Holy shit, Otters 11 is going to be novelized?!?
Bakuman
-
-
Good chapter. Loved the facial expressions, especially the Hattori's "Game face" and Hiramaru and Nakai's "Game Face". Also, looks like Otters 11 is getting a novel. A series about an Otter in a suit whose fists turn into rocks that he punches people with to solve problems… golden win.
-
It's finally coming to a close! The final showdown with Eiji and getting married to Azuki! It's been a little too long coming, but I hope the finale is spectacular.
-
I think it's kind of stupid that instead of avoid repeating the same mistake he's doing the exact same thing as his uncle. Oh well.
-
Great chapter, the last ones have been as well… I got super sad reading the first note on Nobuhiro's diary :( to think that he was never able to do it... but yeah, he made some stupid decisions, but it's still sad.
-
Great chapter. Been saying it for a while, but I'd be amazed if this series isn't gearing up for the end. This is all just screaming final arc and resolution. I wonder how much time we have left? Even with its ocassional lows, its my second favorite series running.

Shame it'll never get translated. I would read it.
@Lazy:

But he's not though. He actually told his girl how he felt and they got engaged at the start, and have stayed in contact and agreement about it this whole time. He'd be repeating the mistake if now, 8 years later, he still hadn't told her and she had no idea.
It is stupid that they so stubbornly insist on an anime, (something out of their control) as opposed to something like "Have 100 chapters in a row published", but thats the way ALL the characters in this manga roll.
-
That's a good point. They are all ridiculously stubborn, luckily this isn't the type of manga to make a huge depressing twist at the end (I don't think).
-
At this point it's a given with the anime since they've stopped focusing on Azuki and her voice acting career. At this point it seems she'll just get the job with maybe one lil obstacle.

I'm just wondering how their final showdown with Eiji will go down. I mean, it can't just be "let's beat him for the sake of beating him". Their chances of getting an anime must be on the line somehow.
Shame it'll never get translated. I would read it.
Well hey, I mean, we don't KNOW that. I mean, Viz did translate several Fullmetal Alchemist novels and the Deathnote novel.
-
Have you read this?It's hilarious.

What the hell is with that translation? Is Mangafox in the habit of just making up their own dialogue?
-
I think it's supposed to be a joke. Or someone else put up a joke version, and mangafox fell for it.
Also, thinking about his uncle's studio, does anyone else forsee a fire breaking out/earthquake that ruins the studio? It would be the type of obstacle that happens in Bakuman.
-

It's a troll joke scan.
-
That was some funny shit
-
That's just an english translation made from a chinese translation made from japanese original. You clearly see the Jojohot watermarks.
And Mangafox don't do scanlations. It's just another online manga reader.

I don't know very much about japanese to chinese, but I don't think all of that would lead to something like this.
-
"Even better than Spiderman"
[hide]
[/hide]More entertaining than this? I'd pick up this manga again if that was true.
-
yeah, that's a joke scan. "is this real life", "my right hand is always busy", talking about Takagi growing a mustache, and a trollish "change reversi to bakuman" plot twist. Hilarious, and certainly intended as such. I kind of want to read this alternate-universe Bakuman instead…
-
"This works"
-
lol it does work. Takagi couldn't pull one off
-
That was hilarious.
"Oh yeah!"
Hattori: I kinda feel like punching you now
Other Hattori: You sure? I'm stronger than I look.LAWLS it's like they decided to also interpret visuals as a way to translate. After that it just got ridiculously hilarious. I support whoever did that doing it every week.
-
The idea of Mashiro's uncle trying to create the ultimate manga and passing down the information in a secret notebook is hilarious.
-
Well, I just caught up on this series and I'm liking it a lot. I wasn't a big fan of the shy love relationship between Miho and Mashiro in the beginning but it grew on me, but it's still a bit annoying. Their relationship is ridiculously naive, innocent, and childish. Hey, I'm happy that they've seen each other a few times over the years and…held hands. Step by step.
I'm pretty excited for this final showdown between Eiji and Ashirogi Muto. To be honest I secretly hope Himimaru comes out of nowhere and takes it all. >_>
-
Hope there's another troll scan this week.
-
Oops, forgot to reply. Yes, it was a joke, and I didn't realise from reading the first two pages. Too bad they have taken those scans down already.
@RobbyBevard:
Can't they ever work with an editor other than the guy they've had for 9 years?
If Ohba is so set on marrying Azuki and Mashiro, I see no reason why he can't marry Hattori to their manga.
-
Well, there are spoilers for chapter 156 out now. In a nutshell:
! Ogawa returns to work for Mashiro and Takagi as an assistant, but he gets into a bit of a conflict with Moriya since he can't work the entire work week now that he's married, or something like that. In the end everyone gets worn out trying to keep up with the PCP+Reversi workload, so Ogawa brings in two more assistants (a guy with a blond jewfro and headphones, and another who looks like a more well-adjusted, more cheerful Nakai) to help out.
-
Some of the best facial expressions of latter days Bakuman.
-
! Another great chapter. Mashiro's expressions were priceless. I think we've all felt that way at one point or another, and I'm sure it's especially true manga-kas or anyone who creates art for a living.
! This line bugged me though: "I saw that I was a failure as a professional mangaka." Yeah, sure, the guy who's been serialized four times and is doing 30 pages a week is a failure. Shut up Mashiro. -
Good chapter, and some great facial expressions. They should be more okay in the future, they were mostly screwed because the first chapter of Reversi is extra long, and Mashiro got caught up in the first chapter of new PCP, so they had an extra 30 pages to deal with on the weekly, on top of the already expanded by 40 pages schedule. And with extra assistants… should be okay from here on out.
Here's a hint Mashiro. WHen you need to cram out a shit ton of pages, do some headshots and fill backgrounds with speedlines. You can't do it on every page, but you can crank through a couple pages quickly by taking some shortcuts. Pick your battles!
I'm sure it's especially true manga-kas or anyone who creates art for a living.
Hey, just last week I was up for 30 hours to meet a Marvel deadline on a book I wasn't even supposed to be working on. Yes, it does happen!
-

