Oooh, thanks for bringing up Metal Gear Solid AND Castlevania AND Ico/Shadow of the Colossus
There's too much I've missed out on.~

I've been with MGS since MGS1. Castlevania-wise, I've played all the games I've wanted to play. I beat Ico this past November, and I have Shadow of the Colossus available, but my brother-in-law has borrowed it. I can always borrow it back, but I have plenty to play at the moment.
No, the original MGS is 3D, it was released on the Playstation. There's really no reason that I can see why they wouldn't do it but they didn't.
IIRC if you buy the special HD collection from Zavvi in the UK you get 1 and 4 as downloads.
Guys, don't forget the thread is more about TRYING games you haven't played than it is listing games you refuse to play or bashing game series/genres. >_> Don't derail it.
My bad. I wasn't intentionally trying to derail the thread or hate on the series I listed, but I was listing CoD/BF/MoH with a negative connotation. Not so for Zelda or MGS.
Anyhow, I never played OoT until last year and haven't touched the other 3D-environment Zelda games. For me, that's just not what Zelda is; Zelda is a top-down action game with inventory-driven action and puzzles, almost like a dungeon-crawling slow-paced shmup. I like those, and was hesitant to try the "new Zelda." Anyhow, I tried the GC port of Ocarina and thought it was quite good. I'm planning on starting up Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, or both of those two games later this year. I'm less interested in Majora's Mask and don't want to drop cash on Skyward Sword.

This reminds me of a friend of mine who thinks they should have stopped at A Link To The Past, and thinks that none of the 3D Zelda games live up to it, although I'm fairly certain he's only played a little bit of OoT.
I didn't bring that up to diss on you, but actually show some joy in that you're at least giving the other games a try instead of assuming they're not as good as the previous installments.
Anywho, I've barely played a Final Fantasy game. I got about an hour into FF1 and FFIV, but that was about it, and then work and school picked up around that time. I really liked what I played in IV, though. The only thing I didn't like was that I bought a used copy so no manual came with it, and I was unsure how to replenish magic and I found out how to run from battle only by accident.
Have fun with Metal Gear Hiroy. A great and smart series. Some of the gameplay design is still far ahead of it's time.
never played a resistance title. Does someone have experience with that? I'm not a big fan of shooters but I love good narrative, which i heard the resistance games have. Doesn't matter if the story behind said narrative isn't the most original or super strong. As examples I really loved games like Half Life 2, Bioshock, Uncharted which had strong narration even if the story wasn't the most amazing thing ever.
(because it may be a little ambigious, I'm using "story" not as the synonym to narrative but I'm rather referring to its function as a descriptive of a sequence of events described in a narrative)
I can't think of any BIG game series that I've never played. Hmmmm. Never played either Starcraft or Half Life games. But it's not really something that appeals to me.
I've owned A Boy and His Blob on the Wii for about 3 years now and it's still in the packet. Maybe I could try that?
Y'know, that reminds me, I still have Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn still in it's packaging. I should finish Path of Radiance and get a move on!
@Mr.:

Use Nephenee. Always use Nephenee!
EDIT: Well, use other characters as well. Nephenee is just…beyond fucking awesome. You'll get her during a prison break out. Everyone else is pretty much up to you to use, especially in Radiant Dawn where every character is usable except two, really.
Never played Ico, SOTC, MGS, FF or Chrono Trigger, or Earthbound, or any Elder Scrolls. I've been missing out on a lot of games. I'll probably emulate the SNES ones tho.
Something I just wanna mention about my experiences with trying games.
It's nearly always the games that are largely ignored or overlooked that I try and love. Nier I knew nothing about aside from it being made by Square and it being cheap to buy. Boom. One of my faves. Xenoblade I knew tiny snippits about. Boom. One of my faves. I bought Suikoden 2 on a whim after the first gamefaqs best game ever tourny in which it took on Final Fantasy VII (and lost) and that was my only knowledge of the game XD Again. Boom. One of my faves. Fire Emblem I only got cus of Roy and Marth in SSBM. One of my faves.
On the otherhand a lot of the games I heard so much about I tend to not enjoy as much. Portal 2 is one that came instantly to mind. It wasn't bad, hell I enjoyed the campaign (or what little there was of one.) but would I rank as one of the best games ever? errrr no. Same goes for Red Dead. Huge reception. Just kinda felt it to be an average game (didn't stop me from playing the hell out of it tho.)
Despite being a die hard fan of One Piece I have never played a One Piece video game. Never found one (that came to America) that looked good.

