is because it seems like a pretty bad idea to buy 100+ volumes of OP as the series keeps coming out, only to have them turn yellow and brittle 5-10 years down the road.
I have a couple volumes of I''s, one dating back to 1997 which are pretty darn yellow by now.
To add insult to injury Viz may re-release the series later (once it concludes) on proper quality paper for a higher price, and I don't know if I'd be willing to spend upwards of $1000 to buy the while thing again.
My older One Piece volumes are starting to yellow in spite of being in individual bags and as well taken care of as possible. The volumes that sit on the shelves at my local BnN's yellow much faster.
If and when Viz re-releases One Piece in a better addition I'll probably buy it regardless. One Piece is my shit.

Ehh, I'll likely buy it too despite my griping, thought that'll be another 10-15 years before it finishes, hopefully. From what I hear isn't it standard practice in Japan to re-release the finished series in archival from on higher quality stock?
EDIT: No, I guess it isn't very widespread. Some googling revealed those editions are called kanzenban, bigger format (like the one Viz uses) and more chapters per book along with better paper.
One Piece volume 62 shipped from bookdepository on Monday; arrived here in Norway today. Post has seemed to be so much quicker of late.
Beautiful cover =D

I voted for Beelzebub, Sket Dance and Gintama to make it known that I want those titles to be released (or return in Gintama's case). I can live without Hunter x Hunter in Alpha.
Also, I got my volume 62 today. After holding it in my hands, it's probably my favorite volume cover. I love this one so much.
I voted on beelzebub, sket dance, Gintama, Magico, Kurogane
Just got volume 62 a couple of days ago and two things are bothering me.
1 - I have to many pages where the ink is very light. Some of the word bubbles are even hard to read. I have experienced this before but never to this extent. I am probably just unlucky but I would still like to see Viz tighten up their quality control.
2 - Why are they referring to this arc as 'The New World'? The name of the arc should be Fishman Island. For example, on the back it says 'The New World part 2.' That doesn't really make any sense. Unless 'The New World' is a saga that will encompass several arc like the East Blue or Arabasta did. Otherwise TNW is just the branch of ocean that the Strawhats are going to be on for the remainder of the series.
The most recent volumes all have the arc name on the back: Paramount War part 2 ~ Impel Down Part 3 ~ Amazon Lilly part 1 etcect.

Didn't it say you had to choose three? Either way I chose Hunter X Hunter, magico, and Medaka Box.
I just want Hunter X Hunter in the hopes that they'll do a reprint of volumes 8, 9, 14, and 18.
I chose Gintama,Hunter X Hunter and Medaka Box. Though I don't read any of this, I am interested them at the very least and friends who like these series.

Besides hxh I couldn't decide what to choose, and hxh is on hiatus so that sucks. I dropped katekyo but am willing to pick it back up, gintama seems pretty funny, I saw a couple eps of kurokos basket it's pretty good. Meh
At least we know some changes are sure to come this month as far as series and sja in general.

Yes it did. Wonder if I messed something up then
Edit: Just checked and it definitely allows you to select more than 3, so I don't think my slip up is a big deal
I would have voted Hunter x Hunter, but it's already being released in volume format, and it's on hiatus so I'd rather another series get priority.

You're not just unlucky. My copy of 62 has really bad printing as well. It made me very sad.
I chose Beelzebub, Sket Dance and Kurogane.
Beelzebub, because I'm not totally happy with the German version, Sket Dance, because I just want it, and Kurogane, because I don't think that will ver be release here.
I know HxH is on hiatus and likely to go on more hiatuses in the future, but I just had to pick it. Mostly because it is the only one of the listed series that I read, but also because it is awesome. The other series I picked are Medaka Box and Sket Dance, because I would like to read this if they are licensed in English.

Who knows but it was Shueisha or even Oda who chose "New World". http://www.onepieceatatimeblog.com/2011/05/interview-piece-alexis-kirsch-part-2.html

Or it could be another mistake like vol. 57 initially having been titled Impel Down.
I also got the volume 62 today, and the print is a little light in a few places, mostly noticeable with text, but otherwise on par with all the other ones in my possession.
The art being more detailed and using finer lines is part of the reason, the fact that Viz chose to print the volumes in larger format than the Japanese release is really growing on me.
I voted for Gintama ('cause that's one series that ought to get a second chance), Pajama na Kanojo (which I saw in a Japanese Jump and thought it looked interesting) and Nisekoi (which is pretty decent from what I've read so far).
I picked up volume 62 today. I too noticed several pages were printed very lightly…the text was a little hard to read. Every copy in B&N had the same problem on the same pages. It must be the entire first printing of volume 62 that suffers from this problem =/
Okay, so from what I've heard, the filler in Skypiea is really terrible at times, and I'm just about to be there. I was wondering, what is the general consensus here on the Viz translation quality?

This is the manga forum, no? There isn't anything in manga that I would call filler, and I don't think there was much of it in anime in that arc either.

Occasional error here and there, weird kami/god issue in Skypiea, Zolo, lack of harsh cursing (which I don't miss), in general it's well translated and according to people familiar with the original, accurate. My 2 cents.
Though I am sure you'll get a wide range of opinions, there isn't really a consensus on it.
Not sure if it was in Skypie alone, but I remember during the speed-up people mentioning how Chopper's attacks often switched between Boosts and Points.

Yes, I was talking about the anime.
My volume of One Piece 62 did have some pages where the text ink was light, but it was still readable. More bothersome were two instances of small ink blotches. Thankfully, none of the art was ruined and only one word was obscured by the blotches, but I was still able to figure out what it said. Forgiveable, but I don't want to see it again.
So does anyone have any insight as to what exactly this Rurouni Kenshin Reboot is? I know it's still done by Watsuki Sensei but it said in the ad on the final page of this week's issue it's printed in JUMP SQ, which is monthly. Which in turn means that it'll only be in JUMP Alpha once a month, having a complete 6 series only one week out of the month. Still weird they went with that instead of an actual JUMP series. I would've loved Gintama, especially since I'm almost caught up with it.

I'm pretty disappointed by the decision. Its pretty glaringly obvious that they're doing this to capitalize off the success the series already had in the US, but honestly I think it'd be better to pick something new, especially since I don't think the new rurouni kenshin thing will last many chapters.

Shonen Jump said on their twitter that they made this decision a while ago and "More news to come in the next few months, so stay tuned!"
So we may get a new weekly series soon.
I'm personally fine with it. I've already read Rurouni Kenshin and I like the series, truly, it's very good. Obviously with the massive hype of the live-action movie on it's final phase of production before it hits theaters this summer, Shueisha is trying to restore it's popularity.
But I mean if they were gonna use a JUMP SQ series, they should have used Blue Exorcist. It seems to get great reception based on the sales figures that Firecrouch kindly posts. We'll see. I don't think Rurouni Kenshin Reboot will be very long of a series. After all, Watsuki Sensei put his current series on hiatus because Shueisha wanted him to do this; so he has to get back to that as soon as possible.