Mashiro lagged on his duties…it brought all sorts of problems for all his assistants...even his partner...not to mention himself. That in essence is a big failure.
-
This was a very good chapter. I especially enjoyed seeing the sleazeball assistant (Moriya I believe) finally show some decency. I would imagine working with a few people for an extended period of time would have you warming up to them eventually. I kind of wish Obata didn't play up Mashiro's expressions since it felt like the writers were going on a more serious route for this one. But whatever, it was still fun. And Mashiro's expression was hilarious. Ah.

-
I've drawn for extensive periods of time and even all night but this was hilarious. Just the thought of drawing for six days is crazy. My hands would've fell off long before I finished.
Mashiro's state of health was so funny.
Great chap.

His exact words (or at lesat how they were translated) were, "I was a failure as a professional mangaka". To me, that seems to imply that it's all-encompassing.

Not really. Link that statement to what happened in this chapter and it will not be as all encompassing as you have thought, it is specific to the current events that happened in the latest chapter. As a professional, Mashiro is expected to handle the expectations of the profession. He was not able to address the demands of his job, in that sense he felt that he had failed not only his team, but also himself.

Whatever. English language is weird.
As long as we agree that this was only one instance of failure on Mashiro's part and it doesn't negate everything he has accomplished up to this point.
-

Until you remember what happened last time he overworked himself…

He's absolutely just referring to this one particular instance. You can fail at a job and feel bad about it without failing your entire career.
-

Okay, yeah, I got it, thanks.
Apparently I'm a failure as a manga reader.
-
@RobbyBevard:

It would be funny if he just died this time around.
-
I think that his state of health was meant to be purely comical this time. Personally I'd be extremely annoyed if we had to sit through another arc worrying about his physical health now that we seem to be building to the finale.
-
Great chapter, pretty hilarious facial expressions and I loved everyone's dedication to see the manuscript done on time. I've been thinking from the beginning Mashiro needed more assitants despite the limited space. They surely have the money to pay them.
-
Oh Moriya, still so petty
Good to see Ogawa again, bringing some common sense with him. Sure, the team has more work to do now and the pace is pretty brutal, but I can't help being a little frustrated that Mashiro is working himself to an early grave again; he's lucky to have someone experienced and organised like Ogawa taking care of the team. I've previously whined about the series straying too far from the mangaka slice-of-life themes that first pulled me in, so chapters like this are nice every now and then. Er, even though they had a hard time with the job this time and all. -
Er, even though they had a hard time with the job this time and all.
It should be easier after this. Yes, they have an extra 40 pages to do every month for the monthly PCP chapter, but this time around they had another 30 pages on top of that to do because the first chapter of Reversi is extra long and with color pages. So instead of the usual workload being "just" 1.5 times more than usual, it was really doubled and they had 80 pages extra to do.
They've been getting chapters done between Monday-Thursday up till now, but really Mashiro needs to be finishing Reversi on Wednesdays at this point, so he can spend Thursday-Saturday on PCP, and then Sunday towards whatever he needs to. (Relaxing, preferably.)
(But its okay if the assistants take a little longer…. and now with more of them it shouldn't be as big a deal again.)

Yeah, that's a lot of extra work they didn't seem to be very prepared for, so it's understandable their schedule fell apart like that. I've been re-reading this chapter and now I'm even more impressed how reliable Ogawa is in that chaos. (Really, he's a godsend when Mashiro's solution to the slipping pace, once again, involves slowly destroying his health.) This guy even manages to go home to his family every day after work!
-
Hope everyone is having a good Unhappy Turkey Day. Checked the spoilers on the latest chapter.
Near as I can tell, just from the pictures and english words in there…
! Eiji's Zombiegun premiers with a brand new record number of votes, in the 700's. But then the next week when Reversi premiers, while it doesn't break that record, it DOES beat out the second chapter of ZOmbie Gun, scoring first place.
! It then proceeds to make first for the next three weeks!
! Then Eiji does something to completely shake up his own story, and takes back first place… and Road Racer Giri does the same and takes 2nd, putting Reversi in third.
! Hirimaru is just collapsed on the floor.
! Azuki makes the front cover of some magazine.Neat how much you can tell just from the pictures, in spite of how text heavy this series is.
-
Laughing at Hiramaru already.
-
This chapter made me feel like, maybe they wanted to end the series (Death Note ) when L died.. That reference to carrying the 2 protagonist to the very end.
-
Oh, is 157 out? Yes it is.
http://www.mangareader.net/bakuman/157/2
Hattori is a troll.
! Telling them AFTER they've finished that they had another day yet.
! And Aoki is in 17th. Her series is going to get cancelled again? Well, considering she wasn't even trying for first when everyone else was trying to outdo Crow, that's not surprising I guess. Her heart doesn't seem to be in it. Maybe she needs a collaborator?
! Its also telling that Hirimaru is upset about that more than his own rank. But he's also in the mid tier, and his running gag is that he's not enthused about what he's doing.
! Maybe they should team up. That would have… results of some sort.–- Update From New Post Merge ---

Its something they could just be viewing in hindsight about Death Note.
! I think the solution in this case will be to add more demon characters. Not just a light and dark one, but a whole range and myriad of manipulators with different personalities. A third character to interact differently with the two leads (or even a whole set of new characters). Kinda like Oda introducing all the SUpernovas. Its the route I'd go.

I like this idea a lot.