Unlimited Adventure for the Wii is pretty damn good, but I'm sure it's not easy to find now. If you find it, great, if not, meh.
Otherwise, consider getting translated games on an emulator.

I think I see your problem. All the ones you listed as your favorites are RPGs and the ones that aren't are not RPGs .
Outside of RPGs games are typically pretty short nowadays. Portal 2 was the sequel to pretty much what amounts to a four hour long experiment so Valve should be commended on making it what it is. I don't know about you but it took me over ten hours to beat Portal 2 which is a decent length game for these days.
Despite being a die hard fan of One Piece I have never played a One Piece video game. Never found one (that came to America) that looked good.
There aren't very many that are worth getting to be honest. I consider the Grand Battle games to be the pinnacle of One Piece games but they refuse to make any of more of them for whatever reason. Unlimited Adventure was decent and I haven't played Unlimited Cruise since it was never released in the US.
Oh I didn't say Portal 2 was bad. It just wasn't the cure for cancer that everyone makes it out to be. Found it to just be a simple puzzler with Steven Merchant's awesomeness thrown in.

:OOOOOOO, Wtf?, You need to go to amazon right now and do yourself the favor of getting many of these games. Ico and SOTC are probably some of the most beautiful looking adventure and puzzle games ever created. Metal Gear Solid is the best tactical series you will ever come across (3 is my personal favorite). Final Fantasy…....how? Well if you never have, I suggest you play 4,6, 8, 9, 10, or 12 (12 is by far the most expansive when it comes to side quests and will keep you busy for a long time. 6 and 10 have the best stories, 10 made me sad lol. The others are just plain fantastic.) Every other game is either overrated (7) or based on preference (I have every main final fantasy game on various systems). CT is a good game if you can get a hold of it. Never played earth bound and I really dont like Elder Scrolls so I cant tell you about that.
I will suggest Shin Megami Tensei however. Truly an epic story to most of the games and gameplay is fun as hell. OH and you better try out Okami.
Lol, well no moneys, man. I could try emulating some of these but I still don't know how to emulate PS2 or PS1 games, or GC for that matter.

I can say from experience, unless you have a pretty high end computer and are willing to do a lot of work, emulating PS2 isn't worth it. Mine has been installed on my computer for two years now, and I'm still trying to get it working as well as real PS2.

It doesnt need to be THAT high end. Any new computer or laptop these days bought from Dell and the like will have an integrated Video card that can run ps2 games. If not dude, you can always get Swap magic. It allows you to play burned games on a normal ps2 (though i only use it for imported games.)
Oh, and you can find a lot of these games for pretty cheap. I bought FF9 off of amazon last year for 13 bucks. 10 and 12 should be cheaper than that, as well as SOTC. Shin megami tensei IS VERY expensive if you want to try those games.

Well, I built my computer specifically for gaming, and as I said, it still doesn't run as nicely as I'd like it too. I would try to find the games cheap, like you said, and have emulation as a backup plan.
The most important thing is the cpu for emulating. In my experience 3.4 ghz quad core can emulate almost everything (ps2/wii/gc). If there are still problems they most likely are based on the emulation software.
That's probably my problem then. My cpu is only 2.8 ghz.
Most PS2 games don't need high end computers but there are a few, like MGS3 and Shadow of the Colossus that don't play very well even on a really good computer.
I know about that Magic Swap stuff. I hacked my PS2 slim (just added some chips and shit and did a little technique to hold some parts in place) so it could play imported PS2 games. I still have Grand Battle Rush. I used to play the shit out of it.
Anyway, I finally played TF2 for real now and it's pretty damn fun. I'm awful but I'm getting better. Not used to mouse and keyboard. I wanted to use the 360 controller but the right analog stick won't work and IDK how to make it work (Any help, Zona? lol)
The thing is, "high end" just keeps on getting higher. My computer was "high end" when I built it, but I wouldn't call it that anymore. In the end, if you can play it on a real PS2, go for that first.
On topic, I'm getting Ico when it hits PSN tomorrow. I'll leave impressions after I've started playing it.

If you go to the key binding screen does it acknowledge that the controller is plugged in? Is it only the right stick that doesn't work? If you are going to use a controller I think you're going to get killed. You might as well just learn to use the KB+M.

That's how technology works.
That's how technology works.
I know. I just wish it was easier to keep up with. It feels like I just built my computer, and it's already being bogged down by games like Rage and Skyrim. My computer currently has the side panel off and a table fan blowing into it, because the graphics card kept over heating, despite having FIVE fans, six if you include the one on the graphics card itself.

