I've recently become somewhat involved with a gal (huzzah) who's never read much of it but is a bit interested in manga. At least she's open minded about it. I think it'd be great to find some for her to enjoy so that it isn't "that weird comic shit prolix_purlieu's into", but am having a hard time coming up with stuff. I'll obviously recommend One Piece but I feel like a 600-something page monstrosity like that, especially one which is kind of boyishly themed, might better wait a bit.
So I'm looking for short series, one-shots, that sort of thing, which are artistic, immersive, bizarre. So far she's liked the works of Junji Ito quite a bit, for instance. Stylistically similar things which come to mind are Homonculus and Dorohedoro, I guess, but I want a better-rounded body of works than that. Maybe something like Memories of Emanon, too… Idunno. Hard to say. Anything come to mind for a newish but very open-minded manga reader? Heck, maybe I'll find something good in the process.
Thanks.
