That´s some very tremendous skill of observation you´ve got there Cakeduck. Thanks for sharing that little fact with us.
I didn't notice it myself though ;D
people were talking about it on 2ch, and it's pretty damn awesome.
I knew that I'd seen that Brag Men somewhere before, but I couldn't think of when it was.
I even checked almost every chapter since Spandam first appeared on the off-chance that he was reading it somewhere, but I never thought that it would appeared that long ago.
Romantic fiction… I never would have even thought about it being in Merry's library.
How interesting… "Brag Men," huh? I noticed the title in that chapter, but like Ubiq, I never thought it would be more than two hundred chapters ago. Nice find, 2chan team and Cakeduck.
The question becomes, though, is Oda just throwing in an Easter Egg or is he trying to link something to us? I'd lean to the former, but with Oda... >.>
if it's romantic fiction, then it might only be a popular novel. i think it's probably the same with the doskoi panda thingy. popular brand, popular novel. potatoes, potahtoes.
but it is a highly interesting find.
Maybe it's like Pandaman. Try to find the Brag Men romantic novel in every panel.
That'd be something cool to search for in the other volumes.
i have a mental image of Robin reading Brag Men alone and laughing silently to herself.
dereshishishi…
damn. i was googling the name of the book when the chapter came out but couldn't find anything. XD
anyway, could cobra possibly collect all the books from the remains of the ohara and keep it in his library? after all, books in merii's shelves are all from him. alabasta has a poneglyph too, so it wouldn't be surprising if cobra at one time in the past had gone to ohara, collect all the remaining books, and read them all in order to figure out what the poneglyph say.
if i don't recall wrong, he told nami "yeah, i have no use of these anymore, i've read them all" after the incident, in which robin already told him what was written in the stone.
if the theory about the "all-out open world war against the world government" proves to be true, it wouldn't be surprising if alabasta becomes the leading nation in the revolution.

This is from Little Garden, though… Way before Alabasta or Cobra.
From the way the scene was set up, I always thought it was simply the book in which Nami finds the info on Little Garden, written down by that Louis Arnote character. And I guess that would make sense -- Why wouldn't a book of that type be in the world's largest library? However, it says ''romantic fiction'' which really wouldn't make much sense either way...
I honestly can't say I have any idea what Oda means by throwing this at us. I'm almost positive someone will send in a question to the SBS about it, though, so I'll just wait and see.
The 'fiction romance' cracks me up every time I look at it.
I think it might be an assistant's joke, though. Kind of like the Sailormoon wig in DBF.

hmm… i see.
either way, that means someone took all the books out from that lake. who and why? that'd be interesting =D
Holy crap, Oda has freaked me out once again.
I swear some of the things that man does are just plain scary. This is up there with Kokoro's warning.
o.O Very nice find, indeed. Yeah, it'll be great if Cobra collected those Ohara books o.o

umm…i don't know this one...remind me plz
If this really is intended, it beggs the question how much of the story was actually mapped out and how many other tidbits of information are there out there for us to catch and see looking back. Usopp's fish tale comes to mind…

Not necessarily; it's labeled "fiction romantic" (but not in the same sense as a Harlequin novel) and should be available from any number of sources as a result unlike some of the historical volumes that were at Ohara.
It might be something along the lines of The Story of Norland; despite the inherent truth contained within the pages, it's dismissed as being fanciful or outright lies for whatever reason. Of course, it could just be a fictionalized account of an expedition across the Grand Line by a party led by a certain Louis Arnote.
Recovering and restoring that many books is a major project; someone like Cobra could easily have the necessary resources, but you have to wonder if the World Government would even let someone do such a thing. They've probably kept an eye on Ohara on the chance that Robin went back there.

The quote that started out the "Oda's Foreshadowing Thread"
Chapter 323, Stephen's scripts.
Nami: Here we go, then!
Thanks for all the info, Cocoro and Chimney!!Luffy: Prepare to sail, boys!!
Crew: YEAH!!!
Chimney: Take care!!
Cocoro: Look out fer them government officials!!

Hahahahaha! My mom used to write for Harlequin. I keep forgetting it's a famous company :XD: She does mystery novels now

I dunno, after they knew she was with Baroque works? They seem to have had her movememnts pretty well traced even right after she got off Ohara. Plus, Cobra doesn't necessarily have to tell the govt….
Makes you wonder what else they have in there huh?
Maybe it's the perfect "hidden in plain sight": the most popular work of fiction in the OP world happens to contain a valuable key to the True History or One Piece's location.

And Louis Arnote was a member of Roger's crew. [/sarcasm]
@_Meh_:

For a while there, I actually wondered if that was supposed to be some sort of Gol D. Roger biography or something, but the Expedition Leader Louis Arnote suggests that isn't the case.
There's the slight possibility that Brag Men might have been a book published by the Oharan expedition as a way to raise money. Of course, that would be pretty stupid of them seeing as how the World Government might be interested in a book about a bunch of archaeologists traveling the Grand Line, "fictional" or not.
If Louis Arnote really was leader of the Oharan expedition, it would make some sense. He was the one who named Little Garden; normally, I imagine, the Blue Seas don't want to risk traveling the Grand Line due to the dangers that everyone says are (and that really are) there. Ohara and the second Norland expedition seem to be exceptions, Ohara for the necessity of learning history and Norland for finding Calgara's City of Gold (which ended up with Norland being executed).
I would like to throw out the idea that Louis Arnote was a member of some as-of-yet unnamed expedition to traverse the Grand Line, and discover its secrets (Raftel, All Blue…). The thing would be, they would either have had to give up or be chased away by some force in order for the book "Brag Men" to be published; otherwise, they'd have been dead before the expedition came to a head. Alternatively, Arnote could've been a World Government-authorized scholar, who journeyed the Grand Line. If he was from Ohara, of course, he'd have been killed... But I would probably lean towards a WG-sanctioned expedition.
(I have no idea what I'm talking about)
On page 4 of chapter 397….
The book "Brag Men" is seen being thrown into the lake by the Ohara scholars.
Its the same book Nami used to look up Little Garden in Vol.13!
These little details never fail to impress me, I'll have to check it out eventually.
There was already a thread like this. But yeah its awesome.
dig up the other thread, then PM me, i'll merge these two together. i'm too lazy for it <_<
Here it is.
Woah nice find! Looks like Nami had a copy of that book.
Nami must know more than I think
GREAT find there Cake! Hopefully Oda will tie this together someday. I've been waiting for him to fill us in on the explorers one day.