FFX spoilers
I was sad when Auron left but celebrated when Tidus dissapeared(until X-2 that is).
That's weird. I've had my computer for nearly a year and have no problem playing anything but the least optimized of games (such as Metro 2033). What graphics card is it that you have? I've never had any problems with overheating either.
Sapphire Radeon HD 5770. And my computer never shows any signs of overheating until it blacks out and my moniter tells me there is no signal, at which point I have to turn the computer off and let it sit for a while to get it back. It's only happened when playing certain games, and it hasn't happened since I took off the panal and set up the fan, but that's not a good solution.
Huh, 5770 is a good card I think. I wouldn't think it would any hotter than a 5870 which is what I have. Rage I might imagine it running somewhat poorly but it should be able to play Skyrim really well. Here's a benchmark and it should be able to play it on high without AA at above 60 FPS. Maybe it's a faulty card. Rage on maximum settings should run really well too. Maybe your CPU or RAM is the problem and not your card.

Depending on what kind of coolers you have a full clean up might help.
I used to have a very similar problem(whole pc just blacked out) cleaning my cpu cooler helped.
Took me a whole week of frustration to figure it out…
Well, I check system requirements for games before I purchase them, so I know my cpu and ram meet the required, and usually the recommended, settings for games I play. I'll keep looking into it.

I did that the first time it happened. The computer was full of dust, so I figured that was the problem. I guess not…

Trust me, its not your cpu. I use a laptop primarily for BF3, running at 50-60 fps with 2.1ghz quad core processor. But maybe its also because I have a high end Gpu as well. It could be just the emulators.

What has that to do with emulators?
Your laptop will most likely not be able run an emulator for last gen consoles, simple as that.
BF3 is by now means a benchmark for that because that is a game programmed for the PC where as an emulator has to emulate the whole architecture as well as the game which is the reason in requires so much core processing.
Emulators are most of the time not relient on your gpu.
The only emulator that I know of that requires not only a very good cpu but also a decent graphicscard is dolphin.
Been playing more Pokemon. I beat Misty. Son of a bitch, that water cannon thing was monstrous. I managed to win with the combined team work of my Pikachu and Oddish. Thank god.
I think I'm stuck at the moment. I'm supposed to get on some kind of cruise, but I'm blocked off by trees that I'm supposed to cut. I don't have any Pokemon with the 'Cut' move yet. Maybe I should level Charmeleon some more.

You get Cut on the cruise. If you are talking about the trees east of Cerulean City, you have to go south first to Vermillion City. That is where the cruise is.

Cut, along with strength, surf, fly and a couple others that do stuff on the map is a taught move, things don't learn it naturally. You'll ge the HMs (which are reusable) for those as you go through the story. (Surf is one of THE best moves in the game, incidentally.) However, you can't delete those moves (not without help) so once you put it on a critter, it stays there.
Generally if you get to an impassable obstacle, it means you're supposed to backtrack a bit to a different area… or run around town and solve a few problems.
Okay, I just noticed where Sorikai is pointing me towards. Heh, my bad. I just caught a Meowth, so I'm leveling him a bit before I leave.
Good deal. Thanks guys.

Well im sure its because dolphin emulates wii games, correct? Well, the laptop runs SOTC and many other ps2 games favorably, but thats all I can say then about emulating. Dont really play wii, besides LoZ.
I'm going to finally get off my arse and try Wind Waker this weekend, maybe Friday night if I don't go out. It was one of the games that came with my GameCube, which I got back in 2006, and I've never touched it. The other game I got with it was Metroid Prime, and I haven't played that either….
Hey guys. I just wanted to let you guys know how I'm doing with Pokemon, but also, I have a new game I'm trying out: Dragon Age.
Pokemon:
[hide]I think I've gotten pretty damn far. Granted, I'm play Fire Red, so there are certain Pokemon I can't catch, but soon, I'm going to pick up Leaf Green so my Fire Red copy can have a complete capture list.
Right now, my main party consists of:
Charizard (lv 42)
Pidgeot (lv 37)
Gloom (lv 36) (Going to make her a Bellosom once I get a Sunstone)
Golduck (lv 36)
Raichu (lv 40)
Kadabra (lv 41)
Currently, I'm at the Pokemon Mansion. I'm glad I've been able to finally catch Koffing and Grimer. I've also managed to catch some rare Pokemon so far, like Kangaskhan (fuck Safari Zone) and Articuno (fuck Seafoam Islands). So I'm doing pretty good so far. Pokemon Mansion has been tough so far, so I'm think I'm going to stop and train my team some.
Two questions:
-I'm assuming that the Pokemon Mansion (or somewhere in that area) will teach me 'Fly'. I'm correct, right?
-After saving the city from Team Rocket, I got a Master Pokeball that apparently is supposed to be the most powerful Pokeball. Is this the only one I can get in the game? If so, should I save it for a hard Pokemon like MewTwo?
Thanks.

Dragon Age:
[hide]Now, I've gotten a bit further in this game. I chose to be a human, female mage. I just got to Lothering. Already, I have Alistair, Morrigan, and the dog. I just now added Leliana, but I have a question about her. Otherwise, I'm probably going to work towards saving Sten. However, I've now learned that you can only have a maximum of four characters. I'm a tad upset by this, but through this, I have some questions.
1. I like Alistair. I mean, I really, really, really like Alistair. I mean, I tried not to like him like everyone else does, but my god, did I fail that mission so fucking hard. So chances are, he's probably never leaving my team. Is there anything bad that could come of this? I honestly feel like every decision I make will destroy everything for me, so I want to be careful. And yes, I do intend for romance with him.
2. I'm already a mage, so would it be bad to NOT include Morrigan. I do like her, but I feel like my team needs variety. Then again, I've mostly been a healer than a mage, so maybe she should stay.
3. The dog. Are the benefits of having him travel with you really that good? I heard he could find items for you, but I don't know if I want to take up a team member slot for that.[/hide]

I'd save the Master Ball for MewTwo since it is the only MB you'll get in the game and MewTwo can be a bitch. At least that's what I always did. The legendary birds are more or less easy to catch with Hyper Balls. But make sure to save before fighting one of them.

! 1. There's no need to worry right away, there's only 1 choice in the entire game that can make you lose Alistair, and that is pretty late in. Problem is i can't really say where it is out of fear of spoiling you…..
2. Mages are incredibly overpowered in that game, i always kept as many mages in as possible. There's no need to fear outbalancing your party as long as you keep 1 tank person around wich i'd assume is Alistair of you.
I don't really know about 3, i mainly kept just my mages around and left everyone else for what they were.

I'd strongly recommend saving your Master Ball for Mewtwo, who you can only battle in the post-Elite 4 game. Trust me, you are going to have a hard time catching him without it.
Actually you're kind of far away to where Fly is. Go back to Celadon City and exit left as if you were going to Cycling Road (aka go to Route 16). Before entering Cycling Road there should be a tree you can Cut. Do so and you'll eventually find a house where a woman will give you HM02 for Fly.
Just started the Phoenix wright games to get closer to his roots. I like using him in UMvC3 so I felt this was appropriate.
Wonderful series with great music! Music is a must for me in games!!

You don't need to be shackled by one team for the whole game. You end up getting eight or nine characters total (IIRC - it depends if you bought the game new or used or if it's Ultimate Edition) and switching between them is encouraged. Really, though, you should always have a rogue handy for lockpicking (either the Warden, Leliana, or the third one that joins after you've beaten one quest line) and at least one or two mages. Warriors aren't key, especially because one build of mage is better at tanking than an SnS warrior. The Dog, while entertaining, isn't a great team member. He barely ever gets new talents, and the lack of good gear really hurts him.
The way I see it, just keep Alistair around all the time and make sure you have a rogue around. Alistair and Leliana have pretty good plot synergy with each other since they're both aligned towards good and to the Chantry and will generally like you more for saving people instead of exploiting them. Your fourth character could be another mage, another warrior, whatever you want. Alistair is a great tank, so you could go with a big damage character like a mage built for offense or the DLC character (comes for free with Ultimate Edition or new copies of the game).
I have the Ultimate Edition, so I'll probably have a big cast to choose from.
I'm slowly realizing that you might be right about the dog, so for now, I'm probably going to include Morrigan instead. And yeah, Lelina is going to stay in my party for a while. Girl has gotten me plenty of free stuff so far.
The DLC that comes with Ultimate Edition only adds one party member, but it's one of my favorite party members. The rest of the DLC is a mixed bag: Warden's Keep gets you the strongest sword in the game, Return to Ostagar gets you a good armor set, and Awakening is an expansion pack that's actually worth playing. The rest of the DLC isn't really worth it.
If you haven't begun a quest line yet, I recommend doing the Mages' Tower first (you get a lot of bonus stat points and a mage party member) followed by Honnleath (the DLC party member). With that you'll have a great selection of characters to choose from. Orzammar + The Anvil gets you another 2H warrior party member that's a little better than Sten, but the mage and the DLC char are better. Brecilian Forest and Redcliffe + The Urn let you unlock some pretty good mage and warrior specializations, but other than that they aren't that special in terms of party members or gear.
